It’s been awhile, but I am back on the scene. And yes, the rest did me good, but coming back into the same old situation is depressing. Instead of things getting better for our children it is getting worse. The only thing I can say is Lord deliver our kids…cause no one else can.

What is really happening to our children and why are we not doing a thing to stop it? I am tired of the many reports coming out in the media bout the abuse of those precious ones. For me, I think it is high time that government come up with stronger measures to deal with these people are taking out their lust and anger on their kids.

Look at the man who was so upset about his son leaving a foot of shoe at school that he set him afire? Now, what in the world could have possessed him to behave like that. If there was any justice in this world they would just set him afire too and let him feel how it hot...just cool it out in time for him not to die.

Then the business man who turned on his twelve year old daughter for sex, he should be castrated as he obviously doesn’t have any use for that organ of his. After all the prostitutes and other women he could have he had to turn to his young daughter, how sick than that can you get.

Who will save the kids, who will fight for them, society must now take a stance and be very vigilant, start looking out for your neighbours children and don’t be afraid to stand up. It might not make you popular, but if you can save a child from being abused another day in his or her life then that’s good.

Luciano Beating - The saga continues

First one media reported about Luciano beating and then the real crux of the story came out in Chat! To be honest I was wondering why one man would just go ballistic like that to attack Luciano, there had to be something missing!

Apparently the grudge has been carrying over from last year where it is alleged that Luciano drew first blood on promoter Freckles. In the story he claimed he was beaten to a pulp by the singer and his entourage, running him into medical expenses in the sum of $700,000. In the story he even said a friend out of Luciano’s crew told the singer who did not nothing, claiming he deserved it.

The whole can of worms was opened while at a studio when someone brought up the incident and from there the promoter’s blood started boiling again. Just as luck would have it, he saw Luciano at a gas station and in that state he was in…the beating was inevitable.

But how come his followers ran and leave him all alone? Tell you bout them loyal soldiers...when it comes right down to it, they are not so loyal after all.

On Friday February 27th the Ministry Of Information, Culture Youth & Sports under the patronage of The Hon. Olivia "Babsy" Grange will be staging a one day Music Industry Workshop geared towards educating and informing the local entertainment fraternity. The workshop which will feature a series of seminars is set against the backdrop of Reggae Month's 2nd Anniversary not to mention the 50 year coalition since the Jamaican Music Industry was formally birthed.

Amongst the distinguished guests and presenters for the day will be John Baker, CEO of Gee Jam Records, Vivian Chew CEO of Time Zone International, Claude Ismael CEO of Nevermind Entertainment, Entertainment Attorney from Atlanta Kendall Minter, Bryan Calhoun, VP of New Media & External Affairs at SoundExchange, CEO of Myspace.com Amit Kapur, Radio Announcer Wayne Jobson, CEO of Tommy Boy Records Tom Silverman, CEO of Bug Music John Rudolph and Chris Smith Artist Manger to name a few.

Among the Topics to be discussed are "International Licensing, Marketing & Artist Development", "Navigating The Digital World" and "What You Must Know To Succeed In The Music Industry".

The workshop will take place at the Courtleigh Auditorium and persons wishing to attend will be asked to register between the hours of 9AM - 10AM. Each seminar will run for two hours and the first will begin at 10AM with a special V.I.P reception scheduled for 6PM later that evening.

Irish and Chin's exciting Campus Rave Tour is anticipated to take over colleges in the US this April and May. So far, 15 colleges are already on board and more in the works. Irish and Chin aim to lock in at least 25 schools on this year's campus tour.

The Spring 2009 edition of Campus Rave will deliver top class performances from in-demand deejay Assassin, backed by super sound system Mighty Crown, to thousands of dancehall fans on college campuses throughout the United States.

"I must thank my staff for pulling the Campus Rave Tour; without them, this year's tour wouldn't have been possible," says Garfield "Chin" Bourne. "With recent economic woes and budget cuts, they had to work overtime to get things lined up," Chin explained.

With such hits as "Almighty Protect" and "Wha Do Dem Guy Deh" bubblin' in the dancehalls, Irish and Chin believe that Assassin embodies a hardcore presence and chemistry that will definitely work with their target audience of college kids of West Indian descent and/or Reggae lovers. Their theory has been proven correct. Additionally, Assassin's repertoire of classic dancehall hits sold the colleges. Clearly, Assassin has proven him self to be one of dancehall music's most intelligent, energetic and lyrically gifted artists.

"It's a pleasure to work with Assassin — as he is easy going and hard working," says Garfield "Chin" Bourne.

College kids have been craving a genuine dancehall experience at their schools for years. On many occasions, Irish and Chin have been approached by college kids regarding booking dancehall artistes and sound systems. Owing to this, they thought that the Campus Rave Tour would be an ideal vehicle of providing colleges with top-of-the-line dancehall entertainment. Launched in Spring 2008, Campus Rave rolled out with a bang, scoring performance dates at some the leading institutions in the United States including UCLA, Northeastern, Pace, St. Johns, University of Buffalo, among many others.

Irish and Chin have great plans for their Campus Rave brand. They anticipate that each year Campus Rave will expand as more colleges sign up for this total dancehall experience. Some of the artistes who are being considered for the Campus Rave Tour in the future are Beenie Man, TOK and Lady Saw. Sticking to their tradition of providing quality dancehall entertainment to consumers, Irish and Chin are quite confident that all of these artistes will "sell-off" a Campus Rave Tour without a hitch

Answer: The first destruction in the modern age of reggae name STING. Sting has the music like boxing ring. Imagine big artistes like Maxi Priest and Bunny Wailer come and get bottled. It seem to be a pattern, then the clash is at the forefront. Clashes should be for new artistes, who need to express their talent, established artistes should not be in that category. There is always a stigma in the music, from the underground to the forefront. Are they going to ban the sex channels? Why should anyone stop a man from expressing how him feel about sex and how a woman make him feel.

Answer: I am not one for the slackness. I will always be one to quote the Bible if we are called upon as singers and musicians because we are the only ones who can transcend God's teaching onto our nation. Therefore, why should we continue to feed this nation, especially this generation with any thing negative. Maybe we as singers and musicians don't realize that we were called upon by God.

Answer: I think it was a great move. We need to have morals in our society and we need to control what our kids see and hear. We can't control everything but we have to start somewhere. I know they will find things out through magazines, games etc., but at least we are trying to limit their exposure.

We need to take dancehall back to how it was. I remember when Little Lenny came out with "Gun inna Baggie," he had to do a clean version for the airwaves called "Healthy Body," If persons wanted to hear "Gun inna Baggie", they would have go to sessions. I really think this decision will not affect dancehall, I think it will only make the sessions more attended by patrons who are not able to hear their favorite songs on the radio. What they need to realize is that dancehall will never die, it will only find ways of reinventing itself, through the artistes who will continue to write good music, fashion etc.

Answer: Nothing is wrong with slackness, there is just a time and place for everything. I think the ban should have been done a long time ago, but it's the radio stations that need to be cleaned up.

Answer: According to the Broadcasting Commission all daggering and song that have to be censored from all genre should not be played on the airwaves. So why am I still hearing soca, R&B and Hip Hop songs that are of sexual content being played? Why are they only targeting dancehall. I do believe there is a time and place for everything. There are certain songs that definitely don't need to be played on the radio. However, daggering songs still are going to be made.

As for our children, they are still going to hear the songs on CDs and they are going to still learn how to dagger.

All radio station across the world censor their music, irrespective of the genre, so why does the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica believe that songs that require censoring should be banned? They need to check themselves.

Answer: Well its good, because is not everything fit for the airwaves. We think they are hypercritical by not going across the board and banning other genre of music.

Answer: I think its one of the worst decision made in music worldwide. The Broadcasting Commission is not only banning daggering songs, they are banning all songs that have to be censored. That mean all my good tunes, with a few cuss words are no longer able to be played on the airwaves. Why are they banning daggering songs, when uptown people have kiddie carnival?.

Once the government can't control something, they try to get of rid of it. They don't like to see poor people strive. Our music is accepted worldwide, is this same music put our country on the map. Look how long Bob Marley dead gone and him get artiste of the century? Is because of his music.

Answer: They should have been on it along time ago and finally they have arrived. If that is all lies within vocabulary, then we don't need to read.

Jamaican inmates at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Upstate New York have donated US$1,107 towards the hurricane rehabilitation effort.

The money came from the commissary account, through which family and friends can deposit money for the inmates.

Consul General to New York, Geneive Brown-Metzger, who was on hand to accept the cheque recently, described as "an incredibly generous gesture," the donation from the inmates, who are members of the Caribbean African Unity (CAU) organisation.

"This is an especially profound and appreciated gesture because of your circumstance," she stated.

Mrs. Brown-Metzger called on the Jamaican community in the United States to remember those nationals who are incarcerated at this time, noting that the Consulate would continue to reach out and offer assistance where possible.

"I am encouraging each and every one of you to be strong and to know that you are not forgotten by the Jamaican Consulate," she told the inmates at the medium security facility.

Consul General Brown-Metzger praised the prison administration represented at the handing over by Superintendent Raymond J. Cunningham, Staff Advisor Charles Davis and Jean King, for their leadership in allowing the inmates to "organise themselves and be able to raise funds from their limited means."

In making the presentation, Vice President of CAU, Ricardo Richards, thanked his fellow inmates for their contribution to the effort.

Also on hand for the presentation ceremony were Deputy Consul General, Tracey Blackwood; and Social Worker, Carmeta A. Lindo, who is also Founder/Executive Director of Family Unification Resettlement Initiative, a NYC-based advocacy group, which helps to re-integrate deportees into the society.

Just under 10 per cent of the 900 inmate population at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility is Jamaican.

Lecturer questioned on harboring teens in house

A male Canadian teacher who lectures at a popular university in Canada is now under police scrutiny following four juveniles being found in his home. Yardflex understand that their parents had no knowledge of their whereabouts. The juveniles will be undergoing a thorough examination as the situation is highly unusual.
The situation was brought to police attention by the parents who reported the matter.

11 year old Jordan Brown has been charged for the brutal murder of his father's 26 year old girlfriend, Kenzie Marie Houk, and her unborn child.
It is alleged that Brown shot Houk, who was eight months pregnant, in the back of the head while she was lying in bed in their western Pennsylvania farmhouse, before taking the bus to school.

The Lawrence County District Attorney John Bongivengo reported that Brown will be charged as an adult for criminal homicide and criminal homicide of an unborn child.

Brown has been arraigned and sent to the county jail.

