Jason Mighty - a real gospel revolutionary
Reggae music possesses the undisputed ability to touch the spirit, the soul and the body regardless of face, creed, color or nationality. Singer, songwriter, Minister Jason Might, (his real name), is revolutionizing reggae praise and worship with his soulful ballads and uplifting praise tunes. Blending smooth, distinct vocals with musical hooks and slurs that can appease the most discerning listener; Jason imparts a glimpse of a genuine relationship with his Savior to the forefront of his songs.
Born in the sun-rich island of Jamaica, to a musically inclined mother, Jason grew up hearing the time tested, sacred hymns that are near and dear to many of our hearts. When asked about his inspiring musical talent he states, "In the year 2000 God gave me a mandate to preach hope and salvation through my music; be it on dancehall or roots reggae rhythms. The message is the same that has been spread by our Savior himself. I simply sing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ." Confirming his status as a minister, Jason was also ordained as a music minister and a deacon at his home church, New Life Assemblies Church of God.
This year, Jason released his debuted album entitled "Cornerstone". His hard work did not go unnoticed by his peers and the industry, as he was awarded the Best Gospel Collaboration award at the 2008 Reggae Academy Awards. He was then nominated at the 2008 Flame Awards for Best Foreign Recording Artiste and Best Foreign Gospel Recording of the year.
The award winning, Jamaican born artiste has toured in various countries including: Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Bahamas, Canada, England, St. Marteen, St. Kitts, The United States and Turks and Caicos. With his impressive stage presence he has shared the spotlight with fellow international gospel recording artistes such as: Kirk Franklin, Dr. Bobby Jones, Micah Stampley, Martha Munizzi, Mary Mary, Canton Jones, Sitchie, Papa San, Prodigal Son, DJ Nicholas and many more. He has also shared the gospel of Christ on shows that featured artistes such as Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Ninjaman, Neyo, Akon and more.
Jason's worshipful blend of a contemporary yet radical style has made him a hit within all age groups, and amongst musical veterans and critics. On his hit songs, "One Soul (ft. DJ Nicholas)", "Da Vinci Code", and "Can' Walk This Life Alone", Jason exhibits his talent in mixing hard hitting lyrics with an authentic Jamaican flavour, leaving his hearers on the doorstep of the throne room of God.
"I believe that music can evolve. The same as how our methods of transportation has evolved - we've gone from a horse and carriage to motor vehicles. Our methods of delivery must change to suit the needs of our generation, but the message must stay the same. That is my mandate, that is my message."

JCDC Gospel Finalist Chosen
After several grueling rounds of elimination, the ten finalists that will compete in the 2008 Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Song Competition have been selected. Over three hundred aspiring gospel artists auditioned in Kingston, St. Catherine, Manchester, St. Mary and St. James, all with original entries.
The JCDC then invited those participants with completely original songs to participate in an elimination round. From the elimination round, 25 semi finalists were selected and invited to compete in a private session for a spot in the finals.
All ten finalists hailing from the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Thomas, St. Catherine, St. Ann and Manchester will now move on to working with some of Jamaica's top gospel producers on a compilation album that will be released before the final competition.
They will also participate in Gospel Vibe a television reality based series that premiered last year. The public will get a chance to see the finalist before the finals, as they will tour the island throughout the month of June.

A family singing praise together
A unique family of talented vocalists and instrumentalists, The Murrills are endowed with the ability to reach and rebuild broken spirits through the ministries of song and prayer. With an amazing chemistry that can only be shared between six close knit siblings, The Murrills have already wowed audiences through their work with the famed Tri-City Singers. Their debut CD "Family Prayer" is being released June 3, 2008 on Zomba Gospel. "Family Prayer" is produced by Grammy Award winner Donald Lawrence, who first worked with the group as part of his celebrated choir The Tri-City Singers.
Comprised of Darwin, Damion, Donnell, Andre, Roger and sister Arnetta – who was a featured Tri-City lead vocalist - The Murrills, guided by their mother, began singing together as children and "Family Prayer" is replete with songs that bring to life the old adage "the family that prays together, stays together." Their music beautifully emphasizes the love and strength, ups and downs of family, with faith and togetherness being the central themes.
"If only by the example we show of the unity and power of the family, I believe we can be a force for healing and reunification," says Arnetta.
"We want our lives and music-as a strong, close, loving Family, to count for something meaningful." Roger Murrill adds, "If the way we live, and the music we make, will help ease anyone's pain, heal anyone's brokenness, we will have accomplished something long lasting and important."
The first single "Family (There's A Healing)" is an emotional ballad that pierces the heart with its passionate sentiment that "God has come to heal the family" and its genuine plea for broken families everywhere to reunite. As a bonus, "Family Prayer" is enhanced with sheet music that features piano and vocal notations for "Family (There's A Healing)."
Other highlights on FAMILY PRAYER include "This Is How I Feel About You," an earnest devotion describing the limitless capabilities of God; while "I Declare War" is a punching, up-tempo jam pronouncing victory over any temptation or obstacle. The Murrills also show a versatile edge with a heart-throbbing remake of New Edition's classic "Can You Stand The Rain."
The Murrills will perform April 27 at the 2008 Silver Rose Awards & Auction Gala for the Jenesse Center. Halle Berry is the event Chairperson and a huge supporter of The Jenesse Center, a non-profit domestic violence program in South Central, Los Angeles. The Gala will be hosted by Wanda Sykes and other performers include Jennifer Hudson.

