The annual all White Affair Party held at the Caribbean Showplace in Montego Bay on Christmas Day, was a major success. It was surely amazing to see fans all show up in some form of white attire.

Introtec, Insomniak and D.J. Kentucky kept the patrons on their feet from 10 p.m. Christmas Day to the wee hours of Boxing Day.

Yardflex writer/photographer, Petal was on hand to capture some of the fashions that the patrons wore at the Wild Bunch Promoted event.

Merciless is not a candidate for ‘clash re-incarnation’ as far as the ‘Original Don Gorgon’, Ninja Man is concerned. He told reporters recently that he has already killed and buried Merciless and has no intention of re-visiting that ‘graveyard’.

At STING 2008, Merciless was by all accounts one of the hottest acts to grace the Jamworld, Portmore stage and he tried in vain to get his ‘clash’ on. Calling out artist after artist, he was not appeased, but told The Star recently that it is not over. “Dis war nuh done, anywhere mi buk him a war,” he declared, referring to his deep desire correct his loss to Ninja Man.

However, Ninja Man is not interested in what he described as clashing with an artist who may well be ready for Heineken Star time, the scene for ‘soon to be retired’ veterans. As far as the Don Gorgon sees it, if an artist hasn’t been in the mix for more than five years, it is time for them to hang up their microphone. Ninja Man said, Merciless has been out of the loop for eight years now. “Mi nah war wid Merciless again, him need to go do some tune,” the original gold teeth front teeth Don Gorgon stated to The Star.

What disturbs Ninja Man further is the fact that Merciless took his title and did nothing much to advance himself after doing so. Ninja referred to Shabba Ranks, Super Cat and Cobra who in the past toppled him in clashes and went on to do great things for themselves. Not so with Merciless. Ninja reportedly said, “Merciless come tek mi title and do nuting wid it. Mi come back and kill Merciless wid one tune and show seh me a di don.”

In need of a challenge, Ninja Man said he wants to test himself at this point to see how good he is in the business, so he would only clash with competition like: Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel. In fact he made such a request to Isaiah Laing the power behind STING, but was not accommodated on that count for the 2008 edition.

Still, in Merciless’ eyes, Ninja Man avoided him and ran away at STING 2008, after talking a good game in the media. He said that the war is not over and anywhere he meets up Ninja Man or Cobra, the lyrical war will be on.

In their quest to fight and win popular traditional lyrical wars, dancehall artists and their advisors have forgotten to consult the laws in Jamaica that determine what the legal boundaries and rights are for such warriors.

To the surprise of the genres two verbal hot shots, Vybz Kartel and Mavado, it has been reported that police are not only considering filing charges following the 25th anniversary of STING, they have video evidence to support their claims and will definitely be pursuing said charges. According to The Star, crime chief, Detective acting Deputy Superintendent Carl Malcolm said, "Having viewed the tape [of the event], we are now in the process of going full fledge at pursuing charges against Mr Palmer and Mr Brooks and any other entertainer who we find in breach of the act.

The act referred to by the acting Deputy Superintendent is the Town and Communities Act legislated to protect citizens of Jamaica from exposure to profanity and threatening words in particularly the public arena. Kartel and Mavado whose real names are Adidjah Palmer and David Brooks respectively are not the only ones being scrutinized on the videotape. Police are interested in all persons deemed to have violated the law while performing on the STING stage at Jamworld in Portmore last Friday.

STING was for the most part incident free and there was a massive presence of security and law enforcement there.

Police are not disclosing their timeline for the laying of charges, but they have revealed that it all depends on when their videotape reviewing process has been completed.

Dancehall artists in particular are being urged to remember that even though they think only sticks and stones will break bones, words do also act as weapons, attacking, discouraging and influencing minds. And legislators who work for the Jamaican people aren’t having it – not in public anyway.

Faith

My focus is on faith, and my way is clear.
Watching a parade, I hear the upbeat cadence of the next marching band in the distance. I wait and watch. Then the school banner, held high, appears. This standard introduces the band members, who are confidently following behind.

Just as students choose a leader they can trust to carry the flag high, I choose my faith in God to lead me through any situation. Faith leads me through all circumstances and is with me at journey's end.

I trust that with God I can do all things. My faith goes before me, and I follow, assured that I am on my right path, certain that my route is safe, and secure that all needs are met. I move forward with my focus on faith, and my way is clear.

First the clash now the after-clash, that includes the production of songs that highlight the heated clash moments play by play. Vybz Kartel reportedly went almost straight to the studio, fresh from STING on Saturday morning, to lay his thoughts down on what could be termed ‘continuation tracks’.

Further to the STING clash action, the song says clearly that Mavado fled the war-zone and therefore didn’t complete the clash. Produced by Portmore Empire, the track titled, “Don’t Run [Last Man Standing],” digs into Mavado and his Sting delivery.

Ricardo Fuller, the Jamaican born Stoke City striker got himself some negative headlines following a brawl with a teammate at Sunday’s losing game to West Ham in the English Premier League.

Facing disciplinary action for the on field row with captain, Andy Griffin, where Fuller struck the captain, the 29-year-old’s fate is in the hands of the club, who has declared the situation an internal matter, according to Teamtalk.

Calling Fuller a key player, Spokes City Chairman, Peter Coates told reporters, "I will talk to the manager when he gets back but it is an internal matter. He is a very important player for Stoke and will be important for the second half of the season. But it is our affair and we will deal with it in our own way.”

Fuller, who was red carded during the defeat at Upton Park on Sunday faces a three-match suspension.

Manager, Tony Pulis said there is no condoning what Fuller has done and he’s waiting for the in house meeting on the matter to be clear on follow up action.

The incident reportedly began when Fuller approached Griffin asking belligerently, why he had given West Ham’s Carlton Cole way to get past him – scoring in the 51st minute and canceling Abdoulaye Faye’s fourth minute header that had put Stoke in the lead.

Pulis told reporters that while Fuller is volatile, the two team-mates actually get along well together and spoke of his being shocked at the incident.

Today Coates said recovering from this is certain and that the team spirit at Stoke is good and will remain that way. He expressed disappointment at the lack of self control exhibited, and looks forward to the mend.

Guidance

The Christ Light of understanding shines through my every word and action.

Jesus' parents traveled a day's journey with a group leaving Jerusalem before they realized their young son had been left behind. Mary and Joseph returned to find Jesus in the temple, discussing spiritual ideas seemingly beyond His years. At a very early age, Jesus was allowing His spiritual light to shine for the benefit of those around Him.

My own beacon of awareness is revealed when I look beyond habitual, established ways of understanding life. Guided from within, I am willing to change the way I speak and act, and my Christ Light of understanding shines more brightly. Prayer and meditation help me keep my light shining brightly so that my daily decisions reflect growth and spiritual understanding.

I thank God for spiritual light that shines through my words and actions.

Many cultural legends left us this year, among them were some of the world’s greatest icons like: Byron Lee Miriam Makeba, Shirley Campbell, Michael ‘Mikey Dread’ Campbell, Isaac Hayes, Cedella Booker and Joe Gibbs.

With only a few days left before 2008 draws to a close, the world is unfortunately still racking up those numbers since more great ones have passed on.

Famous for her role as Cat Woman in the early television series of “Batman”, Eartha Kit died on December 25th at the age of 81. A huge inspiration for aspiring Black actors and actresses, she ‘purrrrred’ her way into many hearts throughout her career.

On December 24th, Jamaican film maker, Dickie Dobson, passed away. His 1970 film, “Countryman” became very popular internationally and he was honored at the staging of the first Reggae Film Festival n February 2008. Dobson was associated with every film project of the Island Jamaica Film and Music team that included Perry Henzell and Chris Blackwell.

Another shooting of a victim out to have fun; this time in South Philadelphia, is raising eyebrows at the level of anger that is triggering these actions or reactions.

A furious man pulled out his gun and wounded a man in a movie theatre because he was being disturbed by his father and son chatter.

According to reports in the Inquirer Daily News, police say a man identified as James Joseph Cialella Jr., is being charged for allegedly pulling out a 380 caliber gun and shooting the victim in the arm. His formal charges are for attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations.

Calling it truly frightening, police said that after arriving at the Riverview Theatre at around 9:30PM, the victim informed them of a man who sat close to him who told him to be quiet, before throwing popcorn at his son .

It is alleged that Cialella got up to confront the family after words were exchanged, and as he also got up, to protect his family, the victim was shot once.

Also petrified were the theatre goers, there to see “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button “, who reportedly scattered for safety.

At the end of all the ruckus, Cialella sat down to continue watching the movie and was arrested a short time after when police arrived and took his weapon.

With the idea that coming together can create a stronger force for assisting in the development of crucial infrastructures in Jamaica, The Toots Foundation, seeks to join with altruists of like minds.

Announcing their recent donations of J$2 Million to several organizations, the 501(3)c non-profit foundation, wants to coordinate efforts with other foundations in order to prevent duplication of services that are geared towards similar goals.

Toots’ former primary school, May Pen Primary, was amongst the recipients of hefty donations, recently, as were, The Jamaica Cancer Society, Bustamante Children’s Hospital, Victoria Jubilee Hospital and the Salvation Army School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

In a release from The Toots Foundation, each of the institutions receiving donations expressed deep gratitude and described their crucial need for upgrading facilities.

Other groups aiming at addressing similar needs in Jamaica include: organizers of Shaggy’s upcoming January 3, 2009 fundraising concert and the New York based Children of Jamaica Outreach Inc. (COJO).

COJO held its annual scholarship gala in December, and made customary donations; this time, to “Project Smiles” of the Jamaica AIDS Support For Life. The program compliments the existing one for orphans and children made vulnerable by HIV.

