Miami's Memorial Weekend Heat ends in Gun Shots

By: CJ

bountykiller-sexygirls-beenieman.jpgEach and every year the South East Florida Authorities brace themselves for Memorial Weekend because it is usually full of events attended by thousands of people both locally and internationally. The high energy and excitement can sometimes create some sort of chaos. This year, gun salutes at one event confused crowds, causing some chaos.

Most of this holiday's events were incident free. Large crowds attended high society's upscale parties, including many stylish, classy ladies. White Noise's back-to-back parties featuring Tony Matterhorn, Super Twitch, Black Chiney, Stone Love and Swatch were also well attended. Bubbles and Blink lived up to their expectation, as did the Hip-hop concert featuring Young Jeezy, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe and Terror Squad.

There was no shortage of events or celebrities to increase the Miami heat. T-Pain, Akon, Busta Rhymes, Trina, Shaggy and Collie Budz were a few of the artistes who did their thing in Miami over the weekend.

However, the heat definitely rose and came to a crescendo on the Caribbean scene as the well-attended Annual Celebrity Soccer match came to a screeching halt during Bounty Killa's performance. Shortly after the first match and Movado's memorable performance, as the players of the second match strolled onto the field to warm up; and the Grunge Godd, took the microphone and began to deliver his signature lyrical anthems, the crowd delivered loud forwards. However, as Warlord electrified the crowd with "A gwen Murder Dem B****d Cloth," many gun salutes were fired. This seemed to confuse the crowd. Some were still dancing and cheering for Bounty as they recognized that it was only a gun salute and others started stirring for fear of a shooting. This created a domino effect in others who also started to run. Even though Bounty was able to subside the crowd with his words of peace and care for the mothers, children and lives in the park, the powers that be stepped up to the plate and ended the event. People were still confused and scrambled to evacuate the park as quickly as possible. Despite the gun shots and crowd stampede the family event was injury free and fun while it lasted.

10 yrs old Major Myjah set to perform in Atlanta this weekend

MajorMyjah-florida.jpgSomething about the lyrics,
"some a dem a dead, some a dead a flee;
some a dem, end up prisoners of war you see;
Prisoners of War de a Guantanomo Bay
How many of God's children haffi dead today
From the guns dem whey a fire everyday"

seems surreal coming from the pen of a 9 year old. Reality check! There's nothing surreal or far out about this pint size artist, Major Myjah.

With musical influences like Sade, Bob Marley, Nas and Bow Wow, it's almost natural for Myjah to spit lyrics that are beyond his years. In fact, the first song he ever sang freestyle was so deep that Reggae Veteran Freddie McGregor and his Road Manager Barry Clarke instantly gave him his moniker, Major Myjah, he was a wee 4 years old. Let his mother tell it, the future superstar has been singing and writing since birth. Now at a mere 10 years old MJ, as he prefers to be called by his peers, has 7 original self-penned songs in his repertoire. He also has an unreleased music video directed by re-known film director, Jay Will and is currently in the studio with seasoned producer Leroy "Baarbe" Romans and several other producers.
clickhere.jpg

Although he loves the limelight and has spent time on stage dancing while other headline artistes were performing, this weekend will mark his debut performance on the microphone. Major Myjah joins Junior Reid, Coco Tea, Admiral Bailey, Louie Culture, Ghost and others on the Reggae Stars Live Concert going down at Legacy Night Club, this Saturday June 2, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Even at this stage, Myjah is definitely a force to be reckoned with. He says it best, "My name is Myjah and I'm Major... yes, I'm a Superstar, yes, I'm gonna make it far." While most young artist add 'Lil' in front of their names like Lil Bow Wow, Lil Romeo and Lil Mama, this one gets Major.

Major Myjah sports a Mohawk and loves to sing, dance, swim and play video games. He has so much energy; his family enrolled him in basketball to burn some of it off. MJ's parents are musically inclined, one is an international artist and the other is a music industry executive. However, they prefer to down play their role in Myjah's career so that he can shine on his own merit. Again with lyrics like "Dem don’t even know what the war a go on for, yet Bush still a send more troops go a war," Myjah will not have any problems shining.

SRC presents Bajan Queen SHONTELLE

shontellepubpic-rihanna-sexygirls.jpgWhat's a girl to do when she's not only a beautiful and talented singer, but a straight-A college student as well? In the case of Shontelle Layne, it looks like the law career will have to wait -- her musical star is on the rise and cannot be stopped.

Gifted as both a writer and performer, this 23 year-old Barbadian has already carved a reputation in the Caribbean music world over the last several years by crafting hit songs for a number of top artists, all while pursuing her degree at the University of the West Indies. But it was only a matter of time before she unleashed her talents as an artist and performer on the world stage, with the upcoming release of her debut album, "Shontelligence" (Universal), and its first smash single, "Roll". Shontelle's music is an infectious blend of dancehall, reggae and hip-hop, with unstoppable grooves and thought-provoking lyrics that will find fans in every corner of the world.

The oldest of 3 sisters, Shontelle was born in Bridgetown, Barbados. At school she was a first class academic student. On the sports field she was highly competitive too. "I did track and field, lawn tennis and represented my school and Barbados at swimming", she recalls.
clickhere.jpg

It was during high school that she first met Barbados' current international star, Rihanna. "We were both active in the Cadets, and I was her Drill Sergeant...there was one occasion when I had to make her 'drop and give me ten push ups'. We laugh about it now...I think she's forgiven me." Little did either of them know at the time that they would soon both be signing major record deals.

Shontelle has been surrounded by strong women. Her aunt, Kim Derrick, a celebrated Bajan musician, could see her potential at a very early age. "She used to encourage me even as young as 3 and 4. All my family were musical, all my cousins play the piano. They used to come over to my house and we would play at the piano for hours."

Barbados-based music manager Sonia Mullins took Shontelle under her wing while she was attending college, and success soon followed: Shontelle scored one of the biggest Caribbean hits of 2005 as the writer of the girl power anthem "Roll". Producers Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken of SRP Records, who had discovered Rihanna in Barbados and brought her to the world stage, heard the song on a Bajan radio station and felt that it had international hit potential. They sought out the writer of the song to license it for a cover version, and had a pleasant shock : "We couldn't believe that she was such a great singer and so young and beautiful, and hadn't been discovered yet" says Rogers. They signed her immediately, and spent the next six months creating her debut album, co-writing with her as well as pulling in a-list producers such as Don Corleone (Sean Paul). Marc Jordan of Rebel-One management (Rihanna) also joined the team. When they brought her to Steve Rifkind at SRC, he wasted no time in putting her on the fast track for a 2007 release.

Shontelle has created a unique sound on her forthcoming album, "Shontelligence", which will be released on SRP/SRC Universal/Motown this summer. On the album she's pushed the musical boundaries of her Caribbean heritage and fused them exquisitely with soul and hip-hop. The spellbinding "Drop The Needle" threads hypnotic beats with Shontelle's sweet vocal to create a mesmerising dance-floor experience, while "I Crave You" is a poem of yearning and desire over bittersweet guitars.

"Life Is Not An Easy Road" takes the beats down a gear, back to the sun drenched beaches of her native Barbados, while the lyrics punctuate the song with hard hitting social commentary. "I jumped out of bed in the middle of the night with this beat in my head. I started writing straight away. I was thinking about society, about poverty and the underprivileged. The song's about struggle, holding on to your dignity and says that having faith in yourself gives you hope. I think the line in the song .... 'Keep yours eyes on tomorrow, but live for today' kinda sums it up".

