Twins of Twins walk free of fraud charges
Dancehall artistes Twins of Twins yesterday (Thursday, July 30) walked free of fraud charges when they appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
The two brothers were charged several weeks ago for allegedly defrauding a fellow artiste of more than $50,000.
Allegations are that the complainant paid the brothers the money to assist with the application for a visa.
He went to the police to report that he could not make contact with the dancehall duo.
However defence attorney Christopher Townsend told the court on Thursday morning that the entire matter was a grave misunderstanding.
He said his clients were on tour in the United States and Europe when the complainant was trying to make contact with them.
He said on their return to the country, the money was immediately refunded to the complainant.
Mr. Townsend said because the report was made to the police while the brothers were away, the police had to take action

Mighty Crown Celebrates New Sneaker Deal with Explosive World Tour
After more than a year, Mighty Crown "The Far East Rulers" and Irish and Chin will embark on an explosive World Tour starting in October 2009 to celebrate another major career milestone, a third Nike sneaker deal. The Irish and Chin produced tour, dubbed "'The Mighty Crown Dynasty World Tour," after the soon-to-be released sneaker, will feature three of Mighty Crown's five members: Masta Simon, Sami T and Ninja. The Crown Dynasty Tour will represent the first time that Sami T and Masta Simon have toured together in over three years.
The super sound Mighty Crown has once again collaborated with Nike to release the Dynasty High sneaker. The unique studded sneaker is an elite revamp of Nike's 1981 original Dynasty High. Blazoned with the Crown logo on the tongue, the sneaker is being released in conjunction with the Anniversary of Mighty Crown's Yokohama Reggae Festival (SAI) -- Japan's largest Reggae stage show. Mighty Crown members believe that this accolade serves as the perfect time to celebrate with a highly anticipated tour. Additionally, according to fans, it's time for Mighty Crown to hit the road again with their dancehall madness!
Each of Crown's members has been pursuing successful endeavors recently, which has prevented them from touring together. Now, the Mighty Crown team is set to deliver over-the-top dancehall entertainment to their fans, who sometimes have just one opportunity a year to catch a glimpse of their favorite sound. With dates going quickly, the Crown Dynasty Tour is destined to be a hit.
Mighty Crown is the most successful non-Jamaican dancehall sound system worldwide. As a clash sound, they have defeated the best the arena has to offer. Meanwhile, as a jugglin' sound they have performed in places through out the world. At this time, Mighty Crown is armed, dangerous and ready for war. Masta Simon, one of the sounds founding members, has always respected juggling, but his passion truly lies in clashing. And why not? It's clashing that made the sound famous! The Crown Dynasty Tour will consist of both juggling and clash dates, something the sound took a break from. While Simon, Sami T and Ninja tour, members Supa Gee and Coji will continue locking down Japan.
"We took a break so that Sami T, Chin and I could take on other business ventures," says Masta Simon enthusiastically. "Now that we have gained individual strengths, it's time to bring our power together to focus on elevating Mighty Crown to another level."
The Crown Dynasty Tour will certainly send shock waves through the dancehall industry -- revitalizing the sound system tour phenomenon. Mighty Crown is eyeing 20+ dates for the tour and can't wait to get back to the arena!
Mighty Crown is ready to add this high profile tour to their growing list of accomplishments. A strong business sense has made Mighty Crown the definition of dancehall in Japan. Notably, the sound has been afforded with three sneaker deals to date, a leading Japanese record label, two clothing lines and a magazine. And finally, an annual stadium show that draws over 30,000 patrons.

Bar-Bee and The Game dating?
What’s the deal with Bar-Bee and gangsta rapper The Game. People are beginning to talk regarding her liaison with him.
The sexy dancehall diva has been spending a lot of time in Los Angeles, California these days, hanging out with Billboard riding rapper and actor, The Game. In fact, people are beginning to wonder what’s the deal with the two. Is the reggae princess hooking up with the gangsta rapper? The question was posed to her and she only laughed and said she has learnt her lesson the last time.
She wasn’t about to live her personal life in public again. “No comment,” was her response. What is confirmed, however, is that Barbee recently made a cameo appearance in The Game’s latest Hollywood movie, ‘House Arrest’. The movie – which also stars everyone’s favorite ‘Clueless’ girl Stacey Dash from the films ‘Chrome Angels’, ‘Phantom Punch’, Getting Played’ and the ‘CSI’ series – is described as a “dramedy” by director Billy Washington, and centers around a “high maintenance girl who meets a quick money scheming man.” Written by Andrea Weathersby, who also serves as an executive producer, ‘House Arrest’ is being executive produced by Cassius Vernon Weathersby. Weathersby has worked on such films as ‘You Got Served’ and ‘The Great White Hope’. The Game, who continues to develop his acting career, was last in the crime thriller ‘Street Kings’ alongside Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker. He has also starred in the movies ‘Waist Deep’, ‘Belly 2’, ‘Doctor’s Advocate’, among others, and featured in top ranking video games like ‘Grand Theft Auto’ and ‘Def Jam’. The Game’s top selling singles include ‘My Life’, ‘Games Pain’, ‘Hate It or Love It’, ‘How We Do’, ‘Dreams, ‘Lets Ride’, ‘Higher’, ‘One Blood’, among several others. According to sources, Barbee met The Game on her June 12 trip to California for the Junior Reid event.
“Barbee was in the restaurant of the hotel with Dance Xpressions having cocktails when this guy, Sean, walked over to have a conversation with the ladies,” the source said. “He was so taken with Barbee. He was like, wow ‘I should have met you months ago, I would have gotten you in this movie’. She later found out that he was a movie producer and he was adamant that she had to be in his new movie.” Sean was introduced to Barbee’s ‘mommiger’ (her manager/mother, Rose) and he spoke to her about it. “Yow, the next day everyone was surprised to see this stretch limo pull up at the hotel,” the source said. Sean had sent the limo to pick up Barbee and her crew to take them to Hollywood on the set of the movie, ‘House Arrest’. Barbee met The Game on the movie set and the source said it was like instant attraction. “He [The Game] said she reminded him of Rhianna when she first started her career. He liked her Jamaican accent mixed with American and said she would make a good flavour for the movie,” the source said. The production crew got the dancehall reggae star her own trailer and quickly prepared her for her role as a correctional officer. The producer also fell in love with her new single ‘Feels So Good’ and added it to the movie soundtrack. Rumour has it that after the filming Barbee and The Game spent some time together in LA, and since leaving LA they have been in contact with each other. So, really, what’s the deal with this relationship – the gangsta rapper and the curvaceous reggae diva? According to the source, Barbee is excited to get back to LA, where she is heading to perform on another event in a few weeks. Barbee returned to New York this Monday from a fantastic performance at the 19th annual Jamaica Day Celebration at the Downsview Park in Toronto, Canada on Saturday. Despite the heavy rains that threatened to cancel the event, the promoters stuck it out and the all-star cast of Percy Sledge, Beres Hammond, Barbee, Nadine Sutherland, Professor Nuts, Canadian acts Terri Salmon, Culture and rapper Keyz delivered a great show. Barbee thrilled the audience with her popular hits. When she touched on the Junior Kelly combination ‘Missing You’, the park was in an uproar. 12-year-old KC joined her on stage to sing the part of Junior Kelly and took everyone’s breath away with his amazing vocal. In her approximate 20-minute set, Barbee danced up a storm, delivering to the Canadian massive a great performance in her soul stirring vocals the chart riders ‘Love You Anyway’, ‘Light A Candle’, ‘Can I Stay With You’ and the new bombshell ‘Feels So Good’.

Joke Of The Day
While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant and resumed their trip.
When leaving, the elderly woman unknowingly left her glasses on the table. And, she didn't miss them until after they had been driving about twenty minutes. By then, to add to the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they could find a place to turn around in order to return to the restaurant to retrieve her glasses.
All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy old man. He fussed and complained and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more agitated he became. He just wouldn't let up one minute.
To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant and as the woman got out of the car and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, "While you're in there, you might as well get my hat."

Brilliance
I am confident and serene.
Polishing a beautiful gem, I bring forth its brilliance. As a layer of buildup is removed, the gem seems to shine from its own inner light.
I, too, have an inner light--the Christ light within, my hope of glory. This light shines through me to reveal the decision I am to make or action to take.
Whenever I need a clearer perspective of a situation, I rely on the light of the Christ within me. In prayer, I summon the Christ light to show me the way.
The clarity I receive eliminates any confusion or doubt, and I move forward with grace and ease.
"Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you."--Isaiah 60:1

Gay-slurring performer pulled from concert
Jason Miller
Staff Reporter
One of Jamaica's premier dancehall artists will not get the chance to "log on" at one of Toronto's biggest Caribana events, after the local gay community complained about his lyrics.
Controversial performer O'Neil Bryan, also known as Elephant Man, was pulled from the lineup of the Sunday-night concert, dubbed Caribana Celebrity Ball, scheduled at Circa nightclub in the Entertainment District.
Kim Montgomery, a spokesperson for Circa, said members of Toronto's gay community found his music offensive, so they asked the promoter to remove him from the bill, which also includes rapper Fabolous and R&B sensation Trey Songz.
"The second that we heard that he was considered offensive we decided that we should back away from promoting him as an artist," she said.
This is not the first time Elephant Man has had a run-in with the gay community, both in Toronto and his native Jamaica. In 2007, despite protest from human rights groups, Bryan was issued a visa to perform in Canada, prompting police officers from Toronto's hate crimes unit to monitor his songs for any utterance of anti-gay lyrics at his show at the Kool Haus. He was also monitored at shows in Winnipeg and Victoria.
Last year, gay rights activist groups advocated for a nationwide ban on what they called "murder music" being recorded and performed by artists like Elephant Man. They alleged that songs promoting gay-bashing, such as Elephant Man's "Log On," have motivated brutal attacks by mobs on Jamaican gays.
Montgomery said the event was set up by an outside promoter that did all the booking for the show and she had no clue that the artist in question had slanderous lyrics in his songs.
"The promoter totally understands," she said. "We knew that it was a no-brainer and something that we had to make a decision upon."

