--------------------------------------- Ice to be buried Saturday, January 31, 2009.
Dancer and former member of the Black Roses crew David 'Ice' Smith will be laid to rest on January 31. Thanksgiving service will be held at the Our lady of the Angels church on Molynes Road, St. Andrew.

Ice, who created the popular Gully Creeper dance, was gunned down by unknown assailants on Boxing Day after reportedly going to a bar to purchase cigarettes.
As a child, I may have constructed a paper boat and floated it in a bathtub or even a puddle of water. Now, in a quiet time of meditation, I imagine placing such a craft on the surface of a stream. Soothed by the warmth of the day's sun, I relax and visually follow my creation as it floats downstream.
I rest comfortably as I watch the boat ride over the ripples in the stream, bump into a stick or stone here and there. The stream flows in one direction, so I know I will not see my paper handiwork again. I have released it to a new "experience."
Like this peaceful release, I let go of any concerns and trust them to God's care. I have no need to take them back. God's power, wisdom, and protection exist here and now, where I am and as I am.

The Christ within guides me as I act and speak in uplifting, comforting ways.
Listening with love, whether to a dear one who is in distress or even to the yearnings of my own heart, is an act of tenderness and compassion.
While acknowledging the present experience, I move beyond it as I silently turn within and connect with the Christ Presence at the core of my being. Raising my consciousness above sorrow or concern, I allow the Christ within to guide me in offering upliftment and comfort to others.
Secure and at ease, I trust the Christ Presence as my comforter and source of strength and wisdom. Through the divine presence within, I am an expression of loving kindness and comfort to those in need.
"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word."--2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
The man who single-handedly ushered in a nation of "daggerers" and caused a generation of tenderfooted dancers and patrons to embrace kumina and beats of yesteryear, has flipped the script yet again.
Mr. Vegas' affinity for music caused him to take (only) a brief hiatus from the musical frontline; but he has returned with the new single, "I Am Blessed".
The song echoes Vegas' new musical path, but also highlights his unique way of altering moth-eaten techniques and transforming them into something current. Within a few seconds telltale signs of the seasoned Church chorus: "I am blessed; everyday of my life I am blessed" are heard over an uptempo Dancehall organ-fused mix, yet, Vegas also moves on to sing about struggles and negative situations he has encountered throughout his career. The artiste who returned from overwhelmingly successful shows in Trinidad and Hartford, Connecticut earlier this week, said, "The reason for this reinvention, is to do more positive music. This project that I'm working on is something that people can really look out for and it's something that I am already really proud of and happy with."
Born Clifford Smith, the young singjay with over 10 years of experience in the music business is known for his debut hit "Nike Air" followed by equally enormous hits, "Heads High", "Hot Gal Today", "Tek Weh Yuhself", "Hot Wuk", "Daggerin (Wha Di Gal Dem Need)", among others.
"I Am Blessed is the right start to my new drive and I did it for Live Up Records...It's more of a positive vibe. I think the music is heading down a negative path and I feel that I am one of the artistes who can make a difference. I hope other artistes will see this and realize they don't have to talk about guns to achieve success," he concluded.
Also, fans in England can look out for a fantastic musical treat from Mr. Vegas in upcoming weeks. His single, "Muss Come A Road" has peaked at the number one position on all Reggae/Dancehall charts in the country and he promises the shows will be nothing short of excellent, after being postponed last year.

NCB permitted to close Olint's Account
The United Kingdom Privy Council yesterday handed down judgment in favour of National Commercial Bank, giving permitting it to close the account of the investment club, Olint Corporation Ltd.
The bank had applied to the Jamaican courts for the accounts to be closed, claiming that Olint did not comply with certain requests, one of which was to furnish the bank with an audited financial statement.
The Jamaican court refused to grant the order for the closure and NCB took the mater to the Privy Council.
The hearing took place yesterday and the Privy Council ruled that the bank’s reason for wanting to close the accounts were valid and therefore, the bank was entitled to close them.
According to one of the lawyers representing NCB the decision was an important one, not only for NCB, but for banks and the banking system generally.
The written reasons for allowing the appeal will be handed down next month.
In March 2006, Olint was severed with a cease and desist order from the Financial Services Commission.
I live each day in the presence and love of God.
Upon self-reflection, I am aware that my actions may, at times, be out of touch with what I know is the truth about me. Since I believe that God is my source of abundant good, why would I ever be fearful about making ends meet? Because I've experienced the peace of forgiveness, how could I ever hold a grudge against a loved one? I know that God, my Creator, loves me unconditionally, so how could I ever feel unworthy?
To live in agreement with the truth, I keep in touch with God in mind and heart. By living consciously and faithfully and by seeking to expand my understanding of who I am and why I am here, I gain a new sense of reality and purpose. Rediscovering my true self, I live in congruence with my beliefs and in touch with the presence of God within me.
"But those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit."--Romans 8:5

