News Brief

Shower Posse leader Vivian Blake is in Jamaica
Clarke.jpgAccording to news reports, the notorious Shower Posse leader Vivian Blake landed in Jamaica yesterday. It has been in high rotation that Blake was being deported from the United States after serving almost nine (9) years in Federal Prison.

In June 2000 Blake was sentenced to 28 years in Federal prison in a Miami Federal Court. He had been indicted there 12 years earlier but American authorities said he fled to Jamaica, by boarding a cruise ship in Miami, where he remained free until his arrest in 1994.

He along with other members of his gang were given lengthy sentences based on 52 charges brought by Federal prosecutors. These included racketeering, smuggling and distributing marijuana and cocaine from the Bahamas through the United States.

Ice to be buried Saturday, January 31, 2009.

Dancer and former member of the Black Roses crew David 'Ice' Smith will be laid to rest on January 31. Thanksgiving service will be held at the Our lady of the Angels church on Molynes Road, St. Andrew.

According to the chief executive officer of Brite Lite Funeral Services, Tommy Thompson, there will be a full glass casket so that well-wishers can see him, plus a glass chariot. It will be a festive occasion, music and a parade.

Ice, who created the popular Gully Creeper dance, was gunned down by unknown assailants on Boxing Day after reportedly going to a bar to purchase cigarettes.

let go.jpgAs a child, I may have constructed a paper boat and floated it in a bathtub or even a puddle of water. Now, in a quiet time of meditation, I imagine placing such a craft on the surface of a stream. Soothed by the warmth of the day's sun, I relax and visually follow my creation as it floats downstream.
I rest comfortably as I watch the boat ride over the ripples in the stream, bump into a stick or stone here and there. The stream flows in one direction, so I know I will not see my paper handiwork again. I have released it to a new "experience."
Like this peaceful release, I let go of any concerns and trust them to God's care. I have no need to take them back. God's power, wisdom, and protection exist here and now, where I am and as I am.
"They thought they could achieve their purpose; so they weighed anchor and began to sail past Crete."--Acts 27:13

News Brief

vybz-neyo.jpgAccording to our source, Vybz Kartel and Spice's 'Rampin Shop' has been ordered to be destroyed and pulled from all radio, television stations and the Internet by EMI Music Publishing.

Vybz Kartel recently received an email from EMI Music Publishing stating that 'Rampin Shop' infringes on the copyright license of Miss Independent by Ne-Yo.

This is what the email sent to Kartel states: "'Ramping Shop' by Vybz Kartel and Spice infringes the copyright in 'Miss Independent' (Smith/Hermansen/Eriksen). Clearance of this use of 'Miss Independent' has not been sought or obtained and I am informed that clearance will not be forthcoming. Accordingly 'Ramping Shop' cannot be released or exploited in any way. Please confirm your acknowledgment and acceptance of this, and that you will arrange that (i) all recordings of the infringing track will be re-called and destroyed and that no further copies will be issued, and (ii) that the audio and/or video will be taken down immediately from all Internet sites."

According to Kartel a re-mix of the song is currently being done. It will be released by Friday after it has been mixed and mastered.

comfort.jpgThe Christ within guides me as I act and speak in uplifting, comforting ways.
Listening with love, whether to a dear one who is in distress or even to the yearnings of my own heart, is an act of tenderness and compassion.
While acknowledging the present experience, I move beyond it as I silently turn within and connect with the Christ Presence at the core of my being. Raising my consciousness above sorrow or concern, I allow the Christ within to guide me in offering upliftment and comfort to others.
Secure and at ease, I trust the Christ Presence as my comforter and source of strength and wisdom. Through the divine presence within, I am an expression of loving kindness and comfort to those in need.
"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word."--2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

Lights! Cameras! And it's Vegas!

vegas1.jpgThe man who single-handedly ushered in a nation of "daggerers" and caused a generation of tenderfooted dancers and patrons to embrace kumina and beats of yesteryear, has flipped the script yet again.

Mr. Vegas' affinity for music caused him to take (only) a brief hiatus from the musical frontline; but he has returned with the new single, "I Am Blessed".

The song echoes Vegas' new musical path, but also highlights his unique way of altering moth-eaten techniques and transforming them into something current. Within a few seconds telltale signs of the seasoned Church chorus: "I am blessed; everyday of my life I am blessed" are heard over an uptempo Dancehall organ-fused mix, yet, Vegas also moves on to sing about struggles and negative situations he has encountered throughout his career. The artiste who returned from overwhelmingly successful shows in Trinidad and Hartford, Connecticut earlier this week, said, "The reason for this reinvention, is to do more positive music. This project that I'm working on is something that people can really look out for and it's something that I am already really proud of and happy with."

Born Clifford Smith, the young singjay with over 10 years of experience in the music business is known for his debut hit "Nike Air" followed by equally enormous hits, "Heads High", "Hot Gal Today", "Tek Weh Yuhself", "Hot Wuk", "Daggerin (Wha Di Gal Dem Need)", among others.

"I Am Blessed is the right start to my new drive and I did it for Live Up Records...It's more of a positive vibe. I think the music is heading down a negative path and I feel that I am one of the artistes who can make a difference. I hope other artistes will see this and realize they don't have to talk about guns to achieve success," he concluded.

Also, fans in England can look out for a fantastic musical treat from Mr. Vegas in upcoming weeks. His single, "Muss Come A Road" has peaked at the number one position on all Reggae/Dancehall charts in the country and he promises the shows will be nothing short of excellent, after being postponed last year.

News Brief

Air Jamaica to cut routes and staff
airJ123.jpgCome February 26, Air Jamaica will discontinue service to Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Cayman, Grenada and Barbados, taking along the jobs of an estimated 600 staff.

In a three-page letter to staff, President and CEO Bruce Nobles outlined the airline's cost-cutting business plan which is aimed at quickly stemming the substantial cash losses at the company and positioning the airline on a path to profitability

The airline is making its reduction two days before what has traditionally been the country's best month - March. This is in response to the projections outlined by tour operators who have painted a gloomy picture that March bookings were down, anywhere between 15 and 30 per cent.

Jamaica's first half a trillion budget

Its the first in Jamaica's history that the national budget has inched over the $500-billion mark.

Due to a combined increase of $9.7 billion in recurrent expenditure for the ministries of Education and Health the revised estimates has been pushed to $507.9 billion, up from the $489.5 billion that Parliament approved in April.

The revised estimates is said to represent an $18.4-billion increase, $4.86 billion of which is recurrent expenditure and $13.57 billion of which is slated to be spent on capital projects.

NCB permitted to close Olint's Account

The United Kingdom Privy Council yesterday handed down judgment in favour of National Commercial Bank, giving permitting it to close the account of the investment club, Olint Corporation Ltd.

The bank had applied to the Jamaican courts for the accounts to be closed, claiming that Olint did not comply with certain requests, one of which was to furnish the bank with an audited financial statement.