Gratitude

I am grateful for the constant flow of God's blessings in my life.

I welcome this day with a thankful heart. Beginning my morning in this way cultivates an attitude of gratitude not only for special occasions but for every day.

As I arise from a peaceful night, I give thanks to God for rest received and for blessings to come. This sets a positive tone, one that attracts life-enhancing experiences to me.

Sharing a simple "thank you" with others generates good feelings. My gratefulness is contagious and becomes a positive, attitude-changing influence.

It really looked like a draw in the end as hot ticket items, Vybz Kartel and Mavado left nothing unsaid during their lyrical war at the world famous annual reggae concert, STING.

Last night Portmore’s Jamworld Entertainment Complex was overflowing with STING followers, who came from all over Jamaica and the world. Many were anxiously awaiting the big clash between two of dancehall’s most respected and adored toasters today; and the two, known lovingly as, ‘Addi’ and the ‘Gully God’ did not disappoint.

If words could actually jump out of mouths and fatally puncture hearts, then there would be many bodies laying around after lyrical dancehall wars; and this time the ‘dissing’ was more than ‘fighting words’, it was over the top and murderous. Movado graced the stage before his opponent, looking like a cross between ‘Mafia King and Lone Ranger’ - suited out in all black and wearing a black mask. He called out Vybz Kartel, who entered the ‘battle-field’ looking ready for combat, decked out in full army gear.

Then the clash was on. It seemed like a very close competition as the artists went toe to toe with slicing lyrics and their fans urged them on with equal amounts of vigor,- screaming forward and roaring at every phrase.

At first, it appeared as if Mavado was on the losing end, as he was getting booed by the crowd, while Kartel had them going wild. Kartel’s antics must have sparked some flame inside Mavado though, because as soon as he brought out a coffin with “R.I.P. Barber Boy” written on it, the ‘Gully God’ first pushed the coffin off into the crowd, ‘shook his lion mane’ and started to roar.

From then on Mavado started rushing into his tunes as if he didn’t want Kartel to be heard at all; and as soon as he earned tumultuous applause, he exited the stage.

Kartel took that as a motion of ‘surrender’ and declared that Mavado had run away from the clash; and upon hearing those words, ‘The Gully God’ was back to launch further attacks, saying, “dem tink seh mi run, but a load mi guh load mi gun.”

He then made a quick exit once more, leaving Kartel to affirm again that, “him run – all the bands man dem run to.”

It was definitely heated on the STING stage as Ninjaman came out in what most thought would have been referee mode, except he decided to take sides. He asked the audience who they thought was the winner of the clash because he needed to go to war with one of them.

Don Gorgon Ninja proceeded to chant a tune ‘dissing’ Kartel, saying how he was longing to get back at him since STING 2003, when both artists had a little altercation. Before leaving the stage, Ninjaman said, “a Mavado win de clash.”

Even though Kartel and Movado held the spotlight for the exciting STING clash of 2008, the other performers were mostly in top shape, but as is the norm at STING, it was all about the people’s choice.

Gospel artists such as Goddy Goddy and DJ Nicholas performed really well. The crowds were more excited about Goddy Goddy’s lyrics though.

Performers like, Chino, Chi Ching, Laden, Bragga, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Demus and Assasin were just great on stage, giving their usual first class and polished efforts, wooing the crowds who received them very well.

Spice did her thing and rocked the audience more, after calling on Kartel, who joined her on stage to sing their new collaborative hit, “Rampin Shop.” Upcoming Portmore Empire artists, Black Ryno and Shawn Storm had the audience swinging as did Flippa Mafia, who did an excellent job. As the quintessential entertainer of the evening Flippa Mafia hyped up the crowd with his gimmicks when he came out pouring champagne on stage and as one bottle finished he went off stage for another. The artist also threw cash into the crowd in both Jamaican and foreign denominations.

Bounty Killer performed solo, without clashing anyone this year and he was on point, but seemed to overstay his welcome. Fans were calling for forwards for a time, until some started booing and clapping the artist.

Kiprich threw down a stunning set, sending the crowd in a frenzy with his ‘dissing’ of Monsta Empire. His was undoubtedly one of the best performances of the night, although Montsa Empire did not feel the same way, as they came out on stage in defense mode.

The crowds were not having it and Monsta Empire felt their wrath as the only audible sounds were boos – from the time the singing started until the end. Even though Monsta Empire tried their best to carry on and ignore the hisses and boos, they finally could no longer stand it and left the stage.

Mikey Pelpa got the first boo of the night after disrespecting the ‘Gaza’ where Kartel hails from. Alliance member, Bling Dawg was shocked as he too got the boo of his career, because he chose to sing a tune ‘dissing’ Kartel. “Sting mi love yuh,” he said before quickly leaving the stage.

Merciless walked out on stage looking for a clash. He tried in vain to call out several artists by name, such as: Bounty Killer, Ninjaman, Cobra and others. His failure to spur them on caused him to leave the stage disappointed, while saying that the promoter, Laing, made him waste his time.

By far the worst sounds coming from STING’s stage was Aidonia. He was stuck in a time warp as he came out singing songs that he performed at STING 2007. Not impressed one bit, the crowd booed him off in a heartbeat. This most disappointing for many fans.

No-one booed and no-one felt hurt as Beenie Man gave an outstanding performance that had the people waving, jumping and swaying. He brought out some fresh young talent and made the show sizzle even more, as these were young upcoming and amazing performers. There was Da Paw, who appeared to be no more than 15 years old, Trisha who looked no older than 6, as well as another infant named, Hypey; and all three tore up the place. Both infants were accompanied by their fathers, and Trisha’s song got great response as it touched on the topic of child molesters, a topic frequenting Jamaican newscasts these days.

Yardflex congratulates Laing and his production crew for once again pulling off one of the greatest and most anticipated shows on earth.

Surprise
I am enthusiastic about life!

To children, surprise may be their response to a fun party, an unexpected gift, or a new discovery. A surprise can be something fun, unforeseen, and new for me also.

At times I am so amazed by a turn of events that it leaves me feeling overjoyed and blessed. And when a situation turns out better than expected, I am delighted.

My feeling surprised about a good outcome is a kind of wake-up call for me to accept something wonderful. It jump-starts my feeling of enthusiasm for life and being thankful to God for it all.

Removing any limitations on the goodness of God, I welcome my blessings.

With quite a few American ‘drug war’ veterans whispering unsupportive stuff about ‘the high life’ in President elect Barack Obama’s ears, advocates for either legalizing, decriminalizing or legislating medical marijuana use, are super anxious about what is to come.

Well at least one writer believes decriminalization will come, but not until Obama’s second term and he states in the Esquire Newsletter, that the marijuana controversy closely resembles prohibition issues of days gone by.

Drawing reference to Franklin D Roosevelt (FDR) and his big move that saved the United States banking system back in the day, the journalist said FDR’s legalization of beer, soon after being elected could be likened to the reaction from placing a stick of dynamite inside a log jam. Stubborn blockages became cleared.

Clearing the way for less pile up of non-violent prisoners, as well as the path to boundless economic fortification; a move that would mimic stepping in the shoes of FDR within the 2008 context, could prove beneficial, but it is not as if Obama hasn’t considered and ultimately shelved the idea on easing up pot laws.

In fact he told Rolling Stone Magazine this summer that he believed in making a shift to a public health approach on the issue, “I would start with nonviolent first-time drug offenders. The notion that we are imposing felonies on them or sending them to prison, where they are getting advanced degrees in criminality, instead of thinking about ways like drug courts that can get them back on track in their lives - - it’s expensive, its counterproductive and it doesn’t make sense.”

Will boosting the economy by freeing up marijuana add up to dollars and ‘sense’ to Obama? Many are waiting to find out, following research reports from Harvard University that conclude, the legalization of marijuana would generate between US$10 and $14 billion in savings and taxes for that government each year. For this research paper entitled, “Budgetary Implications of Marijuana Prohibition,” Dr Jeffrey Miron of Harvard revealed that 300 top economists endorsed these conclusions.

Still, Camp Obama has remained steadfast in its response to the legalization of marijuana issue. They continue to say plainly, “President elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.” Moving this mountain will prove even more labor intensive for advocates, since at least two of Obama’s top people are drug war supporters, even though in 2004 the President elect himself said, the war on drugs had been an “utter failure” and that America should consider decriminalizing pot.

Definitely a point needing serious attention, as US jails have historically been and continue to be burdened and forced to cause an unnecessary stream of suffering as a result of marijuana related crimes for possession, that approximately 85,000 Americans are serving jail time for at this moment, according to reports.

Donovan Ricketts’ very impressive track record for goal defending as a number one football player in Jamaica has landed him the opportunity to join the LA Galaxy, that club announced on Tuesday.

The 31 year-old Reggae Boyz goalkeeper, who has immense experience at the international level, was the choice of a team led by Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach, Bruce Arena, who told Caribbean News, “I have known Donovan for a number of years as a goalkeeper with the Jamaican National Team and have always been impressed with his physical abilities both on and off the field. [He will fill] a position that we felt the need to improve and believe that he will be a great addition to our team and has the potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in the [US] Major league Soccer.”

At the age of 21, the 6ft 4in ‘power ball player’ was a member of Jamaica’s 1998 World Cup squad and boasts a notable 11-7-6 record in 24 World Cup qualifying games, that includes all 8 of the games Jamaica played recently for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Missing out on advancing to the final stages of the 2010 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign was tough since the Reggae Boyz lost that chance by a narrow margin this year. However, Ricketts did experience sweet victory with The Boyz after that, as he helped lead Jamaica to victory at the 2008 Digicel Caribbean Championships with a final defeat of Grenada at 2 – 0.