Answer: Payola is illegal, it's embezzling the funds in the business. Hundreds of thousands of artistes don't have it to pay for payola. Why don't they just buy some regular commercial air time, it is cheaper than payola. Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh never paid payola. These disc jockeys are trying to break the artiste. Once the strength of the people is behind the music. i.e. disc jockeys playing the music in dancehall, in the clubs and the street venues it's not about what the artiste can afford but what they (the people) want. Artistes and their management don't want to feel like they are being "sticked up."

Answer: Well it happens every where around the world it's been going on since the 60's in the music business, PERIOD. However, in Jamaica it makes it hard for an upcoming talent that is more than qualified to have a music career and doesn't have the money, so that artiste doesn't get the chance to be heard, so it sucks in that way.

Answer: I have never supported Payola in the business, because the way I see it, if you have a God given talent to do a work, we should all work together. We are one family. There should be someone to take it from there to another level. Also, if someone is employed to do a job, why should we pay them again to do the same job. It reaches a stage where artistes are paying more than they are receiving from their music.

Answer: I Think payola is doing more harm than good to the business. Sometimes it helps to a certain level, but when the politics of it 'kicks in' it's not good. You might have a new artiste who may not the have the right connections, payola can help him to a level, but when you have an artiste a pay the disc jockeys to not play your songs that's when the politics of it is harming the business.

Also some promoters are using payola to get themselves much further in the business. I remember back then when a young artiste would be given a small fee to perform on a big stage show, nowadays the artiste have to be paying the promoters instead. Some of them don't even have a 'chune' that anybody know.

Answer: I don't agree with it because an individual might have a good song but because they don't have the cash, their music might get bypassed.

Answer: I hate it, it's disgusting, it is the reason why our music it at this distraught stage. The artistes and their people have to do all the work, engineers spend their time building the rhythms, record the artiste and still turn around paying the disc jocks to play the song. In the end they play whatever they feel to play. We need some strong measure set in place to eradicate payola. I know its everywhere, but its forefront in Jamaica.

Armed robbers rob St Thomas Technical High
Three armed men pounced on the St Thomas Technical High School and ransacked the school’s staff, stealing computer parts and the security guard’s pants.

By the time the police arrived on the scene the robbers were way clear of the scene. Really now it’s a disgrace.

The brother of Jamaican Olympic swimmer, Alia Atkinson, and a licensed pilot since high school, Adi Atkinson, 23, logged his last flight on Tuesday. That's when authorities say his single-engine plane went down near the Orlando area, killing him and a student, Derek Fox, 30, of Ohio.

Alia's brother who is a flight instructor from Pembroke Pines in Florida and working with Volusia County, crashed on Tuesday at 3:13 pm.

According to reports in the media the bodies and the wreckage weren’t recovered until the next day.

Nicholas A. Holter, professionally known as Nico D is a single 27 year old Norwegian reggae artist who started singing about seven years ago, when he was inspired to express his views about to the state of the world to the masses. He aims to not only have a successful career but to also inform and convey a constructive message.
This bilingual artist has performed at not only festivals at home in Norway but also in the United States, Switzerland, Sweden, France, the UK, Canada and Chile, he has also performed on tours, to what he says was very positive responses. This he expected as he says that when you provide positive music you get positive responses.
Nico D is proud to be gaining International recognition as his songs, "Ruff Times" and "Dreams" have been played on one of Jamaica's local radio stations - Irie FM. The Norwegian Production Company 'Afterglow' is the producer of his songs.
Though he enjoys all genre of music his favourite is reggae. He, however has a word of caution to the artistes of gangsta rap. He says that he is aware that these artistes are a product of their background but that they must be careful of what they say as some may take their message literally.
He is not worried about the effects of the recession on the music industry as he says that historically recessions do not affect the entertainment industry.
Nico D has done two collaborations in Jamaica, one with Jah Mason and the other with Congos. He has also collaborated with two Norwegians, Admiral P and Jaba Man.
During his spare time he enjoys playing sports: football, tennis and basketball or unwinding with friends and his special lady friend.

Deejay Spice recently got engaged when long time boyfriend and baby father, Nicholas Lall, proposed during his birthday party on February 7.

Sean Paul to hit New York

Despite efforts to reverse a decision by the Virginia Governor in the United States, convicted Jamaican, Edward Bell, 44, was executed by lethal injection shortly last night.

The Washington Post quotes spokesman for the Virginia Department of Corrections Larry Traylor, as saying that Bell was strapped to a gurney, administered a sequence of three drugs and pronounced dead at the Greensville Correctional Center at 9:11 p.m.

Traylor reportedly said he died from the first administration of the lethal chemicals.

Bell had been held on Virginia's death row ever since his conviction in 2001 of murder in the 1999 shooting death of Winchester police Sergeant Ricky Timbrook.

US media reports say Bell did not enter the death chamber under his own power and appeared to be struggling with corrections officials.

In his dying declaration Bell reportedly told members of the Timbrook family that they had the wrong person and that the truth would come out one day.

He further state that there was no justice in killing him.

Members of Timbrook's family and his former colleagues from the Winchester Police Department were among those present for the execution.

Corrections officials say Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine rejected Bell's final plea for clemency yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, Kaine said Bell's trial, verdict, and sentence were reviewed by state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of Virginia, United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

He said having carefully reviewed the petition for clemency and judicial opinions, he found no compelling reason to set aside the sentence that was recommended by the jury, and imposed and affirmed by the courts.

Singer Iley Dread’s Kings of Kings International in association with Seawind Resort in Negril will once again unite the people through music.

This concert, Unite The People, now in its fourth staging — albeit not consecutively — is scheduled to take place on April 4 at WAVS Beach in Negril.
“Unite the People was last held in 2007, “we staged a similar show last year at the same venue but with a different name, Reggae Grooving” one of the organizers explained. Singer/Songwriter Cherine Anderson out of East Kingston, Jamaica has surpassed all expectations when she performed at three of Barack Obama's Inaugural Balls earlier this year. She has also performed at the World Special Olympics in Idaho and is currently promoting her first official release "The Introduction - Dubstyle" on tours in the US, Australia and Europe with Sly and Robbie, Michael Fronti and Spearhead, Slightly Stoopid and Pepper.

Kevin Lyttle reveals new soca single

The soul soca singer Kevin Lyttle debuted his new soca single "Anywhere" to a sold out crowd at SOB in Manhattan on Monday, February 16. He performed with the likes of Serani, Assassin, L.U.S.T. and Ghost as part of SOB's weekly "Rock With Squeeze" live music series.

The new single "Anywhere" featuring rapper Flo Rida is a combination of soca and rap.

In collaboration with "Anywhere" and last year's album release of "Fyah", Lyttle is trying to re-introduce soca to the masses. He is looking forward to performing in festivals and other shows.

"Anywhere" has been getting extensive air play on Power 96 in Miami.

Foreign company buys shares in JPS

Finance Minister Audley Shaw has confirmed that Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) purchased 50 percent of the shares of Marubeni Corporation, the Japanese firm which is the majority share holder in JPS. The Jamaican Government controls 20 percent of the shares.

40 percent of this new ownership will take effect on March 4. TAQA is expected to introduce new strategic synergies to inject capital and improve the technology and diversification of power to increase efficiency and reduce cost at JPS.

President of Marubeni Caribbean Power Holdings said that the liaison with TAQA will bring about greater value to Caribbean utilities, especially JPS.

Air Jamaica to sell two (2) of their Aircraft

In the latest news report, Air Jamaica is planning to sell the only two planes it owns as it seeks to raise much-needed funds to finance its new business plan.

According to the chief executive officer, Bruce Nobles, Air Jamaica's is in need of US$135 million to offset the airline's losses over the next six months as well as to pay transition cost to put this business plan in place.

Nobles also states that the lease on two other aircraft ends later this year and Air Jamaica has already indicated its intention to return them six months early. Fortunately for the airline, the aircraft owners want to have them even earlier, which will further reduce the amount Air Jamaica would be required to pay to get out of the lease early.

Ziggy Marley is gearing up for the release of this third album 'Family Time', set to be released on May 5 via Tuff Gong Worldwide.

Trump Entertainment Resorts made the filing in US Bankruptcy Court in Camden, New Jersey four days after real estate mogul, Donald Trump resigned as chairman of its board.

Trump states that even though it has his name he has nothing to do with the company, and may even seek legal action to force the company to stop using his name. He is, however, saddened over the end of a venture that was so publicly associated with his name and image.
All three of the casinos will continue to operate during the bankruptcy proceedings, and the sale of the Trump Marina Hotel to Richard Fields, Trumps protege, will continue as scheduled.

Trumps daughter, Ivanka, whose image has been used to market the casinos also resigned from the board.

The legalizing, regulating and taxing of marijuana is one practical strategy for economic recovery during this time of the economic difficulties across the globe.

Even though marijuana is currently illegal, it is still widely available. As with any scarce commodity, the plants prohibition has simply raised its value on the black market. The illegality of the drug has in no way deterred smokers from obtaining it. The riskier the law makes it for growers and distributors to meet the demands of their market the more these illegal entrepreneurs charge their customers. Also, because of the limited law-enforcement resources marijuana producers and consumers continue about their business, barely inconvenienced.

Governments waste huge amounts of their country's resources, both financial and personnel in the on-going but futile war against the marijuana market. Resources that could be put to better use creating programs to assist the victims of domestic abuse, feeding and housing the poor and improving education and the health industry.

regardless of the laws, so why not take advantage of this fact and use it to ease the government's budgetary woes and simultaneously provide more jobs?

Much needed revenue to accomplish these goals could be raised from taxing the sale of marijuana. Consumers are already accustomed to paying exorbitant prices for their drug of choice, they would not balk at paying high taxes on the product. Instead of all the profits from the sale of marijuana going into the hands of criminals it would go into the hands of ordinary business people, giving the government added revenue when these business people involved in the marijuana trade pay their taxes.

This push to legalize marijuana may be politically difficult to accomplish, but it is time for serious thinking people to start considering how best to go about accomplishing this radical feat.

Wednesday, February 18 – Antigua Recreation Ground, Antigua & Barbuda: Windies batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan, produced another assured innings here Tuesday but was left cursing himself for missing out on a 13th Test century and allowing England to take a big first innings lead and command of the 3rd Digicel Test after three days.

The visitors closed day three on 31 for one, an overall lead of 312, after bowling out the West Indies for 285 in reply to their 566 for nine declared.