The Jamaican court refused to grant the order for the closure and NCB took the mater to the Privy Council.

The hearing took place yesterday and the Privy Council ruled that the bank’s reason for wanting to close the accounts were valid and therefore, the bank was entitled to close them.

According to one of the lawyers representing NCB the decision was an important one, not only for NCB, but for banks and the banking system generally.

The written reasons for allowing the appeal will be handed down next month.

In March 2006, Olint was severed with a cease and desist order from the Financial Services Commission.

in touch.jpgI live each day in the presence and love of God.
Upon self-reflection, I am aware that my actions may, at times, be out of touch with what I know is the truth about me. Since I believe that God is my source of abundant good, why would I ever be fearful about making ends meet? Because I've experienced the peace of forgiveness, how could I ever hold a grudge against a loved one? I know that God, my Creator, loves me unconditionally, so how could I ever feel unworthy?
To live in agreement with the truth, I keep in touch with God in mind and heart. By living consciously and faithfully and by seeking to expand my understanding of who I am and why I am here, I gain a new sense of reality and purpose. Rediscovering my true self, I live in congruence with my beliefs and in touch with the presence of God within me.
"But those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit."--Romans 8:5

No "I'm So Special" for BET 106 & Park.
Movado32225.JPGAfter all the hype surrounding Mavado's "I'm So Special" video, it did not premier on BET 106 & Park, however it was launched via the internet.

According to his management, intervention from someone in the legal department prevented the video from airing. The person had censorship issues with the video, as it relates to "excessive display of alcohol," and "careless use of women as writhing set dressings."

People can now watch the video online.

A Medical doctor testifies that on the night of King's murder, he saw the defendant Sheldon Pusey, at the home of Mr. King.

He said King introduced the accused to him as Sheldon. The doctor said he spoke to Pusey for a brief time and even asked Pusey how his fingernails were so shiny. He said up to the time when he left the premises at minutes to 8 p.m., Pusey was using a computer in the room where they were.

Mr. Vegas' "Tek Weh Yuh Self" Makes Vibe Magazine's '80 Best Songs of 08'

Vegas Performance pic 2.jpgThe fire of Mr. Vegas' killer single "Tek Weh Yuh Self" continues to burn after years of getting love in the dancehalls. Recently, the monster hit "Tek Weh Yuh Self" was voted #74 on Vibe Magazine's "80 Best Songs of 08" list.

Mr. Vegas' presence on the Vibe list is by all means a pleasant surprise. And even more impressive is the fact that Mr. Vegas is one of only two dancehall artists to make the billing, the second is Mavado. The phone lines have been ringing incessantly since the January 2009 issue of Vibe was released.

According to Vibe Magazine, "Tek Weh Yuh Self" thrived in part because it featured "one of dancehall's perennial hitmakers over a stripped-down, spring-loaded track."

"It is overwhelming to know that the music that I am making has longevity," says Vegas sincerely. "Even though I recorded 'Tek Weh Yuh Self' some time ago -- each time I perform it, the audience reacts as if it is a brand new song."

It's clear that Mr. Vegas has the ability to meticulously deliver straight dancehall music to the doorsteps of a mainstream audience. Making Vibe's "80 Best Songs of 08" is just another example of Mr. Vegas' universal appeal. The dancehall star shared a spot on the list along with heavy weight artists including Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, T-Pain, Lil' Wayne, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Jay Z to name a few.

"Tek Weh Yuh Self" is just one of Mr. Vegas' hits that are receiving attention. The omnipotent "Mus Come a Road" continues to dominate loads of international charts. And the steamy new single "Deh Pon De Scene" is killing the place.

In addition to touring with Mr. Vegas, Boricia will also take on numerous solo bookings, engagements and dance tours. Boricia's management, Irish and Chin, Inc., has plans to make her the first profesionally managed and globally marketed Jamaican dance act.

Dancehall Diva Timberlee is on the Rise

timberlee 2.jpgIt's only one month into the New Year and the beautiful dancehall star Timberlee already boasts a growing list of accomplishments.

Timberlee's presence as the new, lovely face of dancehall is not without merit. Notably, the dancehall star is nominated for "Female Artist of the Year" in the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards (EME). Needless to say, Timberlee is humbly pleased that fans are recognizing her talent.

Still reveling in the success of "Bubble Like Soup," Timberlee's new single"Heels" is spreading internationally like wildfire. Receiving a warm welcome from female fans through out the dancehall arena, the quirky and bubbly "Heels" is spawning a craze. Moreover, "Heels" has redefined every lady's inner passion for fine footwear. Produced by Leftside, "Heels" is in a league of its own -- receiving heavy plays on radio and attention of the media.

"I feel very accomplished," says Timberlee. "It makes me feel good that 'Bubble Like Soup' is still bubblin' after almost three years…….and I just love that 'Heels' is thriving."

The pop-inspired "Heels" is not the only example of Timberlee's exploration with diverse music genre. Recently, the femme fatale recorded the fiery combo "Gangsta Style" with Bounty Killer. Laced with traces of Jazz and Rock and Roll, Timberlee skillfully holds her own in "Gangsta Style." Gramps makes local solo debut at Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival

Granps.jpgJust as his father predicted, Gramps Morgan, of Morgan Heritage is making his mark as a solo performer.

Last November Gramps performed in London apart from his longstanding group, Morgan Heritage, for the first time. He spoke of branching off and becoming a solo act as something his dad had said would happen. Gramps feels good that his father is able to see the fulfillment of his words that said, each member of Morgan Heritage would go on separate paths to highlight their individual uniqueness.

In London Gramps was featured solo along with Marcia Griffiths; and his next solo appearance will be at this week’s Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival in Montego Bay. Calling his Jamaican debut history, Gramps, who appeared with Morgan Heritage at the recent Rebel Salute, is looking forward to Thursday night’s performance with confidence.

The keyboard playing vocalist of Morgan Heritage recently released the singles, “Watch The Tears” and “Hour Of Prayer” – in collaboration with Buju Banton. Besides those, Gramps has a number of solo singles out.