Hailing from Montego Bay, Rickets has represented Jamaica in 67 international games. He began his career, playing professionally for Jamaica’s F.C Waddadah club, before going on to Village United. In 2004 he moved to England and was signed with Bolton Wanderers of the English Premier League. Never playing a game for Bolton, his career saw him go on loan to League Two side Bradford City, who then signed him on a permanent basis at season’s end. After four years and appearances in over 115 games for this club, Ricketts returned to Jamaica and again signed with Village United.

All systems are on go for Ricketts who will be added to the Galaxy roster pending Visa and International Transfer Clearance, as per league and team policy. There has been no disclosure of contract details.

While experiencing heightened inner rage, a recent divorcee plotted and executed vicious murders at a Christmas Eve party being held at the home of his former in-laws in California.

The rejected ex, who had no history of violence or law breaking, reportedly went to the home of his ex-wife’s parents dressed up as Santa Clause and proceeded to kill at least 8 party goers, by gunshot and by a blaze that he started, before leaving and ending his own life.

Married for just about a year, the man identified by police as Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, reportedly knocked on the door to his in-laws home on Wednesday night at around 11:30pm and proceeded to shoot the 8 year-old girl who opened the door to let in Santa. She was shot in the face.

The 45 year-old, who was said to be livid about a divorce settlement handed down to him just last week, went on a shooting rampage, firing randomly at the close to 25 people present. His actions sent the guests scattering in what was described as a stampede-like state of panic as they attempted to escape from the house, located on a cul de sac in the quiet Covina neighborhood east of Los Angeles.

Police said, first there were gunshots, then Pardo began spraying the place with a strange homemade device that contained flammable liquid. The mayhem soon turned to a blazing and bloody confusion and investigators are still trying to figure out who died and how.

Still not sure if Pardo’s ex-wife or her parents were actually fatally injured, investigators returned to the scene today to sift through the ashes some more. On Thursday, after the fire was extinguished, two charred bodies were found in the living room area of the home and later on Christmas day, another five bodies were located. None of the dead or missing have yet been identified and only post mortems will determine whether the victims succumbed to gunshot wounds or the fire.

Witnesses told police that after the shooting, Pardo hastily took off the Santa gear, got into his car and drove off. He was later found dead from a single shot to his head at his brother’s house, about 25 miles away, police revealed in a press conference.

Condolences to the Dance fraternity and to the family of David Alexander Smith aka Ice. Ice was known for his famous dance "Gully Creepa".

There are speculating rumours circulating about the death of the dancer, but as soon as YardFlex gets an official report on the incident it will be posted immediately.

Sizzla Kalonji arrived in The Gambia on Sunday December 20 and was given a welcome fit for a hero as The Gambian President, Ministers of his Cabinet and many of the country’s citizens gave him a warm and hearty welcome.

Treated like a head of state himself, the reggae star was invited to the Juramba Farm of His Excellency, Alhaji Ya Yah Jammeh along with his entire entourage where Sizzla spent the day getting down and dirty as he experienced harvesting rice on a multi-acre rice field, exchanging agricultural expertise and discussing issues ranging from repatriation to reparation and education.

Committed to the philosophies and teachings of Rastafari, Sizzla’s interest in networking with key individuals, able to facilitate the Rastafarian goals, like getting the Diaspora to Gambia, became heightened on this visit.

He met with the Minister of Health, the Honorable Dr. Mbowe who facilitated a tour of the Royal Victoria Hospital where Sizzla gave support and showed love to those ailing there. Another official meeting took place with the Major General of The Gambian Army and Sizzla was presented with an award for his work. More important linkages were created when the Honorable Fatim Badjie, Minister of Information and Communication invited the reggae star to be chief guest at her wedding alongside the Vice President of The Gambia, Her Excellency Isatou Njie Saidy.

In the five days that Sizzla had to visit The Gambia, before his concerts, that are scheduled to start tonight, he was able to fulfill his aim of making solid connections as he began to carve a future in line with his Rastafarian reality.

Committing also to become a musical ambassador for The Gambia, Sizzla will serve as a bridge between the Gambia and the Diaspora. One of his main goals is to help the music industry there by building a studio for the youth. He has expressed the desire to become an honorary citizen and plans on helping with the schools, with building hospitals and assisting in other areas of The Gambia’s development.

Everywhere he went, Sizzla was greeted by hundreds of The Gambian community members, who flocked to get a glimpse of him and to touch his hands.

This will be Sizzla’s first performance in Africa and the shows will be held at the Independence Stadium on December 25th and 29th and at Brikama Mini Stadium on December 27th.

Members of Sizzla’s entourage include Firehouse Band, Jesse Jendah, Princess Menen, Bretts Promotion staff, Rebel T Music staff and Kalonji Records staff.

This Friday, Jamworld Center in Portmore is set to roar with the thunderous sounds of reggae and dancehall, as major DJs polish up their verbal arsenal in preparation for the lyrical tune wars also known as the ‘sting clash’.

Ready and rearing to go is Vybz Kartel, who is lyrically pumped and shaped up to inflict major damage. However Mavado who appears always itching to strike ‘Addi’ with his ‘Gully Rod’ is said to be ever ready and powered up, but questioning the logistics and hype, since he is may not be interested in having Sting ‘fall’ because of any possible dangerous altercation, lyrical or otherwise.

The two amazingly talented dancehall stars have been clashing lyrically for almost two years now and Sting 2008 is said to be the venue where both artists will settle the combative score once and for all. Dancehall fans worldwide are anxious about the upcoming ‘battle of the chops’, as it will not only prove to be highly entertaining, but also filled with suspense, as the play on words could shock each artist into blazing startling lyrical flames.

Promoters are ready for anything and plan to have very tight security at the show. Security measures may go as far as having barriers placed between Vybz Kartel and Mavado as they rock tune after tune.

But it is the ‘war zone type’ readiness that irks Mavado, who mentioned on a broadcast recently that he is not keen on the beefed up security, the expected virtual human wall of law enforcement officers, nor the barriers, dividers or cage idea that is being tossed around by promoters, who are guarding against the possibility that things could go overboard. Mavado stated on that recent programme that he knows nothing of a clash and had not been briefed by promoters abut any clash. He said, “if two artist a go clash den, and yuh waan barriers, cage and bare tings, den yuh know how dangerous it is ... . Yuh a boost clash, artist a go confront artist. Mi nuh know nuting 'bout dat ... mi nuh waan be di one who have the fall of Sting on my name."

Kartel told The Star recently that he is ready to defend his name on Friday, since he has been slandered for two years and has no choice in the matter but to ‘dun dem’.

Mavado is rumored to be lyrically geared up for the clash, even though he is showing an unwillingness to face that action. It has been reported that he avoided confrontation onstage with Kartel at a show in St Elizabeth. It is alleged that after Mavado lashed into Kartel lyrically he hastily exited the stage once Kartel mounted his defence.

Sting will be the day of decision that every avid dancehall fan will be sure not to miss.

It is that time of year again; and as Jamaican households prepare for the festive celebrations of Christmas, the kitchens invariably harbor a lingering and pleasant scent of sugar and spice and everything nice.

The food part of Christmas is oh so important and getting the flavors just right is an art envied by many, but the final products are always enjoyed by all.

There are Christmas ‘food customs’ that are strictly adhered to as the season springs, and this tradition of fixing plenty food with beverages to match, follows Jamaicans wherever their chosen adventurous roads lead them, throughout the world.

Christmas is not a one day celebration in Jamaica, as the yuletide spirit starts at the top of December and lingers through till the first week of January, with non-stop rolling out of delectable eats. Sharing the tasty dishes with friends and neighbors is a must and some folk look at it as showing off the culinary expertise of each household in a pleasant and joyful way.

There has been an unspoken rule however, when it comes to the Jamaican Christmas cake. Everyone bakes the same kind of cake, but no-one likes to pass the recipe on. All Christmas cake bakers tend to like their own unique flavor, but that buck stops here this year.

Yardflex will be sharing and we want you to also pass the information on after you have baked your delicious Jamaican Christmas cake and made the other scrumptious goodies laid out for you here.

Jamaican Christmas Cake
INGREDIENTS

450 grams soft margarine

450 grams dark sugar

4-6 medium eggs

6 cups flour

1 teaspoon mixed spice

4 teaspoon baking powder

2 teaspoons nutmeg

6 tablespoons browning

3 cups red wine

1 teaspoon vanilla

450 grams mixed fruits (currants, prunes, raisins, cherries)

Soak mixed fruit in alcohol for at least a month before baking. Longer soaking gives a stronger cake. Be sure to make a virgin – non-alcoholic cake for the kids and non drinkers.

PREPARATION

1 cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy

2 gradually beat in eggs one at a time

3 combine flour, mixed spice, baking powder, nutmeg

4 divide the flour mixture in three and liquid in two

5 fold the flour mixture into the cream mixture alternately with wine and fruits

6 stir in almond flavoring and vanilla

7 pour into a greased and lined baking tin. Bake for 1 1/2 hours at 180 degrees Celsius

8 allow cake to cool

Eggnog is a favorite drink during Christmas in Jamaica. An alternative to buying it at the grocery store, is making it from scratch yourself like this:

Egg Nog

INGREDIENTS

6 Eggs

2 cups Milk

1 cup Sugar

½ tsp. Grated Nutmeg

1 tsp. Vanilla Flavoring

1 tbsp. White Rum

PREPARATION

Separate yolks from eggs in a bowl and beat until the color changes, by this time the beaten yolks should be thick and fluffy. Before you beat the egg whites remove the little white things (we call them eyes) with a fork from the egg. We do this to cut down on the raw smell from the eggs. Now beat the whites until smooth.