The Grand Ole Opry may be more famous for its weekly country music performances, but gospel music is woven just as tightly into the heritage of the famed building and the Dove Awards will culminate its show with an "Opry at the Doves" featuring gospel, country and bluegrass artists singing their powerfully simple songs of faith And conviction. Ricky Skaggs and The Whites will perform "Love Will Be Enough" from their Dove-nominated and Grammy-winning Salt of the Earth CD, while Jeff and Sheri Easter, The Hoppers and Karen Peck & New River will perform a medley of southern gospel favorites. Get Ready for Valley Gospel Fest
Top performers in modern gospel music will be on stage for the first-ever Valley Gospel Fest, slated for May 10 at the Louis and Sandra Berkman Amphitheater at the Historic Fort Steuben in Southwestern Ohio.
Organizers outlined festival details during a press conference Thursday at the Starkdale Presbyterian Church.
The performers, who will include three-time Grammy-Award winner Ashley Cleveland, Jonathan White, Curtis Lewis and the Aliquippa Church in the Round Gospel Choir, the Word of Life Singers, Seasons and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Choir, will be on hand for the free festival scheduled to run from noon to 7 p.m.
The concert, co-sponsored by the Starkdale Presbyterian Church and the Community Foundation of Jefferson County, will be a "huge event" for Steubenville and Jefferson County, according to Jody Glaub, board member of the Community Foundation of Jefferson County and a Starkdale Presbyterian Church elder.
"This is going to be a community-wide, ecumenical celebration," said Glaub, adding that local churches will be invited to participate. "I think this is a wonderful time to be having this. Everyone has been so positive about the event. It's going to be a wonderful Saturday afternoon."
Glaub said funding for the concert will be through the Foundation's Glory to Christ fund, and community churches are invited to participate by hosting booths to give away merchandise or sell baked goods, crafts or cookbooks. Those attending are asked to take a canned good or monetary donation for Urban Mission Ministries, added Glaub.
Keith Murdock, Foundation board member, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the concert.
"Bob Neal also is going to provide fireworks at the end of the festival," said Glaub.
The city has committed to closing off a portion of Third Street near the amphitheater, while local pastors are asked to volunteer as greeters at the gates, said Glaub.
Terri Antill, community foundation director, said her organization is "pleased to be able to sponsor the event," while Dan Wood, an organizer, said the event will be an uplifting experience for an Ohio Valley hit with hard economic times.
"We want this to be more than a one-time event," said Wood of the concert. "We think this will give our area a boost."
Literature provided during the press conference describes Cleveland as blending "rock, blues, gospel and folk with her distinctive, open-tuned guitar sound that has won her three Grammy Awards, two Dove Awards and a legion of devoted fans."
One of Nashville's most in-demand session singers, Cleveland has performed on more than 300 albums, including those of John Hiatt, Emmylou Harris, Faith Hill, Jars of Clay, Don Henley, Amy Grant, Etta James and Michael McDonald.
There are 20 booth spaces available for local churches, and spaces will be assigned as applications are accepted until April 30. In case of rain the event will be held at the First Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Get ready for Women Empowerment Gospel Fest

On The Rocks Entertainment, Inc. presents the Women Empowerment Gospel Festival at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by Juanita Bynum and will feature performances by a dynamic line up of Grammy Award winning artists including Yolanda Adams, Pastor Shirley Caesar and The Clark Sisters.
In addition to musical performances, the Rev. Dr. Carl L. Washington, current officiating pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist Church located in Harlem, New York will be a special guest speaker. A host of celebrity speakers will join Rev. Washington in sharing positive and powerful messages for women of all spiritual backgrounds. The event will give women the opportunity to come together and highlight the efforts of some of the most non-vocal, yet obedient disciples of the Lord.
Several women of the Gospel who are true advocates of inspirational empowerment for women and embody the power of worship and the impact that comes along with it will be honoured during the event.
This event is the first one promoted by On The Rocks Entertainment at a major union house. The company founders, Derrick Sanders and Shelby Joyner, began the concert promotion company 13 years ago after coming to the realization that working a 9 to 5 job was not for them.
"We had a vision," states Sanders. "We had the vision of taking 'On The Rocks Entertainment' from small local parties to the mainstream for Concert promotions. We went from a fan base of about 1,000 to over 10,000 strong. When everyone told us it couldn't happen, we proved them wrong every single time. We are now moving to bigger venues like Radio City Music Hall and The Beacon Theater. This is what dreams are made of. We believe that. Life is about the journey, not the destination."

