Music is one of the strongest elements of Jamaican culture, and in recognition of this, the JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival - The Art of Music 2012 edition will feature a sterling tribute to the dynamic, energetic and riveting genres that have made up Jamaican popular music. Art of Music Productions (AMP), the producers of the Festival, have dedicated Thursday night, January 26, 2012 to Jamaica 50, when they will present an exciting journey through Jamaican music. The production company has co-opted a slew of Jamaica's best artistes to make an excellent event that will kickstart the celebration of the important anniversary. "Jazz is the first major event for Jamaica 50 and will therefore set the tone for the celebrations," explained Junior Taylor, Associate Producer with Art of Music Productions. "The idea is to showcase the music from the time we gained our independence to now," he said. Thursday night's tribute to the golden jubilee will therefore present a musical tapestry featuring some of Jamaican music's greatest from the different eras, showcasing the best of Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae and Dancehall. The impressive roster is a diverse mix that will surely sate the wishes of fans of all Jamaican genres. The multiple-platinum recording artiste and international sensation Shaggy, is sure to whet appetites with his magnetism, gravelly voice, and catchy witty tunes that will send waves of excitement through the audience. Dancehall's first king, Yellowman as well as the original raggamuffin, Half Pint, will have original dancehall fans rocking to the beat. Reggae's first empress Marcia Griffiths and the young lioness Etana, the poetic philosopher Luciano and Mykal Rose will delve into Reggae's more mystical and prophetic side. For those who wish to immerse themselves in the sounds of lovers rock, the timeless Freddie McGregor and the inimitable John Holt are guaranteed to please. The line-up will also feature George Nooks, Chris Martin, AJ Brown, Pluto Shervington, Lloyd Parks and the We the People Band and the Dragonaires. The extensive, solid line-up will deliver short, energetic performances that will create a visual kaleidoscope of Jamaican music, drawing from their own hits as well as other iconic songs. Additionally, the night's musical fare will be held together by a narrative that will guide the musical journey. Mr. Taylor explained that the JAMAICA Jazz and Blues' Thursday night leg has traditionally enjoyed the lowest turn-out of the three-night Festival. He noted that the lower attendance results from fewer people being able to take off from work to attend, on Thursday. It is however anticipated that this year's special line-up and other incentives will have more patrons flocking to the venue. Indeed, as though the fabulous line-up wasn't enough, Art of Music Productions is sweetening the incentives by lowering the ticket price for general admission. So, in tribute to Jamaica 50, general admission tickets for Thursday night will be only US$50.00. VIP tickets are priced at US$120. The JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival - The Art of Music 2012 is a historic 16th staging and will also feature international artistes Celine Dion, Cee-Lo Green, the Temptations, Richie Stephens, Gentleman, Jully Black, Nicole Henry, Tami and Tessanne Chin and Destra Garcia. The Festival takes place at the Greenfield Stadium, Trelawny, January 26 - 28, 2011.

The Miss Black Nude Beauty Pageant was founded in Washington, DC by Husband and Wife team, Ron and Deloris Dickerson.. Mostly Deloris, Ron helped out a little bit. The 1st show was held at Club 55 in the summer of 1993. It was an instant success. It has over the years become something of a cult classic with people coming to see the show from all over the world. Ok, back to the beginning.. The concept for the pageant was created as Ms. Deloris and Ron were watching a Miss America Pageant. Already having been in the Gentlemen's Club business for well over 20 years, Ms. Deloris had a vision of emulating that show, but with a twist. She decided to create a production, very similar to that show but allowing the ladies to be a little more creative in their dance moves and closing the show with a giant BANG!! The last category of the pageant was going to be TOTALLY NUDE. How cool is that?
The 1st production of the show featured 15 young ladies of African American Decent showcasing their swimwear, Evening Gowns and Lingerie. The categories of Talent and Totally Nude rocked the overflow crowd out of its seats and a yearly show was born.
During the ensuing years, several high profile television shows featured The Miss Black Nude Beauty Pageant. The most popular of all was HBO. HBO actually filmed the show live in DC but also traveled with the show for many years to its other home, Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica.. Just a side bar about Hedonism II, It's the best damn place on earth. Sorry, back to my story. The Miss Black Nude Beauty Pageant has been featured at Hedonism II in Negril Jamaica for the past 17 years, only missing one year. It's always hosted by our trusted DJ & MC, "Mr. E" who also is one of the producers of the show. It is a staple for the last week of September. Visitors from all over The United States, Europe and Canada make their way to Hedo II the last week of September, every year to witness first hand, this fabulous show. 2011 will be no different, so if you know like we know, be wicked for a week along with the ladies of Club 2046 and join us for a most exciting week of fun and delicious activities.