Words of Truthprotected.jpgI boldly and gratefully accept the gifts of Spirit.
An affirmation is not merely wishful thinking; it is a statement of truth by which I claim the good that is mine to claim. With positive affirmations, I boldly and gratefully accept the gifts of Spirit.
Conditions in the outer adjust to agree with God's bountiful provision, and I am uplifted to a better understanding of my unity with my Creator. This clears the way for divine perfection to be revealed.
God breathes through me as the inspiration for positive, life-affirming words--words of health and wholeness, of abundance and infinite supply, of thanksgiving for blessings, both seen and unseen. Words of truth confirm all that God provides.
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."--Psalm 19:14

Joke Of The Day

joke_095.jpgA man was pulled over for speeding down the highway; the officer came to the driver’s window and said, "Sir, may I see your driver’s license and registration?" The man said, "Well officer I don't have a license, it was taken away for a DUI." The officer, in surprise, said," What, do you have a registration for the vehicle?" So the man replied, "No sir, the car is not mine I stole it, but I am pretty sure I say a registration card in the glove box when I put the gun in it." The officer stepped back, "There is a gun in the glove box?!?" The man sighed and said, "Yes sir, I used to kill the woman who owns the car before I stuffed her in the trunk." The officer steps toward the back of the car and says," Sir do not move, I am calling for backup." The officer calls for backup and about ten minutes another highway patrolman arrives. He walks up to the window slowly and asks the man for his driver’s license and registration. The man said," Yes officer here it right here." It all checked out so the officer said," Is there a gun in the glove box sir?" The man laughs and says," No officer why would there be a gun in the glove box." He opened the glove box and showed him that there was no gun. The second officer asked him to open the trunk because he had reason to believe that there was a body in it. The man agrees and opens the trunk, no dead body. The second officer says, "Sir I do not understand, the officer that pulled you over said that you did not have a license, the car was stolen, there was a gun in the glove box, and a dead body in the trunk." The man looks the officer in the eyes and says, "Yeah and I'll bet he said I was speeding too."

Divine Order
123456.jpgI recognize and accept this divine order day.
On occasion, I may need to remind myself to think affirmatively rather than to think negatively about situations. This is important, because my very thoughts can either lift my spirits and encourage me on or they can bring me down and stop me in my tracks.
Affirming divine order is a concise, powerful way of contributing to the best outcome of every situation. It's as if while writing an outline of how I think my day should be, I hit the "escape" key so that I can start over and experience something even better.
How could I possibly do better than to affirm a divine order day? Because I do, I am ready for the best each day: I recognize it, and I accept it.
"Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good spirit lead me on a level path."--Psalm 143:10

Joke Of The Day

joke_095.jpgAn airline captain was helping a new blonde flight attendant prepare for her first overnight trip. Upon their arrival, the captain showed the flight attendant the best place for airline personnel to eat, shop, and stay overnight. The next morning as the pilot was preparing the crew for the day's route, he noticed the new stewardess was missing. He knew which room she was in at the hotel and called her up to ask what happened to her. She answered the phone, crying, and said, "I can't get out of the room!" "You can't get out of your room?"; the captain asked. "Why not?" She replied, "There are only three doors in here," she sobbed, "one is the bathroom, one is the closet, and one has a sign on it that says 'Do Not Disturb'!"

Rebel Salute’s 16th anniversary honored President Barack Obama

rebel.JPGRebel Salute went all night until daylight last Saturday, with patrons getting what they were promised and more.

Marking its 16th year the show shook Port Kaiser Sports Club in St Elizabeth, with invigoration stamped on Tony Rebel himself who stirred up the crowd with his, “Another Rebel Salute Again” and so many other great shots. This was a huge celebration appropriately billed as, an Obama pre-inauguration event.

It was a refreshing new emphasis in the chants from artists, who echoed a steady note of respect and joy for the historical first taking place in the United States. President Barack Obama’s picture served as the backdrop and his achievement, a well espoused theme.

Despite the disappointing lack of luster in a few of the more vintage moments on stage, the concert was popping, with its numerous band changes going smoothly for the most part. Seasoned hosts, Mutabaruka, Isis, Jenny Jenny and Cordel Green were the MC’s who worked well in keeping things flowing.

Well received by the crowd, artists like, Lady G, Mykal Rose, Cherine Anderson, Luciano, Konshens, I Wayne, Tarrus Riley and Queen Ifrica gave stirring performances.

Sanchez and his signature striking tone filled the air with glorious sounds including “Amazing Grace” that was crisp and honored by the masses in attendance.

As the morning came on strong, the energy laden Capleton added to the high level of excitement, Morgan Heritage and Chuck Fender were also on point.

Beenie Man put new meaning into the word frenzy, as the crowd, that remained considerably thick for more than 12 hours were anxious at around 8:00am to hear and enjoy ‘The Doctor’. It was “Moses - we love you;” and a fresh infusion of vigor as Beenie Man gave them what they wanted in a dynamic rocking dancehall vibe.

Whats Poppin

Tarrus and his new Empress
Tarrus.jpgIt seems like Tarrus and Etana are no longer an item as his new tune "Cold Kisses" seem to be written for Etana...."Cant believe that your love is fading, can't believe you pushing me away". However he was spotted at Rebel Salute with a new empress from the Bahamas on his arm, I guess she is keeping him warm. And guess what the new empress is definitely ROYAL...what a substance.

Sought for the stabbing, was another student who is 16 years old. The suspect is alleged to have inflicted the wounds after a quarrel lead to a fight last Wednesday.

turning.jpgTurning Point
God is the way--this moment, this day.
God knows and shows me the way to and through every turning point in life. At those times when I may feel at a loss as to what to do, I affirm: God knows and shows me what is mine to do.
Feelings of loss can come in many ways: a temporary or longtime separation from a spouse, child, partner, or friend; the termination of a job; or the experience of not meeting a personal goal.
I find my way through these times as I rely on God to lead me on to new or renewed relationships, career opportunities, and fulfilling accomplishments. I move forward with enthusiasm. I respond with faith to opportunities to stretch and grow beyond what I did the day before--even the moment before.
"And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."--Romans 8:27

Barack Obama’s celebrations spiced up by Cherine Anderson

barack-obama.jpgIn line with the well deserved outpouring of adulation for President elect Barack Obama, one of Jamaica’s most exhilarating songstresses will add a little reggae spice to the celebrations in Washington today.

Cherine Anderson, who is making tidal waves with her strong voice and vibrant appearances, landed herself a part in this important segment of world history that is about to unfold in Washington DC, USA.

The Peace Ball, hosted by Harry Belafonte, will take place today at the Smithsonian Institute’s Postal Museum and Cherine has been invited to perform.

Yesterday she gave it her all and was amazing at The Green Ball that was hosted by former Vice President, Al Gore. Held at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Center, the event was enhanced further with performances by John Legend, Melissa Etheridge and Maroon 5.

With all roads leading to Washington DC and the world’s eyes focused on history in the making, Cherine is in line to give a musical Jamaican salute to a moment aptly referred to as ‘a time for re-building, re-birth and re-newal’.

Jimmy Riley arrested, fingerprinted and bailed for punching wife

jimmyriley.jpgJimmy Riley is one of Jamaica’s hard-hitting reggae icons whose artistic excellence lives on in his son Tarrus. However the reggae star has a bit of a lesson to learn about keeping the heavyweight act for the studio and stage, rather than following up belligerence with physical violence.

Last week Riley appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court and faced the serious charge of hitting his wife. Sandra Bramwell-Riley was also present in the court, where she backed up her police report, given on January 4 at the Stony Hill Police Station.

In her report, Bramwell-Riley alleged that following an argument that developed while she traveled with her husband, he hit her hard in her face and later threatened her with a knife. Injured by the attack, Bramwell-Riley followed through with charging her husband and told the court that this was not the first time she has been abused in this manner by him.