Kerron Proves the Power in Praise
Kerron began singing at the tender age of eight years in Jamaica in her local church and thereon set her sights and ambition on becoming an instrument of music for the Lord. She has moved tens of thousand while touring the island with the Perpetual Team and at local churches and the accolades have started rolling in. Her ministry is being demanded locally and on the international scene.
Born, August 22, 1982, in the parish of St Andrew, she is the fifth child of Lascelles and Derisa Ennis and grew up in the Patrick City Community, where her artistic ability has captured the hearts of many. She has been the choir director for the Youth and Combined choirs of the Boulevard Church of the Nazarene and has received the commission from the Lord to sing and to make His praise glorious. Her dedication for the Lord is indelibly etched into her motto of Acts 20:24, "but none of these things moved me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God."
After entering the Jamaica Cultural Development's Gospel Festival in 2003 with the title song, "No Wonder," written by Clifton and Margaret Clarke, Kerron came in third place. She then became a well sought after alto singer. From this the musical stage of greatness was then set and Kerron has no intention of looking back.
Kerron has shared the stage with many local and international artists like: Michael W. Smith, Marvia Providence, Toby Mac and Huntley Brown. On the local scene, she graced the stage with the Katalysts Crew, DJ Nicholas, Lt. Stitchie, Carlene Davis, Judy Mowatt, Papa San and Chevelle Franklyn just to name a few. She also performed at the Spring Break gospel festival "Fun in the Sun", an annual event sponsored by Glory Music where the merging of international and local artist meet on the same stage.
When the need came for the Jamaican population to 'bawl' out on behalf of the nation, it was Kerron who led the Perpetual Praise team in worship at the launch of the Jamaica Bawl Out 2, held in October 2004 at the St. William Grant Park in downtown Kingston.
Presently, Kerron has her pre-release album on the market and has shared studio time with Lt Stitchie with "We Need God" and DJ Nicholas with "Daddy Oh." The songs have been getting air play on a number of radio stations in Jamaica and have been number one for six months on LOVE FM chart. Fans have reported hearing their favorite Kerron track on Roots FM, Mus Bus, LOVE FM, RJR, Mega Jam, Irie FM among others radio stations. And on the international scene she has been aired on Mystic 1580 AM in the US, as well as on stations in New York, New Jersey, Boston, Canada and Europe.

Bloody Sunday' commemorated this weekend
By: Elizabeth Smith
The 43rd anniversary of 'Bloody Sunday' and a re-enactment of the Selma to Montgomery March is being commemorated this year between March 6 and 10.
Known as the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, this 15th annual staging will be graced by the presence of guests like: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Cornel West, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, C.T. Vivian, Al Sharpton and Faya Rose Sanders and Martin Luther King III amongst many others.
The theme of this year's jubilee is "One vote, One Mic, One Movement: From Selma to Jena and Beyond."
In 1965, the Edmund Pettus Bridge was the scene of an attack on hundreds of voting rights marchers by law enforcement officials on what was later called, 'Bloody Sunday.'
Prompted by the removal of Black males from voting rolls by Alabama's Constitution of 1901, Blacks in Alabama fought hard for voting rights; one of the most valuable rights of any citizen.
Blacks struggled for this enfranchisement in a variety of ways in the 1950s and 60s, including: NAACP's legal strategies via the 1957 Civil Rights Act; voter education projects in 1965; mass meetings and rallies in Black churches that were often met with police violence including the notable killing of Jimmy Lee Jackson in 1965; hundreds of African Americans lining up at registrar offices attempting to register to vote and hundreds of voting rights activists being beaten and jailed by police.
In their quest to complete the march from Selma to Montgomery that openly and loudly protested against and defied laws forbidding them a vote, Blacks were forced to make several attempts:
o 1st Attempt, March 7, "Bloody Sunday": Marchers trekked from Browns Chapel AMEZ to Edmund Pettus Bridge, but were viciously attacked by local police and state troopers.
o 2nd Attempt, March 9: Marchers trekked to Pettus Bridge, knelt, prayed, and then returned to Browns Chapel, but Rev. James Reeb dies when beaten by white vigilantes.
o 3rd Attempt, March 21: Marchers, with the protection of a federal court order and a Federalized National Guard, proceeded to the state Capitol to petition for voting rights.
o March 24: At "Stars for Freedom" rally near Montgomery, at City of Saint Jude, world-renowned entertainers performed inspirational show then joined the march the next day.
o March 25: Marchers arrived at state Capitol, where Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech; Viola Luizzo, a marcher, was killed by the Ku Klux Klan that night in Lowndes County.
• Aftermath of the March:
o August 6, 1965: President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
o November 1966: Lucius Amerson was elected sheriff of Macon County, Alabama, the first African American elected to this post since Reconstruction.
o In 1970 two black men were elected to the legislature—the first since Reconstruction.
o To this day, movements for democracy the world over claim Alabama's voting rights struggle as an inspiration and sing the movement's anthem, "We Shall Overcome." Rev. C.T. Vivian, Chair of the National Voting Rights Museum, says: "We must never forget the dedication, passion and courageousness that were paramount in the struggle of African-Americans to achieve the right to vote in this country. We must never forget the importance of Selma, Alabama in this country's Civil Rights narrative. This annual celebration, with its re-enactment of the historic Selma-to-Montgomery March, is a pilgrimage that every American should experience."
Past attendees of the Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee include: Rosa Parks, Congressman John Lewis, Coretta Scott King, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, lawyer Johnny Cochran, President Bill Clinton, Stephen King and many more.