Mr. Vegas' "Tek Weh Yuh Self" Makes Vibe Magazine's '80 Best Songs of 08'
The fire of Mr. Vegas' killer single "Tek Weh Yuh Self" continues to burn after years of getting love in the dancehalls. Recently, the monster hit "Tek Weh Yuh Self" was voted #74 on Vibe Magazine's "80 Best Songs of 08" list.
Mr. Vegas' presence on the Vibe list is by all means a pleasant surprise. And even more impressive is the fact that Mr. Vegas is one of only two dancehall artists to make the billing, the second is Mavado. The phone lines have been ringing incessantly since the January 2009 issue of Vibe was released.
According to Vibe Magazine, "Tek Weh Yuh Self" thrived in part because it featured "one of dancehall's perennial hitmakers over a stripped-down, spring-loaded track."
"It is overwhelming to know that the music that I am making has longevity," says Vegas sincerely. "Even though I recorded 'Tek Weh Yuh Self' some time ago -- each time I perform it, the audience reacts as if it is a brand new song."
It's clear that Mr. Vegas has the ability to meticulously deliver straight dancehall music to the doorsteps of a mainstream audience. Making Vibe's "80 Best Songs of 08" is just another example of Mr. Vegas' universal appeal. The dancehall star shared a spot on the list along with heavy weight artists including Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, T-Pain, Lil' Wayne, Chris Brown, Rihanna and Jay Z to name a few.
"Tek Weh Yuh Self" is just one of Mr. Vegas' hits that are receiving attention. The omnipotent "Mus Come a Road" continues to dominate loads of international charts. And the steamy new single "Deh Pon De Scene" is killing the place.
After gaining international fame as the lead dancer for dancehall singjay Mr. Vegas, Jamaican-bred choreogrphapher Boricia Anthony Brown is set for the spotlight. In addition to touring with Mr. Vegas, Boricia will also take on numerous solo bookings, engagements and dance tours. Boricia's management, Irish and Chin, Inc., has plans to make her the first profesionally managed and globally marketed Jamaican dance act.
In the past year alone, the dancehall diva has lit up the stage in Japan, Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Guyana, Bahamas, Canada, Grand Cayman and many other hot spots throughout the United States and Caribbean. Boricia flawlessly incorporates an electrifying element into the stage show of entertainer Mr. Vegas. Converting the singjay's sets into all-out dance sessions, Boricia has scored with the fans.
Boricia soaks in the rawness of dancehall music, producing eclectic, enticing steps -- perfectly synchronized with pulsating beats. Once the dj unleashes the smash hit "Hot Wuk" and Boricia displays intricate moves that one should never try at home, the audience goes wild.
Boricia's ascent to fame is definitely that of fairytale proportion. It's clear that Boricia's infinite presence at Jamaica's famed open-air dances and in top Jamaican videos has not gone in vain. For it's through these appearances that Boricia was discovered. As Boricia tours internationally with Mr. Vegas, requests for her appearances have skyrocketed. Through out the world, Boricia is wooing crowds with her talent and bubbly personality.
In a short time, Boricia has become a dancing phenomenon, attracting a huge fanbase and loads of media attention. Due to widespread popularity and heavy demand, Boricia is set to further her shine as an international dance act. This year, Boricia will soar. For Boricia, the sky is the limit.
It's only one month into the New Year and the beautiful dancehall star Timberlee already boasts a growing list of accomplishments.
Timberlee's presence as the new, lovely face of dancehall is not without merit. Notably, the dancehall star is nominated for "Female Artist of the Year" in the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards (EME). Needless to say, Timberlee is humbly pleased that fans are recognizing her talent.
Still reveling in the success of "Bubble Like Soup," Timberlee's new single"Heels" is spreading internationally like wildfire. Receiving a warm welcome from female fans through out the dancehall arena, the quirky and bubbly "Heels" is spawning a craze. Moreover, "Heels" has redefined every lady's inner passion for fine footwear. Produced by Leftside, "Heels" is in a league of its own -- receiving heavy plays on radio and attention of the media.
"I feel very accomplished," says Timberlee. "It makes me feel good that 'Bubble Like Soup' is still bubblin' after almost three years…….and I just love that 'Heels' is thriving."
The pop-inspired "Heels" is not the only example of Timberlee's exploration with diverse music genre. Recently, the femme fatale recorded the fiery combo "Gangsta Style" with Bounty Killer. Laced with traces of Jazz and Rock and Roll, Timberlee skillfully holds her own in "Gangsta Style." Once the massive get a hold of the hardcore "Gangsta Style," there is no doubt that it too will be larger-than-life.
With a passion for music that's second-to-none, Timberlee constantly eyes music projects that will have an impact on the dancehall industry in some form or fashion. As a result of Timberlee's growing popularity, she is set to tour the U.S. and U.K. this Spring.