Riley, whose real name is Martin Riley was also said to have hit his wife on other occasions. When Bramwell-Riley went to police on after a previous similar incident, she was told to go home and try working out the domestic dispute.

In Riley’s defence, his lawyer, Peter Champagnie offered the rebuttal that the alleged incident did not happen as reported by his wife. In his view, the matter should be referred to the Dispute Resolution Foundation or for counseling; not an option for Bramwell-Riley who no longer lives in the matrimonial home, she said.

Riley will return to court on January 30 and was ordered to be fingerprinted by Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown who extended his bail.

Bramwell-Riley told the court that Riley has been steadily pleading with her to drop the charges since she made the police report.

purpose.jpgI am a healthy, wise, and peace-filled child of God.
When I contemplate my life's purpose, what is it that first comes to mind? I may turn in thought to my family, believing that an important intention I fulfill is to nurture my spouse, children, or grandchildren. I may then turn to my achievements toward a lucrative career or my dedication to serving others through my contributions.
As I continue to reflect on my life, I realize that in the midst of all that exists in the world, God has an all-encompassing purpose for me. I was created to be a healthy, wise, and peace-filled child of God. Just as I nurture and give to others, I am to love and care for myself also.
Knowing who I am and where I'm going, I affirm: As a child of God, I am a source of the love and light of God in the world. Enthusiastically, I live my life with purpose.
"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me."--Psalm 138:8

Suspect detained for the murder of Ice

ice dancin wid digi workers.jpgInformation given to police by witnesses led them to the recent arrest of a suspect in the shooting death of Black Roses Crew member, Ice.

According to The Star, the suspect, whose name has not yet been released by police, has not yet been officially charged, He was taken into custody on last Saturday. He has however been identified as a labourer from the Waltham Park Road area.

Ice, whose real name is David Alexander Smith, died from gun shot wounds inflicted on him just after he left a bar on Newark Avenue in Kingston where he went to buy cigarettes on Boxing Day.

Investigations are continuing and police have further revealed that it appeared as if the dancer’s car had been in an accident.

The suspect already had a shooting charge pending for another case and a condition of his bail was to report to police regularly. While reporting recently, he was held by police, following information that linked him to a robbery and further to the murder of Ice.

Reports disclosed that the suspect had been implicated in a case of aggravated robbery. While the suspect was at the police station, the robbery complainant and victim, who was also there, noticed a watch on the suspect’s arm that he identified as his.

The labourer was detained and interviewed. Police investigators felt justified in holding him following the interview. Reports say he will be interviewed further and then charged shortly.

Getting to the bottom of the violent demise of Ice is inevitable and his fans are anxious to put closure to the entire situation. The beloved dancer was the creator of the dance, ‘Gully Creeper’ made popular at the Beijing Olympics by Usain Bolt, who did the dance after his historical win.

"Me and Mi Kru" Premieres on CVM in February.

CVM logo.JPGInnocent Kru has been deeply missed since they faded from the spotlight after gaining much popularity with hits like, "Impossible Train" and "If I Could Rule The World". For 2009 however, they will be making a big comeback as the main characters in a television sitcom titled, "Me and Mi Kru".

Scheduled to premiere on February 2, 2009 on CVM TV, the show has been described by Innocent Kru member, Benzly-Hype, as a reflection of the group's experiences as they delved into the business of music. It is fictitious, but is based on their career path.

Originally a group of four, Innocent Kru lost a member to tragic circumstances just before the sitcom began shooting. Clumsy Daps, whose real name was Courtney Morris, died at his home at Seaview Gardens following a fight and stabbing. His character will be represented by actor Everaldo Creary.

It has been difficult for the group to continue without their partner, Daps, but they are still eager to see this production come to fruition. Remaining Kru members, Macka Head, Copper Kid and Benzly-Hype will forge on, despite the emotional barrier.

Benzly and Paul Beale have co-written the sitcom that was born from an inspiration gleaned while on the set of "One Love" where the Innocent Kru were working. The idea came to Benzly, he told "One Love" director, Rick Elwood about his thoughts and the rest is history.

Elwood, who also directed,"Dancehall Queen", is the director of the upcoming "Me and Mi Kru", that began filming a week ago at locations in Cherry Gardens and Rose Town.

Many stellar actors and entertainers will be featured in the sitcom, including, Leonie Forbes, Audrey Reid, Ronald Goshop, Professor Nuts, Candace Buchanan, Sly and Robbie and Spragga Benz.

Benzly has likened the sitcom to a cross between "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and the "Beverly Hillbillies", saying the story centres around a similar rags to riches storyline.

DREAM.jpgThank You, God, for those who share their dreams and inspire the world.
There are moments in time, in the annals of history, when great dreams are shared, when ideas are carried forth, when inspiration propels humanity to greater good.
A dream or a vision is not just for the few, but for the many--to be influenced, impacted, led to higher ground. Filled with respect and appreciation, I give thanks for the greater good that comes from such visions. The intentions of those in the past and the foresight of generations yet to follow hold the keys to understanding and progress.
Thank God for wise and insightful dreamers. I honor them for their contributions. And with divine guidance, I go forward, holding to the highest of standards and expanding understanding among myself and others.
"Let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning acquire skill, to understand a proverb and a figure."--Proverbs 1:5-6

Five Jamaican Kingpins plead guilty to drug trafficking in the USA

Kingpin.gifIt is reported that five Jamaican drug lords who were extradited to the US pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to import cocaine and ganja into the USA - they are: Norris "Deedo" Nembhard (53), Vivian Dalley (49), Robyn Williams (51) Glenford Williams (55) and Herbert Henry (46).

Prosecuters said that Nembhard and Williams paid members of the Jamaican Constabulary Force to provide security and transportation of the drugs which were delivered by go-fast vessels, where small quantities were sold in Jamaica and larger quantities going to the US by air and or sea through the Bahamas.

Joke Of The Day

joke_095.jpgJoe grew up in Jamaica, then moved away to attend college and law school.

He decided to come back to Jamaica because he felt he could be a Big Shot at home. He really wanted to impress everyone. So he returned and opened
his new law office in New Kingston.

The first day, he saw a man coming up the passageway. He decided to make a big impression on this potential client when he arrived. As the man came to the door Joe picked up the phone. He motioned the man in, all the while talking. "No. Absolutely not. You tell those clowns in New York that I won't settle this case for less than one million. Yes, the Appeals Court has agreed to hear that case next week. I'll be handling the primary argument and the other members of my team will provide support. Okay, tell the DA that I'll meet with him next week to discuss the details."