Chevelle Franklyn to minister in the Bronx
By: Elizabeth Smith
Chevelle Franklyn will headline Ebenezer's 75th Anniversary Gospel Concert in New York on Friday, April 14. The international multi-award winning singer of contemporary gospel masterpieces will join other 'ministers of the gospel through the arts,' including: Unconditional, The EPHN Temples of Praise Dancers and Choeur Magnificant.
Expectations are high for the concert, since Chevelle's humility, coupled with her exuberance and love for God have been a high source of inspiration around the world, according to the testimonies of many.
Ministering in song was a natural progression for Chevelle, whose own story of one day just deciding to make a change from super stardom on the secular scene, was a clear indication, that God is in control. In 1998, Chevelle felt, "tired of the empty way of life and hopelessness," and declared on stage during a concert, "I can't do this anymore." Chevelle said, "I did not hear a message or anything, but I felt the calling of God. I just broke down on the stage... I knew there was something better out there."
From singing Kirk Franklyn's "Silver and Gold" at that moment, Chevelle went on to a collaboration in 2000 with Papa San on his award-winning album, "Victory," that led to the beginning of a stream of awards starting with a Marlin Award for the track, "Touch From You."
In 2001 her new lifestyle was signed, sealed and delivered to the world, with the debut gospel album titled, "Joy." Having racked up many awards for that Danny Brownie - Mainstreet Records co-produced success, Chevelle released a new self produced album called, "His Way;" on her own label – N.O.W. Records (No Other Way).
Chevelle is sure to stir up a storm at the concert, as she did in the early 90's, singing charted hits like: "Nice and Naughty" and "No Pushover" - as well as number one collaborations with Spragga Benz, Shabba Ranks and the 1997 "Dancehall Queen" smash combination turned movie soundtrack feature, with Beenie Man.
The diversity of Chevelle's ministry today, is highlighted with the outstanding re-make of "Dancehall Queen," called, "Come King Jesus" that is featured on her latest album, "His Way."
The concert will take place at Lehman College, 250 Bedford Park Blvd in the Bronx.

Carlene Davis – batting for the Lord
By: Joan Wilson
Internationally acclaimed Gospel recording artiste Carlene Davis is one of the most dynamic music ministers coming out of Jamaica. As this Caribbean Hall of Fame Awardee testifies in song, the powerful message of God's love flows through her, bringing hope and healing to the heart of the listener. God has truly anointed and appointed her to affect this generation and her mission is to bring deliverance and transformation to a hurting world through the ministry of music, thus fulfilling The Great Commission.
YardFlex can attest that she is well on her way in fulfilling this commission. Already she is being requested by quite a few Caribbean leaders to come and minister in their country.
For Carlene it's an opportunity she more than welcomes as she says each Caribbean island she has been to, through the power of God lives have been transformed.
She is sometimes amazed at the response she receives as she ministers ...but that's the Lord working through her.
Right now she is preparing for a Caribbean/European tour for the month of March.
One thing we can say is that she has her calendar full, in addition to gearing up for the tour she is working on a project which has her very excited.
She is still holding the information close to her chest but we did manage to pry from her that she "writing a lot of lyrics" for it ...could it be an album? Well time will tell.
This minister's life is very full and it's real creative juggling how she makes key time for the family. As in between juggling tour and the project, she will be conducting a series of prayer summits leading up to a big event in May. United Church of Canada insults Reverend Daryl Gray
By: Janice Dayle
Can a fine upstanding practicing Minister of religion be banned from visiting his former congregation? In Montreal some factions of the United Church of Canada are trying to do just that.
Reverend Daryl Gray who once held the position of Minister at the Union United Church, was sent a letter from David Clinker, Supervising Minister of Union United Church, stating that Gray's attending the funeral for the mother of one of his current church members in December 2007, was "in violation" of an agreement made between Gray and The Montreal Presbytery.
According to Clinker in the letter, Reverend Gray was, "not to enter the premises or to take part in the events of Union United Church." Clinker also stated in the letter that he "insist" that Gray follow the agreement made by the Montreal Presbytery, and that Gray is not allowed to enter the church building for any reason without Clinker's "expressed permission".
The alarming side to this story is that the Minister in question, Reverend Daryl Gray, is no less than one of the most compassionate, sincere and aware, community focused - Black individuals in a position of leadership in Montreal.
"Bottom line is – 'The Rev' keeps it real, I've met no other preacher in Montreal who speaks as if he knows my every move and need...he is almost like a group counselor and that's the sign of a good reverend for me," Jade Smyth a member of Gray's new Imani Full Family and Gospel Church told YardFlex.
In a very public way some years ago, the United Church of Canada relieved Reverend Gray of his duties at Montreal's and Quebec's oldest Black Church – The Union United Church. Gray reportedly had not satisfied the United Church of Canada that he was actively engaged in professional development, as they had requested.
Situated in the inner city neighborhood of Little Burgundy where Blacks in Montreal have a rich history, the Union United Church was established by 26 blacks who were forced out of white churches in Montreal by white church leaders who would not allow Montreal Blacks to sit besides white members. It is ironic that with such a history of displacement, that a Black reverend – and not just any Black reverend, but that Daryl Gray, could be treated in this way.
There are many heroes of African descent in Montreal, but few stand up for equal rights and justice in as vocal a way as Reverend Daryl Gray does today and has in the past. Known for: questioning authorities when issues seem nebulous; getting up close and personal with the street guys, when things in the neighborhood get out of hand; initiating community activism for all round betterment for particularly Blacks and for creating a wonderful new Black Church called Imani, Gray has been credited for saving lives, nurturing souls and giving his all to youth.
This move of the United Church of Canada remains mind boggling to most, but seems to be seeped in bias.
Gray maintains that at no time did he agreed with the United Church of Canada not to enter Union United Church, and that he stated to the United Church representatives at a Union Board meeting that he definitely would not agree to any such provision. And recalls that many black members of the Union Board expressed outraged that this would be suggested to Gray by the United Church. Gray also attended a Special Celebration Service at Union to commemorate Union's 100 year anniversary, where he received a warm welcome from members of his former congregation.
A defiant Gray says he will be visiting Union United Church today for the closing programme for Black History Month and will not seek permission from the United Church to do so.
"This is plantation mentality to think that white folk still think that they can dictate to black people how to worship, where to worship, and who can lead them in worship. It's an insult to the Black community", said Gray.
He added, "I have no problem with Union United Church. This letter did not come from Union, but from United Church leaders. They (United Church officials) didn't even have the respect for Union to cc a copy of the letter to their 'Black' Official Board."