And then there's "Focus Pon Me", a seductive slice of east meets west. Driving dancehall beats intertwine with Indian sitars and tablas to create a cultural workout that sonically seduces the listener.

Shontelle may have put the law degree on the back burner for now, but she certainly has no regrets. "I think I've known all along that it was my destiny to perform on stage and give something to people with my music", she says with calm conviction. And as 2007 looks to be the year that Shontelle arrives on the world scene, she's eagerly anticipating the excitement and challenges that lie ahead. "I love music, it's my passion, and I just can't wait for people to hear what I have to say...and I've got a lot to say!"

Stephen Marley's MySpace Secret Show featuring Damian Marley

By CJ
Photos by: Carlington Wilmot

stevenmarley-damianmarley-sexygirls_ziggy.jpg

There's the internet, then there's MySpace. Although the term internet was officially defined on October 24, 1995, the process was in the making since 1961. The Internet today is a widespread information infrastructure that connects the global community regardless of geographic location. Since the advent of the internet, many networking sites were created in the hopes of capitalizing on the instant easy access to the global community. MySpace is perhaps the most successful community site. According to Martin H. Bosworth of ConsumerAffairs.Com, "What started out as a "place for friends" has grown into the definitive social-networking phenomenon."

Many recording artists and bands caught on to the phenomena and use MySpace to communicate with fans and consumers of their music around the world. MySpace recently began another franchise, MySpace Secret Show. From it's inception in February 2006, MySpace users were treated to performances by some of the hot and sometimes new musical acts. The events are free and marketed only to MySpace loyalists. Previous showcases featured Paul Wall, Gym Class Heroes, and Gnarls Barkley. The latest installment was staged on Monday, May 30, 2007 at Studio A Nightclub in Downtown, Miami, Florida. It was sponsored by Chili and Featured Stephen "Ragga" Marley with special guest, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley.
clickhere.jpg

stevenmarley-damianmarley-sexygirls_ziggya.jpg
The line started to accumulate along the front of the Studio A building before 3pm and was close to 1,000 deep as it approached show time. The temperature of the intimate venue, located next to Club Space, Miami's hot spot, was in sync with the hot performances given by the band of brothers. Mr. Cheeks opened in true hip-hop style to the delight of the crowd and this created the momentum for Stephen to begin his two-hour set. He kicked it off with "Strictly Reggae Music" and vacillated between his anthems, Mind Control, It was Written, Hey Baby and some of his father's classics such as "No Woman No Cry," "Buffalo Soldier," and "Exodus."

Ragga, who repeatedly reminded the music lovers that MySpace brought them together, delivered an eclectic set which highlighted his prolific skills from production and vocalists to playing the guitar and drumming. Jr. Gong lived up to expectations as he energized the crowd and delivered his slew of lyrical rampage. The crowd responded to Marleys effectively as they belted out lyrics to each song and gave lighter, cell phone and verbal "bullet, bullet" salute every chance they got. The MySpace featured artistes were fully supported by their family from Steve’s 4-year old son, Jeremiah, who accompanied him on stage and danced while waving the Rastafarian flag for the entire set to The Matriarch of the Marley Clan, Mother Booker, who was in the house to support her grandchildren and everyone in between Older brother, Ziggy, fresh from his successful world tour supporting his monster album, "Love is My Religion", joined the performance for a collaboration. Their sister, Cedella Marley who mainly focuses on the business arm of the Bob Marley brand, was also on-hand. She cheered, danced and gave forwards from the sideline with their brothers Rohan and namesake Robbie Marley as well as other close family friends, before getting in on the on-stage action. Cedella who has matured gracefully, went on stage for a feature on "Could you be Loved." The crowd went into frenzy as Stephen, Ziggy, Damian and Cedella put their spin on the late Gong's classic. Cedella's influence on her protégés was apparent in the choreography and harmonies of the high-energy background singers.
stevenmarley-damianmarley-sexygirls_ziggyb.jpg
There was little movement in the packed house as everyone was focused on the historical performance going down in Studio A. The audience was from all walks of life bonded together by their MySpace community networking. The internet and more specifically MySpace have really revolutionized the way information is disseminated and localized the way friends are connected. Through MySpace, friend's friends become friends. Go figure! The overall positive vibration plus the crowds response encouraged Stephen, who is on-tour in support of his latest album "Mind Control," to out perform their previously scheduled 45-minute set. The "MySpacers" enjoyed every minute of the Marleys offerings.

YardFlex.com caught up with Stephen, Damian and Cedella backstage and it was unanimously stated that family support was so natural for them that it fit right into their busy schedule without effort. The camaraderie was evident in their expression of love and unity for each others projects. Stephen, who is also producing Tuff Gong label mates Mr. Cheeks and Illustrate as well as Kymani Marley was quick to point out that his work, creativity and time management came with ease because it's like "being on both sides of the same coin" it goes hand-in- hand. Like Ziggy and Damian, much of his inspiration comes from his environment and meditation and surfaces while he is on the road. Considering that they spend so much of their time on the road bringing their message and music to the masses, it really is astounding that they can still focus and create such profound and positively rich music in addition to supporting other artistes and each other.

Reggae Headliners storm Miami with Best of the Best

By Olimatta Taal and CJ

Over thirty thousand disciplined patrons attended the Best of the Best Reggae Concert held at the Miami Bicentennial Park in South Florida on May 27th, Memorial Day. It was a day of excitement, fun, and musical enjoyment for the entire family as some of the most dominant artist in the Reggae industry delivered set after set.

Best of The Best was hosted by a slew of veteran DJs like Papa Keith of Clear Channel's 103.5 The Beat, DJ Khaled of WEDR's 99 Jamz, Jabba from Hot 97 in New York, Super Twitch, and Chip Lee The Performer, to name a few. There was a combination of music from top Jamaican Sounds, DJs and selectors that kept the audience entertained in throughout the show. Even with an opening crowd of approximately 3,000, the show began on time, marking a big feat for this type of production that historically does not run on schedule.
clickhere.jpg

Shifta and Niki B opened with a bang. Jovie Rockwell, fresh from her previous day's video shoot, rocked the crowd with her new hits. The concert continued, approaching its climax when Hip-Hop superstar Akon got on stage. Although many were disappointed with his early, sunshine performance, they still sang along with many number 1 hits like, No Body Want to See Us Together. The African rapper sent many female fans into a frenzy when he surprisingly jumped into the crowd and sang directly to them. Women seemed to be in ecstasy as they grabbed and held on to his statuesque body.
munga-barrington-levy-reggae-sexygirls.jpg
As expected, Lady Saw commanded the audience with a selection of her raw hits and compelling stage presence. Shaggy delivered hit after hit while Da'Ville swooned the ladies with his soothing voice.

One of the evening's highlights was Tony Matterhorn's gimmick, that saw him get on stage as, Mr. Mentally Ill, in a full white helmeted Martian suit, accompanied by a space themed sound track in the background, that indicated he was the "man from mars". The crowd reveled as the selector turned artiste delivered many number one hits including Dutty Wine and Goodas Fi Dem. The fans' enthusiasm was evident as they displayed a sea of dancing flags. Different Caribbean and African flags could be seen waving in the air.

Barrington Levy took the crowd down memory lane. He received many forwards from the attendees as they sang along to Too Experience, Murderer, Broader than Broadway, and other true Barrington Levy anthems. Munga Honorable made his mark as the newest dancehall sensation, dressed in a red, gold, and green hoodie. As he declared Me Bad From Me Born, the crowd clung on to every word.
buountykiller-mavadoalliancesexygirls.jpg
Buju Banton's electrifying performance demanded a forward. In between his string of hit songs, Gargamel intrigued the audience with words of wisdom and inspiration. A strong combination of his harmonious backing singers and his strong baritone voice made the performance one to remember. The audience sang along as he belted out Driver, Murderer, Untold Story, Browning, Blackening, and many other Buju classics.