"I'm very disappointed that I got out on 94. Of course to get out at that time, at that position in the game kind of put us back as well. So I'm really disappointed both personally and from the point of view of the team as well," Sarwan said after play.

The 28-year-old, who hit a century in the West Indies' victory in the opening Digicel Test in Jamaica, played beautifully on an increasingly difficult surface, cracking 14 fours and a six off 133 balls. But he tried to reach three figures with a six off Graeme Swann's off spin and only chipped a catch to midwicket.

."I thought I worked pretty hard throughout the whole innings. I was concentrating pretty hard and to play a shot like that at that point of the game was really disappointing," he admitted.

"I was trying to his it straight but for some reason my bat spun in my hand. It's not a shot I really want to talk about too much. I'm really disappointed I played that shot at that particular time."

Sarwan's dismissal sparked a slide in which the West Indies lost their last five wickets for 34 runs. Sarwan admitted that batting was difficult but said he had stuck to a game plan: "I thought it was important for me to try to play the ball as late as possible and try and play straight, try and take away the flat-batted shots. And actually it paid off.

"I found the seamers a bit harder. Obviously I was a bit worried about the ridge (on the pitch). Nevertheless, I tried to keep that out of my mind as much as possible. Of course you don't want to take anything away from Swann, I thought he bowled pretty well also. He was pretty consistent with his line and length."

Sarwan was aware of his team's uphill struggle to save the Test but was straightforward in his assessment of the situation: "We have to try and let England bat as long as possible to try and get whatever total they are trying to get and, of course, it is important whenever we get our opportunity to bat to try and occupy the crease."

Yardflex Inc. facilitated the ‘Jamaica Live’ segments that brought readers up close and personal with artists and industry affiliates, by liaising with entertainers on behalf of Jamaica Live and actually giving that part of their proposal life.

The Jamaica Live addition to Yardflex.com became quite popular, with readers getting very involved in the live chat stream and commenting on their approval of the live video viewing as well.

This positive development for both parties started to unravel however, when Jamaica Live engaged in some unprofessional interactions while on a Yardflex initiated assignment at the studio of Vybz Kartel recently. Refusing to keep in line with journalistic standards of objectivity, the Jamaica Live team began to editorialize with subjective comments leveled against the Kartel group.

Knowing full well that there have been ongoing abrasive interactions with Kartel and Alliance, they declared allegiance to Alliance at the Kartel ‘camp’ – infuriating Vybz Kartel, who aborted the media jaunt, sending Yourradio.com and effectively Yardflex Inc., ‘packing’.

Yardflex CEO, Deborah Cole interjected in full and successful damage control mode, marking the beginning of Yardflex Inc.’s disillusionment with the Jamaica Live collaboration that was becoming seemingly counter-productive.
Up until that time, Yardflex Inc. had been giving what could be described as second chances to a duo, who came with less than impressive recommendations. After the collaboration with Jamaica Live, former partners of Thomas and Lindsay advised Yardflex Inc against doing business with the two administrators.

Other music industry players were also disapproving of the collaboration, citing ‘negative track record’ as the cause.

In addition to that, Yardflex personnel found it mind boggling that some overnight tapings of interviews by Jamaica Live, were attended by the 2-year-old administrators’ daughter, who was often on edge and seemed to need the comfort of her bed.

Then on Valentines Day weekend Jamaica Live brandished ‘the straw that effectively broke the camel’s back’.

In the wee hours of the night/morning, there were sex workers being streamed live through Jamaica Live. They were actually in the act of selling virtual sexual favors.

For a fee, viewers – who happened to be dedicated Yardflex.com readers, were being invited to partake in voyeurism.

This action was a total infringement of Yardflex. Inc.’s policies and as a result, Jamaica Live has been pulled from the website www.yardflex.com permanently.

Following this insubordinate move on the part of Kim Thomas and Dave Lindsay, known also as ‘Kali Weed’, Yardflex Inc has completely severed all ties with Jamaica Live.

Michael Lee-Chin was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica to black and Chinese Jamaicans. When Lee-Chin was 7 his mother married Vincent Chen. He attended Titchfield High School between 1962 and 69.

In 1970 he earned a scholarship to study Civil Engineering at McMaster University in Canada. He worked briefly as a road engineer for the Jamaican Government but unable to find a job in his qualified field he returned to Canada.

He had various jobs until he secured a loan in 1983 for C$500,000 from the Continental Bank of Canada and purchased a stake in Mackenzie Financial Group and formed Kicks Athletics with Andrew Gayle which was worth C$3.5 million by 1987.

With these proceeds he bought a Kitchener based company called the Advantage Investment Council for C$200,000. He renamed the company AIC and developed it into a fund that today controls C$6 billion, with hundreds of investors.

He continued to form and acquire companies that deals in investments, securities and insurance through the Berkshire Group of Companies which by 2007 amassed C$12 billion in assets. On October 5, 2006, Lee-Chin announced his resignation fron AIC and was replaced by Johnathan Wellum, AIC's Chief Investment Officer. He remains as AIC's Executive Chairman.

In 2000, Lee-Chin saw potential in Jamaica which was experiencing economic difficulties and decided to invest in his native country. He bought 75 percent of the National Commercial Bank of Jamaica for J$6 billion from the Jamaican Government.

In 2004 he set up the AIC Caribbean Fund with the intention of investing in the entire Caribbean region. The aim was to raise US$1 billion in order to make investments in businesses located in the CARICOM countries.

Lee-Chin guided Portland Holdings through a number of acquisitions in the Caribbean. In the tourism sector he acquired Trident Villas and Spa, Reggae Beach and Blue Lagoon. In the health care industry Portland Holdings acquired Medical Associates Ltd in 2006.

Lee-Chin has received many awards and accolades such as:

Being on the Forbes Billionaire's List since 2001. In 2006 he was placed 365th.

In 2002 he received the Harry Jerome Award for Business Leader of the Decade.

Obama signs Stimulus Bill

US President Barack Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus plan is his first big victory since taking office a month ago. The plan which includes government spending and tax cuts which is intended to help push the US economy out of recession was signed into law yesterday at a ceremony in Denver, Colorado.

The President said that the tax cuts and domestic spending will create millions of jobs and spur economic growth.

White House senior adviser David Axelrod cautioned that while there will be quick signs of change it will be next year before improvements show up in government reports.

Chief economist Mark Zandi said that the plan will make a difference as it is a good plan that will help the economy.

Robert L. Johnson was born in Hickory, Mississippi on April 8, 1946. He was the ninth of ten children born to Edna and Archie Johnson. He studied history at the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. He also earned a master's degree in International Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

In 1979 he founded Black Entertainment Television (BET), which was the first cable television aimed at African Americans. It was launched in January 1980, broadcasting for two hours per week.
Presently, BET reaches more than 65 million US homes. It has become the first black-controlled company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

BET has expanded into other BET -related television channels that encompasses the BET Networks: BETJ, BET Hip Hop and BET Gospel.
In 1998 Johnson made the company private by buying back all of its publicly traded stock. In 1999 Viacom bought BET for $3 billion. Johnson's 63 percent share made him the richest black person (before being usurped by Oprah Winfrey) with assets of a billion dollars after taxes. He continued to be the company's chairman and CEO for six years before turning over the titles of President and Chief Operating Officer of BET to Debra L. Lee a former BET vice president.

Johnson started the RLJ Companies whose goal was to create a holding company and asset management firm run by a minority business person. The RLJ Companies has a diverse portfolio of companies touching on all area of their business industry, ie. real estate, financial service, hospitality, sports, film, automotive and gaming. RLJ has headquarters all across the USA.

Johnson also has many other ventures, he serves on the board of General Mills, he is the first Black American to be the principal owner of a North American major league sports franchise; The Charlotte Bobcats, NBA which began play in 2004.

In 2006 Johnson founded Our Stories Films, a Los Angeles based film company.

In 2007, so impressed with the Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sinleaf that he and several Black American leaders toured Liberia with the commitment of revitalizing the historic relationship between Black Americans and Liberia. This led to the creation of the $30 million Liberia Enterprise Development Fund. Johnson was inducted into the Junior Achievements US Business Hall of Fame in 2008.

On October of that same year the Cabinet of Barbados named him as their honorary Consul to North and South Carolina.

In January 2006 Johnson became the target of criticism for remarks he made about Barack Obama in his support of Hilary Clinton. He was criticized for being hypocritical for taunting Barack for his self confessed past marijuana use when the artists prominently featured on BET glorify the use and sale of drugs.

On the 17th of that month he sent a written apology to Obama. He, however, went on to say that Obama would not be the the Democratic Party's leading candidate if he were not black.

Johnson is divorced from Sheila Johnson who claimed much of his billions in a divorce settlement.

The reggae band Black Uhuru was formed by Derrick 'Duckie' Simpson in the 1970's. The band whose name Uhuru is Swahili for freedom was the first group to win a Grammy when the reggae category was introduced in 1985 for the single "What is Life' on the "Anthem'" album.

Over the years the group went through many changes; the first group members were Garth Dennis, Don Carlos and Derrick 'Duckie' Simpson. Then Carlos left and was replaced by Michael Rose, then Dennis left and was replaced by Errol Nelson. During this period the band released its most famous album "Love Crisis" later re-released as "Black Sounds of Freedom". Sandra 'Puma' Jones joined the group in 1979 and with this new line-up; Rose, Simpson and Jones, along with Sly & Robbie as producers and drum and bass players, they release "Sinsemilla", "Red", "Chill Out" and the Grammy winning "Anthem", which were there most popular album.

Black Uhuru became one of the most popular reggae groups in the world touring with super stars such as the Police, the Rolling Stones and the Clash.

In 1985 Rose left to pursue a solo career and Junior Reid joined but only for a short while. Then 'Puma' Jones left in 1987. In 1990 Simpson reunited with the original group members. They recorded several albums and toured extensively before breaking up again amidst a bitter court battle where Dennis and Carlos fought against Simpson over the name and rights of the group. Simpson won the suit and formed yet another alliance with Andrew bees, they produced only one album together "Dynasty" before Bees left to go back to his solo career.

In February 2004, Simpson and Michael Rose reunited using the name "Black Uhuru featuring Michael rose: with Kay Starr as female back up singer they released the single "Dollars" and performed at many concerts including Western Consciousness 2004. The group has made a video and toured Europe in 2006.

Black Uhuru was re-energised in 2008 with 'Duckie' Simpson incharge and Mario Lazare of No Joke Entertainment as manager.

Black Uhuru hopes to do a 25th Anniversary Edition DVD of their 'Live in London' concert.