Stitchie puts "Real Life Story" on the global streets
By: Joseph Cunningham
Gospel deejay Stitchie has been spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his music, with great intensity on the international scene.
Recently, he returned from the United States where he promoted his third album, titled "Real Life Story." The official release of the album took the form of a concert held at the Harvest Fire Worship Centre in Florida. There was also a live radio launch on Florida's Mystic 1400.
The album has 17 tracks, produced by the likes of Bobby Digital, Don McDowell, Shawn Brown and Rohan McDermott.
Stitchie says, "It is the best album I have done to date. The engineers were good. The concepts of the songs are just a review of my life, real issues with spiritual solutions."
Stitchie said the album was released in Jamaica last Tuesday. While here, he says he will be using the opportunity to promote the album and video for the title track. The video was shot in Spanish Town by Billy Yapp, who also directed Stitchie's "Fast and Pray." "It is very hardcore and dancehall to the max," Stitchie said.
He revealed that the album has been doing well as it was on the Grammy list for Best Reggae Album, but it did not receive enough votes for a nomination.
"The album made the initial Grammy list but it did not get enough votes to get a nomination. It is the first time gospel has reached this far. The next time around we will be in the nomination," he confidently said.
Since the album's international release last year Stitchie has toured the Caribbean, the U.S and Europe.
On the European tour he performed alongside secular Reggae stars like Yellowman, Capleton, Jimmy Cliff, Junior Kelly, Derrick Morgan, Ce'Cile, Admiral Bailey, Ward 21, Alton Ellis, Dennis Alcapone, Lone Ranger and the recently deceased Lucky Dube.
Stitchie was given a eight-page spread in Riddim Magazine that will be in the March edition. Riddim also named "Real Life Story" as one of the top 10 albums for 2007.
He will spend a significant part of February promoting his album in Jamaica, but by March he will be off again to start his tours of several places in Europe, Canada, US and Africa.
Stitchie is also currently writing his first book, 'The Power of Determination,' that will be released later this year. This book will be his autobiography.

JCee...Started from the very top!
By: Joseph Cunningham
Her face has become very prominent and it's not just a promotional campaign. The Jamaican Gospel singer, JCee was selected to be among the final 20 in a talent search hosted by world leading television network, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The competition, called "The Next Big Thing," received entries from 88 countries. It was held late last year. Reflecting on the experience JCee said, "I did not follow up on my entry until the BBC called to say they liked the song. I told them a little bit about it, and. they called back to say I made top 20."
Since her phenomenal achievement, she admits, "I'm more known now. People have told me they heard the song on BBC radio." She added that her music features hardcore Dancehall and Reggae rhythms fused with various other genres.
Recognizing her Christian responsibility, she said, "I want my music to represent the Kingdom of God, but I'm from Jamaica so I want my music to represent my culture as well." She says she is a full-time music minister, stating that, "I try to put what's on my heart in my songs. Each song has a different message, but they still glorify God."
Currently, JCee is affiliated with On The Shout Records, founded and owned by DJ Nicholas.
"I wanna take gospel all over the world, I just want to share the message of Jesus Christ," she adds. "I want my music to be a tool to set people free," she says, "I want to give young people hope. Your situation doesn't have to be your outcome."

DJ Nicholas passionate for Christ & music
By: Joseph Cunningham
His powerful sound has many comparing him to Bounty Killer and Baby Cham, but he is not a secular artiste, instead, DJ Nicholas is a Gospel deejay. He attributes his strong vocals to spiritual dedication. "Seeking the lord brings power," he said.
Speaking with YardFlex via telephone on Friday afternoon, he revealed the interesting tale of how he began "walking with the lord."
"I was a rastaman who was living in accordance with the principles of
Rastafari. This was the case until I was reading my bible and saw the
scripture which reads...There is no other name under heaven, given
among men whereby we must be saved, but by the name of Jesus."
Nicholas said the bible passage made him realize that Jesus Christ is the only way. Praises be to God, he received the word with thanksgiving. As a result, he shaved his hair and turned fully to the bible for guidance and inspiration. He made the bold step of attending a church crusade at the New Life Assembly of God, Constant Spring Road. There, he got saved and baptized.
The passion of knowing Christ was accompanied by another passion...the passion of gospel music. He pursued his dreams of doing God's music by approaching Gospel producer, Tommy Cowan, who recorded his first single "Barrier." Nicholas continued to produce songs such as "Pop Off The Word" and collaborated with Kerron Ennis on "Holy Ghost Church." He has worked on projects for Bless a.k.a. Prodigal Son such as the concert, strong>'Recharge' which played a great part in his earlier development. Chevelle Franklyn, Robert & Jeneve Bailey and Danny Browne are some of the others Nicholas has worked with.
Ministering in Canada, USA, South America, London England and several small Islands, Nicholas shared the stage with international acts: Papa San, CeCe Winans, Alvin Slaughter and was opening act for Kirk Franklin in St Maarten. He is currently one of the Directors of 'On The Shout Records' a new gospel recording company which currently has 2 new gospel sensations - singers J-Cee and J-Lee, under its portfolio.
Nicholas won the Artist of the Year Award and the New Artist of the Year Award at the 2006 Maja Awards in Kingston Jamaica; he was also one of the contenders for this year's big prize, Album of the Year for his debut project "On the Shout." He received 12 nominations for the 2006 Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards, where he also won New Artist of the Year and Duo of the Year for the single, "Holy Ghost Church."
More than a Gospel musician, Nicholas says he is also a minister, with a "Ministry Statement": To minister the undiluted word of God uncompromisingly through the language of the Caribbean music in a most Professional way to the furtherance of God's Kingdom.