In true Caribbean style, as the night grew later, the crowd got more dense. By the time Capleton, The Prophet, blessed the stage the crowd had amassed past the vendors' location, spreading to the very back of the vast property. Dressed in royal silver and gold, King Shango burned a fire. Capleton displayed "the best of the best" as he took the audience back to the good old days of Dancehall in the early 90's. His love for the woman was evident as he performed a number of songs dedicated to them. The most memorable moment was a new song that he performed just for mothers. The passion and energy that was displayed in his set was impeccable.

The Bad Boy of dancehall, Elephant Man, delivered next. Recently signed to Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Label, the Energy God flexed his industry muscle by inviting Wyclef Jean on stage. They performed an unreleased duet. Delivering his standard gimmicks and stunts, Ele invited two big women on stage, picked up one of them and proceeded to gyrate, before flinging her across the stage in amusement. He also gave the Miami and International massive his usual pole climb. Whisking up to 24 feet in the air, while singing and entertaining the crowd as The True Energy God. In between songs, he made reference to not going back to his Hotel as there was a gay convention in town and many attendees were staying where all the Reggae artist were housed.

The show came to a grand finale with the Alliance Crew represented by Bounty Killer, Movado, and Wayne Marshall. The audience sang along to Gangsta For Life, Say Dem Can't, Chat Too Much, and other favorites as the crew bounced tunes from one to the other. The Warlord was in a great mood as he delivered his poor people and bad man anthems. He kept the warfare to a minimum. Although he gave a stellar performance many were still waiting on his classics like Fed Up and Cellular Phone. Wayne Marshall had the people singing out of the palm of his hands with Astronaut, I Forgot Dem, and other hits.

Although many patrons were outraged over the admission cost, VIP location and lack of organization, the show was a great feat overall. On another positive note, all 30,000 people in attendance from different parts of the Globe, united together under one vibration without incident. Each artist, vendor, staff and patron represented themselves as the Best of The Best.

What critics are saying about "Double Up"

rkellydoubleupcover.jpg"...he has affirmed his position as one of the era's greatest..." - NY Times

"...vintage R Kelly..." - USA Today

"...Kelly's not only smooth enough for the ladies, but rough enough for the fellas..." - NY Post

"The album provides plenty of examples of the real reason that Kelly's career continues to thrive…he keeps serving up the hot jams." - The Philadelphia Inquirer

"...the smooth vocals and sizzling hip-hop beats are hype-worthy." - US Weekly

"[the] microdramas are so masterfully executed that it's easy to forget how great the music is..." - Washington Post

About R. Kelly and Double Up

As the undisputed king of R&B, R. Kelly never seems to be far from the current soul scene. Be it collaborating with his homeboy Snoop ("That's That") or trading verses with Ciara ("Promise Remix"), this Chicago soul man has displayed a consistent brilliance throughout his fifteen-year career.
clickhere.jpg

Since 2002, R. Kelly has blessed his fans with a new album every year, and 2007 will be no different. While the rest of the music world slept, R. Kelly has been inside his famed studio the Chocolate Factory making countless beats, laying down mackadelic vocals and creating wonderful music.

Much like his musical forefathers Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Donny Hathaway (the latter two also hailed from Chi-town), R. Kelly makes songs for ladies lounging in suites as well as homeboys b-balling in the streets. Aptly titled Double Up, Kelly's new disc features a wide ranch of songs that pushes the sonic envelope while staying true to his game.

"Everything I did in the past, I'm about to double up on it," says the windy city maestro. In other words, the listener will not be disappointed with the fierce production, superior lyricism and hyper collabos one has come to expect from a Kells project. Just in time for summer, with its whirlwind of backyard barbeques and beach parties, Double Up is filled with enough anthems to dominate the season.

Firing the soul shot heard around the world, "I'm A Flirt (Remix)" is the self-expletory title of the first single. Over a smooth mid-tempo groove, R. Kelly lays down a bit of nightspot realness. "Soon As I See Her Walk Up In The Club (I'm A Flirt)/ Winkin Her Eyes At Me, When I Roll Up On Them Dubs (I'm A Flirt)/ Sometimes When I'm With My Chick On The Low (I'm A Flirt)," he sings. Joining forces with his homies T.I and T-Pain, Kelly has constructed the perfect player's anthem.

With an exquisite video shot by famed photographer Timothy Saccenti, the scorching single has already become a popular request on YouTube as well as in heavy rotation on BET and MTV. "Having worked with so many hip-hop artists over the last few years, I decided to throw some of that magic on my own record," says R. Kelly.

Enlisting a posse of hard-hitting' rhyme slayers for Double Up, Kelly proves himself a versatile performer who can vocally hang with anyone on the mic. From the big beat blast of "Rock Star" with six-time Grammy Award winner Ludacris to the bombastic appearance of Rick Ross on the thunderous "Put Some Money On It," Kelly voice and outstanding production is pure fire.

Hooking-up with his old buddy Snoop, the two do their thang on the title track. With a kick of killer bass, this song is bound to have folks house party sweating. Still, experimenting with his personal style of rap-singing, "Pull Your Hair" will have women across the country smiling sexily while tightening their weaves. Later on the record, Kelly shares the mic with hometown boy Kayne West on the amazing "Hook It Up."

Yet, for anyone who might think that the pied piper of soul has turned his back on ballads has another think coming. "To me, rap and R&B are like two hands holding one another," says R. Kelly. "Double Up is about 70% hip-hop, but, that being said, I'm always going to make songs for the ladies."

On Double Up, R. Kelly gives his fans not only want they want, he gives them twice as much.

Mims Heat is cooled by a $7.5 Million Discrimination Lawsuit

By: CJ

mims_junior_reid.jpgThe "This is why I'm Hot Rapper" is facing a legal battle alledging that he is sexist. Marquitta Blair filed suit in New York's Rockland County Court, alledging that her civil rights were violated when Mims didn't honor a contract to perform at a New York nightclub. The twenty-two year old Talent Agent says she paid a $2,500 deposit to Mims' agents for a performance. Apparently the rapper never showed up. Blair interpreted Shawn Mims decision to vacate the scheduled booking as having a "discriminatory attitude" towards women which, in her opinion, reflects his "pattern of conduct involving the belittlement and degradation of females as bitches and hoes."
clickhere.jpg

According to the New York Post, Blair is seeking $7.5 million dollars. This is a stark contrast to the $10,000 fee that Mims would have earned on April 5th, had he performed the 10-minute set at Eugene, in Manhattan. What's confusing is why was the deposit amount only 25% of the total fee instead of the industry standard 50%. Perhaps this may have affected his decision to pull out of the deal. Most artistes and their reps do not make good on offers unless the standard and contractual financial obligations have been met. It is not clear whether a separate agreement for this small deposit was made. We will have to get more information to the same as the lawsuit unfolds.

Bounty Killer killed them musically at Best of the Best Concert

By: CJ

bounty-killer-best-of-best-mavado-beenie-man-d'angel.jpgBounty Killa was in rare form on stage last night at the Best of the Best Concert in downtown Miami, Florida. He killed them musically and summed up the War in one paragraph. In his war cry, he told the 30,000 attendees that they keep talking about his ex-girlfriend (D'Angel) but them need to realize that once you pick up what the warlord done with, problems will come. "See the two a dem a stab up each other." Of course the crowd responded with a thunderous outburst of cheer as they realize that he was referring to the recent marital assault between newly weds D'Angel and Beenie Man.