Jah Cure gave Keri Hilson a great time in Jamaica
Did you check out the Chat! Today…well for real, Keri Hilson Twittered away about the great time she had in Jamaica when she came to perform at Reggae Sumfest last week.
According to the story during her brief stint on the Rock, her Twitter page was abuzz with updates varying from the sampling of local delicacies — oxtail, jerk as well as the more potent and widely sampled overproof rum — to fraternising with the international reggae crooner Jah Cure.
Hilson ‘twittered’ her admiration for the artiste, declaring herself as having a long-standing interest in his musical offerings. Indicative of a true fan, the songstress alluded to her ‘completeness’ after being introduced to the ‘Cure’, who was also a performer at the reggae festival. Hilson, through her Twitter page, made known her longing for a more Jamaican experience.
“And I was only too happy to provide it,” a smiling Jah Cure, who is riding high onthe succes of his album The Universal Cure, told Chat!. He said he met Keri at Sumfest as they both performed on Friday, International Night 1, “and I found out that she’s a fan of mine and wanted to get a taste of the real Yard vibes, so I made sure she had a good time,” he confided.
“I introduced her to ackee and saltfish, she likes ox-tail and she loves the vibes,” he said.
And what about the overproof? “Oh yeah … she got to sample that mixed with whatever she wanted, while I drank Hennessey,” Jah Cure mentioned.
Of the singer, Jah Cure, whose single Call On Me is hugely popular, said, “Keri has a wonderful spirit. She’s a loving person … caring, likes to help people and as an artiste you have to have all these qualities to appeal to your fans,” he elaborated.
The ‘natives’ — a term the Knock Me Down pop star frequently used in reference to all that is Jamaican — are widely known to be friendly, especially to visitors. Cure proved to be accommodating by offering an intimate tour of the second city, his hometown Montego Bay, to Hilson.

Look what police come to

By Rootsgirl:Bwoy it reall bad and terrible when you spend so many years in the force and at the end of the day the record that speak for you is ugly testimonies in court describing you as some young girl’s ‘Sugar daddy’.
For a big married man and to have his family who are left to deal with the repercussions of his actions it’s a sad day in the life of a man who came through the ranks to hold that impressive position in the police force.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gilbert Kameka young sweetheart in her testimony to the court referred to him as her Sugar Daddy.
The witness said she was aware that the 48-year-old Kameka was a married man and that he had children.
The young woman, who was 18 years old at the time of the murder in 2007, made the admission in the Home Circuit Court under cross-examination by attorney Michael Lorne.
She had previously described Kameka as just a friend.
The witness was also implicated in Kameka’s murder — along with accused Massinissa Adams, Kemar Dawkins and Rohan Townsend — but pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob, for which she recieved a three-year suspended sentence.
Yesterday the witness, who is in the witness protection programme, was asked by Michael Lorne if Kameka was her ‘boops’, but she said she did not understand the term. She was then asked if the cop was her sugar daddy to which she said yes.
When further questioned, the witness said she was not made an offer for her testimony and expressed a desire to go home at the conclusion of the trial.
Whatever, the outcome of this trial, the damage is already done.

Shaggy duped by two ‘sexy ladies’ following concert in Germany
Shaggy, who will be headlining the Ottawa Reggae Festival on August 23, was reportedly robbed last weekend in Dortmund, Germany, according to Germany’s BILD news.
Following what was described as a vibrant concert at the club Rush Hour, Mr Lover Lover, who was said to be a little tipsy that night, reportedly invited two young women to his hotel room following the concert.
The 18 and 19 year old girls reportedly took advantage of Shaggy, who was ‘put to bed’ by them –so to speak. Germany’s BILD said Shaggy slept so soundly after his evening with the groupie pair, that he was unaware of the two leaving his hotel room with jewelry that included diamonds and an I Phone all valued at about $150,000.
In the report Shaggy’s manager is said to have reported the robbery to the hotel’s reception at around 11:00 o’clock on Sunday morning.
A police investigation quickly identified the blonde and brunette trickster thieves who were caught on the hotel’s security cameras and Shaggy’s belongings were returned to him.
Both thieves reportedly said it was not planned and they will face legal actions as a result. These are two ‘sexy ladies’ whose style the Grammy winning artist possibly abhors after that experience of being ‘duped’.
Shaggy told Germany’s Lifestyle television he is in the middle of an extensive tour at the moment that has seen him do live gigs and some club appearances. He said, “[We] stop here knock this out have some party have some fun…”
The tour will continue until the end of August Shaggy said; and this is when he will be in Canada’s capital to close off the upcoming three day Ottawa Reggae Festival to be held August 21, 22 and 23 at Lebreton Flats Park.

Record attendance at Sumfest Dancehall Night

The 17th renewal of Reggae Sumfest will certainly go down in history for its record attendance on all three nights, especially on Dancehall Night, which attracted close to 20,000 patrrons inside the Cathering Hall venue in Montego Bay.
The greatest one night reggae festival on earth took place from July 19 -25, with Dancehall Night kicking off on Thursday July 23 to a packed-to-capacity venue. It was a night on which dancehall artistes gave their best … and then some. After all, it was Sumfest, the most international stage on which to perform locally.
The women of Sumfest, led by Marion ‘Lady’ Saw Hall, aka the Muma of the Dancehall, announced in no uncertain terms what she was at Sumfest to do. Entering centrestage dressed in lily white, flanked by two ‘angels’, Lady Saw declared with reverence, “Mi a go bless the stage before mi wreck the stage.” That was a signal of what was to come as she changed into maculne clothing and unleashed a string of hits from her versatile repertoire. Clearly in a playfully rude mood, she left mouths agape when she encouraged a Caucasian member of the audience to “pat” her kitty. A little in awe, he did as instructed, but it was just too soft for Saw and she urged him to pat with a little more force. It was just too hilarious.
However, whereas Lady Saw skillfully rode that thin line between slackness and downright vulgarity, deejay Macka Diamond bulldozed the Sumfest stage with lewdness and left nothing to the imagination.
Part owner of the infamous Rompin’ Shop, deejay Spice was in her element and she deejayed, danced and even sang. Yes, Grace, as she was christened, was amazing and gave a memorable performance.
D’Angel’s set was in three segments, but it is the go-go, pole gyrating, foot-in-the-air segment that stands out most. She did her songs, had all the props but somehow failed to really command the attention of the audience.
Among the males who performed on Dancehall Night, Beenie Man was clearly a class act and his ‘crowning’ by the festival organizers was an indication of the respect this deejay has garnered over his 30 years in the business. The closing act of the festival, Beenie held the capacity crowd captive for 23 minutes and was the only closing act to achieve this, as on the two nights which followed, patrons walked out on both closing acts, Jah Cure and Inner Circle.
It was a very mature, saying-all the-right-things Bounty who took charge of the Sumfest stage during the Alliance segment. Backed by his band, Anger Management, Bounty was in a good mood, declaring that he had matured and was doing a set dedicated to his mother Miss Ivy. Nothing could stop the Killer and his fans eagerly cheered him along.
Unfortunately, his Alliance counterpart and ‘son’, Mavado, didn’t have the best of showings on Sumfest and didn’t effectively represent for the Gullyside. His nemesis, Vybz Kartel had a much easier task as the crowd seemed to be in favour of the Gaza, which Kartel represents. But even so, Kartel had to word extremely hard for his forwards.
Earlier in the evening Mr Dem And Dem Yah, the The Flossing King’ Flippa Mafia, dripping in Gucci, represented well and entertained his fans. He had all the props, the champagne popping and of course, the money which he threw intothe audience – both Jamaican and US dollars, which the patrons climbed on top of each other to retrieve.
A potential heavyweight Kip Rich was not a flop, but he fell short of expectations. Demarco justified his space on the Sumfest stage, but just barely, and Assassin gave a good account of himself. Busy Signal held his own and made way for Bounty Killer who gave a performance of a lifetime.

I am one with God in all I do.
I align with divine order today by becoming still. I enter a special time of quiet in which I am only conscious of God's presence. I relax and allow every breath to take me deeper into my experience of God.
My mind is quiet. I listen. In the silence, ideas present themselves. They are ideas that reflect my soul's greatest desires for wisdom, health, abundance, and harmony.
My desires come from the wisdom of my soul, and they are mine to claim and to act upon. I affirm divine order throughout the day and know right outcomes will appear at the perfect time, in the perfect way. I put God first and experience being one with the One in all I do.

Teen caught having sex with pig
A psychiatric evaluation was ordered to be done on an18-year-old by a Resident Magistrate in Lucea last week following his being charged with raping of a pig in the parish a few weeks ago.
The accused, who is of a Westmoreland address, will return to court on October 2, at which time the report should be ready. He remains in police custody until then.
According to reports on Sunday, July 12, locals in the Harvey River district of Hanover area caught the teen being intimate with the beast along a riverbank.
It is alleged that while at the river, the teen was seen in the nude, washing the rear of the pig before proceeding to have sexual intercourse with the animal.
An alarm was raised and the man ran leaving his pants and underwear behind.
The Lucea police later arrested the accused after a report was made and charged him with bestiality.

Beenie Man ruled!
Beenie wasn’t the only one who delivered big time on the stage dancehall night, Bounty Killer came out in a militant mood declaring himself as the poor people’s voice. He made it clear he is a man now and not a youth…before going into a totally satisfying performance. His other Alliance stable mate Mavado did not have any such luck as he failed to get the crowd going. Vybz Kartel on the other hand was a hit with the ‘Gaza friendly’ crowd. It was twice the fun when later on he joined Beenie Man on stage.
Earlier in the evening young acts such as Stacious, G-Mac and I-Octane managed to give account of themselves. Digicel Diva D’Angel came out more like a go-go- dancer pole and all and for all that still fell flat in her performance. The other Digicel Diva Lady Saw showed why she is called the Queen of the dancehall. She had the crowd lapping up everything she dished out. It was even more fun she incited a Caucasian to “pat her front’ it was hilarious watching the timid man trying to obey Saw’s instruction to pat and talk dirty to her. Other acts for the night that represented really well were Flippa Mafia, Assassin, Elephant Man, Demarco, Kip Rich, Assassin and Busy Signal.

Tempo's 1st only editor's piece. (Tempo rise & fall)

My time at Tempo, lasted about 4 or 5 months. My talent was realized but not appreciated, I slaved week after week not seeing my home to keep the network afloat.
Ripper, you know how dread that grind was... Doing the work of five men is not easy & with equipment that is unrealistic for the output expected from a lunatic, while existing within a surreal bad acid trip environment alters your vision of reality & awakens demons that crush your creativity.
FM is sadly in too deep with the dark side. As is typical of workers of iniquity, you can become persuaded by their guile but being saturated in evil, involuntary muscles spasms do occur, giving way to untimely outbursts of unsightly horrendous, freaks of nature.
The good from my time a Tempo most definitely are the soldiers that I have gotten to know & built a better vibes with David Cropper, Shelton Alexis, Bami, Ripper, them boy is soldiers. God is great & he know how he does form units to do his bidding. I am glad the time has come for all now to speak up unified.