Gradually add the rest of the ingredients to the yolks while beating. When you’re finished, put everything in an electric blender and beat again on the lowest cycle for 1 minute.

Chill and serve in small glasses with a pinch of nutmeg or add a touch of vanilla ice cream before chilling, for thickness.

One of the most delicious healthy and refreshing drinks served every Christmas in Jamaica, is Sorrell. Drawn like tea, this drink is made from the Sorrell plant that is beet red and filled with nutrients.

Jamaican Sorrel Recipe
INGREDIENTS
5 to 6 (1-inch) slices ginger

1 cup dried sorrel leaves

1 tablespoon cloves

Brown sugar

Red wine sherry, optional

PREPARATION
Let cut ginger sit for 2 to 3 hours. The longer it sits the stronger it becomes. Boil ginger in 2 quarts of water. Once water is boiling, add sorrel and cloves. Boil for a few minutes then let steep for 12 to 24 hours. Strain and add sugar and cloves. Alcohol can be added if desired, to taste. Chill and serve.

Offering their viewers an insight into alternative world views, Britain’s Channel 4 television station has traditionally hosted an alternative to the Queen’s Christmas Day Speech. This will be the 16th year that Channel 4 will be broadcasting the alternate message at Christmas and this year’s speaker is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose speech will be given in Farci with English sub-titles. Unlike previous years when the alternative messages were aired in the day around the same time as the Queen’s, this one will be broadcast during the night.

According to BBC world news, the very controversial speaker will be seen describing the general will of nations to viewers; and in his view that desire is to return to what he calls, “human values.”

Mr Ahmadinejad leads one of the most powerful states in the Middle East and he is extremely influential, Dorothy Byrne, head of Channel 4 news and current affairs explained. She told the BBC, “As we approach a critical time in international relations, we are offering our viewers an insight into an alternative world view.”

In his speech the prominent Middle East leader is said to congratulate the British as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, saying that society’s woes are historically caused from a population that frequently turns away from the teachings of the prophets of God, including Jesus.

He reportedly goes on to blame some governments and world powers for being indifferent in regards to the teachings of ‘the divine prophets’.

Holocaust center director, Stephen Smith of Newark, Nottinghamshire sees Mr. Ahmadinejad as deceptive in his speech, since his message of peace counters previous oppressive views of his. Smith cited the Iranian leader as having referred to the Holocaust as, “the myth of the Jews’ massacre” in December 2005 and as having supported the execution of gay people in Iran.

“In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country,” he told students at New York’s Columbia University last year, when questioned on the harsh treatment of gays in his country.

Ben Summerskill, director of Stonewall, a gay rights group in Britain has actually found some good in having such a divisive speaker give the alternative Christmas message. He reportedly said that the Iranian leader should celebrate his chance at being able to speak freely without repression, in spite of his often offensive and ridiculous views. “It is an important way of reminding him that there are some countries where free speech is not repressed.

Channel 4’s first alternative message was delivered in 1993 by Quentin Crisp, a gay man. Others to have experienced giving the alternative Christmas message have been: Bridgett Bardot, former X-Factor Judge, Sharon Osbourne and Major Andrew Stockton, a British soldier who lost an arm fighting in Afghanistan.

Earlier this month a Catholic priest in a city in northern Italy came under fire from parents who were upset that he told their children there was no Father Christmas.

It was at a mass for children that the parish priest, Father Dino Bottino spoiled the fun for their kids, the moms and dads lamented.

The priest is from The Sacred Heart Church in Novora, and according to BBC news, a local paper ran complaints sent in by many of the offended parents. “You’ve ruined my children’s Christmas,” one mom is reported to have said.

Father Bottino was unapologetic nonetheless and stated it was his duty to tell the children the reality. He said, “I told the children that Father Christmas was an invention and he had nothing to do with the Christian Christmas story. And I would repeat it again if I had the chance.”

Not only did Father Bottino dash dreams of the Italian Father Christmas to the wind for the children, he also informed them of the non-existence of the kindly witch called Befana, who provides presents on January 6 to Italian children.

The good father had no idea the great amount of scorn that he would have to face, but he felt justified in differentiating fables like Cinderella – which is how he considers the story of Father Christmas - from the reality of Jesus.

The second annual Reggae Film Festival (RFF) is just around the corner, as it will all unfold on February 23 to 27 2009 at Emancipation Park in Kingston and at other venues. The unique festival is a project of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports and it is presented by the Jamaica Film Academy.

With a continued focus on screening new and old documentary and feature films that have as their central theme or soundtrack, the pulsating Reggae beat of Jamaica, this year’s festival will have an extra added touch.

New features will include live reggae concerts each night, screening during the daytime and an introduction of downloads of selected films.

Keeping in line with the objectives of the Jamaica Film Academy, the RFF also serves to encourage, writers, film makers and all associated souls to enhance their creativity in the world of film.

Three major films have been entered in the festival, they are: Made In Jamaica, a documentary on Jamaican music history; What Goes Around, a romantic tale that features ‘Gully God’ Movado, who plays himself and Babylon, a British based flick filled with music and social commentary.

There will be artistic features to please everyone during the upcoming RFF, including a scriptwriting seminar and a special segment that incorporates an exciting side competition.

A ‘Make a Film in 24 Hours” competition will be a new intriguing part of the festival activities and it is open to both amateurs and professional film-makers from Jamaica. Competitors will start at 6:00am in the morning and at 6:00amon the following morning, everyone will be asked to hand in their completed films of any length or subject.

The RFF will surely be as exciting as it was in its inaugural year and while film ‘buffs’ get ready for it, the Jamaica Film Academy continues to encourage all film makers who want their films shown to go to www.jamaicafilmacademy.org so they can download the entry form and get their films in.

REGGAE CAMP FIRE is back and promises to be “reddd hottt!. The annual event takes place on Wednesday December 31, 2008 at the Windalco Sports Complex, Ewarton St. Catherine. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.

Macy Gray, will be joining Shaggy on the Jamaica House lawn on January 3, 2009, for the kick off fundraiser of the New Year. The 41 year-old singer, producer and actress is keen on taking part in this effort that is slated to benefit The Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The brainchild of Grammy Award winner and 2009 nominee, ‘Mr. Lover Lover’ himself, the show is expected to facilitate the garnering of much needed funds for Kingston’s ‘Children’s Hospital’. Earlier this year Shaggy decided to throw the money gathering shin-dig, since it was heart-wrenching for him to see children in dire need of treatment and care that is available but not attainable because of low medical care budgets.

The concert is expected to raise enough money to acquire equipment that can save lives and put sick children and their parents at ease. The Bustamante Hospital for Children has the finest specialists, but if it is not operating in line with modern scientific and technical advancement, then most attempts at healing will be futile. Recognizing this grim and harsh reality, Shaggy threw himself into ‘Save The Children’ mode.

Macy Gray did not hesitate in accepting Shaggy’s invitation, as she too is no stranger to philanthropic involvement. Gray, who became a huge success in 1999 after her debut album, “On How Life Is’ sold over three million copies, has given back to her community through raising money for Habitat for Humanity and by creating the Macy Gray Music Academy for needy children, among other endeavors.

The raunchy voiced naturalist, is coming out with a new album soon, that she describes as ‘eclectic beats, organic and soulful’. She may perform songs from this upcoming album, at the ‘Shaggy and Friends’ fundraiser; but rest assured that Macy Gray definitely will be performing in discreet and fine style, as she has no intention of having a repeat performance of her Barbadian mishap, when profane language on stage put her in a bit of hot water with Bajan law.

Counterfeit Jamaican money has become a serious problem for retailers in the Downtown Kingston area and police have raised concerns about the circulation of these notes in the commercial region at this time.

According to reports from The Star, Special Inspector, Joseph Donaldson from the Darling Street Police Station said, it has been three weeks since the phony money has been around and police intelligence has determined that more than one person is responsible.

It is suspected that a team is on the prowl and they are approaching unsuspecting vendors with bills that look very much like the real thing.

According to police, attempts are also being made to recruit citizens, who are being offered stacks of the fake bills, and asked to liquidate them.

Not only are vendors on the alert, but some shoppers have reported that they too are at risk, with people claiming they have been given false money as change.

Being extra careful is the key during this holiday season. As one vendor, Lloyd Hunt, told The Star, "More time mi woulda tek all a five bills (a $500 note) and jus pocket it, mi cyaa run dem risk deh now cause a whole heap a people a get trick, when mi get dem mi look pon dem all 50 different time."

So if you are out and about to pick up last minute gifts and festive finery, be sure to check your money real good.

Glory to God
With joy and appreciation, I praise God.
I may not be able to explain the many wonders of God I see, but I enthusiastically accept them. I notice countless expressions of divinity, both large and small, offering transformation as they extend out to others with love and giving. The joy in a child's face, a mother's embrace, or a friend's willingness to help all leave me overflowing with awe.

Not only these outer expressions but also my own inner feelings increase my awareness of Spirit. My inner peace expands and sweetens as I become more aware of God's ever-present love and guidance within me.
As joyfully as choirs of angels heralded the birth of the Christ child, I offer my praise as I proclaim "Glory to God."

Interviewed by police then released, Bounty Killer was a person of interest in a reported shooting incident that occurred on Old Hope Road in Kingston last week Friday morning.

Reports state that the top dancehall DJ whose real name is Rodney Price was with his lawyers during the interview and that no charges were filed against him. Another man, David Channer, was also interviewed and released by police.

According to reports, the DJ and the other man were going along Old Hope Road, in close proximity to Jamaica College; and their vehicle was allegedly being driven in a dangerous manner.