Here comes the Gospel Evangelist
By: Joseph Cunningham

Kevin Downswell, the 2003 National Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Festival winner came to prominence with his original entry, "Praise." From the preliminary stages of that competition, Kevin had distinguished himself as the favourite to win with his professional voice control.
His performance in the competition was phenomenal, considering that he
only realized he could sing, at age 13.
Unlike many musicians, Kevin is not motivated by stardom, but instead, his passion is fuelled by the motto, "That Christ may increase and I
decrease." St. John 3 v 30.
In 2005 Kevin was appointed to the office of an Evangelist and graduated from the University of the West Indies with honors in Bio-Chemistry that same year. "I was commissioned by God to be a full-time minister during that period, and so I had dedicated myself in much fasting and prayer." He said seeking God at that time was very critical, because he had planned to become a Medical Doctor. "God had another plan," he added.
Since then Kevin has been ministering throughout Jamaica at conferences, and in foreign lands as well. He is a member of the renown "Perpetual Praise Team" and also minister at his home church, Faith Mission Assembly of God.
He does preach the word, but music is his greater talent, and so he
continues to sing, and is now a prolific songwriter. A co-writer for the 2006 mega Gospel hit, "Nah Bow" - the song that won a Marlin Award for Gospel Reggae Recording of the year; Kevin has also recorded two singles with Tennyson Walters, for the album "Reggae For Christ."
"Reggae For Christ" was the first Gospel production to top the New York and South Florida Reggae charts simultaneously.
He is currently working with Spurr Empire – a Jamaican artist management and music production organization, and his album is due for released in the winter of 2008. Kevin said the album will have 15 tracks, among them will be the currently popular "Praise," "Joy," "Still Stand," "Change is Coming" and "Nothing Just Happens."

Kirk Franklin releases "The Fight of My Life"
On December 18 Kirk Franklin, who is credited with revolutionizing gospel music, will release an exceptional collection of all new material.
"Carol and Michael are fighting for their marriage. Deborah
is fighting to keep from losing her mind. Jeff is fighting to keep
his home. David is fighting for his faith. Welcome to "The Fight of My Life," Franklin says of the CD titled with the same name.
The first single from the album, "Declaration (This Is
It!)," is an upbeat and encouraging song that re-interprets the smooth-groove classic hit, "This Is It," co-written by
Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. It addresses surviving the everyday trials and tribulations through a positive declaration of one's purpose in life.
"This song is a statement that 'serves notice' on unnecessary
frustrations, relationships and circumstances that continue to attack
our life," says Franklin. "Unlike the children of Israel
who wandered in the wilderness, when we totally surrender to God,
what took 40 years, God 'can' fix in 40 minutes." Declaration (This
Is It!) is currently the #1 most added and #1 most increased airplay
at Gospel radio, and is also impacting urban radio.
After more than 15 years as the top selling, multiple Grammy
award-winning contemporary gospel artist, Kirk Franklin continually demonstrates that he is more than just an artist - he is a voice and a musical balm for his generation. "The Fight of My Life" is another display of the genius fusion of his positive message and urban beats that have made him a mainstay atop Billboard charts for more than a decade.
"The Fight of My Life" takes the listener on a spirit-filled journey from the soaring "Help Me Believe" - a letter set to music that speaks for those who may be doubting their own faith but are looking to God for re-confirmation and strength; to the more
traditional, tambourine-shakin', foot-tappin', "He Will Supply"
that will surely become a musical staple every choir will want to
sing come Sunday morning service. Another standout track is "Jesus," a hip cheerful ode that simply celebrates Kirk's love of the Almighty.
Kirk Franklin has remained a favorite and is applauded for being innovative, relevant and authentic. As he achieved more success, Franklin has remained connected to his audience through music that speaks frankly to life's issues and struggles, while always offering a chord of hope and optimism.
His latest CD, "Hero" is RIAA-certified platinum and he has seven additional RIAA-certified gold, platinum and multi-platinum selling releases to date. The musical trendsetter has garnered 5 Grammy® Awards, 11 Doves, 34 Stellars, 4 NAACP Image Awards, two BET Award and a 2006 American Music Award.