Let Go, Let God
New and wondrous joys await me.
If I hold on to negative expectations or doubt, I close myself off from fully realizing the goodness of God.
Conversely, when I expect the best, I make room for it in my life. This understanding allows me to let go of any negativity blocking my prospects for a fuller life.
In prayer, I express any concerns and release them to God. In the quiet, I receive new insights and greater understanding.
I allow my progress to continue by not taking back any of my old worries. I have let them go, and I trust God to guide me forward. Expecting only the best, I am prepared for and accept the new and wondrous joys that await me.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight."--Proverbs 3:5

Artistes in rigorous preparation for upcoming Reggae Sumfest Festival

Kingston, Jamaica:- Montego Bay, Jamaica will come alive from July 19 25 when Summerfest Productions invades the city with the most anticipated event of the summer, Reggae Sumfest.
The Festival, dubbed the greatest reggae show on earth', is known around the world for providing patrons with the ultimate entertainment package, as people not only flock to Jamaica's second city for the music, but also to see the fashions and sample other sumptuous delights available at the event.
The annual event not only brings some of the island's top reggae and dancehall artistes to one stage, but also incorporates some of the biggest acts on the international circuit. Year after year, thousands from far and wide invade the otherwise quiet city, to revel in the pulsating sounds of the bands, music echoing through strategically placed Reggae Sumfest speakers.
The Festival began in 1993 with Jamaica's Red Stripe Beer as the title sponsor and even though that partnership has since ended, the Festival continues to excel. This is evident from the recent International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) for Promoter of the Year being presented to the Reggae Sumfest organisers, Johnny Gourzong & Robert Russell of Summerfest Productions.
With only 30 days left before the 17th staging of the event, some of the show's headliners have been gearing up to deliver their best performances. Here's what's been happening with a few local artistes so far:
Spice Well I haven't started rehearsing yet but a plan is already in place for the performance set. The songs I will perform will be selected from the most popular ones in the catalogue starting with the old to the new depending on the vibes on the night of the event. As for wardrobe, of course its going to be from my own Spicey Couture line so it's gonna be eye popping. As usual first impressions last so I will come with something different and surprise the crowd.
Lady Saw I haven't bought anything yet but I usually fly out to shop so there's still time for that. For song selection I'm coming with something different. I recently recorded a one drop album so I'll be doing some songs from that and also from a dancehall rhythm that I'm producing. I'll also do song of the old stuff but nothing raw. There are no rehearsals yet so I'm looking for a band. There will be no surprises unless someone plans to surprise me. This year I want to perform late in the night but I really don't want them to rush me out of my set and hasten me off the stage. I want to finish my performance. Fans can expect a good performance with good energy.
Bugle I'm always rehearsing and doing in-studio work. Plus you know we have to keep the fitness up so I've been working out. For wardrobe, Rick B's is my designer so I'm looking forward to new designs. Everyone looks forward to how an artiste looks, Reggae Sumfest is not a casual show. I take all my shows seriously and Reggae Sumfest is another show but I'll do my best and put out extra effort. Bounty introduced me to Reggae Sumfest in 2007, last year I worked with Serani and this year I'm doing it by myself. Fans can just expect the unexpected.
D'Angel I've been rehearsing with my dancers and background singers. I'm raising the bar this year and planning ahead, I'm going to be putting on a show. My wardrobe will be blazing and will reflect class, fashion and dancehall. My performance will be in three segments, Blazing, Sexy and Inspirational. People will be amazed and surprised.
Etana My performance will be different from last year. I've already gone to two designers to come up with a wardrobe but I'm looking for something sexy and flowy. I plan on doing some songs from the old album with a little new. The band has been rehearsing on their own so by the time I get there they should be perfect. As for surprises, maybe, my first year was simple so this time I'm going to take it up a notch.
I-Octane So far I've been going to the gym to do some exercise so that's the physical aspect of it. I'm thinking of a set mentally but it's not concrete. To prepare, I've been practicing on shows before Reggae Sumfest because Reggae Sumfest is the ultimate goal. I try to stay current on what's been happening in the media. I have no ideas on wardrobe yet, but I'm gonna put myself together and its going to be something that is rootsy, earthy, cultural but marketable, and all people can relate to it. People can expect an energetic performance as I represent the name, Octane.
Tarrus Riley I'm trying to rehearse everyday I can. I can't disclose the content of the performance, but I'll be doing songs from the old album and some from the new album. I don't like to premeditate wardrobe, I just like to feel comfortable. My performance will be just as sincere as the record because I sing things I believe in. I plan to surprise everyone, even myself.
Konshens I haven't been rehearsing yet but I have some things in mind. As for song selection, I'm going to do things people know, as well as give them some new songs. I don't want to give out too much, but I'm just going to be me. The name Konshens carries a lot of weight so I'm going to do as the name states, be a conscience.
All the artistes interviewed acknowledge that the Reggae Sumfest show is no walk over'. A great amount of effort and energy is being put into making sure that performances are up to par, and outfits are beyond expectations, as they prepare for the scrutiny of members of the public and media from all corners of the world.

Sacred Connection
We are beloved of God.
God's spirit is within me and every other person in the world. This is a sacred connection that we have with God and with one another.
I share a divine kinship with every man, woman, and child on the planet. I treat others with reverence and caring just as I would my own family. And I treat myself in the same caring way.
Kind thoughts and expressions of forgiveness, love, peace, and goodwill are shared by me and others. Those I pass on the street or in the workplace, and those who live in my home--we all share a common identity.
We recognize and treat one another as the beloved creations of God that we are.
"Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received."--1 Peter 4:10

Richie Feelings Injured in Bottle Throwing Incident
Popular selector Richie Feelings, was hurt after a brawl at the weekly session on Constant Spring Road, Uptown Mondays. The selector, who also hosts Feelings Fridays, was at the controls when all hell broke loose and there was a stampede.

Reports are that things were going great at the regular Monday night session — the vibe was building, patrons were streaming in — when at about 1:40 am the mood changed.
According to one eyewitness, Mark, “I can’t really tell you what happened. I was there and then the next thing I see is the crowd moving a way and me just see like a stampede, but me can’t tell you what happen and how it start.”
When the crowd cleared and the dust settled, popular selector, Richie Feelings was left nursing a gash over the eye and his face was covered in blood, but no-one could identify what brought about all of this.
Chat! caught up with Richie Feelings yesterday and he explained that the stampede at the event, and his subsequent injury was the result of an altercation he had with the entourage of an up-coming artiste.
“Last week Monday while I was playing a man bring a CD and tell me to play. I explain that is not how I work as I did not know the tune, it is a new artiste and I don’t know if it will fit in with what I was playing at the time,” Feelings explained.
The selector added that the men then proceeded to “style him up” referring to him in derogatory terms. He said when this happened he took the initiative to announce, via the public address system, that he was being verbally abused by these men.

Centered
I live in harmony with all Creation.
Keeping my life in balance gives me stability through life's twists and turns. So if I'm feeling down, I do something good for someone else, which naturally lifts my spirits.
If I feel a lack energy, I exercise, which calls forth power from a reservoir within me. I make and keep regular prayer or meditation appointments, ensuring that I have time alone with God each day.
The serenity I experience brings an inner and outer balance to my life. Connected to the good in me, I am in harmony with the good of all Creation.
Centering myself in God, the source of all life, brings life into perspective.
"Agree with God, and be at peace; in this way good will come to you."--Job 22:21

Capleton, the fire never stops blazing!
By Lydia Patel

The original fireman himself, Capleton tore up the Koolhaus Saturday night in Toronto. An estimated 2,000 people were out in attendance for the annual redemption show that promises nothing the best in reggae that the city can offer. It was a night of great vibes and definitely lots of fire. He delivered a high impact, energetic show for a full hour and fifteen minutes. The entire night was dedicated to reggae music…with Dj Starting from Skratch at the turntables. Capleton’s excellent stage presence and command of the crowd keeps him as one of premier reggae entertainers in the business. Torontonians were at their feet and of course, with their lighters in the air! He recently wrapped up another stellar performance at the 6th edition of Montreal International Reggae Festival where he headlined Saturday’s dancehall night. Capleton delivered a mix of accapella, while dressed in his all gold regalia for the night. Once he hit the stage we knew that the fireman would be here for a minute.

Tito the only Jackson brother coming for Sumfest

Last week Thursday at an emergency press conference hosted jointly by Summerfest Productions and the Ministry of Culture, it was announced that three brothers of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, were coming to Jamaica and two of them would perform at Reggae Sumfest. The three brothers who were confirmed to travel to the island were Tito, Jackie and Randy Jackson, former members of the sensational US group, the Jackson 5.
Tito, it was stated, was set to also perform on International Night II, Saturday July 25 alongside his brother Randy.
Yesterday, however, in response to damning Internet reports of another Jackson brother — Jermaine — blasting wire reports that he and his brothers were coming to Jamaica, Sumfest organizers declared that at no time was Jermaine said to be coming to Jamaica.
Sumfest promoter Robert Russell, is quoted in one daily newspaper as saying, “Tito and Jackie are already confirmed, and we are awaiting confirmation from Randy and Marlon.”
Then, last night the Ministry of Culture issued a release stating that Tito Jackson and his band will be traveling to Jamaica on Friday to perform at Reggae Sumfest. No mention of Randy or Marlon and only a passing reference to brother Jackie and his wife who were reportedly "thrilled by the invitation" to vacation n Jamaica .
The ministry release stated: “Prime Minister Bruce Golding spoke with Michael Jackson’s brother, Tito, to express condolence on behalf of the people of Jamaica; and to offer the warmth of his country to the Jackson family … Tito takes up Jamaica’s offer on Friday when he arrives in Montego Bay for a retreat and the music festival, Reggae Sumfest, which will be dedicated to the memory of his brother."
According to the news release, the Government of Jamaica offered members of the Jackson family a vacation in the island to help them deal with the loss of their brother, Michael.
Tito and his band will be flown to Jamaica aboard the private jet of the Sandals hotel chain boss, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, the Ministry confirmed in its release.

How corruption fi stop
By Rootsgirl

Honestly, I have to wonder how inhell corruption is going to stop when those who are charged with maintaining the laws are the very ones breaking it. Take the care of the police man in yesterday's Star report who is now behind bars because he allegedly sold a colleague's weapon to gunmen.
Not only is he putting his own co-workers lives in danger, but he himself could someday end up being a victim of the very same gun.
No amount of money can make up for a life...it's a sad day when a policeman can't see past the dollar signs to remember the months of training he went through, the vow that he is under to serve and to protect.
Imagine our hard earned tax dollars is is going towards their pay and look at what they turn around and do.
Of course we are not saying that there aren't decent police officers in the force, but with cops like those making the news, it makes it hard for anyone to trust them.
The main reason crime continue to surge with no solution is that too many politicians and lawmen are in bed with them...so at the end of the day...crime is paying for some people and they have no intention of putting a stop to it.