Another car was driving near the DJ’s and it was being driven by a man whose female passenger was known to Bounty Killer.

This was reportedly around 4:00am. Shortly after, it has been alleged that shots were believed to have come from the DJ’s car, resulting in the occupants of the other car panicking.

In a state of confusion the other car sped off and crashed, leaving no-one seriously injured. Following a report made to the police the DJ and Channer were called in for questioning.

This year saw reggae artists teaming up with many music industry greats from other genres to bless the world with some of the most hard hitting and memorable sounds.

March 2009 will see the release of another slamming link up – this time it will be between reggae royals, Damian & Stephen Marley and Carole Cole, daughter of the late great Nat King Cole. Cole and the Marleys have embarked on an album project titled, “Re: Generation” that will feature various Reggae, Latin, HipHop and R & B stars on collaborated tracks with ‘The Late King’ himself.

As was the case with “Unforgetable,” the spliced re-mix with Nathalie Cole and Dad, this album will be an eclectic mirroring, featuring Nat King Cole’s extensive catalogue. Artists on collaborated tracks with the legendary Cole include Amp Fiddler, Nas and Bel Gilberto.

“Re-Generation” will be distributed by Capito/EMI and has been described by another of the King’s daughters, Sarah Cole as a musical bridge that has created a deep connection. She expressed hope, in a statement, that the project will inspire continued musical intergenerational dialogue.

Sarah stated, “We have no doubts that if Nat were here today, he would embrace all of the artists on this record as well as the ones we were unable to get next to. He would want to produce them and encourage them to leave their own indelible mark on the cultural landscape. And as a bonafide music lover, Dad would buy their music and be a loyal fan."

YouTube is no longer the place to go if you feel like having a listen to Warner Music Group artists. Following recent failed negotiations with Google, the owners of YouTube, the music conglomerate pulled all their videos from the popular video sharing website.

Artists like, Diddy, Missy Elliot, and Lupe Fiasco have been yanked; and their videos taken off YouTube makes up a reported 20 percent of the market.

In a statement, Warner Music said they are working to find a resolution with YouTube that would help get their artists’ content back on the site. The label said, "Until then, we simply cannot accept terms that fail to appropriately and fairly compensate recording artists, songwriters, labels and publishers for the value they provide."

MTV and MySpace still carry Warner Music Group videos.

On February 17, 2009 VP Records will release 18 tracks of crucial hits titled, “Energy God: The Very Best of Elephant Man.”

The death toll continues to rise with two more added to the list of murders since the start of the 2008. On Tuesday, at approximately 6:30am, the bodies of Marvin Bloomfield, 32 and Delroy Smith, 31, both of Watson Grove, Caymanas, St. Catherine were discovered with multiple stab and chop wounds in the trunk of a gray Nissan Vanette in Rema, St. Andrew.
Approximately 1,543 people have been murdered since the beginning of 2008 with the numbers likely to increase and surpass the 1,574 recorded for 2007.
There is concern, however, that women and children continue to make up a significant portion of the number murdered each month with police data reflecting that nine children and seven women were among the 122 people killed in November.
Government has suggested tough legislation to tackle the increasing crime rate in the island by proposing to increase the number of days a suspect can be detained without bail to 60.
This bill has created controversy and was opposed by human-rights advocates and some lawyers. The proposal has been returned to the joint select committee of parliament for consideration, without a signature from the Opposition People's National Party.

A 31 year old mason, Leon Rogers, from downtown Kingston was granted $50,000 bail and had his fingerprints ordered taken after appearing before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown on Monday, after he was arrested and charged for having sex with a 15 year old with whom he had a relationship.
It is alleged that on the day in question the complainant went to Rogers's house during a school break. The police then went to the accused house where Rogers and the teen were caught having sex.
Preliminary enquiries are scheduled to begin on February 20

Orlando Blake appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown on Tuesday, to answer to charges of assault and malicious destruction of property after it was alleged that he attacked the complainant for cutting down his June Plum tree.
Blake claims that the complainant had in the past also cut down a tree belonging to his grandfather and upon arriving home and realising that the complainant had cut down his tree he approached him and a struggle ensued.
The complainant claims that Blake destroyed his door, diving goggles and snorkel. Blake, however, explained that the door was destroyed during the struggle, as the complainant had pulled a fishing gun on him and he was trying to avoid getting shot.
Blake said that the complainant's injuries were minor cuts from the gun.
He will appear in court on January 21.

The Consumers Affair Commission in collaboration with the Road Safety Unit made the following recommendations that parents should adhere to when purchasing a bicycle for their child:
- Parents should make sure that when sitting on the bicycle child's feet can touch the ground, otherwise the bicycle is too big for the child and this can be hazardous.
- Parents should invest in a helmit and knee pads as these will protect the child in case of a fall.
- Ten speed bicycles are NOT recommended as small children may not be strong enough to manipulate those brakes in case they need to stop suddenly. Coaster brakes would be best.
- Bicycles should have a bell and reflectors.
- Training wheels are recommended for children who are still learning to ride.
- Parents should educate the child about safety on the streets.

The CAC also recommends that parents instill rules and guidelines for riding especially on the streets:
- No riding on busy streets.
- No playing on the street.
- No riding at night.
- Never leave the neighbourhood.
- Give time limit.
- Let child know when time is about to expire.

As research shows that most bicycle accidents occur from falls, collisions with other cyclists, stationary objects and pedestrians the CAC recommends that:
- Parents never allow children to ride outdoors during bad weather.
- Parents supervise children at all times.
- Parents provide other fun forms of entertainment when riding time expires.
- Encourage child to adhere to the riding schedule so that they will never ride off without parents knowledge.
- Let children know that riding can make them a target for predators.
- Deprive children of the privilege if they disobey instructions.

55 year old David Nugent, a man said to be of unsound mind, has been charged with three counts of wounding with intent.

It is alleged that on Monday morning, three siblings, including 10 year old Shaday Wilson, were catching water at a pipe in the quiet fishing community of Portland Cottage in Clarendon, when the children decided to ask 'Shorty' who was approaching on a bicycle to carry the water for them.

According to Shaday's statement 'Shorty' jumped off his bicycle, pulled his machete and started to chop. She said "We ran into the bushes and mi brother drop and him start chop up mi brother then him turned to mi sister and start chop her up."

Her brother 13 year old Dwayne Wilson and 11 year old Samantha Wilson were both hospitalised in serious condition.

It is alleged that Nugent had chopped another man in the community earlier.

Reggae Boyz coach John Barnes and captain Tyrone Marshall were ecstatic about winning the Digicel Caribbean Championship, Sunday night at the National Stadium, where they defeated Grenada 2-0 in the finals.

Coach Barnes said that it was a great feeling and the guys played a wonderful tournament...

Tyrone Marshall said that not having qualified for the World Cup, he was aware that support was not going to be the best, but this win has restored some respect for the team.

The Grenadian's player/coach and captain, Anthony Modeste said that they are proud of their achievements, even though they lost, they don't feel like losers. Modeste is also captain of Digicel Premier League champions, Portmore United. He thanks Digicel for organising a wonderful tournament as well as Captain Burrel and the JFF (Jamaica Football Federation). Modeste also congratulates Barnes and Marshall saying that they are worthy champions.

The Boyz will now be focusing their attention to the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will be held in the USA next year.

Jamaica's Prime Minister Bruce Golding, has announced a plan to give aid to small businesses and the tourism industry. This, he claims will boost the island's economy. The planned package includes tax cuts and loans of up tp $6.7 million from Jamaica's Development Bank to help the tourism industry with their cash flow problems. Mr. Golding says that these measures will improve the country's bauxite industry which is stuggling to stay above water as demand for the chief ore in aluminum has plunged.
He also has plans to initiate job retraining programs as well as to formulate methods to reduce or suspend motgage payments for the unemployed. On Sunday night's broadcast he reassured the population that "We are going to weather the storm."

An off duty police officer foiled a robbery attempt on Windward Road on last Saturday by surprising a young gun toting robber by pulling his service pistol.

Reports from The Star state that the off duty policeman stopped to chat with a friend in the East Kingston area at about 9:15am, when he was approached by an armed man.

The man, who brandished his weapon, demanded money from both men.

At this moment, the off duty policeman pulled out his own gun and became ingaged in a shootout, during which the assailant was shot. The robber, who was later identified as 20 year-old Lemard Campbell of Rushden Road in Kingston 2 was pronounced dead on arrival at the Kingston Public Hospital. A 9mm Beretta firearm was found in his possession with five rounds of ammunition.

Rising Star artistes Cameal Davis and Khalil both first and second place finishers in the 2008 Digicel Rising Star Competition thrilled several thousand fans in Sam Sharpe Square Montego Bay, at the St. James parish council’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony recently.

Khail is a group of five Montegonian singers and they called on Mixing Lab to entertain the audience with his soulful voice. Group members also called on a female, who they serenaded, to the satisfaction of the over 6,000 fans in the square.

Cameal Davis closed the show with an incredible presentation. Master of Ceremonies, Bryan Brown of Coral Cliff Fame kept the entire proceedings moving at a steady pace, to the delight of all in attendance

St James High wins D-Cup Championship

St. James High School in Montego Bay was crowned DaCosta Cup Champions on Saturday December 13, 2008, when they defeated Spaulding High 2-0.

Goals from Nicolie Barrett and Allan Ottey were enough to give the team their second trophy of the season, after capturing the Ben Francis Cup. Over 8,000 spectators looked on in earnest as St. James High remained mainly on the attack through their prolific strikers Barrett and Ottey.