The Warlord, nee Rodney Price, shifted to his musical repertoire complemented by Movado and Wayne Marshall. Although they both gave stellar individual performances, they also shined as the Grunge Godd's hype men. In true Alliance Unity, Movado referred to the veteran
DJ as his father, musically. Bounty Killa and Movado were dressed in alliance in full black with diamond emblems on the back.
clickhere.jpg

Movado's bling message was the "The World is Mine" while The Killer rocked the Jamaican flag in diamonds. The reverence and respect that they shared was evident in their on stage chemistry. The musical bantering between the artistes made the crowd ecstatic. However, there was a glaring ommission of some of Bounty's mega hits like Look into My Eyes, Fed Up, and Cellular Phone. In addition, there were also issues with the sound and equipment but The Alliance still gave a good performance.

Nadine Sutherland's Call My Name

By: Olimatta Taal

Nadine_Sutherland_sexgirls_reggae_buju_banton.jpgNadine Sutherland's newest album was launched at the Grogge Shop in Devon House on May 22nd, by Eight76 Records. The album, Call My Name, was inspired by real-life events with at least ten of fifteen tracks on the album co-written by Nadine.

Music industry veteran and judge of Rising Stars competition, Clyde McKenzie, hosted the launch. In the quaint, historical setting of Devon House, McKenzie introduced a number of distinguished guests who spoke about Nadine's extensive contribution to the reggae fraternity.

Considered by fans and critics alike to be the premier Jamaican female vocalist of her generation, she made her stage debut at the age of nine as a winner of Jamaica's popular Tastees Talent Contest. As an adolescent, Sutherland was signed to International reggae superstar Bob Marley's Tuff Gong label and thirty years later she still remains a rarity.
clickhere.jpg

Commonly described as a talented female singer capable of voicing any style; sexy and hauntingly beautiful, yet with uncompromising class and intelligence; one whose roots are embedded in the very heart of Jamaican culture. Nadine went from being known as reggae's "Teen Queen" with hits like Starvation and Until, to getting recognition for reggae anthems like Action and Anything for You.

Call My Name has one collaboration, Can't Tek It, featuring Chrisinti and Nadine has recorded music with Buju Banton, Mad Cobra, Spragga Benz, Terror Fabulous, and Snow in the past. In 1997, she released her self-titled album on VP Records, that showcased her depth and sincerity as a writer and performer.

In 2004, Nadine conquered yet another entertainment medium, television. As one of the judges on Jamaica's most popular television show and first live talent search, Rising Stars, she has come full circle. "I see myself in some of the young contestants, and I understand what they go through. I feel protective of them because this business can be rough, and you won't always have someone to hold your hand," Nadine explained.

Call My Name debuted at number14 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. It is currently number 12 on the same chart. This album marks the first Billboard Reggae Albums Chart appearance for both Nadine and Eight76 Records. It takes you on a musical journey with a combination of beautiful reggae riddims to international eclectic sounds. This album will lift your spirits yet sooth your soul to Call My Name.

The Ark Angel A.K.A Richie Spice back home

richiespice_regggae_jamaica.jpgThe Ark Angel: Richie Spice has returned to Jamaica after his two performances in Kenya and completing a successful 11-venue European tour promoting his latest album In the Streets to Africa.

The Europe leg of the tour had Richie travelling to 6 countries and performing in 11 cities to a total of over 6000 fans at sold out venues. The tour took him to the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, France and Italy where he performed in popular cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Rotterdam.

The most memorable performance of the tour was in Brussels at the VK club. After his usual 90 minute set, the crowd demanded him to perform more, repeatedly screaming "We Want Richie!!" The VK Club, which usually closes at 11pm, had to extend their opening hours to allow Richie to perform for another 30 minutes.
clickhere.jpg

In Paris, Richie performed along with Beenie Man to a crowd of over 1200. The crowd seemed disappointed to see Richie leave the stage and demanded more, however Richie made way for the King of the Dancehall.

At all performances Richie shows why he has kept such a strong following. His ability to connect with the crowd is what makes him loved by many. "At all the venues the crowd sang along with the Ark Angel, they knew all his songs including the ones from In the Streets to Africa." Reported Ron Remak, tour organiser.

A fan, one of the over 400 persons who watched Richie's performance in Rotterdam, had this to say:

"I had a great time in Waterfront Rotterdam, a lot of people just wanted for Richie Spice and the band to stay and play for us a little longer... everybody was feeling the music 10 times stronger than Richie might have thought. If we had an opportunity to play for the band if they were too tired we would have done that for sure. Keep spreading the word and love of Jah Rastafari" - Anselm Alexander Albertus.

"Europe was a great experience, we plan to go back in August for major festivals such as Upssala Reggae Festival in Sweden" Richie Spice commented.

Richie Spice continues to travel the globe to promote his 2nd album In the Streets to Africa.

Morgan Heritage does French...Guyana

morgan_herritage-reggae_sexygirls.jpgEven lead singer Peter seemed overwhelmed by the roaring screams of the crowd. He paused to give them their moment. The band played low in the background to maintain the rhythm, the crowd assumed the foreground with the deafening roar of enjoyment. Under umbrellas and covered in mud, rain soaked fans jumped, danced, sang and delighted in the show.

This was the scene two songs into the Morgan Heritage rescheduled set in French Guyana this past weekend. Brothers Peter, Gramps, Mojo and Lukes aimed to please following the two-week delay of the concert. Drawing deep, the group unleashed one crowd favourite after another including Caribbean Party, I'm Still The Same and Tell Me How Come.
clickhere.jpg

Morgan Heritage Moved by the performance and the impromptu invite from Peter, the audience jumped the barriers marking the VIP section in an effort to be closer to the royal family of reggae. With the crowd hanging on every note of their Full Circle album track, brother Laza burst from the wings to drop his verse on Best Friend.

Laza's clear and resonating vocals rose over the piercing screams of the ladies in the front rows obviously impressed by the sheer potency of his performance. Laza followed up his toasting on the love song with the poignant track Informer demonstrating his versatility. The crowd seemed to lap it up.

Pressured by curfew restrictions, Morgan Heritage closed with Tell Me How Come. Once again, the crowd participated in the performance singing each line of the chorus with Peter.

Overdue, certainly. Overjoyed was the sentiment as the fans carefully avoided mud puddles following Morgan Heritage in French Guyana.

Mr. Vegas and Jovi Rock-well in 'You Gonna Need Me' video

Mr.Vegas-hotWuk-Dancehall-SeanPaul-Beenieman-jovi-rockwell.jpgThe video is now out for Vegas' and Jovi Rockwell combination song 'You Gonna Need Me'. It is already showing on Hype TV and RE TV to good response.

This amazing video was shot in Los Angeles, California under the direction of Mark Humphrey - it is everything that Vegas promised it would be. The plot surrounds a typical man and woman issue with the woman having to cope with her mate's roving eye but knowing ultimately that "chicken will always come home to roost".

clickhere.jpg

The scenes are laced with some real alluring moments between Vegas and Jovi - enough to be tasteful and not too much to be classified as distasteful. There are some wonderful interplay scenes between Vegas and Jovi and her outfits will have the males requesting more play of the video from the various TV and cable stations!

With this out of the way - Vegas is now focused on the busy summer season that is coming up. This should see him on some of the top festivals both here in Jamaica and on the international scene.

Lady Saw champions technical glitch at Montreal's E.B. Club Lounge

By: Janice Dayle

lady-saw_sexygirls_naked.jpgRaw as ever, Lady Saw passed through Oshawa and Montreal last weekend, while on her promotional tour for the newly released album, Walk Out.