Shine
I shine the light of love and understanding.
Looking up at the night sky, I cannot count the multitude of stars, but the longer I look, the more I see. Each one is a beacon of light.
I, too, am a beacon of light, a light of love and understanding in the world. I may never know when my light is inspiring someone else along his or her way. I do know that as divine light shines through me, I radiate love and acceptance.
I feel joy as I consider that I am brought to each situation in my life for a purpose. It is up to me to let my light shine brightly, and I do, for I am expressing the divine light that illumines my soul.
"I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."--Isaiah 49:6

Grace
Grace inspires me to bless others.
Grace manifests as a continual flow of good into my life. I look for blessings, and whenever a surprise blessing causes me to smile, I know that it is the activity of grace.
Spirit brings me good and only good. In every situation, I know that divine guidance and grace will see me through.
Aware of Spirit's constant, steadying presence, I retain a bright outlook on life. My positive energy emanates from within me as a word of assurance or a helpful hand, letting others know I care. My loving thoughts and prayers touch others.
Grace inspires me to bless others, and blessings return to me greatly multiplied.

My Mission
I am an expression of God's love.
During my lifetime, I have the opportunity to explore many paths. I may fulfill several roles in my family; I may have different careers. I may be guided to pursue education or to travel to far-off lands.
Wherever I am and whatever I do, I remember that my true mission is to express God's love in the world.
I am an instrument of peace in times of conflict, beholding each person as a child of God. I am a channel for good as I share my blessings with others. In fulfilling my mission, I provide comfort and strength to those who may be struggling.
In simple ways every day, I am an expression of God's love, touching lives and making a difference.

Renewal
I am a radiant child of God. --Adapted from Daily Word, July 18, 1959
I am eternally revealing more of my inner perfection as a radiant child of God. The passing of years has no power to lessen this perfection. Each year lends new meaning to my unfoldment.
I am a radiant child of God. I approach each day with a fresh outlook. My interest in life is quickened. With renewed vigor I participate lovingly and enthusiastically in the activities that offer the greatest opportunities for me to express my talents and abilities.
I am a radiant child of God eternally unfolding more of the perfection of my indwelling Lord.

Michael Jackson`s Brothers For Reggae Sumfest Jamaica

CaribPR Wire, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. July 17, 2009: The surviving members of the Jackson Five and brothers of the late King of Pop are set to be in Jamaica next week for the salute to Michael Jackson by Reggae Sumfest, the world`s greatest reggae festival.
Three of the original members of the Jackson Five are confirmed to arrive in Jamaica for the festival next Friday, officials of Summerfest Productions revealed yesterday. Toriano Adaryll `Tito` Jackson, Randy and Jackie Jackson have been confirmed but Marlon, the other original member of the band, may also join their brothers in Jamaica for the 17th annual presentation of Reggae Sumfest, which is this year dedicated to the memory of the fifth member of the Jackson Five, the late, great, Michael Joseph Jackson.
Tito Jackson is set to also perform on the final night of the show, Saturday, July 25th.
Officials also revealed that Katherine Jackson and Michael Jackson`s three children will be guests of the Jamaica government at a later date. They will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement award for Michael Jackson by Summerfest productions.
The Jackson`s are also scheduled to award the government and the people of Jamaica a plaque to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love that has been shown to Michael Jackson in Jamaica.
Jackson had actually visited and performed in Jamaica in 1975 as a member of the Jackson 5. The group was hosted then by former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga, at his home in Temple Meads, St Andrew. At the time, Seaga was opposition leader and head of the now ruling Jamaica Labor Party. The Jackson 5 was the opening act for Bob Marley and the Wailers at the outdoor National Stadium.
Jackson passed away on Thursday, June 25th in Los Angeles after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 50.
Caribbean fans have been among those joining millions around the world and the Jackson family, in mourning his sudden death.
The 17th annual Reggae Sumfest will get underway this Sunday, July 19th, with the annual beach party at Cornwall Beach, featuring the sounds of many of Jamaica`s more popular local deejays including Errol Lee & the Bare Essentials, Cameal Davis, Khalil, Timeka Marshall, ZJ Ice, DJ Mix Master Marvin and Crazy Nei, backed by Danger Zone Super Strong.
But it is the Jagra Dancehall Night, on Thursday , July 23rd, that is sure to crank the heat of this resort haven up higher, as a slew of stars, including Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Lady Saw, Elephant Man, Busy Signal, Spice, Kip Rich, Flippa Mafia and D`Angel take over the stage.
On Friday, July 24th, American R&B stars Ne-Yo and Jazmine Sullivan are set to bring some smooth vibes to the festival while Morgan Heritage, Jah Cure, Coco T and Queen Ifrica are sure to thrill the conscious reggae followers.
The curtains come down on Saturday, July 25th with performances from multi-Grammy-winning star, Tito Jackson, Toni Braxton, Nas, Damian `Jr Gong` Marley, Tarrus Riley, Etana and Da`Ville among others.
Executive Director of Summerfest Productions, Johnny Gourzong, says air and hotels are going fast but can still be accessed through the site along with tickets, at www.reggaesumfest.com.
The Festival has devoted a section of its website to accommodation and fans can view a list of hotels in Montego Bay, as well as read short reviews and other information on the properties. Organizers say they will continue to add more properties as the deals are finalized.
Some of the hotel options available for patrons include the 5 star Fiesta Grand Palladium, which is a mere 25 minutes from the Sangster International Airport. This hotel boasts some 1,000 rooms, a fitness centre, a `club` for children, seven restaurants, and five swimming pools, and a spa.
Reggae Sumfest is presented annually by Summfest Productions. Sponsors for the 2009 event include the Jamaica Tourist Board, Digicel, Air Jamaica, Jamrock Magazine, Ocean Spray, Jagra, Appleton, Carib Beer and Mackeson among others.
Reggae Sumfest brings in an estimated 5,000 visitors to the island, along with US$5 million in revenue to Jamaica, according to a survey done by the Jamaica Tourist Board. Reggae Sumfest is produced annually by Summerfest Productions.

Joy
My joy is complete through my connection with God.
I am a joyful child of God. On this day and every day, joy fills my heart and overflows into my conversations, work, and activities.
No person or circumstance can take away my happiness unless I let them. Joy is always accessible to me through the indwelling spirit of God.
In my daily spiritual practice, I release any cares or concerns. Connected in mind and heart with God, I then relax into a peaceful state of being.
From this place of calm, joy arises, and I know that all is well. I have the energy to go forth to do what I need to do.
Spirit invigorates me, and my joy is boundless.

Boosting Canada’s Talent the Ottawa Reggae Fest Expands

Canada’s capital will soon be blessed with the up beat one drop reggae rhythm, set to flood Lebreton Flats Festival Park at the second staging of the Ottawa Reggae Festival. Plans are in progress to saturate the place with full blown Reggae vibes on August 21, 22 and 23, 2009 and the spotlight will be on the strong contingent of Canadian talent.
It will be big things in a city that is used to the ‘grand and impressive”; where more than 6,000 reggae lovers flocked the inaugural annual festival last year. “That was supposed to be a one day show that was extended to two days by popular demand,” Danielle Vicha, Festival Director, told Yardflex recently. The success of 2008 influenced the festival’s current expansion allowing more artists to be featured over three days this year.
We want to offer more opportunities for Canadian artists to perform, ”Vicha said. “There will be a nice blend of Canadian artists representing the music community.”
Some of these artists have been blazing up Canada and abroad for some time; they include: Reggae artist, Tam – T, R&B singer, Lady Shelz, Reggaeton sensation, El Neggro and Haitian rap artist J Creole.
While focusing on its mission to promote Canada’s cultural arts and diversity in the Nation’s Capital, with 75 percent Canadian Content, the festival features Grammy winning Shaggy and stellar international performers like, Tanya Stephens, Pressure, Baby Cham and Daniel.
As was the case in year one, there will be something to attract everyone. Festival President, Benjamin Williams said, “There will be a kids’ zone for families with a baby changing station…[as well as] front stage accommodations in the Heineken VIP Lounge for persons with disabilities for no extra charge.”
The different genres to be showcased include Reggae, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Soca, Kompa, World Bear, R&B and Hip Hop. A dub poetry showcase will feature performances by Nth Digri, Doretta Charles and Manchilde. Some of Ottawa’s hottest Dance Crews like: Dy-Verse and Full Clip, will strut their stuff.
“There are so many great performances,” says Vicha, But best of all there is only one stage so you won’t miss a thing”

Emerge
I am embracing a new way of life.
I am ready to move beyond any shadow from my past. I don't let who I have been interfere with who I am becoming. I feel the excitement from accepting that I am ready to begin a new way of life.
I start by knowing that God is with me every step of the way. I pray for guidance, I listen for divine ideas, and I act on them with confidence.
I expect good to come to me and through me. I give and receive each blessing with gratitude.
Encouraged by the spirit of God within me, I embrace the possibilities ahead and move into a new way of living.
"And he said to the man who had the withered hand, 'Come forward.' ... 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out, and his hand was restored."--Mark 3:3, 5

Inner Peace
I feel the peace of Spirit in this moment.
I take a few moments of rest from all activities--from thinking and talking, looking and doing--and become still. I let go of any expectations of what I should feel or do. The less I focus on myself and my surroundings, the more at peace I am.
As I maintain awareness of the present moment, there are no concerns to distract me, no disruptions to my time alone with God. I rest in the silence. Serenity washes over me, relaxing the muscles in my body. All tension is released.
The peace I experience in the quiet of this sacred moment brings respite and renewal, for great strength flows from the peace of God within.
"The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace."--Numbers 6:26

Laden’s indecent language case put off

Laden, who is known for his hit single Time to Shine case did not start as was expected yesterday (Tuesday) in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court.
The matter could not be heard as the artiste is presently on tour and his attorneys asked for a postponement.
The situation was further compounded by the absence of a Justice of the Peace for the sitting of the Petty Sessions Court.
Laden was slapped with charges of disorderly conduct and using indecent language following an incident on May 27.
It is reported that a police sergeant was chiding a teenager in uniform, who was in the company of a group of men, beyond school hours.
Mr. Aaron allegedly intervened and verbally abused the policeman claiming the girl was his sister and the men were his friends.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Lord help us
By Rootsgirl

After reading a story in the Star I had to wonder to myself what the world is coming to.; For all those who are saying that it’s just music then they had better rethink that one. An elderly man asked a teen to desist from listening to the ‘nasty’ music as all he was hearing was expletives and instead of obeying the elder the teen proceeded to attack the poor man, because he didn’t like the fact that he was being chided for his taste in music.
After going to court the teen eventually walked free as the elderly man spoke with his step father and decided not to press charges.
Now to tell the truth, I don’t think they did the best thing for him, cause no doubt he will again attack anyone else who dare to come between him and his nasty music.
The aggressive, disrespectful music is doing its job, it’s producing some angry young people who have little regard for authority.
At the end of the day, you can all say this and that, debating the matter any which way you want, but the stark naked reality is that, parents need to step in now and rescue their kids before it is too late.
Start monitoring what they are listening in the name of music…don’t think the disrespect won’t reach you too.
Let’s start setting some standards now..just because DJs choose to record foolishness don’t mean we should give them audience with it.