Shirley Ceasar releases her 43rd album; "Still Sweeping Through the City"
By: J. Koni
Gospel singing legend, Shirley Caesar has released her 43rd album in her 40th year in music. The album is entitled, "Still Sweeping Through the City," a compilation of 12 of her favorite songs.
The album will feature the classic song, "Hold My Mule," that was released in 1987 and became a number one hit. It stayed on the Billboard Gospel Album Sales Chart for a 110 weeks.
"Hold My Mule was number one for 52 weeks on Billboard," she confesses. "Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could do that again with the new CD? We're just gonna wait and see what God is going to do."
Shirley revealed that she dusted off some of her rarer classics from the 1970s such as "Faded Rose" and a medley of "Peter Don't Be Afraid," "Nobody But You Lord" and "Teach Me Master." Also from that period is the heart-rending "How Many Will Be Remembered?"
From the 1980s, Caesar resurrected "Jesus I Love Calling Your Name", "He'll Do It Again," "Peace in the Midst of the Storm" and "Never."
The Mighty Clouds of Joy's raspy-voiced lead singer, Joe Ligon, rose from his sick bed for the recording of "Never". "Joe had a triple bypass," Caesar announced. "But God touched his body and he was able to sing with me." He traded notes with Caesar on a bit of "Teach Me Master," "God's Got it All Under Control" and "Sweeping Through the City."
The album was recorded last July at the 300-member Mt. Calvary Holy Church that Caesar co-pastors in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Meet Bronx-based gospel artiste Dunamis
By: Joan Wilson
Now here is a gospel singer who has truly seen and done it all and is now on fire for Jesus. Through his mistakes he is now imparting the words to others so that they can avoid the same pitfalls.
Neil Hall aka Dunamis is on a mission to reach the world with the transforming message of the Power of God.
Born in Bull Bay, St Andrew he left Jamaica at the age of 10 then got "shipped back" to Jamaica on a one way ticket by my single mom who was out of her elements with his street activities of robbing and possessing and selling guns.
After returning to Jamaica he attended Kingston Technical for three years.
Strange as it might sound inspite of his street life on Sundays he would be in church and in the summer at church camp. He actually made an attempt to serve Christ in 1993 when he accepted the Lord as his
Saviour.
That didn't last he backslid the same year and lived the life of the prodigal son with riotous living as he says.
"My crew and I use to throw big sound parties and running women."
Soon Dunamis started taking an inward look at his life and realized it wasn't as fulfilling as he thought. That's when he asked the Lord to give him another chance to go back to the States and he promised to dedicate his life to Him.
"I called my mom and she said yes I could come back and I kept my promise."
Since giving his life to Christ Dunamis says, "I am a new man and a new creation old things are passed away. I put God first in everything I do we send it up in Prayer. His words declare that he knows the plans he has for us plans to give us HOPE and a FUTURE but we have to seek him believing in our hearts."
The gospel artiste had encouraging words for young people and it's simple, "Give your life to Jesus Christ, when you do so your life will change for the better. Don't get me wrong you will still have struggles but the Lord will be with you every step of the way and trust me Christianity is not boring."
Since his trek into Christendom Dunamis has shared stage with Papa San who is also a brother and mentor to him, Stitchie, Shelly Thunder, The Grace Thrillers and Carlene Davis just to name a few.

Prodigal Son...From the dunghill to the top of the hill
Like is the case with many young Jamaican males, his grandmother was his guardian, but when she died he "broke out".
Calvin Whilby aka Prodigal Son was educated in the admonition of the Lord by his grandmother, and she insisted that attending church was a way of life for him. Young Calvin accepted Christ at age 5, and continued through to age 13.
That was the age at which his grandmother died, and from thereon things went downhill for him...Prodigal's became rebellious and developed a 'don't care' attitude. It was no wonder with that attitude he relocated to Rema in Kingston, one of Jamaica's toughest inner-cities. In no time he was involved in gang and gun violence.
As Calvin put it, "I found protection and family in the gang."
Interestingly, the gang was called the "Fatherless Crew". Fortunately, he developed a longing for his heavenly father. He became convinced that the Lord loved him, when he realized that many of his "ragamuffin" colleagues were dying by the gun, but, he was still
alive.
After recommitting his life to Christ in 1998, he adopted his name after the biblical prodigal son and decided to use the gift of music God had given him to reach out to others.
Things looked up for him when he met musical genius and producer, Danny Browne who became not only his producer, but mentor and friend.
Prodigal Son has developed, and is now accepted as one of Jamaica's most prolific Gospel artiste.
He has performed at sold out venues, before crowds as huge as 150,000, at events such as Antigua Governmental Celebrations (Caribbean), International Reggae Festival of Life (Chicago, USA) Fun in the Sun, Recharge, Sting (Jamaica), France World Cup Qualifier Match (Jamaica vs. Mexico) Air Jamaica sponsored UK Tour, Israel & New Breed Tour (Jacksonville, USA) and many other International events.
He has shared stages with renowned Gospel Artistes, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans, Jackie McCullough, Tobi Mac, Mary Mary, Israel Houghton & New Breed, Martha Munizzi, Kirk Franklyn, Yolanda Adams and mainstream artistes such as: Shaggy, Junior Gong, Beenie Man, Bounti Killa, Destiny's Child, Jermaine Jackson, Maxi Priest, Regina Belle, Calypso Rose, Barrington Levy, Luciano, Jimmy Cliff and more.
Prodigal Son has gained the respect of both fans and critics and, is among the few Jamaican gospel artistes who are appreciated in both the Christian arena and mainstream/secular and as such was the only Gospel Artiste that appeared on the 2006 B Mobile 'No Violence' school tour in Jamaica.
He has received several mainstream awards including: Jamaica
Federation of Musicians, best new gospel artiste for 2001, the X-News Award, Artist of the Year 2001, Marlin Award for Best Dancehall Recording for 2004, U.S. Urban Gospel Award, Best Producer 2005, Urban Gospel Award Best Caribbean Artiste, and the Canadian Maja Award Album of the year 2006.
He has copped numerous number one (1) spots on charts like UK's United by 1, Love 101 FM Jamaica, Flow FM Canada, Mystic 98, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and UK's Soulcare. Prodigal was interviewed and featured on the US network CBS on the 700 club programme 'Turning
Point' where he shared his life changing testimony.
His debut album Radikal Prodigal produced by Danny Browne featured crossover hits I Wish, Woe and Radikal Style, all three songs were the first dancehall gospel songs to be played on mainstream radio in Jamaica such as RJR, Irie FM and Hot 102. His second album Still
Standing which was self-produced was voted best gospel album of 2005 by Love 101 and track #10, Journey, was voted song of the year. A second song Track # 5 Still Standing is nominated by the International Reggae & World Music Award as best gospel song.
Prodigal has been voted best dressed artiste by Buzz Magazine, made the top 10 list of the Caribbean's finest and is the first and only Gospel artiste to be signed by BMobile, a major telecommunication
conglomerate. And, he has landed another corporate endorsement deal with Partners & Financial Investments Ltd. He'll be the spokesperson for the next three (3) years.
Now an ordained pastor Prodigal Son recently launched his fourth album a double CD featuring the work of international artiste Micah Stampley, Junior Tucker and Richie Stephens.