A confident Hugh Solomon, coach of the St. James High Team, said his main aim now is to win the Oliver Shield two way final on Wednesday December 17, 2008, in Kingston and on December 20 at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay; with both legs being played against St. Georges.

Allan Ottey of St. James High is set to receive the Golden Boot award based on his consistent goal scoring ability.

Fans Enjoy Oldies in Montego Bay

A small sized crowd turned out to enjoy the Jus Jammins Oldies show on Saturday December 13 and all enjoyed themselves immensely. The event saw a slight drizzle of rain, but this did no impede the artistes, who all appeared in their glory reeling out their many hits of the past.

First up was Admiral Tibet, then Tinga Stewart, Peter Metro, Frankie Paul and Little John closed the show. Promoter Sterolarge despite loosing, was pleased with the performances, and he is looking forward to January for his next event.

Since the release of Aidonia's song, "Matic Nah Laugh" last week, rumours have been circulating that there is a rift between himself and Vybz Kartel, which he vehemently denies, "There is no rift between me and Kartel. The song post on-line and since, people a tell me seh Kartel and me a war. Me and Kartel have nutten..."

It is rumoured that the lyrics of the song "dissed" Kartel. However, Aidonia suggested that the listeners need 'hearing aid' as the lyrics they claim to have heard are not the lyrics of the song. He claims to have made no lyrical reference to Kartel.

When contacted, Kartel expressed surprise, "That is news to me." he stated.

Aidonia also denied another rumour that he had a physical altercation with Portmore Empire's Blak Ryno, where Kartel attempted to hit Aidonia in defence of Blak Ryno, by saying, "That is so false. There's nutten between me and Ryno..." He also noted that he and Ryno are the headliners for an upcoming show in Montego Bay.

Aidonia has suggested that there are persons who want to create disharmony between himself and Kartel in preparation for the upcoming Sting stage show, and would like them to stop and "Don't create nuh vibe caw dem know who Vybz Kartel caan 'gree wid," he said.

In the meantime he says that he is busy in the studio voicing new songs and making preparations for his upcoming tour and Spring 2009 album release.

Moses "Beenie Man" Davis is happy with the birth of his first grandchild, born to his 17 year old daughter last Sunday in Florida. He says that he plans to be a loving and doting grandfather and play an active role in both their lives.

Amidst controversy surrounding her pregnancy Deesha Gaye gave birth at seven months to a five pounds seven ounces baby girl in Florida, where she has been staying with relatives in her father's house.

The proud grandfather is adamant that his granddaughter's surname be registered as Davis until the father comes forward. He, however, does not like the name Destiny that Desha Gaye has chosen as the infant's christian name and plans to have her change it.

The Jamaica AIDS Prevention unit has secured an arrangement with GT Taylor, which will see patrons at his upcoming Christmas Extravaganza being able to access critical information and services in the fight against HIV/AIDS. According to Diana Johnson of The AIDS Prevention Unit, the aim is to reach out to persons who fall into the risk category "whenever and wherever they can". The event, which takes place on Thursday December 25 is a wholesome Christmas celebration embracing many aspects of social life in St. Elizabeth, and as such has invited the unit to deliver their messages in the dancehall setting.

Gary Dixon, Brand Manager of Title sponsor Magnum Tonic Wine explained, "AIDS is an epidemic in our society and Magnum supports any initiative to protect and educate the society about it. The dancehall is a great place to be as it has such a myriad of people from a variety of social backgrounds. Magnum will continue to give patrons the energy when it's needed most, but is also committed to assisting with their social development."

The general age group of expected patrons at the event happens to coincide with the target group of the Unit which has been working to educate the populace about the advent of HIV in Jamaica. "That particular population is our target, 16 - 24 and 25 - 49 years", Ms Johnson said. "The groups are selected to have intervention to reduce the spread of HIV/STI's wherever we can reach them - that's what we do. If we can reach them in the dance hall or we can reach them at a football match or in church we try to reach them" she explained.

The Unit was approached by Taylor to participate in keeping with his continuing drive to employ the Magnum Extravaganza as a tool for community development and social intervention. The Unit will have a booth where interested persons may speak to a team of trained persons come December 25. "We will be educating through one to one talks, condom demonstration and risk assessment. Risk assessment involves questions being are asked and based the responses persons are told whether or not they are at risk," Ms. Diana Johnson said." Based on the outcome of these lifestyle assessments persons will be provided assistance for further support such as counseling and HIV Testing. Condoms will also be distributed.

The Magnum GT Taylor Extravaganza scheduled for Thursday December 25 has not only survived the seasons cropping of major showcases, but will be making charitable donations to entities in the St. Elizabeth and neighboring communities.

Moved by the promoter's initiative, Magnum brand manager, Gary Dixon also got bit by the giving bug. "To show our solidarity with GT we are donating $10 from every Magnum sold at the event," he pledged. "As title sponsors we see this as a worthy cause from the promoter. This is GT's thing - he is giving back to his community and we support the effort wholeheartedly. We have been on board three years now and each year the event improves. The third staging of Tempo in The Bahamas was an event ‘that could have been missed’, since despite some riveting performances, there was a ‘vibes shortage’ and an even smaller crowd. Just like the cold front facing the region lately, the temperature at this show was just as low, with only about 500 people in attendance. Ending at 6:30 am with Luciano singing to no more than 50 patrons, Tempo definitely slowed down considerably this year.

The little crowd did bubble though, as Tessane Chin and Ce’Cile worked the stage nicely in the early hours. Their interactive performances got the audience in the groove; and one fan got on stage to try to ‘bubble’ with Ce’Cile. As the Bahamians would put it - the man “held on pan de ass.”

Jaheim of Freeport, Bahamas had the audience singing along when he delivered his slamming tunes like, “Wickedest Time” and Ziggy Rankin from Trinidad & Tobago kept them rocking with his hit, “Tired of This Miserable Life.” The Tempo anthem, “Badness Out A Style,” was delivered by Mr. King.

Although giving her usual smashing all and her beautiful dancers who wooed the crowd, Allison Hinds just stayed on stage too long. Audience members could be heard mumbling a little, as the clock was ticking and they wanted to be able to see more of the hot acts. Most of the male audience members were quite at ease at the same time; as their eyes were fixated on the dancers, who held it down to the maximum degree.

Mr. Vegas and his team, consisting of Spragga ‘the Benz’, Timberlee and Mr. Lexx certainly gave the crowd what they came there for with excellent performances. Mr. Vegas was the undisputed highlight of the entire event, as he opened up with an impressive gospel segment, then laced the area with his own hits on top of hits.

Spragga Benz was then called on stage and the entire place ‘tun ova’ with two powerhouses on stage. Like a rhythmic chain reaction Spragga introduced Timberlee, another link, who tore up the stage before bringing on Mr. Lexx; topping off a set that was smooth and well executed. This team gave Tempo the ‘flavor’ it needed, especially as Mr. Vegas’ dancers got saucy in their instructions of how to do the ‘Hot Wuk’.

A Jamaican country doctor running a clinic in Mocho wanted to take a day off work to go into Kingston, so he called his dispenser to take over.

"Obediah, ah have to go to Kingston today, but ah want you to keep the clinic open; just in case any patients come in. Yuh tink you cyan handle it?"

"Yes, sah, yes sah!" answered Obediah, thrilled to be put in charge.

The following day, the doctor returned to work. He asked Obediah, "So how tings went yesterday?"

"I had was to treat t'ree patients," said Obie proudly.

"De fuss one seh 'im have a bad 'eadache, so mi give 'im two Tylenol."

A charitable donation from the proceeds of ‘Rhythm and Booze’ will be made to the National Youth Service (NYS). Onel Williams chose that charity where he is a mentor and he said, “Many young people have great ideas, but no direction or opportunities so we want to help them expand.”

The first Rhythm and Booze was held on February 21, 2004 at Curphey Place and it was then a drink inclusive party with 1200 patrons. The event is now staged three times yearly: March Soca season, Summer (ATI) and Christmas. The first all-inclusive edition was held December 2007 at the Curphey Place, which they have now outgrown. The most recent Rhythm and Booze was held in ATI Negril Summer 2008 and had over 3000 patrons. Clearing negative thoughts from my mind is much like removing grime from a window. Just as washing away a film on glass allows a clearer view and welcomes the warmth of sunlight, prayer helps me gain clarity and become centered in the warmth of God's love. Removing cluttered thinking is a sure way to let go and let the love of God shine on my circumstances.
Quiet times of prayer allow me to focus on the affirmative and to be open to God's guidance. In these moments, I relax as I breathe. With each breath, I trust divine love to show me a more positive view of my life and its unfolding events. This time of release steadies me and assures me that continued, limitless blessings are mine. I let go and let God's love fill my life in marvelous ways.

In this village some girls are very stupid! Hey Pamputae!!! That line is easily one of the most popular ones in the dancehall arena at this time and, it is because of one of the genres newest stars, Eveana Henry, known also as Pamputae.

Hailing from Fletchers Land, one of Jamaica's toughest ghetto communities, she has emerged with a familiar raunchy lyrical flow and content, manifested through her singles, "Good Gold," "Goody Good," and "No Lovy Dovie" - songs which have all connected well with the hardcore lovers of Dancehall music.

The rising sensation has become such a hot commodity in the customarily rough 'n' tumble industry that her name is even linked to rumors of a rivalry with longstanding icon, Buju Banton. In recent times, Buju has been heard using Pamputae's second hot slang, "They are all up in the Kool Aid and dem nuh know di flavour!" The slang highlights the inability of some women to display the sensual prowess to be a consistent talking point amongst males.

What Pamputae has done is to take courage from the occasion that an international icon like Buju Banton finds her slang effective enough to use it. "Although Buju has never given me recognition as being the originator of the slang, I have taken encouragement from the fact that he of all persons is using it," Pamputae reasoned.