Judah Tribe is blessed with success

With a style that is reminiscent of the golden age of reggae music,
Judah Tribe has successfully honed its unique blend of soul reggae. Led by singer/guitarist Josh David and music director/keyboardist, Eric “The General” Toussaint, the 8 member ensemble of dynamism is no stranger to first class venues and lively music scene in the US and around the world.
Its members have international roots, stemming from: Africa, Jamaica, France, Haiti and the USA – giving Judah Tribe not only a unique eclectic sound, but also an amazingly huge international following.
“New Day Dawnin” is the title of their recently released debut album that highlights the group’s diversity. From the smooth love song, "Sometimes Love" to the highly political "Sleepwalker," Judah Tribe has captured the imagination of its fans.
Comparisons to legends such as Steel Pulse, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley are not uncommon for Judah Tribe, whose music has been heard far and wide. They have been showcased inside the walls of the United Nations as well as at many prestigious events including; Chase Sounds of The City at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Target 1st Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City. Danny Simmon's Corridor Gallery, S.O.Bs and Galapagos in New York City have also welcomed Judah Tribe as featured performers.
Judah Tribe’s success stems from the excellent musicianship of its members, some of whom have been affiliated with a few of the greatest names in music. Josh David currently tours with Q-Tip and has played with internationally-renowned artists: Stevie Wonder, Common, Rene Neufville and Joy Denalane.
Together with Toussaint, David has crafted a phenomenal sound that is
stirring a great deal of conversation/buzz.

Guidance
Divine light illumines my way.
Perhaps I am at a crossroads in life: If I go straight ahead, life continues much as it has been. If I turn to the right or left, I find a totally new adventure.
Whether I stay with the familiar or open to change, I will always be guided to my good as I follow the way illumined by divine light. With this guidance, I have nothing to fear. My clear thinking prepares me for the unexpected and the anticipated.
I understand by intuition. I know what feels right for me at the time. And it's okay if there are surprises along the way. I am flexible and strong in spirit.
I am blessed by the beauty and majesty of Creation that divine light reveals as I follow the illumined path that is before me.
"Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light."--Genesis 1:3

Prosperity
I live an abundant life and claim my good now.
If I want more abundance in my life, I need to ask myself: What kind of prosperity do I seek?
Prosperity is more than money. It is also well-being, loving relationships, and an awareness that I am a blessing in my home, workplace, and community.
All that God provides is available to me, for I am God's beloved child. I trust in God. I accept in mind, heart, and soul that I am worthy of God's abundant good in ever-increasing ways.
Wisdom flows through me as divine ideas that lead me to greater expressions of prosperity. I claim my good now. Blessed with health, love, and a sense of purpose, I live an abundant life.
"In him we live and move and have our being."--Acts 17:28

Stories behind the hymns

On March 40, 1858, over 5,000 men gathered for a mass meeting sponsored by the YMCA. Young Dudley Atkins Tyng, bold, fearless and uncompromising, preached from Exodus 10:11, “Ye that are men, go and serve the Lord.”
Over 1,000 of the men were converted; the sermon was called “one of the most successful of the time”; the entire city was being aroused; a religious awakening was gaining force.
The next week Tyng returned to his family in the country
On Tuesday, April 13,1858, he was witnessing the operation of a corn-thrasher in his barn. Raising his arm to place his hand on the head of a mule which was walking up the inclined lane of the machine, the loose sleeve of his morning gown was caught between the cogs.
Tyng’s arm was lacerated severely, the main artery severed and the median nerve injured. Six days later, he died.
His last words: “Stand up for Jesus, father; stand up for Jesus; and tell my brethren of the ministry, wherever you meet them, to stand up for Jesus.”
The Rev. George Duffield, Jr., pastor of Temple Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, heard the account of his friend’s passing at a memorial service, and wrote this hymn.
Thus, the dying words of an Episcopal clergyman inspired a Presbyterian minister to write a poem.
—Ernest K. Emurian
Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss;
From vict’ry unto vict’ry
His army shall He lead,
Till ev’ry foe is vanquished,
For Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up!—stand up for Jesus!
The solemn watchword hear;
If while ye sleep He suffers,
Away with shame and fear;
Where’er ye meet with evil,
Within you or without,
Charge for the God of battles,
And put the foe to rout.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
The trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict
In this His glorious day;
Ye that are men now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger,
And strength to strength oppose.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own;
Put on the gospel armor,
And watching unto prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
The day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of Glory
Shall reign eternally.

Harmony
I live in harmony and peace.
A candle radiates light from the center of its flame. In the same way, the love of God glows from within me and radiates to the people around me.
As an expression of divine love, I respond to others with compassion. I welcome opportunities to share kind words, to act in thoughtful ways, and to show consideration for each person in my life.
As I bring harmony and understanding to my relationships, I am fulfilled, because I am serving a greater good. I am a channel of God's love and an ambassador of peace.
With the love of God to guide me, I live and work harmoniously with all whose lives I touch.
"Agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you."--2 Corinthians 13:11

Forgive
I forgive myself and others.
If ever I am disheartened by my own missteps or careless words, I renew myself emotionally and spiritually through prayer. Opening to God's grace, I affirm: God loves me unconditionally.
The more loving and gentle I am with myself, the more I am loving and gentle toward others. As I understand myself at a deeper level, I am more compassionate. Each day, I am given countless opportunities to gain wisdom, to share compassion, and to convey acceptance. And I do.
With a fresh and positive outlook, it is easier for me to extend forgiveness to myself and others. I accept God's love and know that I am whole and worthy just as I am.
"Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord; his appearing is as sure as the dawn."--Hosea 6:3

What’s with artistes and being in trouble with the law

What’s with all these DJ and constantly being in trouble with the law. Maybe if they abandoned the bad man tunes and try to be better role models then things would be a whole lot better. At one point or another they have had to face the courts.
It’s a sad statement on our music and our culture when the persons who are supposed to be raising the flag and keeping the standards high are in and out of court for one misdemeanor or the other.
Ninja Man who showed some promise after spending time in prison and coming out pushing the One Umbrella movement is now battling to be a free man.
Other DJs has had scrapes with the law and even the Magnum King of dancehall has somehow now found himself in the same situation.
He has not even had time to make his name in the biz and now he has a legal situation facing him where he has been accused of stabbing a man in Clarendon.
Hot on the heels of all the dancehall passa is Bounty Kiler who had to spend last night (Thursday) in jail after he turned himself in where he was formally charged with unlawful wounding, assault at common law and illegal possession of a firearm. This stemmed from a 2007 incident on St Lucia Avenue, New Kingston, in which he and others reportedly assaulted a man.
Allegations are that on September 27, the entertainer and group of men were driving along St Lucia Avenue when they came upon the complainant whose vehicle was blocking their path.
Pryce and his entourage wanted to pass the complainant but a verbal altercation developed.
It is alleged that popular dancer, Ice — who was shot dead in January this year — was a part of the deejay’s entourage and emptied a bottle of water on the complainant, who then came out of his vehicle.
Police say the man was attacked by the group and Bounty Killer used a gun to hit him.
I need not mention Sizzla and his spats, plus others who have been fined by using indecent language on stage.
Come on, let it be about Music Alone as Ginjah says. Leave out the passa passa and start focusing on the sweet dancehall and reggae beat.

Flip it Fridays to rock the Quad
By Rootsgirl

Last Friday, the Appleton Temptation Isle lead-up event Flip It Friday took over New Kingston’s party headquarters, The Quad Nightclub. With house disc jockeys, free-flowing Appleton, and the unmistakable high energy flavour of communications giant Digicel. Flip It Fridays shook the venue with pulsating, well selected music, and flip phone giveaways.
The event is a part of Digicel’s energetic ‘Flip It To ATI’ campaign, for which dancehall’s ‘Energy god’ Elephant Man is the spokesperson.
“It was a perfect synergy. We needed someone who could aptly portray what this campaign is, and Elephant Man was simply perfect,” said Digicel’s senior sponsorship manager Shelly Ann Curran.
She said that Flip It Fridays is the only place to be on a Friday.
“The Flip It Fridays series will be marked every week by great music, indelible Digicel flavour including flip phone giveaways and credit giveaways on an epic scale. And the best part is that Digicel is taking Flip It Fridays to Pier Pressure, a weekly ATI lead up event held at Pier One in Montego Bay, and that the Digicel flavour will also be inside Temperature, another party in Montego Bay”
The Flip It Friday’s series will run until the start of the Appleton Temptation Isle, which begins on August 5. The ensuing days of partying will encapsulate the world famous Negril Hip Strip and after 11 tantalising parties, the series ends on August 9.
The Appleton Temptation Isle party weekend was created in 2001 by Alex Chin who had the concept of staging a series of parties at once for one price. Stages, around which the series was centred, was the first official ATI event and was staged on August 4, 2001 at Risky Business. Since its inception, a number of parties have been added and subtracted from the line up, but this year, the series boasts 11 events to be staged over five days, namely Xtatiq Pretty in Pink, Rhythm & Booze, Wildsides, ATI Toga Party, Fusion, Temptation Live, Stages, Colours, Tempted, ATI Appleton Hip Hop Jouvert and the ATI Welcome Party .

Etana rocks Amsterdam

Jamaican reggae artiste Etana rocked the European city of Amsterdam, with a performance like only the Strong One could on Sunday July 5.
Acclaimed as the reigning princess of reggae, Etana paraded a regal-looking outfit as she crooned her hit singles at the Two Seven Splash reggae concert, which also featured fellow reggae acts Bunny Wailer, Buju Banton, Irie Love, and Terry Lynn.
Etana treated the packed venue of screaming Reggae lovers to songs from her debut studio album The Strong One as well as some of her more recent studio work, which they loved. As she belted out tunes like Jah Chariot, Money, Roots Warrior Love, I Am Not Afraid, and more, as her planned set was interspersed with unplanned acapella renditions of tunes from the album like Free and Live and Love Life. With her catalogue of powerful reggae music, soulful songstress got the crowd excited, causing the audience people to chant along with her.
“Amsterdam was very good to me. I love the vibe here, and they really love my music and reggae music on a whole. The reggae culture is so alive and vibrant in the country, it’s like I never left home,” she said.
After the show, she did several interviews for numerous radio stations and entertainment websites, and received positive reviews from entertainment journalists at the event.
The Strong One made her way to Amsterdam after performing with reggae ‘messenger’ Luciano in the Caribbean island of St Kitts. She performed for 10,000 people at that country’s Labour Party Super Rally, and then again at an inspirational youth workshop, aimed at encouraging St Kitt’s youth at using their talent positively.
“Oh, St Kitts was wonderful. I love performing in the Caribbean, our people are the best!” commented the singer, before mentioning that she misses home.
“Right now, I’m homesick, but I’m having fun on the road, and I'm meeting some really great people, and connecting with as many fans and music lovers as I possibly can.”
Etana will continue her tour of the West Coast of the United States, heading to Oregon and Washington, and then cities in Canada. The tour ends on July 18 in California.