The group is best known for hits 'Shine Eye Gal", "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" and "Solidarity".

Spanish King and Queen to arrive in Jamaica today
According to news reports the king and queen of Spain will bestow Spanish national honors upon Prime Minister Bruce Golding and his wife, Lorna, during their two-day state visit to Jamaica.

King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía are slated to arrive in the island this afternoon and will confer the Great Cross of the Order of the Civil Merit of Spain on Prime Minister Golding. While, Mrs Golding is to receive the Spanish Commander of Distinction award.

The national awards were authorized by the Council of Ministers of Spain at its sitting last Friday.

The Government had previously announced the conferment of the Order of Excellence on King Juan Carlos and the Order of Jamaica (honorary) on Queen Sofía.

The Royal couple will arrive here at 2 p.m. and will be met at the Norman Manley International Airport by Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall, the prime minister and members of the Cabinet.

King Juan Carlos will address Parliament this afternoon before signing bilateral agreements with Golding.

Tomorrow, the royals will have a busy schedule, with meetings in the Corporate Area and St James before leaving the island.

A DNA test will be performed to determine if a 13-year-old boy fathered a baby with his 15-year-old girlfriend, his spokesman said on Monday.

The test comes after a Sunday tabloid newspaper reported that other teenage boys have come forward claiming to be the father of the newborn baby girl.

Spokesman Max Clifford said the parents of Alfie, 13, said the tests would be done "as soon as possible" to determine paternity.

"He obviously believes he's the father," Clifford said. "I think that having read the News of the World yesterday, it would be prudent to have a DNA test."

The teenager's 15-year-old girlfriend, Chantelle, gave birth to the baby girl earlier this month in Eastbourne, 70 miles (110 kilometres) southeast of London. The couple made headlines in Britain when Alfie, who looks much younger than 13, posed on the front page of the tabloid Sun newspaper with the baby.

The local council where the teenagers live said it would offer them support and that they will continue to be monitored by social workers to determine what help they might need.

Former Death Row records boss Marion "Suge" Knight has been treated in hospital for facial injuries after a fight in a US hotel on Monday morning.

Police was called to the W hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona, by Security guards after two groups of guests exchanged "heated words in the VIP area".

According to the Officers at the scene Mr Knight was punched twice in the face.

The fight came to an end after the police had to use their taser stun guns. Two men were arrested and charged with aggravated assault. They are Leon Anderson and Robert Carnes Jr, who identified himself as a business manager for R&B star Akon.

Akon was not present during the fracas.

Knight sustained broken facial bones and was taken to hospital, the police report said.

Suge is best known for launching the solo careers of Dr. Dre Snoop Dogg on his label, Death Row Records.

He sold tens of millions of records before collapsing in debt and mismanagement in 2006.

After Knight filed for bankruptcy, the label was sold at auction for $24m (£12m).

Always a magnet for controversy, his career has been overshadowed by run-ins with the law in recent years.

Last May he was assaulted and knocked out at the Shag Nightclub in Los Angeles. Also in August he was arrested in Las Vegas on drug and assault charges after allegedly punching his girlfriend and pulling a knife on her during an argument outside a strip club.

He previously served time in jail for violating his probation on an earlier assault charge.

Even though the election date has not yet been announced, the atmosphere of pre-elections in Antigua has become increasingly violent. To date two constituency offices of the opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) candidates Asot Michael and Gail Christian were completely destroyed by fire. This happened just days after Organisation of American States denounced the reports of pre-election violence and destruction and pleaded for peace. Christian, a senator, is the ALP's challenger to the incumbent United Progressive Party's leader and Prime Minister, Spencer.

Caribbean Community Secretary General Edwin Carrington said that violence undermines a people's right to a free and fair election. He confirmed that Caricom has been invited to observe the election and is waiting for a response. When asked about the election date he said that the Secretariat would be in a better position to make a statement after assessing the pre-election situation in the island but a new general election is constitutionally due by March.

Spencer's United Progressive Party has also complained of having stones and bottles hurled at them during one of its whistle-stop meetings.

It is with growing concern that we observe the epidemic of teenage girls having sexual relations with bus drivers and conductors, not to mention their loose behavior on the buses.
One cannot recall such reports during the era of the JOS transportation system - but when the mini busses, namely the 'Quarter million' and Encava busses came on stream, the girls just 'bruk out'.
This could be blamed on the perversion of drivers and conductors of these buses. During the 80's to present day the buses are designed to impress and attract the young girls. They are colorfully designed with catchy names imprinted across the top of the windshield and have creative graphics done on the bodies. They are each accessorised with up to date audio and video systems which would belt out the latest songs at ear splitting decibels, much to the delight of all school goers.
Girls especially were impressed with the added attention of bus conductors who would 'talk them up', usually not charging them any fare.
It was especially ego boosting to be the one selected for the added attention, especially when one would normally hear the 'ductors shouting, at each bus stop, "No schoolers!" but then be the one schooler to be smiled at and allowed entrance on said same bus. The poor girl could not help but be flattered.
Now it has escalated. Girls are not as shy and easily impressed as they were two decades ago. Conductors no longer have to 'talk up a girl' as she would do the 'talking up' herself. Girls today would be the 'selector' on a bus as she will request each song that she wants to hear. Their uniforms are shorter and the pockets cut out for easy access for nimble fingers and other body parts as they 'doubled up', meaning girls in a boys lap when the bus is filled.
Some of these school girls today are totally immoral and will do absolutely anything to gain the attention of the desired male. Eyebrows are sculptured, face bleached, or powdered, eyes lined and lips perfectly glossed, while in uniform!
Just a few weeks ago while at a stop light I observed some female students in the back of a Hiace minivan which was vibrating with music. They were bouncing about in their seat arms and head swinging as they did the 'dutty wine', when the music 'sweet' them they clapped their hand and cursed badwords to show their excitement. When one girl caught me staring at them with obvious disapproval she just slammed the window shut and continued gyrating.

The bus drivers and conductors who are usually young men themselves enjoy the attention of these brazen school girls and even encourage it. They all know each other by name and will chat amiably during the journey, which may take them to the bus terminus and back.
A co-worker told me of one incident which occurred while she was journeying on a minivan to work where a young lady called for her stop but the driver drove by and the conductor laughed and told her "Yuh nah come off yet, de man waan se yuh", at which point my co- worker became very vocal and insisted that they stop and allow the girl off the bus, which they reluctantly did.
These girls are the product of a system gone bad - the transportation system. There is no regulation, no respect, no authority figure and absolutely no discretion. Anything goes on the buses, any filthy song is played, just this week it was reported that students were given alcohol on a bus while on the way to school. What are they thinking?
Our young girls are at risk and until the government does something about the mini buses our next generation is endangered.

"Child bound and gagged left in cemetary while mother goes to Sting...". How often have we heard of these horrible incidents and shook our heads in dismay? We look at our own children and wonder "What could these parents be thinking?" What level of frustration could these parents be experiencing for them to resort to this type of violence against their own child?
A line from Michael Jackson's song, "Gone Too Soon" says children were born to "inspire and delight" not to be the brunt for a parent's frustrations. A child is not the no good baby father. A child is not the reason your pay cheque is so small. A child is not the reason you can't get someone to stay with him while you go out. A child is not the reason for any of the unhappiness that you may be facing in life. DO not take it out on your child!

Many of us are unaware that there are different forms of child abuse that does not involve actual physical abuse. The parent who places their own responsibilities on a child - go sell this, wash the clothes, cook the dinner, go collect the money from your father, stay wid dem till mi come back is abusing that child. Children are not mentally prepared for this type of responsibility and will suffer for it. Children are meant to laugh and play and be innocent of life's hardships until life deems them ready. When parents do this they rob the child of the natural process of growing up. Children skip childhood and move from toddler to adulthood in one bound. No wonder we have so many problems with teenagers today.
Parents please remember that children are a precious gift and that we should treat them as such. Admittedly these little angels will test your patience and push you to the limit of endurance, but you are always the adult and as such have a responsibility to display adult behavior. Think twice before lashing out on a child, never punish your child in anger. Walk away, think about the situation, then when you have come to a workable solution call the child then deal with the issue. Children will respect you for it. A child who respects his parents will respect society.

Famed promoter Marc A. Stewart of Atlanta, GA was found dead on Saturday night in Gwinnett County. Police are not saying anything at this time. The body will be released to the family on Monday after autopsy. Yardflex.com learnt that Marc has been missing since Wednesday February 11, 2009.

Marc served as the President and CEO of Island Coast Entertainment for ten years and was known throughout the Atlanta business and social communities as a hardworking, trustworthy and dedicated event planning, marketing and promotions professional. Marc has promoted successful shows with Beres Hammond, Buju Banton and many other top Reggae artists.

Tychicus says that he is glad to see that the Broadcasting Commission has followed his lead and has banned all songs using the word 'daggering'.

Tychicus who was an enthusiastic crusader proclaiming the evils of daggering is very happy with the move.
He says that now that daggering is gone, carnival too must go. He says that if the downtown romping shop is gone then the uptown romping shop must go also. He says that carnival songs which suggest daggering but use different words should also be banned.

Tychicus says that he wants to introduce Jamaicans to good clean dances which involves face-to-face dance move not backways, as God is always moving forward not backwards.

He has three dance moves that he wants to promote:
"Customer Care" where the partners face each other and take care of their partners.
"Front liner" which is another face-to-face dance, the opposite of "back it up".
"Ten speed blender" this is where the dancer rotates his body like a blender.

He claims to have learnt how to dance clean dances from the Almighty and not from any dance school. He hopes that the older members of the population who are resistant to change will appreciate and accept his dance moves.

Nas told Billboard last week he was cooking up a few surprises, and now we know one of them: an as-yet-untitled collaboration with reggae star Damian Marley.

The pair has been recording quietly in Los Angeles for the last several weeks. Nas' manager, Anthony Saleh, tells Billboard the project will most likely be released in the spring. It's not clear which label will release it; Nas is signed to Def Jam, while Marley Records for Universal.

"We've been recording in a studio, where people like Mick Jagger are recording. No one knew who we were," Saleh says. "We're going to Miami this week to finish it up and we're aiming to tour for the album this summer."

In addition to its regular incarnation, the album may also be released in a special edition exclusively through Best Buy or Target. A portion of the proceeds will go toward building a school in Africa, though details are still being solidified.

As previously reported, Nas guests on a song on Dr. Dre's long-in-the-works "Detox" album, due sometime this year. He was nominated for two Grammys at Sunday's 51st annual awards but lost in both the best rap solo performance and best rap album categories.