The "conversation" went on for almost five minutes. All the while the man sat patiently as Joe rattled off instructions. Finally, Joe put down the phone and turned to the man, "I'm sorry for the delay but as you can see, I'm very busy. What can I do for you?" The man replied, "I'm from Cable & Wireless, the telephone company, I come to hook up your phone."

pray.jpgOpen to change, I contribute to the best possible outcome.
Nothing is static in life, for life is about change and transition. When I am facing change, I may have a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach--much like I felt on my first day of school, first time riding a bike, first experience of driving on my own.
I am ready for change as--one day at a time, one experience at a time--I focus on what is before me to learn and accomplish. I am confident, for I have unlimited provision from God to call upon regarding my career, relationships, and finances.
I know that what comes next is a blessing of greater knowledge and skills. Remaining open to change, I contribute to the best possible outcome. Knowing that the one constant in life is God, my guide and companion at all times, I can hardly wait for the next blessing.
"But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating."--Isaiah 65:18

Italian songwriters go after Prince for plagarism

prince-edit.jpgFifteen years after Prince released his hit “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World”, an Italian Court of Appeals has ruled it was plagiarized from a song penned by two Italians.

The long legal process could even go on for more years, as the case is now set for what is termed a “third degree” in Italy, which will see it get a final ruling. This step normally takes a few years to be completed.

For now, Prince has been ordered by the Court of Appeals to refrain from distributing the song in Italy and he also faces an order to pay all royalties collected so far to the Italian songwriters and their publishers. That order for royalty payments will only go into effect once the final ruling confirms the Appeals court’s findings.

According to the Court of Appeals, songwriters, Bruno Bergonzi and Michele Vicino wrote the song, “Take Me to Paradise;” and Prince’s “Most beautiful Girl In The World” resembles the Italian’s tune in a big way. The court ruled that Prince’s song “borrowed heavily” from the Italian release.

Bergonzi told Billboard.com that the song penned by him and his co-writer, hit the streets in 1983 and was featured on compilations that got global distribution. According to the report, he said, “"When we first heard Prince's song we immediately took action, but this case has been dragging on for 15 years and it isn't over yet, such is the slowness of the Italian legal system. We only decided to go public with our story now."

In 2003, the Italian’s claim was thrown out of court by a sentence that rejected it. This recent ruling is against that original sentence.

In fact it is not such a recent ruling, as it was handed down in December 2007 and registered in February 2008. Bergonzi and Vicino have only decided to go public with it now, while they wait for further court proceedings.

Joke Of The Day

joke_095.jpg
A large, powerfully-built guy meets a woman at a bar. After a number of drinks, they agree to go back to his place. As they are making out in the bedroom, he stands up and starts to undress. After he takes his shirt off, he flexes his muscular arms and says, "See that, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She begins to drool. The man drops his pants, strikes a bodybuilder''s pose, and says, referring to his bulging thighs, "See those, baby? That''s 1000 pounds of dynamite!" She is aching for action at this point. Finally, he drops his underpants, and after a quick glance, she grabs her purse and runs screaming to the front door. He catches her before she is able to leave and asks, "Why are you in such a hurry to go?" She replies, "With 2000 pounds of dynamite and such a short fuse, I was afraid you were about to blow!"

Macka to star in first ‘Collywood’ Flick

1 Dandy Shandy Video Shoot - edit.jpgMacka Diamond is pulling out all stops as she lets her creativity flow for the benefit of her current fans and those she is yet to win with her upcoming role in an action packed Caribbean focused movie.

The chart topping DJ, who is in high demand globally, has opened up many new avenues for herself, starting with the launching of the book, “Bun Him”, which she authored; and now continuing with her major role in the film titled, “Paradise Redemption”.

Set to be shot in Antigua, the film is said to be filled with drama. Macka told The Star that “Paradise Redemption” is about her character, a middle aged woman, whose grown daughter is in the garrison. The daughter’s boyfriend is murdered and after getting involved herself, she also gets killed.

From there Macka’s character gets involved as she seeks revenge. In doing so, the DJ said, she’ll be getting down and dirty, pulling off some serious matrix stunts that even involve riding bikes. “It’s gonna be crazy,” she is reported as saying.

No stranger to the film set, Macka has held starring roles in the Jamaican television soap opera, “Royal Palm Estate,” so she is seasoned and ready. However, as this is her first major motion picture role, she has admitted that there are a few butterflies in her system, but that will surely pass. Acting was Macka’s forte while still a student and she is certainly dramatic in all her appearances as a prominent and respected DJ.

Filming will start on January 17th and Macka has a bit of studio work to complete before leaving for Antigua.

Set to be included in what is planned as an inaugural production of a possible Caribbean series that will ‘resemble’ the Nollywood or Bollywood films – from Nigeria and India, Macka is confident that this is the start of something big. The DJ is sure that she will go on to star in other films in the future; and is thrilled to be a part of what could very well be the beginning of ‘Collywood’ films – from the Caribbean.

Yardflex would like to wish Macka Diamond all the best on her new venture and a belated Happy Birthday.

Prosperity

20090113.jpgGod created me to experience a life of abundance. I claim my good.
As I respond from my inner sacred center, I do not react with panic or stress to negative news and predictions. I do not buy into any belief in hopelessness or lack.

When certain conditions that are not in line with an abundant life appear, I realize they are temporary. I affirm what is true for me and every other creation of God: Negativity has no power over me. It holds no permanence in my life or in the world.

God is the source of abundant good. Knowing and affirming that God created all to experience a life of abundance, I contribute to a consciousness of prosperity that enriches the world. Person by person, prayer by prayer, I join with others in proclaiming the truth of our personal and global prosperity.

"Those who are attentive to a matter will prosper, and happy are those who trust in the Lord."--Proverbs 16:20

Mr. Vegas Dominates Pop Charts with "Mus Come A Road"

By: Flair Lindsey

Mr vegas must come a road edit.jpgIt's a stone cold fact that nothing or no one can cool down Mr. Vegas' fiery, international smash "Mus Come a Road." The omnipresent Reggae hit "Mus Come a Road" is now competing against heavyhitters including JayZ, Justin Timberlake, Akon, Beyonce, T.I. and others on international pop charts.

This week, "Mus Come a Road" hit #6 on Germany's prestigious Black Music Chart -- up from #9 last week. Making a home on this chart for over six weeks, "Mus Come a Road," which features Barrington Levy, shows no signs of flinching. Although "Mus Come a Road" found a place on numerous pop charts over the past several months, it's presence on this chart is the song's highest to date. Even more impressive, "Mus Come a Road" is the only Reggae single on Germany's Black Music Chart -- beating out popular singles from mainstream artists.

"It pleases me to know the strength of Reggae music in international markets," commented Mr. Vegas recently regarding "Mus Come a Road's" overseas success. "It's quite an opportunity to have a place on the charts with some of today's biggest acts."

What really has everyone head-over-heels for "Mus Come a Road," is the zesty combination of popular singjay Mr. Vegas and Barrington Levy. Built on the Levy classic "Prison Oval Rock," "Mus Come a Road" bridges the gap of two generations of Reggae music fans. The "Mus Come a Road" single is accompanied by a "vintage, harder-they-come" style video, directed by Winston Mayhew. The highly regarded video truly captures the essence of the hit song.