On May 18, Oshawa was said to have had a sold out crowd and in Montreal on the 19th, where YardFlex.com was in the house, the audience was just as strong and lively. Ignoring technical difficulties that at one point forced the awesome 1st Lady of rude dub to even sit off to one side of the stage, giving engineers the chance to work it out - patrons sang along in high octaves. Montreal's Jamaican owned reggae hub, E.B. Club Lounge was certainly buzzing with excitement, as Lady Saw's persistence and "Love for her audience," overshadowed the glitch.

clickhere.jpg

A true seasoned performer, she rose to the occasion and pelted the crowd with her hot saucy lyrics that were of course tempered with Lady Saw's other side, the one that advocates for uplifting the human spirit. "See my belly is out of shape," she said while lifting up her loose fitting, hip length top to reveal a not too out of shape body, "But that doesn't mean I shouldn't love myself just the way I am." Encouraging the realization of high self-esteem, Lady Saw visibly moved the people who made sure to join in as she sang her songs.

Hosted by CKUT's Howard "Stretch" Carr, one audience member described the show as, "The bomb." Lady Saw was exhausted and a bit emotional at the end, since her wishes are always to deliver a flawless set. She probably didn't realise that her Montreal fans, who showered applauses full of love for her, were still well pleased.

Ninja man and Bounty Killer at odds?

Article and Photos by:
Carlington Wilmot

bounty-killer-ninja-man-clash-beenieman.jpg

"Ninja, Nuh worry bout me and Angel and bun" -- "D'Angel left you because you can pay di bill".

These are a few heated lines from songs done by Bounty Killer and Ninja Man, throwing blows at each other. Some people say it's nothing serious, just a father and son quarrel, but according to the heated words being thrown at each other in two songs that were on heavy rotation on Jamaican radio stations last weekend, this seems to be more than just a father and son tiff.

At the beginning of this rhythmic bickering Ninja Man mentioned Bounty Killer's name in a song in reference to past details of Bounty Killer and D'Angel's previous relationship. Bounty Killer countered this move with a song of his own and just by listening to the words of this song you can tell that he really was upset with the situation
clickhere.jpg

However, Ninja Man claims he was just throwing words, so it would appear that this song for song feud has been taken too far.
Taking what was said in jest too seriously, Bounty Killer also called the Warlord, fired back at Ninja with a tune. Upon hearing the Warlord's song, the Ninja then returned to the studio and voiced a counteraction.

Check out some excerpts of the last two of these songs.

Bounty Killer's Lyrics

Verse
Ninja man that's you
nuh mek up nothing bout me that you don't know
which big artiste sex donkey and hoe
sniff a bag a coke and don't turn up for stage show
naah have nuh real gal and affi married gogo
Yuh nuh deh pon my level Ninja man yuh too low

Chorus
Ninja Man you done,
from the first day yuh give adams yuh gun,
Nuh worry bout me and Angel and bun,
Watch it mek mi rub out di coke head fi fun

Ninja Man's Lyrics

Verse
See di killer deh - Ninja Man nuh bother waan kill
D'Angel left you because you can pay di r**s bill
The world know say you mentally ill
Gas a kill yuh – and yuh owe pon di apartment still
All now yuh house caan done pon di hill
Mavado nah go dead so yuh naah guh get nuh will

Chorus
Yuh Never broke a war,
Never do a thing
Never buss a gun only stone him know fi fling
Never yet mek a duppy in a di thing
Warlord a di cowardest thing

Reckless Driving Allegation for Foxy Brown

By: CJ

foxy_brown_sexygirls_naked_nude_rihanna_beyounce.jpgAccording to our Sources, Foxy Brown AKA The Ill NaNa was driving on a suspended license, in Brooklyn, when she almost hit a young woman pushing a stroller.

The New York Daily News first reported that according to the mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous, she was in the crosswalk with her stroller in front of her when the rapper sped past her in a silver Range Rover. The mother barely had time to pull the baby out of harm's way before exchanging some heated words with the sassy Foxy. "She cursed at me and proceeded to drive down Prospect Place."

The unnamed mother attempted to file a police report but the police advised her that they could not assist her because neither her nor her baby were actually hit. The police department further could not respond to the alleged reckless driving charges even though DMV confirmed the Brown's driver's license has been revoked for failing to respond to summonses. Brown also has a history of driving without a license. This was evident in her citation back in 2000 when she crashed her Range Rover off Flatbush Avenue. Range Rover...Brooklyn...hmm!

Since the victim had no recourse, she gave the New York Daily News an exclusive.

Danger Zone produces positive sounds in Jam Down

danger-zone-ce'cile-sexygirls-naked-girls.jpg

Danger Zone Records has released their latest rhythm aptly titled 'Jam Down', as it is reminiscent of old school reggae. Produced by Danger Zone's Della, Jigsy King and Ce'Cile, the 'Jam Down Riddim' is a compilation of 9 lovers' rock tunes and 11 culture / meditational anthems.

"We are trying to get back to the realness of the music. I love Dancehall but Reggae is my first love. Danger Zone will be producing more authentic sounds that compliment our artistes and offer a positive message," Delmar 'Della' Drummond revealed.
clickhere.jpg

Danger Zone Records has made the conscious decision to refrain from producing music with negative messages such as songs with pro-violence or pro-gun lyrics. "Danger Zone Records' motto is unification through music." Ce'Cile explains. "We are trying to set an example by producing music that will both unify and edify the people. If the track mentions guns it must be anti-gun lyrics."

The 20-track album features Danger Zone artistes Ce'Cile, Jah Cure, Jigsy King, Cutty Corn, Mikey 'Untouchable' Pelpa and Slubbo and highlights both popular and young artistes. "Danger Zone is dedicated to developing young talent. All our albums feature fresh talent," says Della.

The Jam Down riddim has already been receiving major airplay in the Caribbean, US and Europe and plans are in place for the medley video to be filmed this month in two parts: Jam Down Lovers medley and Jam Down Culture medley. VP Records will also be distributing the album on 'Riddim Driven'.

HIV/ AIDS FACTS...and yes...you need to know

Grab a dictionary and read slowly, this clearly explains the deadly Human Immunodeficiency Virus

By: Dr. Carlton Fraser

aids_front_big.jpgThe Virus: Its History and Definition
The history of viruses probably began about 1886 when the Dutch chemist Adolf Mayer revealed that it was possible to transfer the tobacco mosaic disease from an affected plant to a healthy plant. In the past (1882) he had described the phenomenon as "a soluble, possible enzyme-like contagium" but by 1886 he had altered his opinion and reported that it is "bacterial, but that the infectious forms have not yet been isolated, nor are their forms of life known..."

Subsequently (1892) the Russian bacteriologist Dmitri Ivanovsky failed in his attempts to isolate the infectious agent by use of filtering and it was left to Dutch botanist Martinus Beijerink to voice the observation that the behavior, of the seemingly elusive causative agent, was different from that of bacteria. He fittingly coined the definition 'contagium vivum fluidum' or 'virus(es)' - the Latin for poison.

In and about 1935 two interesting events occurred that contributed immensely to our clinical understanding of virology. One was the American chemist Wendel M. Stanley isolating the tobacco mosaic virus and the other was the invention of an electron microscope which made viruses visible for the first time.
clickhere.jpg

At approximately the same time (19th-20th Century) Leoffler and Frosch discovered foot and mouth disease virus. Almost immediately was the discovery of the first human disease- causing virus, yellow fever virus. By the end of the 1930's tumor viruses, bacteriophages, influenza viruses, mumps and many arboviruses had been identified. Since then and to the present, the discovery and isolation of viruses have intensified with the human immunodeficiency (HIV) and human T-cell lymphotropic viruses listed among the more recent (of the human disease-causing viruses).