Minister of Local Government Robert Montague has ordered a probe into the erection of Claro's cellular towers as he is concerned with the number of complaints that have been made by the parish councils. Several have complained that the telecommunications company has been erecting towers without regard for the rules governing building permits.

Chairpersons of the Manchester, St. Catherine and St. Mary Parish Councils have warned that they will go to court if Claro does not cease and desist its actions.

Sources revealed that applications were submitted in St. Thomas for 20 cell towers with only 12 being approved by the National Environment & Planning Agency (NEPA) but 22 are under construction or have been built.

In St James, 31 applications were submitted for cell towers, 20 were approved by NEPA while 8 were approved by the council but 32 towers are under construction.

In the corporate area Claro has completed work on 38 cell towers while only 23 were approved by NEPA. Claro has built a total of 397 of the almost 600 cellular towers that it has projected to erect, but there is no evidence to suggest that all have been approved.
However, Kingston mayor, Desmond McKenzie says that Claro has been complying with the rules. He admits that while there have been issues with Claro, these issues apply to all the cellular providers, not only Claro.

A second meeting between cellular providers and the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation is scheduled for next Tuesday to discuss the issue of constructing cell towers before approval is granted, which mayor McKenzie said is not the process.

Continental Flight 3407 from Newark, N.J. crashed in Buffalo at about 10:20pm Thursday night killing 50 people.
The commercial commuter flight which was coming in for landing crashed into a house in suburban Buffalo, about five miles from Buffalo Niagara International Airport killing all 49 persons on board and one in the house. Two others in the house escaped injuries.
Witnesses claim to have heard the familiar sounds of the place flying overhead but it was unusually loud and making sputtering and odd noises.
No mayday call was reported from the pilot who was unaware of any problems with the aircraft. Communications with air traffic control was normal but when the controller tried to contact the plane with landing instructions they received no response. Repeated attempts were to no avail. Eventually ground control in Clarence was contacted. After the crash, two pilots were heard on air traffic control messages saying that they were picking up ice on their wings.
The plane which was carrying 5,000 lbs of fuel exploded on impact. One house was destroyed and twelve evacuated.

According to Africa, Linen has been accepting bookings overseas behind his back and fail to give him his 20 per cent as per their agreement.

Uplifting Music International Limited attorney has confirmed that Terry Linen has signed a three (3) year Artiste Management and Record Production Agreement with Uplifting Music International Limited which ends on November 21, 2010. It is a three (3) album agreement of which only one (1) album has been completed.

Uplifting Music International Limited is seeking several court orders against Terry Linen, one of which is to compel Terry Linen to fulfill his obligations under the contract.

ID required to enter Bacchanal Jamaica - Effective Today

According to reports, the new '18 and over' entry policy for Jamaica Bacchanal will see patrons showing IDs before entering the venue.

Bacchanal Jamaica has announced that with immediate effect, patrons will be required to present valid identification at the entrance to Mas Camp when asked by officials in order to verify that all patrons entering the Mas Camp are 18 years old and over.

This comes in light of the large turnout of teenagers on the opening night of Bacchanal's Mas Camp Fridaze.

A Jamaican living in the States was down on his luck. Out of work and broke, he started going around to various companies in the city begging for a job, any job. Finally he got to the zoo. The zookeeper looked stressed out.

"The monkey escaped last night", the zoo-keeper said, "if you are willing to put on a monkey suit and stand in the monkey's cage for a couple days, I'll pay you"

The Jamaican immediately accepted. The pay was OK and the work wasn't hard. He swung from the tree, and the
kids fed him fruits and nuts. He actually started enjoying himself. He even started adding a few acrobatic moves that he had seen on TV. Late in the afternoon he swung a bit too vigorously, lost his grip and flew clean out
of the monkey cage and landed in the lion cage next door.

Former Zip jockey, Nicole 'Nikki Z' Duhaney pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court on Tuesday.
Nikki Z has been appearing in court on and off since last year after a ganja spliff was found in her car. She had initially pleaded not guilty and was granted a new court date for March, she later told the judge that she would not be available for that date as she had accepted a job offer of a radio show in the states and would be relocated. After much deliberation she changed her plea to guilty and was fined $100.00 or ten days in prison.

China's VP, Xi Jinping arrives in Jamaica

VICE-PRESIDENT of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping landed at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston last night, commencing a four-day official visit to the island.

During his visit Jinping is expected to sign agreements with the government covering agriculture, finance, education and infrastructural development. He will also participate in a hectic schedule of social activities, including courtesy calls on the Governor General, Sir Kenneth Hall, and Leader of the Opposition, Portia Simpson Miller, and visit the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona.

This morning, he will meet with the staff of the Chinese Embassy and members of the Chinese community in Kingston. This afternoon, he will attend a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), and tonight he will be guest of Prime Minister Golding and his cabinet at a dinner at Jamaica House.

Tomorrow, the Vice-President will visit Montego Bay, where he will be presented with the Key to the City, and take part in the official groundbreaking ceremony for the convention centre at Rose Hall.

Marlon King on assault charges

Jamaican international striker Marlon King has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub, police said today.

King is alleged to have assaulted and punched a 20-year old woman in London's Soho Revue Bar in December and will appear before magistrates later this month.

He was released on bail to appear at City of Westminster magistrates court on February 25 on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and sexual assault by touching, according to the Metropolitan police.

A woman received hospital treatment for a broken nose and split lip following the incident on December 7 and King was arrested three days later. 28-year-old King is on loan to Middlesbrough from fellow Premier League club Wigan. He is yet to score for his new club in three appearances.

The juveniles at the Fort Augusta Adult Correctional Centre in St. Catherine which houses about 60 female juveniles serving sentences for a myriad of crimes including murder and illegal possession of firearm, became unruly and attacked many of the warders who in defence hurt many of the juveniles during the riot.

The juveniles who were intent on creating chaos and taking over the prison were armed with 'jammers', feces, urine and used sanitary napkins.

Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Corrections, Maurice Jones, said that last week an officer's nose was fractured when a gang of juveniles attacked her, knocked her to the ground and kicked her several times in the face. Other correctional officers was stabbed in the arm and doused with urine.

Another female warder complained that she was stoned and hit on the leg when she was seen limping out of the institution.

The warders blame the strict rules governing the punishment of juveniles inside the prison. The prisoners are aware of the restrictions of the warders in relation to discipline and exploit their limitations.

"They say we will lose our jobs if we beat or punish them too harshly, they [the prisoners] know this and take advantage of the situation."
This particular group of girls have been giving problems for some time as they had been transferred from the Armadale Juvenile Correctrional Centre in St. Ann, after they had escaped to attend a dance in the community, to the New Horizon Remand Centre in Kingston before being sent to Fort Augusta.

One warder described them as being severely unruly and ill-mannered and they no longer wanted to deal with them anymore.

CARICOM Heads of Government have taken the decision that all member states should issue CARICOM passports to all its nationals in a bid to strengthen the unifying commitment of the CARICOM as a single market as well as facilitating the freedom and smooth processing of CARICOM nationals across the region and general borders.

Since the Government implemented the CARICOM passport regime last month, the Jamaican Consulate General in Miami has gone to great lengths to provide accurate and efficient information to Jamaican nationals. Vice-Consul with responsibility for Immigration services, Stacy Johnson has gone live on the South Florida radio station, WEXY 1620-AM, in an effort to address the concerns of Jamaican nationals living in Broward and Palm Beach.

All the new passports bear the CARICOM logo and the words "Carribean Community" on the cover, The logo is also on the inside pages and perforated across the top of the pages.
The independent nations, i.e. Jamaica has the respective coat of arms and the country's name printed at the bottom of the cover.

The passport is presented in three colours - dark blue for all nationals, green for officials on government business and burgundy red for diplomatic officials. All passports are valid for 10 years at which time they can be re-newed.

Portia Lucretia Simpson-Miller ON, MP was born on December 12, 1945 in Wood Hall, St. Catherine. She has the distinction of being Jamaica's first female Prime Minister from March 30, 2006 - September 11, 2007. She is presently the President and Leader of the Opposition. She is also a member of the 'Council of Women World Leaders' which is an International network of former and current women presidents and prime ministers whose mission is to mobilize women leaders in a collective effort to take action on issues critical to women and equitable development.
Mrs Simpson-Miller became the third woman to become Prime Minister in the English speaking Caribbean, when she succeeded ongoing Prime Minister P.J. Patterson. She now holds the position as President of the opposition People's National Party.
Prior to being Prime Minister she was the Minister of local Government and Sport since 2002. She has also served as Minister of Labour, Welfare and Sports; Minister of Labour, Social Security and Sports; Minister of Tourism and Sports and Defence Minister.
On September 2007 her party narrowly lost the 2007 general election to the rival Jamaica Labour Party 32 to 28 seats (after recounts). Simpson-Miller initially refused to concede defeat citing unfair voting regulations, but finally conceded when the Organization of American States issued a statement declaring the election free and fair. She was succeeded as Prime Minister by JLP leader Bruce Golding.
In July 2008 she was challenged for the Presidency of the PNP by her rival Dr. Peter Phillips. The election was held among the party's delegates on September 20, 2008. She defeated Phillips by an even wider margin than that of the previous election.
Simpson-Miller holds a Bachelor of Arts in public administration from the Union Institute, who also gave her an Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters.

The superstar rapper and producer Johnathan Smith aka Lil Jon & "King of Crunk" who started out his musical career as a dancehall DJ with the Four Season's Sound System of the 1990's in Atlanta, is now creating a soca beat for this year's Carnival festival in Trinidad. Though he will not be performing, he will produce a beat for a collaboration between himself, Latin hip hop star Pitbull and soca artist Machel Montano called "Floor on Fire".
The track has evolved into a full fledged riddim including many Caribbean voices such as Kevin Lyttle and Mr. Vegas and will debut at this year's Carnival in Trinidad.
Jon, has in the past displayed a flair for island beats by appearing alongside Pitbull and Machel Montano at soca's Crop Over festival in Barbados.