Words of TruthI boldly and gratefully accept the gifts of Spirit.
An affirmation is not merely wishful thinking; it is a statement of truth by which I claim the good that is mine to claim. With positive affirmations, I boldly and gratefully accept the gifts of Spirit.
Conditions in the outer adjust to agree with God's bountiful provision, and I am uplifted to a better understanding of my unity with my Creator. This clears the way for divine perfection to be revealed.
God breathes through me as the inspiration for positive, life-affirming words--words of health and wholeness, of abundance and infinite supply, of thanksgiving for blessings, both seen and unseen. Words of truth confirm all that God provides.
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."--Psalm 19:14
A man was pulled over for speeding down the highway; the officer came to the driver’s window and said, "Sir, may I see your driver’s license and registration?" The man said, "Well officer I don't have a license, it was taken away for a DUI." The officer, in surprise, said," What, do you have a registration for the vehicle?" So the man replied, "No sir, the car is not mine I stole it, but I am pretty sure I say a registration card in the glove box when I put the gun in it." The officer stepped back, "There is a gun in the glove box?!?" The man sighed and said, "Yes sir, I used to kill the woman who owns the car before I stuffed her in the trunk." The officer steps toward the back of the car and says," Sir do not move, I am calling for backup." The officer calls for backup and about ten minutes another highway patrolman arrives. He walks up to the window slowly and asks the man for his driver’s license and registration. The man said," Yes officer here it right here." It all checked out so the officer said," Is there a gun in the glove box sir?" The man laughs and says," No officer why would there be a gun in the glove box." He opened the glove box and showed him that there was no gun. The second officer asked him to open the trunk because he had reason to believe that there was a body in it. The man agrees and opens the trunk, no dead body. The second officer says, "Sir I do not understand, the officer that pulled you over said that you did not have a license, the car was stolen, there was a gun in the glove box, and a dead body in the trunk." The man looks the officer in the eyes and says, "Yeah and I'll bet he said I was speeding too."
Divine Order I recognize and accept this divine order day.
On occasion, I may need to remind myself to think affirmatively rather than to think negatively about situations. This is important, because my very thoughts can either lift my spirits and encourage me on or they can bring me down and stop me in my tracks.
Affirming divine order is a concise, powerful way of contributing to the best outcome of every situation. It's as if while writing an outline of how I think my day should be, I hit the "escape" key so that I can start over and experience something even better.
How could I possibly do better than to affirm a divine order day? Because I do, I am ready for the best each day: I recognize it, and I accept it.
"Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Let your good spirit lead me on a level path."--Psalm 143:10
An airline captain was helping a new blonde flight attendant prepare for her first overnight trip. Upon their arrival, the captain showed the flight attendant the best place for airline personnel to eat, shop, and stay overnight. The next morning as the pilot was preparing the crew for the day's route, he noticed the new stewardess was missing. He knew which room she was in at the hotel and called her up to ask what happened to her. She answered the phone, crying, and said, "I can't get out of the room!" "You can't get out of your room?"; the captain asked. "Why not?" She replied, "There are only three doors in here," she sobbed, "one is the bathroom, one is the closet, and one has a sign on it that says 'Do Not Disturb'!"
Rebel Salute’s 16th anniversary honored President Barack Obama
Rebel Salute went all night until daylight last Saturday, with patrons getting what they were promised and more.
Marking its 16th year the show shook Port Kaiser Sports Club in St Elizabeth, with invigoration stamped on Tony Rebel himself who stirred up the crowd with his, “Another Rebel Salute Again” and so many other great shots. This was a huge celebration appropriately billed as, an Obama pre-inauguration event.
It was a refreshing new emphasis in the chants from artists, who echoed a steady note of respect and joy for the historical first taking place in the United States. President Barack Obama’s picture served as the backdrop and his achievement, a well espoused theme.
Despite the disappointing lack of luster in a few of the more vintage moments on stage, the concert was popping, with its numerous band changes going smoothly for the most part. Seasoned hosts, Mutabaruka, Isis, Jenny Jenny and Cordel Green were the MC’s who worked well in keeping things flowing.
Well received by the crowd, artists like, Lady G, Mykal Rose, Cherine Anderson, Luciano, Konshens, I Wayne, Tarrus Riley and Queen Ifrica gave stirring performances.
Sanchez and his signature striking tone filled the air with glorious sounds including “Amazing Grace” that was crisp and honored by the masses in attendance.
As the morning came on strong, the energy laden Capleton added to the high level of excitement, Morgan Heritage and Chuck Fender were also on point.
Beenie Man put new meaning into the word frenzy, as the crowd, that remained considerably thick for more than 12 hours were anxious at around 8:00am to hear and enjoy ‘The Doctor’. It was “Moses - we love you;” and a fresh infusion of vigor as Beenie Man gave them what they wanted in a dynamic rocking dancehall vibe.
Tarrus and his new Empress It seems like Tarrus and Etana are no longer an item as his new tune "Cold Kisses" seem to be written for Etana...."Cant believe that your love is fading, can't believe you pushing me away". However he was spotted at Rebel Salute with a new empress from the Bahamas on his arm, I guess she is keeping him warm. And guess what the new empress is definitely ROYAL...what a substance.