Viruses are parasites too small to be seen by even a microscope, that can be found in all types of organisms. They can only reproduce with the help or indirect assistance of the host cell in which they reside. As a result of their inability to self replicate and their inert status outside the living host cell, they are not considered as living organisms. However, viral intercellular entry instantly activates the viral nucleic acids and viral multiplication results. Viruses have few or no enzymes of their own metabolism. To replicate, viruses must seize the metabolic machinery of the host cell.
Acquired immunity is essentially the protection an organism develops against specific types of microbes on foreign substances. When the human immune system recognizes a foreign substance- the provoked response is production of antibodies and specialized lymphocytes (white blood cells). An insufficient response results in varied deficiencies and many viruses are capable of infecting and killing lymphocytes thus lowering the response.

Discovery - Clinical Recognition
AIDS is an immune system disorder in which the body's ability to adequately defend itself is circumstantially diminished. When the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) invades certain white blood cells named T-Lymphocytes and multiples, it creates a systematic breakdown of the immune system, eventually leading to overwhelming damage and the production of chemicals and messenger molecules that kill the invading foreign material(s). The protective limits of the body represent those areas that come in contact with the external environment through: the skin, mucous membranes of the mouth, genitals, nose and eyes the lung linings and so on.

Disruption of this defensive system or alteration in cellular membrane can cause invasion which will precipitate immediate activation of the immune complex. Immune cells are highly reactive metabolically and they exhibit a high turnover. A vigilant immune system is critical to the prevention of infection by viruses, fungi and bacteria and will even deactivate disfigured cancer cells (which form regularly) before they can become malignant disease states which can be fatal. Deaths among people with AIDS are not caused by AIDS itself, but by one of the many infections or cancers to which the syndrome makes the body vulnerable.

Origin of Virus/ Etiology
The origin of the HIV is probably the most controversial and most debated subject in the medical community and in society in general. At the 1996 Eighth Annual Houston Conference on AIDS in America, Howard B. Urnovitz, M.D, a microbiologist, challenged medical science to prove wrong his theory that the human immunodeficiency virus Type-1 (HIV-1) is a monkey-human hybrid that was created after 300,000 Africans were injected between 1957 and 1959 with quantities of experimental live oral polio vaccines contaminated with different monkey viruses. A similar stance was taken by journalist Edward Hooper in his book 'The River: Journey to the source of AIDS' in which he links the onset of AIDS to a mass polio vaccination in the 1950's when many Africans were injected with an experimental vaccine derived from monkey organs. In 1998 the media alerted the public to further evidence that AIDS started in Africa.
The proof consisted of an old (1959) stored frozen blood specimen discovered to be HIV positive. Researchers claimed that the tiny amount of serum contained fragments of HIV 'closely mated' to a virus found in the chimpanzees in the African wild and was in the frozen remains of a chimp named Marilyn, discovered in a freezer at the Fort Detrick biodefense laboratory. The 1959 specimen-obtained from a Bantu man living in Kinshasa, the Congo - was later heralded 'the worlds oldest HIV-positive blood sample.'

In October 2000 the Royal Society of London held a two day conference on the origins of HIV. A single declaration was "all human infectious diseases have an animal origin." However this only helped to ignite the debate as Boyd E. Graves discusses it in his book, 'State Origin: the evidence of the Laboratory Birth of AIDS.' He states that the true history of the origin of AIDS can be traced throughout the 20th Century and back to 1878. On April 29th of that year the United States passed a 'Federal Quarantine Act.' The U.S began a significant effort to investigate 'causes' of epidemic diseases. In 1887 the effort was enhanced with the mandate of the 'U.S. Laboratory of Hygiene.' This lab was run by Dr. Joseph Kinyoun. Two years later (1889) we were able to identify mycoplasmas – a transmissible agent that is now found at the heart of human diseases including HIV/AIDS.

But did science create a genetic genocide machine? Dr. William Campbell Douglas (M.D.) wrote that HIV was finally produced or genetically engineered in 1974. In his report 'WHO murdered Africa', he tells us that the AIDS virus produced by the WHO (World Health Organization) was not just a diabolical scientific exercise that got out of hand, he said, "It...was a successful attempt to create a killer virus which was then used successfully in Africa. African AIDS was the result of the small pox eradication vaccine program conducted by WHO during the 1970's."

At the Royal Society's conference (2000) Dr. Kevin De Cock of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta Georgia criticized both theories. He expounded on the epidemiological principles required to ascertain the true origins of HIV, describing Hooper's book, 'The River: Journey to the source of AIDS,' that proposes an ecologic association between contaminated OPV (oral polio vaccine) and the emergence of HIV, as hypothetical discourse relying on data that indicated noticeable bias and irregularities of association in their assembly. De Cock was also critical of attempted analysis of SIV (simian[monkey] immunodeficiency virus) distribution among the chimpanzees in Central Africa as epidemiologically irrelevant to understanding what took place in the past, just as current HIV prevalence tells us nothing about the date of HIV's emergence in a population.

Dr. Leopold Zekeng of the Cameroon Laboratorie de Sante Hygiene Mobile reviewed HIV and SIV infections in Cameroon and the theory that monkey- hunting Pygmy tribes in the region might have been the vectors for the transfer of HIV from chimps to the wider population. Zekeng and his colleagues investigated HIV prevalence among two Pygmy tribes and found that HIV was lower than within the predominant Bantu and strongly linked to contact with urban centers suggesting that the theory that Pygmy hunters have acted as a bridge for HIV into the human population is probably fallacy.

In 1981 AIDS was identified as a new syndrome and the sudden appearance of epidemics of previously rare diseases such as Kaposi sarcoma (KS) and Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia were recognized as a single syndrome due to their relation to immunosuppression. The people believed to be mostly affected at that time were homosexual men, indicating the AIDS epidemic might be caused by an infectious agent. Also, haemophiliacs, transfusion recipients and intravenous drug abusers appeared to be a high risk of developing the disorder, thus implicating a blood borne infectious agent as the causative element. CD4+ and T-cells were seen as the elements most likely involved in AIDS; the theory that AIDS was most likely due to a new human T-trophic retrovirus was proposed in 1982. The identification of a human retrovirus [human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV- I)] as the etiologic agent of AIDS soon followed.

The much anticipated music video for Sizzla's Show More Love To The Youths on Feed The Children's exciting Africa riddim, was shot last Friday on locations across August Town and Sandy Park, close to Sizzla's Judgment Yard.

In Show More Love To The Youths, conscious Rastafarian singer Sizzla delivers a deep social commentary about the state of the younger generation. Recorded on the Sly & Robbie created Africa rhythm, the song is definitely worth a good listen and radioland is making sure of it.

Stopping crime and violence, taking care of the nation's youth and supporting community is the video's theme. During the video shoot, residents of Sizzla's community came out in their numbers to show their support as video director, Allan 'Endless' Tennent, worked his magic.

Directors of Feed The Children Africa label also put on a treat for children in the community, giving away school supplies such as books and pencils. Sizzla also took the time to sign autographs for the children. According to one of the directors, this is the first of several treats the Los Angeles and Jamaica based label will host in various communities across the island.

The 16-track Feed The Children Africa compilation album will be officially released at the end of May in Jamaica, North America and Europe, and will be distributed by Energy Beat Records.