International DJs and radio stations have whole-heartedly embraced "Mus Come a Road," which directly contributes to the single's undying buzz. And by all means, scores of dancehall fans have boosted "Mus Come a Road's" presence, converting the song from an underground sensation to a mainstream, global hit.

Last year, Mr. Vegas touched down on the Billboard "Hot Dance Club Play" with the club banger "Shake It," featuring rising songstress Anane and Tony Touch. "Shake It," crafted by guru dance music producer Louie Vega for the TommyBoy Records imprint, peaked at #2. And the explosive single remained on the chart for over 4 months -- it even rose above a dance track from Madonna.

Mr. Vegas is one of Reggae music's top artists. Although Mr. Vegas rides under the dancehall banner, his intriguing voice and style enable him to make great music in an array of music genre.

Joke of the Day

Seventh Day Adventist
joke_095.jpgA Jamaican walks into a bar in Miami, orders three Red Stripe and sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more. The bartender approaches and tells him, "You know, a beer goes flat after I draw it; it would taste better if you bought one at a time."

The Jamaican replies, "Well, you see, mi have two bredda. One inna Toronto, the other dey a London, and mi deya a Miami. When we all left home, we promised to drink this way to remember the days when we drank in MoBay. So mi drink one for each ah meh bredda and one for meh self."

The bartender admits that this is a nice Jamaican custom, and leaves it there. The Jamaican becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way:
He orders three pints and drinks them in turn. One day, he comes in and orders two pints. All the other regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your great loss."

The Jamaican looks confused for a moment, then a light dawns in his eye and he laughs. "Oh, no. Everyone's fine,"

He explains, "It's just that I joined The Seventh Day Adventist Church and I personally had to stop drinking”

Fantasia Barrino $1.3million house up for auction

fantasia-color-purple-edit.jpgIt is reported that Fantasia Barrino, an "American Idol" winner owes a Florida credit company $65,000 which she borrowed to pay owed back taxes to the IRS in 2006. She made a payment of $10,000 and has not paid the rest.

Larry Goldman, an attorney representing the credit company, Broward Energy Management, said that they have been trying for an entire year to get in touch with Miss Barrino but she has not responded to court documents and no lawyer has been to court to represent her. Due to this the financial company won the rights in court last month to auction off her house for the balance.

Since then Barrino has made no payments and filed no documents, but Goldman said he has since spoken twice with Barrino reps who said that they would be in touch. His clients are wondering why they just won't pay.

Barrino's attorney, Gary Greenberg declined to comment.

Pray for Others

20090109.jpg
God is the answer to my prayers, and all is well.

Praying for myself and for others, I tap into the mighty power of God. Creating a sacred space with faith and an expectation of our highest good, I call forth a response within me that is the activity of Spirit.
Perhaps I have relatives who are traveling a long distance. In my heart, I hold a vision of them, divinely protected. Giving thanks in advance, I know that all circumstances of their travel are falling gracefully into place.

I may know someone who is looking for employment. In prayer, I envision new opportunities for them, and the ways to fulfill them being revealed. With career pursuits in divine order, all is well.

Praying with surety and faith in our eternal connection with God and with one another brings all into alignment with the answer to prayer, which is always our highest good.

"Beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit."--Jude 1:20

A big change also took place in Massachusetts, where the State Executive Office of Public Safety and Security released information causing significant shifts in marijuana possession laws there. As a result, since January 1, 2009, small amounts of marijuana possession have been decriminalized, making getting caught by police in Massachusetts with less than an ounce, punishable by a civil fine of $100. Anyone caught with these amounts will no longer have a criminal record as they won’t be reported to the state’s criminal history board.

Unlike resolutions made on the first day of the New Year, the new marijuana possession law in Massachusetts is not going to disappear whimsically. However, Emily LaGrassa, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Martha Coakley, reportedly said the Legislature could at some point amend or repeal the new law. This is a step they have taken on some previous initiatives passed by votes

Law enforcement officials are reportedly not at all enthused about the new measure. The Herald News reported that they are strongly opposed to the law that went in effect on January 1st.

It was in November that the wheels began to really turn on this law when, with 90 percent of the state’s precincts reporting, the Question 2 proposition, which is how the proposal was titled, was overwhelmingly approved with a favorable 65 percent to 35 percent.

Ecstatic about the whole thing, the Committee for Sensible Marijuana Policy, expressed their joy for the people. Chairwoman of that committee, Whitney Taylor said “The people were ahead of the politicians on this issue; they recognize and want a more sensible approach to our marijuana policy." She said the general public wants to see more mobilization around very serious crimes instead of marijuana possession. Taylor said now the punishment will fit the offense.

Concern for potential consequences of such a law and how it will impact on especially high schoolers who experiment have been floating around. Some feel the law will send them a message that smoking marijuana is okay. There was no mention made however of the many unsavory indulgences introduced to said young people, supporters opined.

For the moment the law stands and law enforcement officers are training up and preparing themselves to be professional about the whole thing, whether they are in favor or not. Some have expressed the need for by-laws that would curb public marijuana use, as is the case with alcohol.

One hitch for the marijuana users is – police will continue to check for drivers under the influence of marijuana.

Faith

20090108.jpgMy faith opens the door to infinite supply and limitless life.
There may be times when doubt and fear about personal and global challenges begin to nudge aside my faith.

Yet as I tune in to the teachings of Jesus, I know to "Have faith in God." I hear the message "Your faith has made you well." I believe, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move."

As I tune out adverse appearances, my faith is renewed, enhancing my understanding of God's goodness in my life.

Jesus showed that faith opens the door to infinite supply, ever-renewing life, spiritual fulfillment, and all conceivable good. By following the guidance of my Way Shower, I build an unquestioning faith that my prayers are fulfilled by God's omnipresent power.

"If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."--John 15:7

Joke Of The Day

lol.jpgA little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though a whale is a very large mammal, its throat is very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. The teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human, it was impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him!"

Was Serani Set Up in St Croix?

serani.jpgWith no confirmation forthcoming so far from authorities in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, the dancehall community has been anxious about the reported robbery at gunpoint suffered by multi-talented Serani of DASECA Productions while in that island.

The man who has helped hone the skills of many popular dancehall superstars and cranked out solid hits including ones of his own, appeared in St Croix on Saturday night, after having performed in Guyana last week, it was reported.

Following his performance, described by a Star forum blogger as “much to be desired, because the extremely popular singer is said to have performed for only a short time,” he was taken to his hotel and dropped off along with his road manager.

It was reported that there just happened to be a set of robbers on the scene as the two alighted from their ride, who held up both parties at gunpoint, led them to their room and ordered them to lay face down, before robbing them. The coincidence in terms of the perfect timing of these Virgin Island robbers and their ‘perfect’ victims – who just got paid a tidy sum for performing, is leaving a sour taste in all forward thinkers’ mouths.