Teenagers are repeatedly joining the section of society that refuses to address anger with heavy hitting words, rather than resorting to the use of weapons.
Recently Bog Walk police were faced with an incident they reported occurred in their area of St Catherine, where a 15 year old school boy was hospitalized after being stabbed in the shoulder with a knife.
Sought for the stabbing, was another student who is 16 years old. The suspect is alleged to have inflicted the wounds after a quarrel lead to a fight last Wednesday.
Turning Point
God is the way--this moment, this day.
God knows and shows me the way to and through every turning point in life. At those times when I may feel at a loss as to what to do, I affirm: God knows and shows me what is mine to do.
Feelings of loss can come in many ways: a temporary or longtime separation from a spouse, child, partner, or friend; the termination of a job; or the experience of not meeting a personal goal.
I find my way through these times as I rely on God to lead me on to new or renewed relationships, career opportunities, and fulfilling accomplishments. I move forward with enthusiasm. I respond with faith to opportunities to stretch and grow beyond what I did the day before--even the moment before.
"And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."--Romans 8:27

Cherine Anderson, who is making tidal waves with her strong voice and vibrant appearances, landed herself a part in this important segment of world history that is about to unfold in Washington DC, USA.
The Peace Ball, hosted by Harry Belafonte, will take place today at the Smithsonian Institute’s Postal Museum and Cherine has been invited to perform.
Yesterday she gave it her all and was amazing at The Green Ball that was hosted by former Vice President, Al Gore. Held at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Center, the event was enhanced further with performances by John Legend, Melissa Etheridge and Maroon 5.
With all roads leading to Washington DC and the world’s eyes focused on history in the making, Cherine is in line to give a musical Jamaican salute to a moment aptly referred to as ‘a time for re-building, re-birth and re-newal’.
Jimmy Riley arrested, fingerprinted and bailed for punching wife
Jimmy Riley is one of Jamaica’s hard-hitting reggae icons whose artistic excellence lives on in his son Tarrus. However the reggae star has a bit of a lesson to learn about keeping the heavyweight act for the studio and stage, rather than following up belligerence with physical violence.
Last week Riley appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court and faced the serious charge of hitting his wife. Sandra Bramwell-Riley was also present in the court, where she backed up her police report, given on January 4 at the Stony Hill Police Station.
In her report, Bramwell-Riley alleged that following an argument that developed while she traveled with her husband, he hit her hard in her face and later threatened her with a knife. Injured by the attack, Bramwell-Riley followed through with charging her husband and told the court that this was not the first time she has been abused in this manner by him.
Riley, whose real name is Martin Riley was also said to have hit his wife on other occasions. When Bramwell-Riley went to police on after a previous similar incident, she was told to go home and try working out the domestic dispute.
In Riley’s defence, his lawyer, Peter Champagnie offered the rebuttal that the alleged incident did not happen as reported by his wife. In his view, the matter should be referred to the Dispute Resolution Foundation or for counseling; not an option for Bramwell-Riley who no longer lives in the matrimonial home, she said.
Riley will return to court on January 30 and was ordered to be fingerprinted by Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown who extended his bail.
Bramwell-Riley told the court that Riley has been steadily pleading with her to drop the charges since she made the police report.