Merlene Joyce Ottey was born on May 10, 1960 in Cold Spring, Hanover, Jamaica to Hubert and Joan Ottey. She was introduced to track & field by her mother.
Ottey attended Gurnrys Mount and Pondside Schools, Ruseas and Vere Technical high schools, where she competed in barefooted races.
Ottey was inspired by listening to track & field broadcasts of the 1976 Summer Olympics. Her athletic career took off while attending University of Nebraska in the USA in 1979.
Over time Ottey won many awards: In 1982 she won the gold medal in the 200m and silver in the 100m at the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
In the 1990 Commonwealth Games she won gold in both events. She was named Ambassador of Jamaica for the Year 15 times between 1979 - 1997.
In total, Ottey has won right Olympic medals, but never an Olympic gold. She has to her credit three silver and five bronze medals which earned her the nickname "The Bronze Queen". She also has won 14 World Championship medals between 1983 - 1997- more than any other althete, male or female.
On 1999 a banned substance was descovered in her urine and she was banned from competing in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. She also pulled out of the World Championships as she strove to clear her name, which she eventually did by the summer of that year in time to be selected to compete in the Olympic games.
She ran fourth in the controversial race and vowed that even though she could still run at 40 she would not run for Jamaica anymore as she felt as they were trying to push her out of the sport.

Soca Music has also been included in the Broadcasting Commission's ban on airing sexually explicit lyrics.
The debate on the agency's ban on lewd dancehall music grew as they were accused of being biased. The Chairman Dr. Hopeton Dunn has stated that recommendations have been made to the Government to make amendments to the Television and Sound Broadcasting Regulations in a bid to clean up the music playing on the airwaves. These include the transmission of songs that condone or encourage hostility or violence; glamorizing the use of illegal drugs or alcohol.
The agency is presently trying to amend the existing Broadcasting and Radio Regulation Act of 1946 and will propose a model act that will deal with regulating the airwaves.
Last Friday, the commission announced the banning of the transmission of any song or music video which promotes the sexual act of 'daggering' or the use of the bleeping technique to mask explicit lyrics.
The ban was in response to a deluge of 'daggering songs' on the airwaves.
By this afternoon, Dr. Dunn said that the commission would be keeping an eye on the carnival festivities.

An all star lineup of performers is set to hit the stage once again for the fifth annual staging of the Best of the Best International Music Festival, in Miami Florida beginning on May 24.
The festival will highlight performers of different genres such as Soca, Pop, Carribean, Reggae and Hip Hop music.
Artistes confirmed to perform include T-Pain, DJ Khaled, Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Movado, Cocoa Tea, Serani, Wayne Wonder, Elephant man, Matterhorn, Capleton, Jabba and Marcia Griffiths.

As the sun rose at about 5am Sunday morning at a dance in Winthorn, Westmoreland, patrons grew angry as the much anticipated deejay scheduled to perform did not show up began hurling bottles and stones at the stage.
As the anger escalated, persons affiliated with the staging of the dance joined in the melee and many artists and promotors were said to have been beaten.
One witness recounted that he saw bloodied faces and broken limbs.
Deejay Einstein, who had performed at the dance, admitted to hearing rumours that the beatings had been ordered.
The Whithorn police say that while they have heard of the incident no details were forthcoming and they have not received a formal report.
The "no-show" deejay is yet to make a statement.

Government analyst Dr. Judith Mowatt testified yesterday that semen was present around the anal region of 64 year old Ambassador Peter King's body. The doctor said that the fresh semen was discoverd on the body at the crime scene on March 20, 2006. The body had multiple stab and chop wounds. Three witnesses testified that 26 year old Sheldon Pusey was seen with King at his home on the afternoon of March 19, 2006.
Dr. Mowatt said that she collected samples of hair and semen from King's body as well as blood and semen found on a towel on the bed.
Government analyst Sheron Brydson said that she received samples from the crime scene and would conduct tests for DNA. She said DNA samples could be used to exclude persons from the crime scene. She came to the conclusion that the DNA on the towel could match the profiles of King and Pusey.

It is alarming the number of children who know the words to Spice and Kartel's "Rampin' Shop" hit song. The song which included expletives and sexually explicit lines was song many times by children ranging from four to ten years old.
Though admitting that they did not understand what the song was about, thay were aware that it was 'bad' and refused to sing it when an adult was around, or skipped the expletives.
Many of the children, when asked, admitted to hearing the song on the radio or other adults singing it.
Psychiatrist Dr. Leachim Semaj said that while entertainers were free to record whatever they wanted, it was up to the various agents of socialisation to shield children from harmful material.
He blames the lack of regulaton, as dances are held too close to residential communities and residets are forced to hear the vulgar lyrics.
He also blames the public transportation system where passengers are subjected to the nastiness being played without any concern for their sensibilities.
He, however, notes that it is the duty of parents to protect their children and monitor the activities their children engage in.
The Broadcasting Commission had no comment.

The American Boy singer's collaboration with the indie pop duo is the final live performance to be confirmed for the prestigious music ceremony.

According to Ged Doherty, chairman of the BRITs Committee, "Our audience research tells us that BRITs viewers love collaborations and this pairing of Estelle and The Ting Tings, two of Britain's hottest and most exciting acts, will not disappoint."

Estelle is in the running for two prizes - British Female Solo Artiste and British Single for American Boy, her duet with Kanye West.

The Ting Tings - comprising of Jules De Martino and Katie White - also received two nominations, for British Breakthrough Act and British Album for We Started Nothing.

Estelle and The Ting Tings is not the only tantalizing collaboration planned for the ceremony, which will take place at London's Earls Court on February 18.

The Pet Shop Boys, who are being honored with an Outstanding Achievement accolade, are reportedly planning to close the event by performing alongside The Killers.

Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Duffy, U2 and Take That are also scheduled to take the stage.

This year's BRITs will be presented by 'Gavin and Stacey', TV stars James Cordon and Mathew Horne and 2 Hearts singer Kylie Minogue.

Chris Brown turned himself in moments before the 2009 Grammy's were set to commence. The Los Angeles police department announced that Chris Brown, a double nominee and scheduled performer, was being investigated for allegedly assaulting an unidentified woman the night before. Brown turned himself in to authorities and was briefly held before posting $50,000 bail Sunday night, jail records showed.

Chris Brown and girlfriend Rihanna also nominated, were both slated to perform in different slots of the show, but separately dropped out at the last minute. The victim of Brown's alleged assault wasn't identified, and it wasn't immediately clear whether Rihanna's absence was related to Brown's.

Police booked the 19-year-old R&B singer and dancer on suspicion of making a criminal threat, a felony. Police did not explain how their initial report of an injury assault related to the charge, but it will ultimately be up to the district attorney's office to decide what charges, if any, should be brought against Brown.

The incident occurred after the couple left Clive Davis's star-studded pre-Grammys gala at LA's Beverly Hilton on Saturday night.

Head of Olint Corporation, David Smith was yesterday arrested in the Turks and Caicos Islands and charged with counts of fraud, theft, false acounting and uttering false documents. He was granted US$1 million dollar bail with surety. He had to surrender his travel documents.
The arrest comes after months of investigations into the dealings, operations and financial activities of the investment scheme.
TCI police say that the investigation could possibly extend to Jamaica.
Last year Olint offices were raided by police and computers and files seized.
In 2006 the Jamaican Financial Services Commission served Olint with a cease and desist order which was later overturned by a stay of execution until March 26 last year when the court would hear the appeals of Olint and LewFam. They were ordered not to increase their mebership until the appeal was heard.
A court date has not yet been set for Mr. Smith.

The show got off to a good start, seeing entertainers and other industry personnel coming out in high numbers. However, it was a bit disorganized. They had a problem with playing CD tracks for the artistes to perform, which resulted in Koshens performing acapella.

YardFlex have to big up quite a few artistes that were exceptional dressed for the occasion. They are Queen Ifrica, 'Bad Gyal' Ce'cile, 'Money Goddess' Macka Diamond, 'The Doctor' Beenie Man, 'Flossing King' Flippa Mafia, Spice, Pamputae and Etana.

Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley OM. born February 6, 1945 was a Jamaican musician, singer-songwriter and Rastafarian. He was the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for the ska, rocksteady and reggae bands: The Wailers. He died on May 11, 1981. Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited for helping spread Jamaican music to the worldwide audience.

God is blessing me with an outpouring of divine love.
By the grace of God, I am a blessing and I am blessed. I realize this to a greater degree when, for some unknown reason, I feel an urgency to call a loved one at the moment this person needs comforting. Or I may have seemingly lost a purse or a wallet only to have it returned to me by a considerate, caring person.

Divine grace is expressing through me and for me in known and unknown ways. My days are filled with blessings. Some I may take for granted, and some may come to me so quietly that I am not alert to them.
I never miss out on anything in life when I am aware that God is blessing me with an outpouring of divine love.

This year's awards show on May 3, in New York, marks the 28th anniversary of the airing of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMAs). The IRAWMAs is the longest running and first award show to honour Dancehall and Reggae music equally alongside its World Music counterparts.

Recipients and nominees of this prestigious award are not only recognized as being the best in the industry but as being the best in the world.

Fourth grader, nine year old Lim Ding Wen of Singapore writes applications for Apple's popular iPhone. The latest, a painting program called Doodle Kids has been down loaded 4,000 times from Apple's iTunes store in two weeks.

Lim said that he wrote the program for his sisters who are 3 and 5 years old. This program allows users to draw pictures with their fingers by touching the iPhone's touch screen then clear the screen by simply shaking the phone.

Lim who is fluent in six programming languages started using the computer at the age of 2. Since then he has completed 20 programming projects. His father, Lim Thye Chean, chief technology officer also writes iPhone applications.

Lim Ding Wen is presently in the process of writing another iPhone application which is a science fiction game called "Invader Wars".

Yesterday, WI Captain Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan both hit half centuries to place the West Indies into a position of strength at the end of day 2 in the opening Digicel test match against England at Sabina Park on Thursday, February 5.

Gayle and Sarwan added 142 unbroken after England made early in roads with Devon Smith's for six. Gayle slammed three sixes and three fours off 120 balls while Sarwan got seven four off 181 delioveries.

Politician robbed while asleep

While a well-known member of parliament slept it is theorized that a very stealthy thief entered the politicians up-scale residence sometime around 4am-7am by climbing a balcony. The perpetrator made off with the politician's licence firearm, two cellular phones along with their chargers. The thief also made off with a quantity of the politician's jewelery.

Arthur Wint was born in Plowden, Manchester, Jamaica on May 3, 1920. He was the Jamaican Boy Athlete of the Year in 1937, he won a gold medal in the 800m at the Central American Games in Panama.

He joined the Royal Air Force and while undergoing training in Canada he set the 400m record. After taking part in active duty as a pilot in WWii he left the Air Force in 1947 to attend medical school at St. Bartholomews Hospital.

In 1948 he won Jamaica's fist gold medal for the 400m (46.2) in London beating team mate Herb McKenley. He also won the silver medal in the 800m.