Ninja still behind bars

The Don Gorgon's troubles are far from over as he faces even more jail time. Desmond Ballentine aka Ninja Man will have to spend more time behind bars following his arrest four months ago on murder and gun charges.
The DJ was further remanded in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court Thursday morning.
His attorneys are expected to renew their bail application next Friday, however, the court has set a preliminary enquiry date for September 7.
The entertainer and his 20-year old son Janiel Ballentine along with Clayton Dennis and Seymour Samuels are charged with the murder of Ricardo Johnson, 20, a resident of Olympic Gardens in St. Andrew.
Mr. Johnson was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on March 16.

Faith
I am living in faith.
My faith stays with me throughout my day. Each meeting or encounter is a divine appointment. I am where I am meant to be to give and receive a blessing.
During the day, I may be a student, at other times a teacher, but always I am learning. As I connect with others, I focus on whatever benefits us mutually.
I may just "happen" to meet someone and learn of an opportunity that is perfect for me. Or in conversation, I may share information that is just what someone needed to hear.
Keeping my divine appointments each day, I am receptive to the myriad ways God works through people and circumstances to bless me. I am living in faith.
"Beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God."--Jude 1:20-21

Montreal’s International Jazz Festival Embraces Jamaican Musical History
By: Jaide

The 2009 Montreal International Jazz Festival’s historic moments continued this week with a two pronged celebration of Jamaican musical rifts.
On July 6 the festival collaborated with the talented team of Swiss filmmaker Stascha Bader and Montreal based sound producer MossMan to launch the world premier of the documentary, Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. This was followed up with an absolutely amazing reunion with some of Jamaica’s most indomitable singers and musicians who threw a blast of a Rocksteady party on July 7 at the Jazz Festval’s free GM stage.
Nothing like this has ever taken place, neither the formal documenting of Rocksteady’s birth in film nor a reunion of many main Rocksteady ‘players’, performing for a crowd of approximately 150,000 strong.
“From the stage it was like a literal ocean of people,” Deborah Cole, Publisher of Yardflex Inc. stated, as she expressed her amazement at the massive turnout and outpouring of love and appreciation for Jamaica’s top cultural export – its music. “It seemed like the crowd went on for blocks and blocks,” she said.
That crowd was there to witness first hand the great performances of musicians and singers who started this genre some four decades ago. Singers like, Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths, Stranger Cole, Ken Boothe and Leroy Sibbles joined some of the original musicians from that era to unleash a steady and vibrant journey through the golden ages of Jamaican music. From stroller pushing parents, to youth and seniors – the audience was diverse in every way. Many joined in when prompted to sing along, much to the amazement of some artists who finally realized the boundless qualities of Rocksteady and Reggae music.
There was such warmth and a genuine spirit of ‘One Love’ on that Jazz Fest night when the rainstorms eased up to give Rocksteady lovers a chance to rejoice and remember.
Stascha Bader’s documentary carries the joyous momentum on, as it is jam packed with not only vintage tracks in Rocksteady and Ska, but also some previously untold stories from the talented few who ‘built’ the cultural phenomenon embraced by so many today.
Performers in the movie include: Hopeton Lewis who at age 16 became the first man to record a Rocksteady song. His tune “Take It Easy” slowed down the energetic Ska rhythm and marked the beginning of what became the Rocksteady era Lewis is now a Gospel-Reggae singer in New York. Dawn Penn, who is currently a community worker in London, is also featured in the documentary. Her Rocksteady song You Dont Love Me Anymore, No No No, was re-recorded by many other artists and became a world hit time and time again. Wilburn Stranger Cole narrates much of the movie that documents not only the musical changes in Jamaica, but also tells the audience about the 1960s in Jamaica, a roller-coaster decade when the island was transformed politically, socially, economically and culturally. Ken Boothe, Derrick Morgan, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt are also in the movie.
Musicians featured include: Earnest Ranglin, Sly Dunbar, Jackie Jackson, Gladstone Anderson, Hux Brown, Lloyd Parks and Scully Simms among others.
Rita Marley makes a special appearance in the film; and she speaks candidly about her first experiences with the late great Bob Marley in Trench Town. Some audience members were overheard expressing disappointment however, at Mrs. Marley’s dialogue that included what she described as her experiences as a garbage rummaging child in that poverty stricken ghetto. Jamaican born, Liz Smyth said, “In Jamaica sane people do not eat from the trash as a rule…it is the land of wood and water…and we share with our less fortunate.”
Movie tickets are on sale now through Admission Network and are also available in person at the Musée d'art contemporain or by telephone from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 514-847- 6212. Until July 12, during the film’s run, tickets can be purchased at the Musée until 9 p.m.

Comfort
God is my strength and my comfort.
On any given day, I may face a challenge. Some challenges, such as forgetting my wallet or having a flat tire, are quickly resolved. Others, such as the loss of someone special or a sudden change in my life's circumstances, take more time and strength. Whether I'm facing a small difficulty or a tougher one, the peace of God is my comfort.
I am comforted as I find a quiet place and close my eyes. I remind myself that I am God's beloved. Releasing all concern, I relax into the presence of absolute peace. Receiving the love of my Creator, I give thanks for the grace it brings.
God is my strength and my comfort.
"Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; ... For the Lord has comforted his people."--Isaiah 49:13

79 Year-Old Graduates from Literacy Programme

Honestly, there is one thing we like about Jamaicans…it doesn’t matter how old they are they are still striving to excel. This news posted on JIS website was really encourage about a 79-year-old who finally learned to read.
Below is the inspiring article:
At the recent Yo Si Puedo (Yes I Can) Literacy Programme graduation ceremony, in Gayle, St. Mary, a 79 year-old man sat proudly among his fellow teenage and middle age graduates.
Jepthah McIntosh was only 9 years old when his father died and his primary education came to a sudden halt, as he had to become 'man of the house', dimming his chances of going to a secondary school or even college.
"I wanted to learn to read and get a good education and things like that, but when my father passed away, I had to stay at home and help take care of my mother and my sisters," Mr. McIntosh tells JIS News, adding that while growing up, his dream was to become a doctor.
A few months away from his 80th birthday, Mr. Mack, as he is affectionately called, tried his hands at many things, including being a mason.
"I was never able to read until now," Mr. Mack says with excitement, noting that all he could do before he joined the literacy programme was to sign an X.
He tells JIS News that when he heard about the programme, he did not hesitate to seek further details and become a part of it, as his main aim was to be able to read his bible, as he is an Elder in his church.
"Let me tell you this, I feel so good in myself now, because being an Elder in the church I have to be able to share the word of God and I often look down on myself, because I could not read, so now that I can help myself a bit and read the word, I feel so proud," he says.
He boasts about his most recent Sunday school experience when the Pastor's wife called on him to read a passage of scripture.
"When she called on me to read the scripture, I took up the bible and read it. I was having a minor cold and my voice was a little bit hoarse, but I didn't allow that to stop me from reading," he says, lauding the programme and the facilitators at the learning centre for exercising patience, so that he could attain his goal.
Mr. Mack tells JIS News that it is very important for persons to become literate in these times, as the world is moving in a direction where "if a person cannot read, then he is sure to be left behind, because regardless of what it is that you're doing in these times, if you cannot read, then you are at a disadvantage."
"When you can't read, you can go out there and see a sign that says 'danger' and you don't know that it says danger, but after you can read, you can see the word 'danger' and know that it is danger," he adds.
Mr. Mack says that he encountered many challenges in attending classes at the learning centre, but he was determined to learn, and so despite the many obstacles he faced, he pushed himself to get to the location and took his position, which was always in the front row of the class.
"I suffer from a little arthritis in my shoulder, but other than that, nothing else hinders me from coming to the classes. I come here with one goal in mind and that is to learn to read," he says, adding that he enjoys his teachers as well as being a father, grandfather and friend to his classmates.
Focussing on his workbook at the centre, he says that he was driven by its title, 'Yes I Can!'. He is encouraging students to take their education seriously and believe in themselves that they can achieve their goals in life.
"Maybe if I had listened to some people out there, they would have discouraged me from coming to the centre. They would probably be saying that a man of my age would not be able to learn anything, but I know in myself what I can take in, so I was confident that I would learn to read," he says.
"I have not totally reached, because there is still more for me to learn here, so even though I graduated from the programme, I still come to the classes because education can never be too much and I have to get what I can and can what I get," he said, explaining that 'can what I get' means that he has to preserve what he learnt at the centre.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mack's wife, Olive, tells JIS News that she is overwhelmed at the fact that her husband is now able to read.
"I am proud of him and I feel very good because he is an Elder in the church and sometimes they call on him to do things, so now that he can read, it is indeed good for him," she says.
Mrs. McIntosh informs that she too is a student at the centre and that she is expecting to achieve great things through the learning process.
One of Mr. Mack's classmates, Odelle Gray, commends him on his achievement at the centre.
"Mr. Mack is very encouraging. He always tries to bring out the best in us and keeps telling us that, 'boy if you go on the street and you don't know something, people can make a mockery out of you, so gain what you can gain from now, so that when you go out into the society and you reach to a certain age, you can respond to people and be more intelligent'," Mr. Gray tells JIS News.
A trained local facilitator for the 'Yes I Can' programme, Shernette Hinds, says the course was carried out over a four- month period and that she was pleased that a student like Mr. Mack was able to complete the course successfully and stand as a proud graduate.
"When he came to us here, he was not able to read, so when I hear him reading now it makes us feel proud and satisfied that what we are trying to do here at the centre, is really not in vain. He is very determined and we love that about him, because it tells us that he is interested in the lessons and above all, he is intrinsically motivated to learn," she tells JIS News.
She is appealing to persons in and around St. Mary who are illiterate, to become a part of the 'Yo Si Puedo' Literacy Programme.