I am a healthy, wise, and peace-filled child of God.
When I contemplate my life's purpose, what is it that first comes to mind? I may turn in thought to my family, believing that an important intention I fulfill is to nurture my spouse, children, or grandchildren. I may then turn to my achievements toward a lucrative career or my dedication to serving others through my contributions.
As I continue to reflect on my life, I realize that in the midst of all that exists in the world, God has an all-encompassing purpose for me. I was created to be a healthy, wise, and peace-filled child of God. Just as I nurture and give to others, I am to love and care for myself also.
Knowing who I am and where I'm going, I affirm: As a child of God, I am a source of the love and light of God in the world. Enthusiastically, I live my life with purpose.
"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me."--Psalm 138:8

Investigations are continuing and police have further revealed that it appeared as if the dancer’s car had been in an accident.
The suspect already had a shooting charge pending for another case and a condition of his bail was to report to police regularly. While reporting recently, he was held by police, following information that linked him to a robbery and further to the murder of Ice.

Innocent Kru has been deeply missed since they faded from the spotlight after gaining much popularity with hits like, "Impossible Train" and "If I Could Rule The World". For 2009 however, they will be making a big comeback as the main characters in a television sitcom titled, "Me and Mi Kru".
Scheduled to premiere on February 2, 2009 on CVM TV, the show has been described by Innocent Kru member, Benzly-Hype, as a reflection of the group's experiences as they delved into the business of music. It is fictitious, but is based on their career path.
Originally a group of four, Innocent Kru lost a member to tragic circumstances just before the sitcom began shooting. Clumsy Daps, whose real name was Courtney Morris, died at his home at Seaview Gardens following a fight and stabbing. His character will be represented by actor Everaldo Creary.
It has been difficult for the group to continue without their partner, Daps, but they are still eager to see this production come to fruition. Remaining Kru members, Macka Head, Copper Kid and Benzly-Hype will forge on, despite the emotional barrier.
Benzly and Paul Beale have co-written the sitcom that was born from an inspiration gleaned while on the set of "One Love" where the Innocent Kru were working. The idea came to Benzly, he told "One Love" director, Rick Elwood about his thoughts and the rest is history.
Elwood, who also directed,"Dancehall Queen", is the director of the upcoming "Me and Mi Kru", that began filming a week ago at locations in Cherry Gardens and Rose Town.
Many stellar actors and entertainers will be featured in the sitcom, including, Leonie Forbes, Audrey Reid, Ronald Goshop, Professor Nuts, Candace Buchanan, Sly and Robbie and Spragga Benz.
Benzly has likened the sitcom to a cross between "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and the "Beverly Hillbillies", saying the story centres around a similar rags to riches storyline.
Thank You, God, for those who share their dreams and inspire the world.
There are moments in time, in the annals of history, when great dreams are shared, when ideas are carried forth, when inspiration propels humanity to greater good.
A dream or a vision is not just for the few, but for the many--to be influenced, impacted, led to higher ground. Filled with respect and appreciation, I give thanks for the greater good that comes from such visions. The intentions of those in the past and the foresight of generations yet to follow hold the keys to understanding and progress.
Thank God for wise and insightful dreamers. I honor them for their contributions. And with divine guidance, I go forward, holding to the highest of standards and expanding understanding among myself and others.