Wint was also part of the historic relay team, in Helsinki's 1952 games, where they set the world record and captured the gold medal in the 4 X 400m relay. He also once again won siver in the 800m.

Arthur Wint ran his final race in 1953 at Wembley Stadium, completed his internship, graduated as a doctor and was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth the following year.

Wint returned to Jamaica in 1955 and settled in Hanover as the only doctor in the parish. He was awarded the Jamaica honour of the Order of Distinction. He also served as Jamaica's High Commissioner to Britain from 1974-1978. He was inducted in the Black Athlete's Hall of Fame in the USA in 1977, The Jamaican Sports Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Central American and Caribbean Athletic Confederation Hall of Fame in 2003.

Arthur Wint died in Linstead on October 19, 1992 at the age of 72.

Paul Hudson aka Chrisinti is back. The singer who started performing professionally in 1997 is back with a new single "Sincerely".
Not a novice to the music fraternity as he has performed in places such as USA, the Caribbean, Canada, Africa and Europe. He is best known for his songs; "Oh Shiela", "My Sunshine has come", Save a little for a rainy day","Say Jah", "Joy" and "Sincerely".
He has the distinction of working with some of the top producers in the music business such as: Kings of Kings, Coolie Budz Records, Brickwall, Morgan Heritage, DASECA, Bobby Digital, Harmony House, King Jammys, Link Movement and 876 Radio as well as collaborating with the likes of Jah Mason for the song "Up Up Up", Nadine Sutherland for "Can't tek it" and Ikya for "Rock Baby".
Chrisinti credits his experiences of growing up in the community of Drewsland as his inspiration as well as having a Black Scorpio studio within the community.

30 year old Patrick Johnson was charged for possession of, dealing in and trafficking ganja in the Corporate Area Magistrates Court on Monday after collecting 150lbs of marijuana.
On January 26, he was stopped by police in the Eleven Miles area of Bull Bay, St. Thomas and his car was searched and a bag of weed was discovered in the trunk.
Johnson explained to Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that he went to the country to pick up the weed for a friend of his father's who was traveling to the Bahamas. The car was a rental borrowed from a friend.
He was sentenced to $15,000 or six months for possession, admonished and discharged for dealing in and fined $200,000 or six months for trafficking ganja. He was also sentenced for 12 months. If his fees are not paid his sentences will run consecutively.

23 year old constable Wayne Catton has been charged for simple larceny, adding him to the more than 30 police personel from St. James facing the courts for several offences since 2008.
Catton, it is alleged, stole US$600.00 that was left for an inmate at the Freeport police station lock up last year. He was arrested on Monday and faced the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and his attorney argues that the three year veteran received only clothing not money. Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry, however, ordered that he be remanded until February 19 when the case will be tried. She cited inconsistencies in his story as the reason for his being denied bail.
The prosecution alleges that on January 24, 2008 the complainant went to visit the inmate and was told that it was not his day for visits so she left the money and articles of clothing with the accused and was assured that the inmate would receive them.
Later that day the inmate called to say that he had not received any of the items.
The complainant returned three days later and complained to the inspector which led to an investigation being launched.
The constable admitted that he gave the items to the inmate then later changed his statement and said that he left them at a window and they were stolen. He insists that the items were only clothing not money.

A prosecution witness said that when he gave statements to the police shortly after 64 year old Ambassador Peter King was found murdered in his home he did not mention his sexuality because he did not know how King's family would react to finding out that King was a homosexual. This was in response to Defence lawyers questions about why the witness had not told the police about seeing both King and the accused, 26 year old Sheldon Pusey, in their underpants in King's kitchen in his home on Waterloo Road between March 19-20, 2006. Pusey is accused of chopping and stabbing King to death in his home.
The witness said that even though King was not a role model, as he had certain unlikeable flaws, he was his best friend. The witness also admitted to being a homosexual also.
Detective Sergeant Keith Steele testified that on March 27 Pusey was identified by three witnesses in an identification parade and that Pusey claimed that he cut King's throat because he tried to rape him.

Star of the Notorious biopic, Jamal 'Gravy' Woolard, flew to Kingston with Movado to collaborate on several projects.
Movado returned from a hectic promotional trip to New York where he created history by pulling a crowd of 4,000 fans in the Armory in Rochester, New York during freezing sub-zero temperatures and snow storms.
Movado also made three live appearances between Thursday and Saturday on the Hip Hop legend Funkmaster Flex's radio show on Hot 97 in New York. On Sunday he hosted an event in Manhattan at Club Prime.
With the release of his new album, "Mr. Brooks - A Better Tomorrow" on March 3 and "I'm So Special" Movado is poised to hit mainstream America.

The alleged defaming of a community mural for a deceased area don by police officers has left the residents of Crescent Road in the Two Mile area of St. Andrew fuming mad.
The residents claim that the police officers not only destroyed a bar in the community but also shot up the painting which was done in memory of the deceased head of the Rat Bat gang; Dave "Machine Man" Sterling, who was shot to death for pulling a firearm on an officer in October of last year.
"Di boss dead from last year and all now de police a tek set" an irate resident said.
One resident claimed that the incident took place before 6pm on Monday as she heard gun shots and went to investigate but was chased away by police officers. She later went back and saw the marred painting with gun shots to the face.
Many persons were also held by the police but soon released. The police did not release the radio and cans of Red Bull which they had also confiscated.
The St. Andrew police division said that while no official reports have been made they are aware of the rumours.
The Mobile Reserve who carried out the operation had no comment.

As I exercise my physical muscles, I strengthen them. As I use my mental skills, I increase them. The same is true concerning my faith. The more I use it, the more it is strengthened, the more it increases.

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She escaped a troubled childhood living with her mother where she was repeatedly sexually abused by male family members and friends, to live with her father in Nashville.
She attended Tennessee State University in 1971 and began working in radio and television.
In 1976 Oprah moved to Baltimore where she hosted the TV talk show, "People are Talking", the show was a hit and Oprah stayed with it for eight years. Her success led her to Stephen Speilberg's 1985 film "The Color Purple" for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
She launched the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986. The show was such a success that she gained ownership of it from ABC and placed it under the control of her production company Harpo Productions and made more money from syndications. Her show free of tabloid topics earned her the respect and popularity of her viewers.
Harpo has undertaken many projects, one being the production of the 1989 miniseries "The Women of Brewsters Palce" which Oprah also starred in.
Oprah well known for her constant struggle with her weight is also known for the launching of "Oprah's Book Club" as part of her talk show. This is where novels are introduced, read and discussed on air.
Oprah has the distinction of being one of the most powerful and wealthy people in show business. According to Forbes Magazine, Oprah is the richest African American of the 20th century and the world's only black billionaire 3 years running.

She has also launched a monthly magazine called "O: The Oprah Winfrey Magazine" in 2000.
In 2005 Business Week named her the greatest Black philanthropist in American history. She has also raised millions of dollars for her various charities through her Oprah's Angel Network.
Oprah is a dedicated activist for children's rights and in 1994 got President Clinton to sign a bill creating an active database of convicted child abusers.
In 2002 she was named the first recipient of the Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences' Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
In 2007 she campaigned for democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama attracting the largest crowds of the primary season.
She has also financed a school for underprivileged girls in South Africa called The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy.
She is engaged to Stedman Graham and the couple live in Chicago.

Malcolm Little (Malcolm X) was born in Omaha, nebraska, USA on May 19, 1925.
As a teenager he was involved in pimping and drugs. In 1946 he was arrested, charged and sentenced to ten years in prison for burglary. While in prison he discovered the anti-white Black Muslims.
In 1952 Malcolm joined the Muslims and became a recruiter, changed his name and began writing. He became well known for his 1959 television documentary. Both his writings and his documentary portrayed him as a threat to white people.
After breaking from the Muslims in 1964 he founded the Muslim Mosque in an effort to internationalize the Afro-American struggle. He travelled to Muslim lands and was impressed with their lack of racial bias. He became convinced that whites were not all born inherently racist. He once again re-invented himself and called himself El-Haff Malik El Shabazz and formed the Organisation of African American Unity in hopes of co-operating with progressive white groups.
Malcolm influenced the movements of black power and neo-colonialism by transforming the consciousness of generations of African-Americans.
He was assassinated in New York City in 1965, and it was believed that members of the Nation of Islam were involved.

Louis Armstrong born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana USA was one of the leading trumpeters and most influential jazz artistes of his time.
Armstrong grew up poor and did odd jobs while listening to jazz music and singing in a boys' quartet. While spending time in Waifs Home for coloured juvenile delinquents (1913) he learned to play cornet in the home's band. Music quickly became his passion and in his teens he quickly learned more about music by listening to jazz musicians such as King Oliver. He became skilled and was soon playing in jazz bands and even replaced Oliver in the Kid Ory Band (1918), and played in Mississippi riverboat dance bands during the early 20's.
Oliver invited Armstrong to play second cornet in his Creole Jazz Band which included outstanding musicians such as Johnny and Baby Dodds and pianist Lil Hardin who he later married in 1924.
Armstrong recorded his first soloist pieces "Chimes Blues" and "Tears" which he produced with his wife.
Lil encouraged Armstrong to quit Oliver's band and he played in Fletcher Henderson's band in New York for a year before returning to Chicago to play in large orchestras. There he created his most important works - The Armstrong Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings of 1925 - 1928 which made him the first jazz soloist. He recorded solo pieces such as "Hotter than That", "Struttin' with some Barbecue" among others. By this time Armstrong was playing trumpet and his style was far superior to that of his competitors.

By 1929 Armstrong was a famous musician, and performed in "Hot Chocolates". He toured America and Europe as a trumpet soloist. As his trumpet range expanded, he began to sing lyrics on most of his recordings using the the scat singing style, which he had invented.
Louis and Lil separated in 1931.
Joe Glaser, Armstrong's manager guided his film career 'Pennies from Heaven" (1936) and radio and television appearances where he was always featured as a good- humored entertainer.
He died on July 6, 1971.

The battle between LIME and Digicel has intensified as the two telecommunication companies are now headed for the Supreme Court.
Digicel has accused LIME of ignoring an injunction placed on them from using confidential Digicel information which they had received, unethically and illegally,through the newest telecommunications company in the island, Claro. Digicel has since then applied to the Supreme Court of Jamaica for an order to be made against LIME for contempt of court.
Digicel alledges that on January 29, not 24 hours after the injunction was granted LIME once again used Digicel's confidential data in a affidavit. Digicel's management has stated that this is a flagrant exhibition of disrespect for the court system of Jamaica.
LIME responded to the allegations stating that Digicel's statements made in a January 29 news release was highly defamatory and constituted a deliberate attempt to damage LIME's reputation by suggesting that they were in collusion with Claro.