Jamaica is Third Happiest Nation on Earth

Jamaica has moved up 50 places in the last three years to be ranked the third "happiest country" in the world", in the latest Happy Planet Index, published by Britain's New Economics Foundation.
Jamaica was placed 53rd on the list, an index of human well-being and environmental impact, when it was first published in July 2006. It moved up to third behind regional countries, Costa Rica, number one, and the Dominican Republic, number two, in the second report made public on Saturday.
The performances of the top three countries were indicative of the Central and South American region which ended up with nine of the top 10 places with Brazil, Cuba, Guatemala, Colombia, El Salvador and Honduras also included in the top 10. Cuba was ranked number seven.
The report said that Jamaica's appearance in the top three on the list came "somewhat" as a surprise as, "it is fair to say that the country has been in some economic trouble for over 30 years, resulting in high levels of inequality and unemployment and some of the highest homicide rates in the world.
"And yet, despite these problems, the island is able to maintain some of the best levels of health in the developing world, as indicated by its high average life expectancy. Together with its very small ecological footprint, it is this which puts Jamaica towards the top of the HPI table," the report stated.
It refers to American Professor James Riley's book, 'Poverty and Life Expectancy: The Jamaica Paradox', noting that between 1920 and 1950, life expectancy in Jamaica increased from 36 years to 55 years, despite stagnant GDP growth.
"As a result, most Jamaicans have access to improved water - unusual in a country with a GDP per capita one-tenth of that of the United States. Also of note are the conditions around childbirth in the country: 97 percent of babies are born with the assistance of skilled health professionals, and only four percent of children are underweight," the report stated.
It also said that despite high inequality, "Jamaica is able to ensure that few people fall in the most extreme poverty bracket. The proportion of people living on under (US) $1-a-day is less than in richer countries, such as Costa Rica, Argentina or Turkey."
The report said that Costa Rica's high levels of "reported life satisfaction, and "happy life years", made it stand out.
"This is no matter of chance. Costa Rica, a haven of democracy and peace in turbulent Central America, has taken very deliberate steps to reduce its environmental impact," the report stated, while noting that Costa Rica has the fifth lowest human poverty index in the developing world.
The Dominican Republic had a medium score in the Human Development Index, depends on the United States for trade and has high levels of inequality, but the report said that, unlike many of its neighbours, it managed to achieve a life expectancy of over 70 years with a very small environmental footprint.
Rich, developed nations fared poorly. The highest placed Western nation was the Netherlands at 43rd. The United Kingdom was at 74th, well behind Germany, Italy and France, but ahead of Japan and Ireland. The USA fared particularly poorly at 114th of the 143 countries surveyed.
The index attempts to measure how well countries use their resources to deliver longer lives, greater physical well-being and satisfaction for their populations. The report sets out a 'Happy Planet Charter', calling for an unprecedented collective global effort to develop a new narrative of human progress, encourage good lives that do not cost the earth, and reduce consumption in the highest-consuming nations. It also calls on Governments to measure people's well-being and environmental impact consistently and regularly, and develop a framework to achieve sustainable well-being.

New forms of Swine Flu?

According to a reported posted on RJR’s website health care professionals in St. Catherine are questioning whether the country has been seeing mutated forms of the virus.
The question was put to the Director of Emergency Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Marion Bullock-Ducasse by the station who responded that there is no evidence to support this theory.
Dr. Bullock-Ducasse explained however that there are different strains of the virus referred to as sub-types.
She says the new subtype is what is now referred to as Influenza A H1N1 and is what is causing the pandemic.
"If you notice we call it the new Influenza A H1N1 because there are other Influenza A H1N1 subtypes which are not the same as what we are seeing now. We have one strain that causes a seasonal influenza but this is a particular new Influenza A H1N1," Dr. Bullock-Ducasse said.
Dr. Bullock-Ducasse added that laboratory tests help to differentiate the subtypes.
"We test for Influenza A in general and we have specific tests that identify the new Influenza A H1N1 as well as to identify seasonal influenza like
Influenza A H3N2," she said.
The country on Monday recorded its first death from the new Influenza A H1N1 virus.

Right Time
I trust God for the answer to my prayer.
What can I do when I feel frustrated that something I want to happen is delayed or shows no sign of coming about? I take time for prayer.
Prayer is my quiet time, the time when I relax, breathe deeply, and open myself to divine inspiration. Through prayer, I prepare myself to be divinely guided in all ways.
If at any time during the day or night I begin to feel anxious or concerned, I take a God-moment and pray. As I do, I become peaceful and calm. Right now, in this moment, my attention is on what is true for me at all times: I am one with God.
Although the answer to my prayer may not be apparent right now, my faith assures me that it will become clear to me.
"But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience."--Romans 8:25

Introducing gospel singer Charmin Blake

Hailing from the parish of Clarendon gospel singer Charmin has had a love for music from as far back as she remember. She began singing at an early age in church and it was not surprising that after finishing high school she gave her life to the Lord and was baptised in the New Testament Church of God. There she got involved in various groups, taught Sunday School and was a choir director for the adult and children choirs.
“It was through this I gained the opportunity to sing at most churches in the community, at gospel concerts and weddings,” she shared.
In June 2004, Charmin migrated to Connecticut in the States there she joined the Triumphant Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Joel Willis. With a passion for ministry she became an active member of the church, ministering, singing and directing various choirs.
With her heart set on making it into the gospel music arena as a singer she entered the Caribbean Gospel Song Competition in 2007 and won with the re-mix of a popular song: Hold My Hand by Glacia Robinson.
That win gave her the exposure she needed and also took got her singing career off to a flying start.
She later released three singles I Am, Hold My Hand and One Touch. Charmin told Chat! that the songs skyrocketed, her singing ministry in the United States with more and more requests coming for her to be on gospel events. Last year August, she did a combination single with Delingo entitled Pray On which “hit the airwaves like a bang”.
“My life dramatically changed with the radio and television interviews, which created a great demand for concerts, church funcions and political events. The outer State events came rolling, places like Boston and New York.
But for Charmin the biggest thrill for her was returning to her homeland, Jamaica to minister. She did this at the Gospel Vibes Radio road show launch during the St Bess gospel celebration.
“To minister to my people gave me a feeling I have never felt before and to receive so much love from them is a feeling I will never forget.”
Charmin says she returned to Connecticut with a new love and greater appreciation for the music ministry.
Charmin recently released her album Singing Glory and she is encouraged by the response it has been garnering.
“The album is all about giving Glory to God for all His wonderful works. My hope is that as people listen, the words will touch their hearts and bring about a difference.”

Goodbye Michael

It was a touching memorial service yesterday as thousands turned out to say goodbye to the pop icon. The solemn note about the whole thing just got to us. Did you see his little daughter Paris Michael as she told how her father was the best…that should tell them he had nothing but love when it came to kids…what a lot of them didn’t realize is that Michael is a kid himself.
The outpouring of love from Usher…how he cracked up singing Gone Too Soon…and the tribute coming from Smokey Robinson…Brook Shields remembrance was oh so touching.
We could go on and on about the memorial service…but I know you all seen it. We are still touched.
To his family…we at Yardflex say…Michael…you really left us too soon.

Love
We are one in the love of God.
Love creates a circle of strength linking us with our family, friends, and mentors.
At the center of every circle of love is the presence of God, for God is love. As we unite with one another in times of celebration and in times of crisis, we are strengthened by the love of Spirit.
Love soothes the mind and heals the heart. Pure love knows no bounds or limitations. It can be shared and felt by people in the same room or separated by miles. The more love is shared, the more it grows. We invite others into our circle of love to be blessed and be a blessing, to give and to receive, to heal and be healed.
"O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever."--1 Chronicles 16:34

Child pornography laws finally coming

Jamaica currently has no law which specifically treats with, or recognises child pornography as a distinct criminal offence. However, following the tabling of the Child Pornography (Prevention) Bill in Parliament, by Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dorothy Lightbourne legislation will soon be in place to confront commercial sexual exploitation of children.
However, according to a JIS release, international efforts to combat child pornography have resulted in several conventions, including the 1999 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of Children.
The Bill provides for sentences of up to 20 years imprisonment, as well as fines of as much as $500,000.
Crimes include: visual presentations with children engaged in sexual activities; audio recordings or written material that has, as its dominant characteristic, the description, presentation or representation, for a sexual purpose, sexual activity with a child; and any visual representation, audio recording or written material that advocates or counsels sexual activity with a child.
The Bill describes sexual activities as : actual or simulated - sexual intercourse; activity, other than sexual intercourse involving the penetration of the anus, vagina or mouth with any part of a person's body, or the anus or vagina with anything else; touching a sexual organ or anal region in a manner which is reasonably considered as sexual; bestiality; masturbation; or sadistic or masochistic abuse.
Visual representation includes - produced images; undeveloped film; videotape; or data stored in electronic form capable of conversion into a visual image.

All Is Well
Wherever I am, God is, and all is well.
As surely as light follows the dark of night, I awake to the day knowing in my heart and soul that all is well.
If at any time today the order and harmony of some aspects of my life seem uncertain, I clear my mind of all concern. There is no need to worry. Just as season follows season, wave follows wave, and sunrise follows sunset, all is well.
I honor myself for the perfection that I am as one of God's creations. I know that I am in the right place at the right time. All that I do today and every day is blessed with God's goodness.
With gratitude, I affirm: Wherever I am, God is, and all is well.
"My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast!"--Psalm 108:1

In Times Like These

During the fearful days at the height of World War II, this comforting hymn was written.
In the midst of a busy day as a housewife, Ruth Caye Jones felt a direct inspiration from the Holy Spirit. She stopped her work to quickly put down both words and music, just as they were given to her by God.
Since that day the hymn has been a blessing to countless Christians at special times of need. It has brought comfort during illness, has been used widely at funerals, has encouraged and challenged Christian workers, and has drawn many to salvation.
Mrs. Jones experienced for herself the consolation the words of the song could bring as she spent time recovering form serious surgery a few years after it was written.
Kenneth W. Osbeck
In times like these, you need a Savior,
In times like these, you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
CHORUS:
The Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the One,
The Rock is Jesus, The only One
Be very sure, be very sure, Your anchor holds,
And grips the Solid Rock.
In times like these, you need the Bible,
In times like these, O be not idle!
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.
In times like these, I have a Saviour,
In times like these, I have an anchor,
I’m very sure, I’m very sure,
My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.