OUTSTANDING GOSPEL MUSIC AWARD WINNING GROUP.
The group SHAZE emerges with their landmark release album called "Praise Him" live at The Open Bible Community Church, 2610 N.W. 119th Street, Miami. The release features song like: "Every Nation," "Praise Him," "Blessed" and "Show Him."
Christian/Reggae/R&B recording artistes – SHAZE, the Outstanding Gospel Music Award winning group, is also recipient of the 2007 Hopeton Lewis Caribbean Gospel Music Award for Best Singing Group of the year. They were nominated for two outstanding music awards: Top Gospel Singing Group of the year and Top Gospel Song of the Year .
SHAZE brings a unique sound to the music industry with their Jamaican background. Under the spiritual influence of God, they spread the word through music. The uniqueness of their style draws many people to them. With many years of experience under his belt, producer and songwriter, Maurice "Brian" Gregory has influenced the group towards the success of their album. The album was inspired by the need to praise God regardless of life's circumstances.
SHAZE is the first female group under the label Mastrak Productions. They have been blessed with songs such as "Every Nation"; a song that is a cliché of what Jesus meant when he said the gospel must be preached as a witness to every kingdom of every nation. "Praise Him" is another heart-impacting phenomenon that will bring the heart of people close to God. The way in which this song was done is like meeting the people where they are and taking them to where you want them to be.
Each song on the album comes with one aim - to lift up the name of Jesus and to reach every heart and soul in every nation.

Kareem counteracts negative forces with love
By: Joseph Cunningham
Mavado and other entertainers who glorify gangster lifestyles are those who Kareem vows to counteract!
He is a Gospel singer who believes that "word power" should not be discredited, and so he says the messages being delivered by "gangster artistes" have been unleashing the wrong spirit on the Jamaican society.
"I want to be an agent of change through my music, promoting love, peace and joy," he said.
Kareem is convinced that music which educates is the way to go, revealing that as a younger man he admired the gangster image as well. The 21 year-old said his involvement in the music world began from as early as age 8, when he would deliver solo performances in church, and at that same age his older brother exposed him to drumming.
August Town, the Jamaican community where Kareem lives is plagued by sporadic outbursts of violence and it is no surprise that his opinion about "message" is as it is! He says he has seeing his community torn apart by poverty and its most infamous side effect, violence.
Out of a desire to see his community and the wider society become a better place, he recorded "I will Give You Love Tonight." "That song was an effort to comfort the poor and needy through my music,' he confirmed.
Beresford Hammond, Mahailia Jackson and Michael Bolton are singers who appealed to Kareem's musical taste buds as a child and they have inspired him since. Often compared to fellow young singing sensation Wayne Marshall, Kareem has own blend of style as well as songs and he is very versatile.
"I want to uphold Gospel music because when Christ left this earth he gave us a mandate to go throughout the earth, on the by-ways and the edges, teaching love, peace, long suffering, and encouraging everyone to love their neighbour as themselves," Kareem said.
Since February of this year he linked with Aramac Entertainment Agency and they have been releasing his music. As a former lead singer with the world renown Katalyst Crew, it was relatively easy for Aramac to promote his music, because Kareem was already a recognizable face and voice.
Songs popularly known from the singer are "It Nuh Easy," "Lift Up My Hands to the Father" and the very hip "Wave Your Hands."
His latest single titled, "Why" has been released recently along with a video. The song underlines some of the challenges faced by law-abiding citizens in the Jamaican inner-city. Fun in the Sun, Genesis and many other major concerts have been blessed with his talent. To see Kareem in full flight real soon, make a visit to Integration Thursday, this Thursday at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

Dreadlocked singer worships Jesus
By: Joseph Cunningham
Ziggy Soul sports dreadlocks, the main symbol of Rastafarianism, but he is a devoted Christian. What does he mean by devoted? He does not worship the Rastafarian god, but praises Jesus.
His behavioural pattern was recognized by the Jamaican society as very strange, and this resulted in various unpleasant experiences . It is arguable that Jamaica is one of the most vibrant Rastafarian communities in the world, and so when Ziggy Soul sought to settle in a Christian place of worship, he was met with fierce resistance.
"During the period when I was seeking a place of worship, there were occasions when I was attacked physically, because of my locks. Some people told me they did not want me in their church," he said.
While he acknowledged that a deadlocked person claiming to be a Christian would not have been readily accepted by Jamaicans, he was and is still adamant that the way he looks does not determine who he is.
All these negatives were ongoing while Ziggy was walking the walk and talking the Christian talk. He had established a non-profit organization in Trench Town, which served the academic and social needs of the