The manner that she has dealt with this controversy seems to be synonymous with her character. The 23-year-old dropped out of school after getting pregnant; however, she said she never lost sight of her dreams and aspirations. The song "Goody Good" she said, is testimony of how she remained focused and maintained her self-esteem. "I voiced that song because every woman is good. Some men do not appreciate us women, but regardless of our faults, without us humans would become extinct."

She added, "I lost my mother at age 10 and my big sister age 11, but instead of having 10 babies I only made the mistake once, and have been taking good care of the one child. Things could have been worst with me, but I kept focused."

She loves watching African movies in her spare-time, and that's where her current slang derives, "In this village some girls are very stupid! Hey Pamputae!!!

She confesses her love for music and says she will only continue working towards becoming the best musical ambassador she can.

The Reggae Boyz came away from their recent feature game of the Group A double-header with a 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago, giving them a sure spot in the upcoming Digicel Caribbean semi-finals. Held at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium, the draw placed Jamaica at the top of the four-team group with seven points, while Trinidad & Tobago became eliminated after having losing twice and wining only once.

Second place in the group went to Grenada’s ‘spicey’ players, who beat Barbados 4-2, securing them a spot in next year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, along with Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz.

Head coach John Barnes came down hard on his team saying, "I am not happy with the performance but I am happy we are in the semi-final. This is the worse we have played as we did not pass the ball well and we did not play with the intensity we showed against Barbados and we did not play with any tactical discipline."

Eric Vernan did strike again though, with his second goal in as many matches, putting Jamaica in the lead at the 47th minute. His shot flew past both a defender and the right upright before landing in the goal. Trinidad &Tobago’s top striker, Errol McFarlane came forward in the 81st minute with the level drawing goal.

Fertility treatment has put 70 year old Raja Devi from India into the spotlight and world record book for the moment. Reports from the UK Telegram revealed that the oldest woman to conceive and give birth did so on November 28th after 50 years of marriage; surpassing the former record for the oldest new mom who was a 67 year-old Spanish woman who had twins in 2006.

Both mother and child are in good health.

Devi and her 72 year-old husband Bala Ram were childless before the birth of their daughter that was facilitated by Doctor Anurag Bishnoi, of the Hisar fertility centre in Haryana state, who said the treatment and embryo transfer was done on April 19 this year.

Bala Ram is especially overjoyed as he was desperate to have a child; and after 10 years of marriage to Devi, who could not conceive, he went ahead and married her sister in the hopes of getting her pregnant. However, his second wife had the same issue of infertility and so the couple turned to modern science for help.

No longer seen as a taboo or divine curse, infertility is treatable, said Dr. Bishnoi, who praised scientific breakthroughs. Rajo Devi is the first woman in her seventies to give birth, who had never conceived before, he said.

Devi told reporters, “We longed for a child all these years and now we are very happy to have one in the twilight years of our life.”

Her husband Ram is not concerned about who would take care of the child if they passed on. He said, "The upbringing of the child is not a problem. We have a joint family as is common in rural Haryana."

Feeling completely relieved now, the couple say they will no longer have to face social stigma for not having brought children into the world.

On November 30, 2008 following their arrival in Barbados on a flight from Jamaica, 20 women were treated with contempt and unfairness, according to reports from The Star.

The women said they were searched extensively and have claimed sexual abuse took place in the process, as immigration officials at the Barbadian airport touched the private parts of their bodies during what has been described as a grueling ordeal.

None of the passengers from Jamaica felt the steps taken were warranted as they fulfilled all the legal requirements to be admitted into Barbados as bona fide vacationers. However, the Barbadian authorities didn’t see it that way.

Accusing the women of being possibly drug importers law enforcement put them through the wringer even though they had valid passports and return tickets – the two requirements for admission into Barbados as a visitor. Furthermore they had no drugs, or they would have remained in Barbadian custody.

In The Star report, one women explained that the police approached them and exclaimed, “mi hear say you have drugs…” and when she denied it, he asked her, “so how you so fat?”

After what the women called in depth interrogation, search, assault and disgrace, they were told that they would be sent back to Jamaica on the next flight in the morning,

The women were detained overnight and reportedly denied certain necessities of life like the right to proper hygiene. Devastated, one woman described the entire incident as a nightmarish ordeal, as they were cramped into a small cell with no place for everyone to lay their heads.

Claiming they were treated like dogs, the women had no idea why this treatment was meted out to them.

Bajan authorities are not responding to requests for information on this matter.

Dancehall great, Mr. Vegas lost his father, Kenneth Maitland to a sudden illness on December 2, 2008, marking the end of a great bond for the number one artist.

There was immense love between father and son that was particularly meaningful for Mr. Vegas, since Kenneth Maitland stepped into his life during his childhood after his biological father left. Playing the key role of father to Mr. Vegas and his brother, Kenneth Maitland was described by the singer as kind, humble and encouraging.

“I have many fond memories of my father…and sincerely regret not being able to spend time with [him] because of my busy schedule…his death comes at a critical time in my life,” Mr. Vegas said in a statement.

Kenneth Maitland who was a carpenter is also survived by his wife and son.

In his earnest efforts to comfort his mother, Mr. Vegas has written the song, “Mama Don’t Cry,” in the hopes of easing her pain in this tough time.

Nikki Z has blooped and blundered her way off the airwaves once again with a slip of the disc…so to speak.

Reports state that the regularly ‘bright-haired’ articulate and popular radio show host played a song that contained profane language during a recent segment of her 6:00am to 10:00am music programme. The song in question is by dancehall artist Munga Honorable and in it he clearly says the words: “F**k out har p*ssy til it red.

A little harsh for the general population’s ears, according to Nikki’s management at ZIP FM who went about correcting the breach in their broadcast policies by airing apologies throughout the day in question.

Prior to this, Nikki Z found herself in similar ‘hot water’ and was given an indefinite suspension. Her fate for the most recent controversial mistake is not yet known.

It seems to be one thing after the other for this first rate radio selector who was also recently given extended bail for possession of ganja. Her real name is Nicole Duhaney and on February 6, 2009 she will return to Magistrates Court for another hearing on the herb charge.

Robert “Rapidfire” Bogle, known to most of his friends as “Bogle” passed away recently in hospital following a life long battle with sickle cell anemia. Not to be confused with the already deceased dancehall artist, Bogle, the 32 year-old was best friend, road manager and assistant to Da’Ville and the Fashozy Records team.

Fashozy Records issued a statement expressing condolences and saying, “Bogle was the right hand man to the singer [Da’Ville] from the earliest days of his musical career until now and he shall be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

Described as a joy to be around Bogle was laid back pleasant and helpful to all. The statement said, “It was impossible to be in his presence without wanting to smile.”

Sickle Cell Anemia is a genetic disease of the blood and primarily affects people of African or Caribbean descent. As a result of its hereditary nature children should be tested almost routinely or particularly in the case where the disease was at some time, present in a family.

On ‘Saturday December 6 the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will be hosting the traditional Jamaica Band & Jonkunno Festival at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.

At 10am the three part festival will kick off with the staging of the 2008 Kiddies Jonkunno Competition.

The second leg of the event begins at 3:00pm when the School’s Mento Band Competition will get going; and it all culminates with the inaugural National Band Competition that starts at 5:00pm.

And of course Jonkunno time means Christmas time is in the air, therefore a major part of the entertainment will include a Christmas Brunch. Live performances , a Christmas Gift Village and many other activities are planned.

‘Bring Back The Love’ was a night of pure joy for Toronto’s reggae lovers, who were blessed with vintage niceness when Marcia Griffiths, Gregory Isaacs and Barrington Levy shared the stage recently. The Sound Academy on Polson Street carried a huge crowd of about 2,400 who came also to celebrate the earthstrong of reggae queen, Marcia Griffiths.

No-one was disappointed that evening as the venue bubbled with interactive energy with patrons and artists feeding off each others’ excitement. Generating thunderous applauses, the three icons, who have always been prominent as some of Jamaica’s most prolific cultural exports, represented their genre well.

Tributes flowed freely and emotions ran high, as the pleasure of ringing in another year on earth for one-third of the I Threes, coincided with musicians and crowds also honoring the late great former Torontonian, Alton Ellis.

"I like to be home for my Birthday with my family. Toronto is the only place that can get me to perform on my special day,” a classically clad Griffiths said to her ecstatic fans following her performance that had them rocking, rolling and virtually roaring. Augmenting her beauty with a gorgeous white gown, embroidered in black, the earthday girl rolled through hit after hit; and the crowd became a united chorus. Choreographing the famous moves to go with “The Electric Slide”, Griffiths had everyone including top promoter Copeland Forbes doing the dance in unison.

Mr. Smooth Cool Gregory Isaacs delighted patrons with round two of reggae thrills for that night. Hundreds of couples clutched each other as they grooved to the sounds of tunes like, “Night Nurse” and “My Number One.” No stranger to Toronto and always a crowd pleaser, Gregory certainly he celebration in the place.

Barrington Levy came out saying, “I’m in the building” and the crowd went completely beserk. Definitely the man of the moment, Levy continued the hard hitting vibe singing crowd favorites like, “Prison Oval Rock,” “Living Dangerously” and “Too Experienced.”

California based Detour Band backed Levy and he gave a tight set that was plain excellent. Not used to seeing Levy too often, Toronto fans went on and on screaming for several encores.

A woman from the Ohio, Indiana, Michigan Tri-State area lays critically ill at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, after being shot by her husband who says it happened while they were having sex.

Springfield police said that 38 year-old Timothy Havens alleged he was reaching over to the nightstand to get something when his gun went off by accident, injuring his estranged wife in her chest.