Gospel Vibes Radio spreading its wings

A dream realized is how Delroy Lingo would describe the Gospel Vibes Radio station which has taken off like a rock since its official launch almost a year ago.
With over 12 syndicated stations and more to come on stream, Lingo could not be happier about its success.
“All the feedback we have been getting are positive...some of the comments we get is that it reminds them of back home in Jamaica, listening to radio on a Sunday,” the Connecticut-based host of Gospel Vibes told yarflex.
Host and founder of Gospel Vibes Radio, Delingo says his aim is to promote and elevate new and upcoming gospel artistes and gospel music to the next level, and to preserve the traditional gospel music heritage.
Gospel Vibes Radio has been a long time dream of Delingo who have spent the last three decades in broadcasting Caribbean programmes.
Gospel Vibes Radio features music, interviews, reviews, the spoken word and a prayer line. It currently hosts the largest syndicated Caribbean gospel programme and is located in Hartford, Connecticut with a local office in Kingston.
Delroy Lingo has been involved in the gospel music fraternity for over 30 years. He was road manager for the Golden Touch Gospel Band for several years. Delingo then joined Life Production Company as concert manager, and assistant producer; a position that allowed him to work closely with local and international artistes. However, his dream for the gospel music fraternity was not being fulfilled because he was not able to reach the new upcoming artistes. In 1991, Delingo left Life Production to start his own company Impact Gospel Promotion and Booking Agency. Impact Gospel Promotions was one of the largest and most dynamic in Jamaica’s gospel fraternity. Delingo’s great talent was often displayed through artiste management, and production and distribution of gospel music locally and internationally. Impact Gospel Promotions was booking agency for top Jamaican gospel artistes such as: Joan Flemmings & The Inspirers, Claudell Clarke, Echoes of Joy, Schroeter Brothers, Sister Scully, Lorene Williams, Sandra Brooks, Jerry Thompson, Derrick Douglas, Marvia Wilson-Providence, The Humming Birds, Young Batalions, Clauding Stewart and Billy Joe Neil among many others.
In 1993 Delingo hosted his first radio show Impact Gospel Time on Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) and it ran for three years. He then went to Love FM, Jamaica’s only gospel radio station and worked there for another three years. He later moved to Roots FM where he hosted two radio shows - Gospel Roots and Gospel Vibes.
In 2000, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut and continued his radio ministry with Father G as co-host of Wake Up and Live on WESU 88.1 FM. He now hosts his own show Gospel Vybz.
With the Internet gospel station impacting lives, Delingo says he couldn’t be happier...but according to him “we still have a long way to go.”

Air Jamaica extends flight package to coincide with Sumfest 2009

In anticipation of high traffic summer activities such as the internationally acclaimed Reggae Sumfest festival in Montego Bay, event sponsor Air Jamaica, has made changes to its regular flight schedule, including the re-introduction of its ‘Night Bird’ service.
“We have added one more flight to Fort Lauderdale making it five daily flights to Fort Lauderdale, and that started on June 25. This is an added advantage for patrons of Reggae Sumfest,” said Air Jamaica Marketing Manager Tracy Ann Menzies.
According to Menzies, Air Jamaica has also expanded its New York route by re-introducing its once popular ‘Night Bird’ service for those jetsetters who like to squeeze the most out of the 24-hour workday.
“We have also introduced another flight to New York making it four daily flights,” she said.
“This New York addition is a prime flight because it is the reintroduction of our Night Bird service allowing our travellers to basically play or work all day, sleep on their way to their destination be it Jamaica or New York and wake up in the city.”
The Night Bird flights have passengers arriving in time for sunrise and coffee, with a midnight flight from Jamaica which gets into New York at 5:00am, and a 2:15 am flight from New York that arrives in Jamaica at approximately 5:00 am.
The airline has also increased its Orlando offerings to two flights per day every Tuesday and flights every other day except Sunday.

World Peace
We are peacemakers, expressing God's love in the world.
Long ago, a man called Johnny Appleseed roamed the wilderness of early America, sowing seeds that grew into apple trees that nourished a young nation. His gentle and kind nature, his generosity and vision, influenced generations.
In our day-to-day contacts with others, we also sow seeds--seeds of love, peace, and understanding. Centering ourselves in God's loving presence, we become ambassadors of peace as we move through the activities of our day.
As we share and express love to others, we spread peace in the world. By demonstrating compassion, wisdom, and understanding, we sow the seeds of peace wherever we go, with whomever we meet.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."--Matthew 5:9

Lord deliver us!

That’s it…just when I think we have sunk as low as we can go along comes a story that forces me to reconsider that thought!
Reading the Star about the story where a mother and her son forced a 15-year-old girl to have an abortion because she became pregnant for him.
Now you tell me this big old bark who should know better and yet he had unprotected sex with the girl. First of all, the teen is underage so there shouldn’t have been any sexual relationship of the kind. The mother instead of telling her son to stand up to his responsibilities…cause heaven knows we don’t expect her to turn him in to the authorities, compound the error by forcing the child to have an abortions.
Looking at the ramifications…she could be emotionally scarred for the rest of her life, not to mention that the abortion could prevent her from having another child later in life.
What that mother should do is encourage her son not to get involved in relationships with underage girls…where are the mothers to be standing up for their little girls?

Today's Word
I am free in mind, body, and spirit!
The freedom to travel and move about from area to area, country to country, does come with some rules and restrictions. Sometimes, too, delays happen, schedules change, and other routes and means of travel must be taken.
Spiritual freedom, however, has no limits. I can choose how I fill my heart and my mind. I can choose how I experience God, how I pray, and how I practice the presence of God in my daily life.
Embracing freedom of Spirit, I break through any self-imposed limitations and open myself to divine possibility. By choosing encouraging words, uplifting thoughts, and positive habits, I give full expression to my spiritual freedom.
"For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters."--Galatians 5:13

Stretch Free
I am awake to my infinite potential.
If I'm presented with an opportunity that seems too difficult, I remind myself that God is within me and nothing is too difficult for God. This truth awakens me to my infinite potential.
Reaching beyond any doubt or fear, I stretch my capacity to grow into my true potential. As a spiritual being, I am powerful, capable, and unlimited. I have infinite capabilities.
Eager to be all I can be, I accept both the challenges and opportunities that arise. I can do whatever is needed as I follow divine guidance and direction.
I rejoice that, in God, I have everything I need to soar to new heights.

Montreal International Jazz Festival launched with free Stevie Wonder concert

By: Jaide
Not even threats of increment weather could keep away a crowd of more than 150,000 Stevie Wonder diehard fans from the free opener of Montreal’s 30th International Jazz Festival on June 30.
Launched with such a bang, Jazz Fest 2009 seemed to reach its crescendo from jump with Stevie Wonder stressing the message of love in a set that was part Stevie’s greatest and part dedication to the late Michael Jackson.
In a stirring introductory monologue, Stevie, accompanied by daughter Iesha** spoke of his disillusionment with what he termed, “a bunch of bull****” that has been the focus of many media outlets about Michael Jackson. Stevie put spokes in the gossip and encouraged a celebration of Michael’s memory instead of degradation. He said, “We who love the fact that God blessed us with his [Michael’s] voice talent and music…can continue to keep the life and spirit of this man alive… If u wanna do something for his family and children, then buy his music…”
Then the show began and what an absolute treat it was to have this free presentation featuring such a gifted legend. Audience members were from all ages and areas. Yardflex was surrounded by folk from Los Angeles, Alberta and local Montrealers, some of whom had virtually camped out for a good spot to view the event.
Of course all the rain drops dried up for the entirety of Stevie’s performance, that included a beautiful bluesy piece, sung by his daughter, who is also one of his background vocalists.
The forceful sounds of not only the singers but also instrumentalists delighted the crowd that gave tumultuous shouts and applauses at every juncture. Perhaps some of the most profound renditions of many Stevie Wonder hits were performed, at the concert that also ushered in Canada Day in Montreal.
As one of the Montreal International Jazz Festival award recipients, Stevie will receive the 2009 Spirit Award, joining other awardees like, Toots & the Maytals who will receive the Antonio Carlos Jobim Award.

School in shock as 15-y-o dies during game

Friends of Shadayne Smith, a 15-year-old resident of Woodlands in St Elizabeth, who collapsed and died last week at school while playing a game of 'water war' are still in shock.
The police report that the incident occurred at about 11:30 last Wednesday morning at the school. The teenager fell unconscious and was reportedly taken by the school nurse who rushed him to the Black River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Both students and staff at the school have expressed shock at the incident, noting that the youngster was “friendly and energetic”.
According to a newspaper report, Smith had just completed his end-of-term examinations last Wednesday and decided to partake in a game of water bombing, a traditional game played on the final day of school in which students simply chase and wet each other.
The police say a post-mortem is expected to be conducted to determine the actual cause of death but admitted that it is suspected that the teen may have drowned.

$500,000 bail for evangelist Dr Paul Lewis

New York-based evangelist, Dr Paul Lewis, who is facing carnal abuse and indecent assault charges, was granted $500,000 bail with sureties.
Lewis had previously been denied bail in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate's Court. However, a bail application was made in chambers at the Supreme Court it was granted.
Lewis, who allegedly committed carnal abuse on a 15-year-old girl at a hotel in Westmoreland last month, is scheduled to return to court on July 7.

Hijacker mentally fit; goes to court July 13

Stephen Fray, the man who attempted to hijack a Canjet airplane in Montego Bay two and a half months ago, is mentally fit to stand trial, reports from the psychiatrists who evaluated 21-year-old state.
Fray is now scheduled to appear in the Western Regional Gun Court, July 13, where he will answer to six criminal charges
According to reports, however, the two psychiatric evaluations which were done noted that Fray suffered from a mental disease known as schizophrenia which caused him to hear voices and see things that were not there.
Fray’s lawyer, George Thomas told the court that an independent psychiatric evaluation revealed that Fray was “not himself at the time of the incident”. Thomas made a plea for his client to be placed in a mental institution instead of the police lock-up where he has been since his arrest. The court, however, rejected this request.
On April 19, Fray breached security at the Sangster International Airport and boarded Canjet flight 918.
Armed with a gun, he kept security personnel at bay and held 182 passengers and crew hostage and demanded to be taken to Cuba. He eventually released the passengers, but kept the six-member crew on board.
He was arrested after the security team stormed the aircraft.

New cases brings swine flu total to 32; public gatherings still okay

Despite the 32 confirmed cases in the island of influenza A (H1N1), more popularly called swine flu, the Ministry of Health has not at this time placed any restriction on public gatherings.
A release from the ministry said members of the public will, however, be notified if the situation changes as the confirmed cases are expected to increase.
The ministry indicated last week that there is now local transmission of the virus and this was expected. Dr Sheila Campbell Forrester, chief medical officer, stressed that there is no need for persons to wear masks during day-to-day activities.
Of the 32 confirmed cases of the virus in the island, three of the new cases are in Westmoreland, one in St James and one in St Elizabeth. These latest cases are still being investigated and any additional information will be communicated as soon as it is received.
Persons are being urged to continue to observe precautionary measures to protect themselves and others from any influenza infection. These include washing hands frequently with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser and covering nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing, preferably with a tissue which should be disposed of properly.
For more information on influenza A (H1N1), members of the public may call the Ministry's toll-free line at 1888-663-5683 seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

God in Me
God in me is my light and my understanding.
In order to grow in spiritual understanding, I must first realize that I have the capacity for it. I am a manifestation of God, and in God's likeness, I am all-wise and all-knowing.
To believe in the presence of God as Divine Mind in me is to identify myself with all light and knowledge.
Beginning today, I rise out of the belief that by nature I am limited in understanding. At all times, I think of myself as capable of knowing all truth. I learn to rely upon the light of God within to make clear whatever I desire to know.