In addition to Sizzla's Show More Love To The Youths, the album also features Paul Elliot with Same Set Of People, Too Much Blood A Run from Morgan Heritage, Richie Spice with Weh The World Gone, Norris Man delivers Just To See Her Hair, Gyptian with Why, Juice with Bun Dem Up, Hold A Joy by Bescenta; Mama Mi Love So Much from Feed The Children director/producer/artiste Sammo T; What's Going On from Anthony B; Giving Love by Spanner Banner; Shoot Out by Turbulance; Jah Works from Snatcher Lion, Me and U Inna Business from Natural Black and newcomer Stamma G with his debut How Much Girl Mi Have. Radioland is giving tracks from the label a whole lot of love.

Feed The Children Africa will also release a medley video this month featuring Natural Black, Turbulance, Juice, Bescenta, Snatcher Lion, Gyptian and Anthony B. Feed The Children Africa is produced by Raymond Cameron, with Damion Allen as executive producer.

Cancelled Miami show ticked off patrons

Leaving Marcia Griffiths to ask, how could you do this to mothers – this is an insult.

luciano-marcia-griffiths-reggae-jamaica.jpgDisappointment was the sentiment shared by audience and artists alike as their hope of enjoying what was expected to be a Mothers Day show to remember, became shattered with the concert's sudden and late cancellation. Top reggae icons Marcia Griffiths and Luciano were billed for this special tribute to mothers at The Millennium Club in Miami, that had disgruntled patrons fed up with the unprofessional attitude of promoters who left them in the dark.

Not getting any announcements from promoters as to what was holding up the show, the crowd of only a handful - grew exceedingly restless and wondered aloud if the artists were a no show or what was the problem.
clickhere.jpg

"This is always the first perception that people have of artists - most of the time we get the bad name," Marcia Griffiths, seasoned performer and former member of the Bob Marley's I Threes, said. She was deeply hurt on a personal and professional level, as her reputation as a credible performer coupled with her inner desire to truly accommodate the wishes of reggae music lovers were being compromised.

In a radio interview on the following Monday, Winston Barnes asked the promoter to give further details on the circumstances causing the show's cancellation. Her response was consistent with the lame excuse given to concert goers the night before. She blamed technical difficulties.

This however, was not the tune being played by members of the backing band on Sunday night, who refused to strike the first note without securing payment in advance. "The production of this show was not professionally handled…too often promoters plan shows, making the grave mistake of waiting for gate receipts to pay the artists and musicians…that is the situation that marred this event," Griffiths stated.

Griffiths expressed distinct disappointment in not fulfilling her own desire to give mothers the opportunity they were eagerly anticipating. She said, "As a mother, I could relate, because most mothers had a great day and they came out with big expectations of closing off and enjoying their special day." Griffiths felt their pain and even mentioned getting the urge to pull the audience outside and perform for them on the side. She said, "I hate to be a part of this kind of experience, I am not a no show artist and this is one time we are not taking the blame, we were present and ready to perform."

Dead: Yolanda King Daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. at 51

By: CJ
Staff Writer

King_Yolanda2_martin_luther_king.jpgLess than a year and a half after the death of Coretta Scott King, widow of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr comes the untimely death of their eldest daughter Yolanda King. The 51 year old collapsed and died after making a speech late Tuesday in Santa Monica, California. The cause of death is currently unknown.

Former Mayor Andrew Young, who worked with her father in the civil rights movement and is a close family friend, recounts that Yolanda King had just spoken at an event for the American Heart Association. She was helping the association raise awareness, especially among blacks, about stroke. After the event, the California resident was on her way to her brother Dexter's home when she collapsed in the doorway and "they were not able to revive her," Young said.

In an official statement following her death, the King family noted that "She was an actress, author, producer, advocate for peace and non-violence, who was known and loved for her motivational and inspirational contributions to society." These accolades are fitting of Yolanda King who pursued her father's dream of racial harmony. She was an actress, ran a production company and appeared in several films, including "Ghosts of Mississippi."

Yolanda Denise King was born Nov. 17, 1955, in Montgomery, Ala., where her father was then preaching. Her brother Martin III was born in 1957; brother Dexter in 1961; and sister Bernice in 1963.

Gun Violence, not chatting violence - cancels Beenie Man show in UK

beenie-man-gun-violence-london=sexygirls-naked-girls-d'angel.jpgGun violence or the alleged threat of it, forced police in South London to put the brakes on a scheduled Beenie Man gig slated to take place on Mothers Day 2007. The club Coronet in Elephant & Castle was the scene of a bloody gun assault on the previous weekend and police said their intelligence indicated a repeat shoot out was being planned.

Club Coronet's close to fatal 'Black Music Night' that took place a week before on May 5th was a repeat of the same Black Music themed night, held the previous month. Simon Parks, club owner is reported by icSouthLondon as saying there were no problems at Black Music Night a month ago - he surely did not expect the mayhem of May 5th.
clickhere.jpg

One man is still in hospital with serious stomach wounds as he is one of three people injured during the shootout that took place despite what is reported as adequate security at the club. Speculations as to how a gun got through the tight security, with metal detectors and searches, are being tossed around, while police and the club's owner look for answers.

In an effort to prevent future incidents, police in Southwark have said there will be a review of the Club Coronet's licence. Parks reportedly expected a review of his licensing conditions following the shooting, but could not have expected Beenie Man's show cancellation.

Reggae artiste Chuck Fenda Blazin 'The Living Fire'

By: Olimatta Taal

chuck-fenda-reggae-living-fire.jpgSelf proclaimed "poor people's defender," Chuck Fenda, launched his new album, Living Fire at Weekendz, May 9, 2007. Most popularly known as a gangster deejay in the 90s, Fenda changed his lyrical content to reflect more positive music and swore to never switch again.

"I'm a messenger for the Almighty. My songs are inspirational songs. Hype and controversy will fade away in a moment. Inspirational music will be everlasting. Look at Bob Marley and Burning Spear, them man deh live on forever," Fenda said as he spoke of his inspiration to sing positive music.
clickhere.jpg

Released by Greensleeves Records, Living Fire has already started to make a buzz. One of the singles on the album, Gash Dem caused controversy in Jamaica and was immediately banned from radio airplay after release. Internationally, the tune sparked a flame that continues to burn. It was one of the biggest reggae anthems during its release year.

"Gash Dem clearly said that judgment was for the Almighty," explains Fenda firmly. He explained, "The lyrics were When God hold you nuh badda tell the Almighty bout maybe, so it is reminding the wicked people that their actions will be judged and they will be punished by the Almighty for their crimes. It wasn’t about my judgment or mankind's judgment so I don’t think I should be held responsible for the way people interpreted the song. The song never encouraged anybody to take punishment into their own hands."

Fenda began to show a more nurturing and loving side of himself with the release of Coming Over, featuring Cherine Anderson. This single continues to get regular rotation on major radio stations and the video is igniting and sensual to the heart. Other collaborations on the album include, 5th Elements, Richie Spice and one of dancehall's leading ladies, Tanya Stephens. Produced by one of Jamaica's premier producers, Shane Brown, the alum is powerful and thought provoking.

Born in the United States and raised in Spanish Town, Fend's childhood was anything but glamorous. But it built the foundation of his "poor people's defender" alter-ego. "Growing up, I had one pair of shoes and I had one school shirt that I had to wash and iron every day, so it was ready to wear to school the next day. So when I talk about representing for poor people, it comes naturally to me. I'm from that background, so I'm not unfamiliar with poverty. Even though I'm a musician, I still see people's struggles, and I feel it's my duty to represent for them in my music." It is Fenda's life struggles that gave him the living fire to create his newest album, Living Fire.