The 42 year-old Carolyn Havens had previously taken out a civil protection order against Timothy and he was arrested in violation of that order after the weekend shooting. In fact trouble has hovered over the Havens for some time, with court documents showing Timothy spent 60 days incarcerated for assaulting Carolyn. He was also ordered to take classes in anger management at that time.

To save the life of a 16 year old boy who needed a gangrenous and infected left arm amputated, a British member of Medecins San Frontiers (MSF) was assisted by a colleague who sent instructions to the Democratic Republic of Congo based surgeon, by text messaging.

The modern way of bridging distances in communication came forward victoriously as the ‘real’ hero in the entire ordeal, as David Nott, the 52 year old MSF volunteer reportedly said the boy had about 2 or 3 days left before he would have died and Nott had never performed the necessary surgery before.

While Nott was aware that he needed to perform a forequarter amputation, that required removal of the collar bone and shoulder blade in order to correct the badly ripped and extremely infectious arm, he needed instructions and so contacted Professor Meirion Thomas from London’s Royal Marsden Hospital, who had experience with this type of procedure.

Nott said, “I took a deep breath and followed the instructions to the letter.”

Solange Knowles told a UK newspaper recently that she is thinking about adopting a child just as her parents adopted Kelly Rowland.

Media-Take-Out reported Beyonce’s little sister’s wishes for her future in ‘familyhood’ and implied in their report that Solange was disrespectful to speak of Kelly as if she had not been lovingly raised by her own mother and had her own family.

The UK report included a quote in which Solange said, “Kelly grew up with me since I was about five years old, so she is my sister. She didn't come from my parents, but there is nothing I feel differently for her than my sister” Solange has a son, Daniel and reportedly told the UK paper that she wants to follow in the footsteps of people like Angelina Jolie and Madonna and adopt a child since growing up with Kelly proved to her that one need not be blood relatives to form sisterly bonds.

Was this comparing Kelly to abandoned or orphaned children? Anyway, Solange is not rushing into things, as she claims that she has to find a man first.

KLAS Sports FM throws free Vintage night

KLAS Sports FM 89 will pull out all stops on Friday December 12, when another Vintage Rhythms fun-filled event will be held on the studio’s grounds.

The excitement is slated to unfold at 8:30pm and continue until 2:00am at KLAS, 17 Haining Road in Kingston; and will include not only popular guest selectors, but also live performances. Vintage greats like, Wee Pow from Stone Love and Gladdy of Wild Bunch Disco, will join Mayor Desmond McKenzie from KSAC and KLAS’s Nevelle Wray& Roy Black at the sound system controls.

Divine Order
Right outcomes are coming to me and through me this very day.
Before I start a project, I create a mental picture of what the end result might be. I outline the steps necessary to accomplish my goal and gather what I need to finish it. If any distractions or interruptions do pop up once I have started, I know that my careful preparations will keep me on track.
At times, life itself may seem to be filled with diversions that distract my focus from the goodness that surrounds me. But I stay on course by acknowledging my faith in God. I trust that divine order includes everything that contributes to right outcomes.

Last Friday night was ‘big nice time’ at Lucea’s Club 300 where the McGregors shook up the small stage like a ‘quake’.

Freddie McGregor gave the truly delighted crowd a stunning performance as he weaved through hit after hit, with fans chanting along word for word.

It was The Star’s ‘Jungle Fever’ Part Two, when chosen ‘Stars of the Month’ get a special ‘spotlight’ with meet and greets that involve autograph signings, coupled with selective performances.

Club 300 was one of these special features where patrons got up close and personal with the McGregor clan, who did not disappoint. Freddie’s, “And So I’ll Wait For You” had the crowd serenading and after songs like: “Stop Loving You,” “Push Come To Shove,” “Rain Start Falling Down,” and “I Was Born A Winner,” some ladies had virtually lost their voices from screaming, while the men chanted and flashed lighters.

Anthony Cruz hosted the evening and also on hand to entertain and sign autographs were Chino and Shema. Cruz was full of life and did a great job as emcee. He also had the crowd rocking to songs like: “Half Way Tree,” Block The Road” and “Mama.”

Chino elicited high energy from the audience as he gave them, “Burn Them,” “Girl Dem Straight” and “Protected.” Other entertainers appearing on the bill included: Tellah, Skeptic, Cassandra, and fashion designer Minka.

The McGregors topped off a perfect evening by hanging out with fans while the selectors kept the groove going into the wee hours.

Continuing a longstanding commitment to help provide assistance to the Bustamante Children’s Hospital in Kingston, Shaggy announced recently his decision to produce a fundraising concert on January 3, 2009, with the aim of raising US$2 million.

The goal is high and still will not completely meet the dire needs at this hospital where Shaggy has been involved as an altruist for some time. Shaggy told The Star that it was after the son of a notable producer, Tony Kelly became ill, was admitted there and failed to get the necessary treatment because of an equipment hurdle, that he decided to do his best for the hospital.

At that point Shaggy raised funds and donated equipment such as dialysis machines, and other life support machines, upgrading the conditions at the Children’s Hospital and improving conditions for gravely sick children.

At a recent tour, of the hospital Shaggy was again moved by the critical needs as children rotated on dialysis machines he had donated. A child lay with bullet wounds on a life support system he had also contributed and the continued need became glaringly enormous.

Realizing he must do more, Shaggy said he reached out to some of Jamaica’s best corporate sponsors and held a meeting in his home, where the decision to hold a fundraiser was made. Not only does the multi-award winning artist want to raise money for the purchase of equipment, he also aims at prompting others to come onboard in recognizing barriers to the determinants of health that exist for Jamaica’s children who need the facilities at the Bustamante Children’s Hospital.

"It's time that we Jamaicans fix things for ourselves and stop sitting down and waiting for hand-outs," Shaggy told The Star; and he is taking the lead in this effort as he has with many other charities.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has set his sights on becoming what has customarily been a white, classical British character in the next 007 flick.

Yes – he wants to be the next James Bond; and has gone to extreme lengths to increase his chances. Reports say ‘Diddy’ went to France’s southern coast to shoot ‘action footage’ that would serve as not only his audition tape, but also promotional footage for an upcoming fragrance.

“Diddy’ reportedly said, "This is my audition tape for the next James Bond. There is a black President and it's time for there to be a black Bond. God bless..."

Jay-Z and John Legend are among several musicians whose exclusive tracks will be available on a new digital music service called (RED) Wire.

Co-founded by Bono, the service promises tracks for a nominal $5 monthly, and it is being launched today on the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day.

An extension of the Bobby Shriver/Bono initiated (RED) organization where consumers are invited to purchase (RED) goods to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa, (RED) Wire will also offer tracks from underground artists and recitations done by actors.

The project was brought to fruition by Don MacKinnon, Hear Music founder, who says it is expected to be an ongoing service to generate lots of money. Half of the fee collected from subscribers will be directed to the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS TB and Malaria, through which (RED) already provides medicines for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Death Cab for Cutie Coldplay, and U2 are also offering up excusive tracks for this excellent cause.

“You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?” Chris Baker asked co-host Langdon Perry on their conservative radio talk show that airs from Twin Cities, Minnesota’s KTLK 100.3 FM. Perry answered, “I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS;” and he later referred to basketball giant, Magic Johnson as “the only cured AIDS guy ever.”

According to the Star Tribune the conversation received extensive exposure after being posted by Media Matters for America, but this did not faze the duo who dismissed the controversy around their remarks, refusing to comment and saying only that the whole thing was, “not news...but simply a three second comment from a four hour show.”

Magic Johnson released a statement in which he expressed his displeasure at the way his HIV status and the epidemic in general was being trivialized.

He told the Star Tribune, “Millions are dying from HIV/AIDS, and the fact that they would make jokes about my status is unbelievable,” said Johnson, 49, who came out as HIV positive in 1991. “Chris, Langdon and KTLK should use their power in a more positive light by encouraging people to get tested for this disease instead of making up such ridiculous lies.”

Respond to the desperate need of all of those unfortunate. To those of you that have responded to our call, we thank you from our hearts.

This year's journey to our sites in Africa brought us such joy and sorrow. There is still so much to do in one of the most beautiful continents in the world. I have written a diary of my journey - come and read about all of our accomplishments on World AIDS Day.

Charges laid on cops who claim they were in danger

The August 23 killing of Spragga Benz’ teen son Carlton Grant Jnr. became grounds for laying murder charges recently, after the Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn made that specific ruling.

Law enforcement officers who allegedly took part in the shooting death, were all given bail after different charges were laid on them in the Half Way Tree Criminal Court over a week ago.

Constables Andre Hare and Audley Lawrence, who were both charged with murdering the teenager had bail set at $300,000. Sergeant Michael Blackwood, charged only with assault, had bail set at $10,000.

The three policemen had stories that conflict with eyewitness accounts of the fatal incident. While the officers insist that they responded to an armed robbery call and felt their lives were threatened after the teens pulled out a gun and began firing - family and witnesses say differently.

Protesters who feel the killing was cold blooded murder, have been reportedly assaulted and jailed.

The three policemen return to court on December 11.

The light of God surrounds us.
If I myself or a friend or loved one is about to embark on a journey, the first line of the "Prayer for Protection" comes to mind. It helps me to remember that "The light of God surrounds us."
Recalling these words is a great source of peace to me. I know that God is all powerful and everywhere present. As I affirm my oneness with God, I feel the blessed assurance that all is well with me and with the people I pray for.
Today I hold family and loved ones--including my pets--in prayer. I see each one guided, protected, and cared for in the best possible way. It's true: God's presence lights our way every day.