While no statements have yet been released from DASECA Productions, it has been reported that Serani and his road manager were also relieved of payment secured from the show held the previous night in St. Thomas as well money collected in Guyana. They also were allegedly robbed of some very costly jewelry.

Kip Rich sums up his view on Monster Empire in new track ”Coward”

kippooo.jpg
“Coward” is the latest release from Kip Rich who tore up the STING stage by putting some serious dents in the Monster Empire’s flow.

It has been an ongoing battle of the words spilling over from 2008, between Monster Empire – known also as Ghost, Roundhead and General B and the verbally slamming Kip Rich.

Releases from Kip Rich like: “Dem Caan Cow Wi” was salting up Monster Empire’s wounds in preparation for the STING blasting. To the disappointment of many, Monster Empire did not rise to the challenge that the tens of thousands were expecting at STING. They did not come out to clash Kip Rich.

“Coward” is how Kip Rich is calling it now with the track that refers to the former Monster Shock as, “Three duppy ah Jamworld…:”

Taking the lyrical feud into the New Year, “Coward” can be heard on several music programmes

Guidance

20090105.jpgI enter this new year with confidence, knowing that God lights my way.
In times of change or even turmoil, I may examine my plans or reexamine myself, wondering, Why is this happening? What can I do? What's next?
Placing all wondering and questioning aside, I realize that divine wisdom is always present to illumine my way. In prayerful meditation, I obtain a serene balance between questions and solutions. I acknowledge the peace within that soothes my soul.
I feel the calm assurance of divine insight and the tranquility of trust in outcomes. God is always here. Whether or not the details are obvious to me, I am ready to move forward confidently with my plans and understanding. I anticipate the known and trust in God for the unknown.
"May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known upon earth."--Psalm 67:1-2

No Beenie Man drives Patrons to pelt bottles on Reggae Campfire stage

By: Jaide

beenieman edit for camp.jpgWidalco Sports Club in Ewarton, St Catherine was bubbling on New Year’s eve night straight into Thursday morning, but the partying was abruptly aborted after it started raining bottles onstage.

Angry patrons got in a fit of rage after it was announced that Beenie Man would not be appearing and they made no qualms about showing their feelings by breaking in the New Year with a ruckus.

There was so much mayhem going on backstage and especially in the VIP area, as people were virtually causing a stampede as they tried to escape the hail of bottles.

What was the real reason for Beenie Man exiting the area without first performing? This is the question of the moment and speculations have taken different tones. Was there animosity between ‘The Doctor’s’ entourage and The Alliance crew? Unconfirmed reports from police say some incident took place, but no details about that occurrence were outlined to Yardflex.

Some media outlets have reported that there was a physical altercation resulting in a member of Beenie Man’s entourage being pushed to the floor, causing the ace DJ to leave after that.

Others have cited Beenie Man as leaving the venue, because he didn’t want to perform after Mavado.

Whatever the reason, New Years eve revelers looked and felt slighted and even though the show was great up until the confusion started, crowds were unforgiving and wanted their money’s worth.

Promoters and spokespeople for Beenie Man and The Alliance have been unavailable for comments.

Reggae Campfire did have a smooth and enjoyable beginning nonetheless, with artists like Black-er, Anthony B, Spice, Lady Saw, Elephant Man, Christopher Martin, D Major and Shaggy thrilling the crowd.

Kiprich in a militant mood

By: Joseph Cunningham

kippooo.jpgKiprich is more popularly known for his lyrics filled with gimmicks, however, at this years staging of Sting, the show recognized as one more suited for Dancehall music’s foremost gangster deejays, ‘Kippo’, as he is affectionately known, delivered a set laced with hard hitting lyrical content attacking his musical rivals.

Yardflex.com contacted the deejay after his memorable Sting performance to congratulate him on his exploits, and during that interview Kiprich revealed the developments leading to his lyrical tirade on the now disgraced Monster Empire – a group comprising three deejays.

Kippo said, “I became displeased when I heard Monster Empire disrespecting an icon like Bounty Killer. Monster Empire is not in any position to be passing their place with a legend like Bounty.”

The situation he relates to has to do with a recent fall-out between the same Monster Empire, and their former mentor, Bounty Killer, after which a scandalous lyrical assault was launched.

The Sting stage-show was like the settlement of all arguments, and Kiprich was obviously in a hurry to put the first thrashing on the Empire, the group he labeled the ‘Monster Flop’ during his explosive set.

The Monster Empire was indeed staring down the barrel of a major ‘flop’, faced with the task of performing in the aftermath of the Kiprich tirade; and once the MC announced their arrival, resounding boos could be heard from all angles of the huge Jamworld Entertainment Complex.

Kiprich is known by musical experts to have the ability to be a formidable opponent in a lyrical rivalry. Case in point - a similar lyrical assassination of fellow deejay, Hawkeye at Sting in 2003.

Now that he has passed the year’s and the music industry’s fan-based final and most important examination, he is focused on maximizing the potential of his two latest tracks, “Sinking Sand” and “Who She”- songs that are steadily increasing in popularity.

Lil Kim sees red on her portrayal in the flick “Notorious”

lilkimedit.jpgA biographical film entitled “Notorious” is getting ready for its January 16th release date and previews of the movie have at least one important character in an outrage.

Lil Kim is not pleased with the way she is portrayed in the film that tells the life story of the late rapper, Notorious B.I.G, known also as Biggy Smalls.

As one who played a key role in the past life of ‘Biggy’, Lil Kim is now saying enough is enough.

She told, Hip-Hip Weekly that she has had enough and puts the blame for what she sees as an offensive portrayal of herself, on the mother of Biggie’s child, Faith Evans and Biggie’s own mother Voletta Wallace, who both approved the portrayal.

Its reported that while Faith Evans was involved in the production, the film was produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs and Voletta Wallace. Lil Kim had minimal input into its creation.

The queen of sultry Hip-Hop told Hip-Hop weekly, "I've had enough and I'm about to expose them both... I've been quiet for a long time. I'm very disappointed in Faith. There's nothing Faith or Ms. Wallace could do to stop me from reppin' B.I.G. all day. I'm gonna always do that... It's time for Ms. Wallace to be exposed."

Lil Kim’s character is portrayed in the movie by Naturi Naughton.

Nikki Z will be back from ZIP FM suspension

NIKKI Z 3-edit.jpgSince her December 11th suspension from ZIP FM, morning show host Nikki Z has had a great deal of time to think about being careful with screening show content; and it seems as if others have been considering the repercussions of her actions so deeply that they have begun to imagine things.

In a letter sent to the editor of The Gleaner recently, Broadcast Commission head huncho, Cordel Green reiterated facts about censorship laws in Jamaica, under the title, “Impact of Broadcasting Commission being felt.” In his letter, Green alluded to what seemed to be the Nikki Z situation, by saying that, a female DJ lost her position from a prime-time slot on a popular radio station after playing a song on December 4th that contained an expletive.