Kelly, 44, had complained of throat pain and was rushed on Tuesday to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where surgeons the same day drained an abscess on one of his tonsils, spokesman Allan Mayer said.
The Chicago native will be "laid up indefinitely" as he heals, therefore making it impossible for him to perform at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay this weekend.
Kelly alluded to discomfort in his throat last week in a tweet, which was also posted on his official website, saying optimistically, "I feel like my throat is coming back. I've been in bed sweating like crazy."
Kelly won a Grammy in 1997 for his gospel-tinged "I Believe I Can Fly," and is also known for his musical melodrama "Trapped in the Closet," a multipart saga about an ever-expanding cast of characters.
The medical issue comes soon after reports that Kelly faces a $2.9 million foreclosure on his suburban Chicago mansion.
Kelly's spokesman has declined to discuss the home but has said the singer is not in financial trouble.

The long-running retro party Heineken Good Times, is scheduled to make its third appearance in the second city on Saturday April 2 at Pier One. According to Jerome Hamilton, executive member of The Quorum, Good Times will be held in that venue's interior to secure an intimate feel. This is the second Good Times event of the year, the first was held this month at the Chinese Benevolent Association in Kingston. It was first held in Montego Bay in 2000 at Pier One and returned four years later at The Brewery.
Hamilton said the decision to make it MoBay again stemmed from overwhelming fan demand. "We're looking to expand our base and Montego Bay is just one of the locations we will be playing. We will also be going to New York in April," Hamilton disclosed.
Heineken Good Times made its debut in the Big Apple last year at the Mingles Club in the Bronx and drew enthusiastic audience response, strong enough for promoters in the New York borough to request a follow-up.

WILL IT BE SHAGGY, BEENIE MAN, JR. GONG, WAYNE WONDER, SEAN PAUL, LADY SAW OR BOUNTY KILLER ?