God-inspired choices are right for me and for all times.
Situations in life are often not as they first appear to be. I may consider a new circumstance or a change to be so drastic that I think I have no choice in the matter. Perhaps I have received a diagnosis about my health or incurred a downturn in my finances and feel, or have even been told, that I have no other choice but to accept a negative outcome.
When I turn from concern to inner guidance, I realize that I do have a choice in all that matters to me. I can choose how I respond to life's situations and to those around me--in what I do or do not do.
I understand that there is always an inspired way for me to follow. With the spirit of God as my guide, I make right choices.

Fitz Laing (Tom Laing), 51, married with eight children says that he started singing from birth and credits Bob Marley, Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Cook, Alton Ellis, John Holt and his mother as his inspiration.
He acknowledges that his love of Reggae music began while growing up in Trench Town, Kingston. His early days in the music business began in Brooklyn's Front Room recording studio.
He writes and produces his own songs and hopes to always provide good music that is accepted universally.
He has released songs such as: " It's not over", "Feel Da Vibes" and "Prayer" all on the m-16 rhythm.
He enjoys poetry and thinks that the music of yesteryear had more meaning and was more universal. He enjoys time in the park with his family.

The election of Barack Obama as the first African American president is making Black History Month come to life as the hearts and minds of people across the world have been opened to the true meaning of Black History Month and Blacks won't be seen as just the minority group but as a people with the ability to make a difference.
Historians say that with Obama's election eclipsing the 100th anniversary of the NAACP, there is even more reason now to celebrate the annual February observance.
It has been acknowledged, however, that even though Obama's presidency has broken the glass ceiling, one should not expect racial inequalities to simply disappear. Benjamin Todd Jealous, president and CEO of NAACP expects that even though Obama's having broken the colour barrier in the white house will make the NAACP's job easier he knows they will pressure Obama just as they have past presidents.
One professor of African American Studies at Washington University in St. Louis said that rather than seeing Obama's election as the end of racism it should be taught as an event that signals a new era in American race relations.

Gospel artiste Calvin Whilby aka Prodigal Son started singing in 1997 and has performed in the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and the USA. The self made song writer and producer enjoys doing his own thing but has on occasion worked with other producers such as: Danny Brownie and Rayon Smith.
He says that his preferred music is Gospel as he hopes to reach the world with his music.
Prodigal Son has also collaborated with International star Micah Stampley and local artistes Junior Tucker, Richie Stephens, Wayne Marshall and Jason Mighty.
The separated father of three does not believe in polygamy, "it must be costly" he jokes.
During his down time he enjoys playing FIFA on his playstation.
His next appearance is in Belize and Africa.

Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Johnson on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. Both she and her brother, Bailey, were sent to live with their grandmother in rural Stamps, Arkansas when their parents separated.
During a visit to her mother in St. Louis Maya Angelou was raped by her mother's boyfriend - she was eight. She later testified against the man, who was beaten to death by her uncles. Blaming herself for his death, Maya refused to speak for five years.
She attended high schools in both Arkansas and California and was the first African American female streetcar conductor in San Francisco, California.
She gave birth to a son at 16 and later married Tosh Angelos in 1950. They soon separated.
Maya Angelou studied drama and dance and went on to perform in theatre where she appeared in "Porgy and Bess" and "Cabaret for Freedom" which she co-wrote with Godfrey Cambridge.
During the 1960's she moved to Cairo, Egypt where she worked as the associate editor of the Arab Observer. She also contributed articles to The Ghanaian Times and was featured on the Ghanaian Broadcasting Corporation programming Accra, Ghana. During the 1960's she was also the Assistant administrator of the School of Music and Drama at the University of Ghana. She was also the feature editor of the African Review in Accra from 1964-1966. Upon her return to the USA civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. requested that she serve as northern coordinator for Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
She wrote her first autobiographical novel " I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" in 1970, which tells of her life up to the age of sixteen.

In 1974 she wrote her second autobiographical novel "Gather Together in My Name" which describes her life as a single parent raising her son.
"Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas" (1976) describes her career in theatre. "The Heart of a Woman" (1981) shows the mature Angelou now comfortable with her life and her successes. "All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes" (1986) describes her four years in Ghana. She also wrote a children's book calles "Kofi and His Magic" (1996)
She also wrote poetry. Her poetry collection includes "Just Give Me A Cool Drink Of Water 'Fore I Diiie" (1971) among others.
Maya Angelou has received many awards for her work including being nominated for National Book Award, 1920, A Pulitzer Prize nomination, 1972, Tony Awards nominations 1973 and 1977 and the North Carolina Award in Literature in 1987. She has also received appointments by President Gerald Ford (1913) and President Jimmy Carter (1924). She was also named Woman of the Year in 1976 and in 1983 she was named one of the top most influential women.
She has also taught at many colleges and universities.
Angelou has also worked in the film and movie industry where she acts, writes, produces and directs. Some of her work include "Sister, Sister", "Georgia Georgia" and "All Day Long".
In 2002 she wrote her sixth autobiographical piece "A Song Flung Up to Heaven".
Now in her seventies she is still working and reciving acclaim. In 2002 she was honoured by President Clinton and in the same year Hallmark introduced The Maya Angelou Life Mosaic Collection which is a series of greeting cards containing her verse.
She has plans to write a cook book and direct another film.

Mary Seacole, born in Kingston in 1805 to a Scottish army officer and a free black woman who not only nursed the sick, ran a boarding house but who also taught her daughter about the healing properties of herbal medicine.

Mary Seacole, using herbal medicine, played a pivotal role in not only the 1850 cholera epidemic but also the yellow fever outbreak in Jamaica. As her notoriety grew she was soon performing operations on persons suffering from gunshot and knife wounds.

From her travels across the Caribbean, Mary Seacole increased her knowledge of how people used local plants and herbs to treat the sick. She also treated persons afflicted with cholera in Panama. Mary learnt more about how the cholera disease attacked the body by performing an autopsy on one of its victims.

When soldiers of the Crimean War began to suffer from cholera and malaria, Mary went to London to offer her help and expertise but was rejected due to prejudice against women performing medicine. However, when the government was forced to change their minds they enlisted the less skilled Florence Nightingale along with a team of thirty-nine nurses. Mary's application to join Florence Nightingale's team was denied.

A successful business woman at the time, Mary travelled to Crimea at her own expense. She visited Florence Nightingale to offer her services but was once again turned down.

Unwilling to give up, Mary started a business called the British Hotel, where she served food and drinks to the soldiers. She used her profits to finance medical treatment for the soldiers.

Unlike Florence Nightingale and her team who were based miles away from the battlefield, Mary treated her patients, from both sides, on the battlefield.

Mary returned to England at the end of the war in 1856 with plans to work as a nurse in India, but gave up the idea as she was unable to finance the trip.

She died in London on May 14, 1881.

Rising Stars which is similar to "American Idol" showcases the untapped talent of Jamaicans and assist them to refine their talents.

In this moment, a divine plan is unfolding in my life.
There may be times when events in my life just do not seem to make sense. I may question why something happened or how I ended up in my present circumstances.
With an increasing understanding of divine order, however, I realize that when my attention is focused solely on myself and my world of experiences, I am not seeing the whole picture. As I expand my vision through the lens of spiritual understanding, I take in the divine plan that is unfolding. I see order in my life and in the world.
From this expanded viewpoint, I watch as problems shrink in both size and importance. I relax and enjoy living in each now moment, allowing answers to come in the form of inner wisdom and divine solutions.

Born on February 1, 1957, christened Dennis Immanuel Brown. The 'Crown Prince of Reggae' died on July 1, 1999.

Before leaving he gave us hits like; 'Love and Hate', 'No Man is an Island', 'Revolution', 'West Bound Train', 'Silhouette', 'Ain't That Loving You', 'Stop The Fussing and Fighting', 'Equal Rights' and 'How Could I Leave'...just to name a few.

What a way nobody no turn out fi the 'Gully Creepa' funeral.

We reach the church about 12 noon only a handful a people was there. Ice's body never reach the church until 12:30 pm, then a few vehicle started to roll in.

We have to big up the few dancers who came out to pay their respect: Dance Xpressions, Keiva, Sample Six, Lady Dagga, Black Roses Dancers and Kangaroo. Voicemail were the only entertainers there.

What happen to all the other dancers, entertainers and members of the dancehall fraternity. How come them never come out to pay their respect to Ice? Me can't believe the 'Energy God' Elephant Man of all person wasn't there. Him ride off of the man dance "Gully Creepa" and never even see it fit to pay him last respect to the dancer.

It only leave us to speculate and pass our assumptions as to what was going on in Ice's life and the reason behind his passing. Could it be fear why the dancers and everyone else stayed clear of the funeral?

As I said we can only assume.

Olympic historian, swimmer Michael Phelps admits to engaging in "regrettable" behavior and showing 'bad judgment' after British tabloid runs photo of him appearing to smoke marijuana. He is unlikely to face any punishment as the drug is banned 'in-competition' only.

"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," Phelps said in a statement released by Octagon, his management firm, and posted on his Facebook site. "I'm 23 years old, and despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public...it will not happen again."

Marketing experts said the incident should have minimal effect on Phelps' multimillion-dollar sponsorships because of his quick apology.

Phelps has never failed a drug test during his career and was one of several American athletes who volunteered to undergo additional testing to dispel any suggestions that he might be benefiting from performance-enhancing drugs.

This isn't Phelps' first public stumble. In 2004, when he was 19 and a few months removed from winning six gold medals at the Olympics in Athens, he was pulled over by authorities after rolling through a stop sign and charged with driving while intoxicated. Phelps publicly apologized, calling it an "isolated incident." He agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors that sentenced him to 18 months of probation.

I am in the right place at the right time for perfect employment.
I have fulfilling work to do that is an absolutely perfect fit for me. It may be my present job or a new one, a paid position or one in which I serve as a volunteer.
Whatever I do, I am appreciated and valued for my time and talents. As a paid employee or volunteer, I have more than enough to feed, clothe, shelter, and otherwise care for myself and my loved ones.
I remember that the young people in my life also need to be appreciated and valued. Like adults, they are fulfilled in making meaningful contributions to our world, and I encourage them towards success.
I give thanks for the great variety of jobs in the world and the people who perform them. There is a purpose for it all, and I know that my purpose is always being revealed.