Nikki Z’s suspension arose from an incident in December, when she played a song on her 6:00am to 10:00am show that had profane content. The song causing all the controversy was “Ride It” by Munga Honorable.

Only aware of a suspension and not termination of her employment, Nikki Z’s reaction was reported as being one of uncertainty. She told The Star that Green’s statement was new news to her, and to her knowledge she still has a job at ZIP FM. In the news report the popular and highly animated radio programmer was confident that her boss would have been the one to break such news to her; and he had not.

“But either way – no worries,” Nikki Z told The Star.

Meanwhile at ZIP FM, ZJ Sparks and ZJ Rose have been working the Nikki Z morning slot. They have new policies to abide by, that see them researching the music and writing up their log sheets way in advance, so their chosen songs can be double checked by programming.

D’Adra Williams, Programming Manager at ZIP FM was also in the dark about Nikki Z’s alleged redundancy.

Joke of The Day

Joke01.jpgA blonde, wanting to earn some money, decided to hire herself out as a handyman-type and started canvassing a wealthy neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any jobs for her to do.

"Well, you can paint my porch. How much will you charge?"
The blonde said, "How about 50 dollars?" The man agreed and told her that the paint and ladders that she might need were in the garage. The man's wife, inside the house, heard the conversation and said to her husband, "Does she realize that the porch goes all the way around the house?"
The man replied, "She should. She was standing on the porch."

A short time later, the blonde came to the door to collect her money.
"You're finished already?" he asked. "Yes," the blonde answered, "and I had paint left over, so I gave it two coats. "Impressed, the man reached in his pocket for the $50. "And by the way," the blonde added, "that's not a Porch, it's a Ferrari."

Sexy girl and guy shopping bags could boost condom sales

sexy_dude_bagging-edit.jpg
German condom manufacturer, Condomi, has given the term ‘scantily clad’ new meaning, as they’ve designed shopping bags that radiate an extremely laidback view on sexuality.

The bags have images of women and men dressed in little or no clothes from the waist down, but with their private parts discreetly and interestingly positioned at the handles of each bag. When shoppers carry these bags, it appears as if they are clutching the ‘naughty body bits’.

Seeming as if they were created as mood prods, the line of shopping bags have the ability to get patrons of the Condomi condom stores in the mood to test out their ‘hot’ new purchases. Keeping the bag around the house for recycling purposes – as the new trash receptor or tote for various articles, could also serve as a gentle reminder to re-visit Condomi and its steamy, sexy products.

Reactions to the artwork on these shopping bags have been varied, with many just loving the designs and describing them as quite hilarious. Some people have however expressed the idea that these bags may put shoppers in some parts of the world in trouble with the law.

Strength

DailyWordNovMagcover.jpgI have strength of Spirit, for the power of Spirit is within me.
Through various circumstances of life, I may be called upon to be physically, emotionally, and mentally strong. At these very times, however, I might feel as if I'm not up to giving my best.

My best, though, does come about as I affirm that I was created with unlimited strength of Spirit. Focused upon the indwelling Spirit, I open my mind and body to currents of stamina and strength. My physical strength is renewed. I am able to remain calm in the face of disturbances. I have the confidence and the clear thinking needed to do my best, meeting my responsibilities and embracing opportunities.

I call on this inner strength of Spirit at any time and in any circumstance, for the power of Spirit is within me.
"On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul."--Psalm 138:3

Songwriter of Marley hit No Woman No Cry Passes Away

vincent tata ford.jpgVincent “Tata” Ford, who is credited with writing the reggae classic hit recorded by Bob Marley called, “No Woman No Cry,” died at the age of 68. The very popular song was released on the 1974 “Natty Dread” album that rose to the top of international charts.

Ford, who ran a soup kitchen, succumbed to complications from diabetes, an affliction that had caused the loss of both his legs. Bob Marley Foundation spokesperson, Paul Kelly told reporters that he passed away at hospital on Sunday, December 28..

Both Ford and the late great Marley lived in the Trench Town area of Kingston in the 1960s; and Ford is also credited for having written three songs on the album, “Rastaman Vibration,” that was released in 1976.

There are accounts that state, Tata was only credited for penning the hit song, “No Woman No Cry,” but Marley actually wrote the song while at Tata’s place. Marley is supposed to have given his good friend credit in order to secure for him, the subsequent royalties.

Not only did Marley practice playing the guitar at Tata’s back in the day, but all The Wailers rehearsed at what was captioned “Tata’s Ranch (Casba)” – in bunny Wailer’s “Musically Speak” box set.

The wheelchair bound Tata was the second of Marley’s great mentors to pass in recent years, since Mortimo Planno, also passed on two years ago.

J$1Million found at ATM and returned

suitcase-full-money.jpgLegal secretary Dhaima Brookes recently became a living testament to many quotations, proverbs and honesty policies, when she found and returned a whopping J$1Million at a Portmore ATM.

Of course there are the slim chances that an affiliate of the legal profession would be dishonest; and in this case that notion held true, since despite causing onlookers to spew out angry words, Brookes handed the money over to authorities.

There were some witnesses to the discovery who felt the money, that was reportedly 10 stacks of $1000 bills, should have been possibly shared amongst the people in the mall, instead of turned in. “You found some money, jook out her eye,” a man is reported to have exclaimed in the mall.

By then, Brookes, who happened on the bag of money while attempting to use the ATM herself, had notified another ATM user, who happened to be a female police officer, Michelle Lewis. Together they hurried out of the mall and delivered the find to the Superintendent of Police.

Brookes, who told The Star that she felt good about doing the right thing because honesty is the best policy, spoke of having seen two Guardsmen armoured security personnel servicing one of two machines, prior to discovering the cash.

Guardsman Limited’s group manager, Valerie Juggan-Brown, reportedly expressed her gratitude and pride at what she described as Brookes’ act of kindness. The manager cited human error as having caused the money to become misplaced and said the busy period possibly triggered such an unusual occurrence. She told The Star, "Many measures are taken to prevent incidents such as this from occurring. There is usually a casket used to store the money, but it seems as though the money was rested on the counter “

Everyone was relieved in the end and Juggan-Brown said the company plans to give a big reward as an expression of their gratitude. “It is nice to know there is someone out there like her,” she told a Star reporter.

New Me

DailyWordNovMagcover.jpgThrough the renewing spirit of Christ within, I am a new creation.

A new me is emerging this year, and today is the beginning of a journey of discovery. Along the way, I am discovering skills and strengths, pursuing dreams and desires, completing projects and goals.

Everything old is in the past. No limiting conditions are left over. All has become new. Previously untried experiences stimulate my mind and creativity. This is a year of renewal of mind and body, of healing--physically and emotionally.

I joyfully reunite with people and places that have held meaning in my life. New acquaintances enrich my everyday experiences and inspire my progress forward.

I am not the same person I was last year or even yesterday. Through the renewing spirit of Christ within, I am a new creation.

"So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!"--2 Corinthians 5:17