Kingston, JA: FOURTEEN of the most sought after reggae acts of the past decade, including current frontrunners Shaggy, Sean Paul, Damian Marley, Beenieman, Marcia Griffiths, Lady Saw, Bounty Killer and Wayne Wonder will do battle for the prestigious 'Artiste of the Decade' (2001-2010) award at the Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Awards, set to take place on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at The East Lawn of the historical Devon House site, Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica.
The very competitive category was established this year to honour the reggae artiste who had the biggest impact as a hit maker, performer and as a touring act, event founder and CEO Richard "Richie B" Burgess said.
Platinum artiste Shaggy stormed out to an early lead in the online voting (www.emeawards.com). Shaggy's biggest success came at the turn of the millennium with singles It Wasn't Me and Angel. The subsequent album Hotshot was not only certified diamond by the RIAA but soared to the top spot on the Billboard 200 and UK album chart. He scored again with Lucky Day which went Gold in 2002 and his 2008 album Intoxication, which earned a nominated for Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards.
Beside his on stage accolades, Shaggy has championed many philanthropic initiatives including raising funds for the Bustamante Children's Home in Kingston. He also teamed with his peers on a tribute song titled Rise Again, which become the anthem in Haiti after the recent earthquake. In 2007, Shaggy's musical accomplishment was recognised by the Government of Jamaica when he was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD).
Another frontrunner for the Artiste of the Decade award is Beenieman. He may not have the international record sales of Damian, Shaggy or Sean Paul, however, he has the streets locked and is arguably the most seasoned and accomplished entertainer in the industry. His album on Virgin Records, Art and Life was certified gold and won him the Grammy for Reggae Album of the Year in 2001. On stage the 'Doctor' has enjoyed many exceptional live performances including his memorable set at Reggae Sumfest 2008 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, that some say, firmly established him as the "King of the Dancehall". On the local charts, Beenieman has had an impressive catalogue of hits including his current chart banger Rum and Red Bull and he continues to have a major presence at all the major reggae festivals around the world.
Wayne Wonder, born Von Wayne Charles, recorded Bonafide Love (Movie Star) with Buju Banton, and wrote several early hits for the cultural DJ early in his career. In 2000, Wonder launched his own record label, Singso, and collaborated with international artistes, Foxy Brown, and Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes. His career achieved internationally success in 2003 with his Atlantic Records single No Letting Go. The single reached #11 in the US and #3 in the UK and was a major success on urban radio stations in the US.
Jr Gong Marley created mayhem in 2006 with his monster hit Welcome to Jamrock. The song sat atop charts in Jamaica, Europe, and Canada and created just as much fever state side, enjoying multiple spins on urban radio stations and cable channels like BET, MTV and VH1 TV. When the album was released in September 2005, it shot to #7 on the sales charts, making it the biggest opening for a reggae artiste in history. Two days after the 61st anniversary of his father's birth, Gong claimed another first when he became the first Jamaican artiste to win two Grammy awards at the same show -- the Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance in the R&B category.
Sean Paul, who enjoyed unprecedented album sales with his debut album, Stage One in 2000, has had a string of successes including his song Gimme the Light that was a huge hit, and the multi-platinum album, Dutty Rock (2002), which earned him a Grammy award. Paul followed up with The Trinity in 2005, which also went platinum and won the American Music Award for Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artiste in 2006.
One only has to hear the punch line from monster tracks like -- She Loves Me Now, Step Aside, Tempted To Touch, Rockaway, Double Trouble, Putting Up Resistance or One Step Ahead to know that the "boss," Beres Hammond is in the house. On stage, whether it is at home in Jamaica or major markets like New York, Florida or London, Beres is in a class by himself.
The name Marcia Griffiths has always been associated with excellence. Dubbed the Queen of reggae music, Marcia has in the past decade, established herself as an Ambassador of Jamaican music. An original member of Bob Marley's legendary harmony singers, Marcia is credited with recording a number of big hits songs including Dreamland, I Shall Sing and the perennial favourite Electric Boogie.
For the past 10 years, Grammy-nominated Bounty Killer has made a career of bussing young artistes such as Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Elephant Man and several members of his Alliance crew. He is a fearless performer who has waged numerous on-stage battles with his arch nemesis Beenieman. On the international scene, Bounty made his biggest mark in 2001 with a successful collaboration with No Doubt on the single Hey Baby. He also enjoy solo successes with albums such as Ghetto Dictionary Volume I: Art of War and Ghetto Dictionary Volume II: Mystery, the latter receiving a Grammy nomination.
Dancehall Queen Lady Saw is an accomplished international star who has the distinction of being
the first female deejay to win a Grammy Award. Her international exploits also includes a gold certification for the single Smile with Vitamin C, a triple-platinum certification for Underneath It All for
her 2003 collaboration with No Doubt. She has also earned a well-deserved Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Duo or Group for her featured performance on No Doubt's single
Underneath It All, which reached number #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Other nominees for the Artiste of the Decade category includes Capleton, Elephant Man, Sizzla, Luciano and Buju Banton.

This year's staging of Rebel Salute will see David Brooks putting in an appearance and fans of Mavado won't be hearing any of the negative songs associated with that name.
It will be straight clean entertainment for the Rebel Salutes loyals.
David Brooks will be taking to the stage at the Port Kaiser Sports Complex in St Elizabeth on January 15 for the 18th staging of the event.
Speaking at the launch of the festival in Kingston last Thursday, Tony Rebel noted that many have questioned the inclusion of the popular deejay, known for his 'gangster for life' persona, on the festival known for its positive messages.
"Over the years we have been fearless explorers of the music business and this is just one way we are exploring the music of this artiste who does have good material. David Brooks does have a good side, and that's the side we want to encourage," he explained.
Tony Rebel added that there are other artistes including deejays Buju and Capleton who made a change for the better musically and have been embraced, therefore it is possible that the same could be said of David Brooks in the future.
This year's festival will also see two other top reggae artistes appearing on the Rebel Salute Stage for the first time. Tony Rebel announced that Reggae veteran and Grammy Award winner Toots Hibbert is billed for the festival, as well as singer and songwriter Tanya Stephens. The line-up has further been diversified by the inclusion of the Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars.
The eclectic line-up includes a mix of established, current and up-and-coming acts. The roster includes Beres Hammond, who returns after a seven-year absence, Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, I-Octane, Ken Boothe, Khago, Chuck Fenda, Fantan Mojah, Nadine Sutherland, Dennis Alcapone, Jack Radics, AJ Brown and Tristan Palmer.