Chuck Fenda's 'Living Fire' album cover was shot by Carlington Wilmot who has over eight years experience in the field of professional photography.

Sugar Minott serenades Miami Moms

sugar_minott.jpgAnother one of Florida's Pre-Mothers Day grooves saw Sugar Minott in his usual full form at Miami's Naomi Gardens on May 12. Dubbed Sugar Minott and Friends in concert, the night consisted of reggae's great "Lincoln Sugar" being joined by King Banton and Murray Marshall with The Nubian Players backing band.

An outpouring of love songs dedicated to mothers left a very receptive audience wanting more. King Banton performed very well setting the stage for Marshall's vibrant 30 minute set, that in turn prepared the crowd for Sugar Minott's dynamism.

Dedicating a few love songs to his own mother, now 86 years old, Sugar Minott did not disappoint despite some technical difficulties. Naomi Gardens was seeped in a pleasing ethnic - yard vibe.

Allison Hinds uncovered her musical might at a night called "Naked"

Allison-Hindes-soca-carnival.jpgAllison Hinds rocked Fort Lauderdale's Revolution on May 12, ushering in Mothers Day 2007 for a capacity crowd. Uncovering her might as a performance artist, Hinds headlined an evening billed as - "Naked" - where the sounds, Black Chiney, Renegade and Bambino infused raw force in their own renditions of exposing Caribbean sounds.

People in the audience appeared mesmerized by Hinds especially during her "fast wining" session with one equally agile audience member. Hinds took this unsuspecting man on a trip to Trinidad that far outweighed Akon's recent African tour given to a Trinidadian female fan.

Hinds' "fast wine" was full of energy, but highly decent, with both dancers further igniting the vibes that was already spelling sexy, classy and definitely cool.

Absolute Entertainment arranged a proper package that included Caribbean food on the side as well as an ever reassuring and tight security.

Joe says Nanko is loco, does it take one to know one?

By Olimatta Taal

Nanko-sexygirls-downsound.jpgAfter several successful singles and the blossoming of a great music career, Nanko has left Downsound Records. Well, that's how it appeared from the outside looking in. The world saw this young gifted artist making waves for himself but the reality of it was that he was depressed and wasn't getting paid for the work he was doing. YardFlex.com had an opportunity to talk to Joe Bogdanivich, Vonnie McGowan, and Meliea Brown about the situation.

Bogdanivich, who has been managing Nanko's career also signed him to his record label, recently filed a lawsuit against Nanko asking for the recoup of monies for shows that were booked since the time that Nanko disappeared off the island. "Nanko is crazy; really I am tired of seeing his face. He signed a contract with me and then left the island. I have no idea where he is and have not talked to him," Bogdanivich said. "Concerns raised by Nanko in the new contract were modified; he signed the contract and then left the island. He refuses to take calls, respond to emails or communicate. Downsound has had to cancel concerts and it has spoiled Downsound's reputation. There is no truth that Downsound took money for shows and didn't pay Nanko, this act is a breach of contract," explained Bogdanivich.
clickhere.jpg

After a little investigation into the situation it just seemed very ironic that Jr. Kelly was the first artist to stop working with Bogdanivich, then Fanton Moja, Thriller U, and now Nanko. So we decided to locate Nanko to find out exactly what happened and were able to locate him in Miami. According to Vonnie McGowan, Nanko's present representative, "Nanko was uncomfortable in the situation because he was not being paid. He was traveling all over the world, with no money. There was a contract - both a management contract and recording contract with Joe. No one had seen that contract until March 9th; he was not privileged to see the contract."

McGowan continued to explain that Bogdanivich was going around telling members of the press, Nanko was crazy and had mental issues. "Joe says that Nanko is crazy, but Nanko had been diagnosed and was being treated for a common mental disability. Joe helped the family find a doctor for Nanko when Joe signed Nanko in the beginning. Nanko was admitted to the hospital and got medical attention and was put on medication. It was during that time that Joe had him sign the contract, during the time of diminished capability. Nanko's mom came to Jamaica; we had a meeting with Joe, Nanko and two sisters in a hotel room. During the meeting, Joe said that he doesn't like to be interrogated but we wanted to know what was happening with Nanko's money. He hadn't been receiving any money."

Nanko's living situation was described by McGowan as being unstable, "He lived in a disturbing neighborhood, and was scared to go home at night. That's when Joe gave him a house in St.Andrew to stay in. He stayed there 20 days prior to the hotel room meeting. He could not have visitors in that remote area, so he would come in the city and sleep at the studio."

"We requested to see the contract at this meeting," McGowan said, while explaining that it was the first time Nanko had seen the contract. "We discussed the contract clause by clause, then asked Joe why he didn't allow the young man to have a copy of the contract and show a relative for a second opinion. Joe's response was that Jamaicans are illiterate people and that is when the meeting broke."

The family decided to give Bogdanivich a second meeting. He wanted to continue working with Nanko and suggested a compromise be reached to iron out questionable issues. McGowan began to explain the contract and some of the issues, "He wants to work with Nanko because he is talented, but he has him working all over the world and for insufficient renumeration.

"For example, in the contract, Clause 6 states: For show and concert bookings, split compensation according to schedule. a) for bookings generating of $3-6000, Nanko gets $1000. $6-8000, 2000 goes to Nanko; $8-10,000 and Nanko receives 3000. Over 10,000, 40% is what Nanko is owed. All advances, future income 50/50 and 25% mismanagement fee. This sounds like slavery, there is no way you can have someone under these conditions," McGowan expounded.

The contract stated that Joe would facilitate everything. Another clause in the contract shows that he agreed to provide JA$10,000 per month, travel and clothing expenses. McGowan claims that Nanko never got most of it, "We question the JA$10,000, for the last two years he made 10 deposits and was suppose to put in 52. Nanko was displeased with his service; it was not in Nanko's interest. For his sanity and peace of mind that is why he left the island."

McGowan went on further to say, "When Joe decided to do the contract over, they coerced Nanko into signing it by bullying and blackmailing him. He had Nanko sign the contract without legal representation. When Nanko refused to sign the contract, he was staying in the house that Joe provided and Joe threw him out. His mom came from Miami and took him. Nanko asked to have a lawyer present while he was signing the contract but Joe threatened him and told him that he would tell the world that he had a mental problem."

"Nanko does not like to be reminded about his disability. Joe made him sign a paper that a lawyer had not looked at. Joe sent people to his sister's house to intimidate Nanko. The sisters explained what happen to Nanko and the people were sympathetic," McGowan explained.

The harassment did not stop there. McGowan described how Nanko bought a vehicle from doing specials and Joe seized his car. When he purchased the car, he used $6,000 that he earned independently as a down payment. Apparently, Joe lent him $1700 as an advance in income and Nanko paid the money back to him from a Surinam show. Joe offered to register and insure the car under Downsound.

Joe also spoke on air that Nanko is mentally ill and that he ran away but McGowan claims that they were not given any itineraries, no advances, and no show dates. "Joe has not given him any money, even the perdium Nanko has not got in his hands. He controls all Nanko's income, its frustrating for the artist and the family. It's embarrassing to travel and not have money. His mom has taken over his legal guardianship so Joe has to deal with her," ended Vonnie.

When talking to Meliea Brown, Nanko's mom she talked about how Nanko was doing and his intentions of picking up the pieces of his career. “With the assistance of Donovin Blair his road manager, we are recording in the studio. Nanko's love is to sing and record. As long as he is doing music, he is okay. It makes him feel good and he does that best. We are setting up bookings; he is not able to perform in Jamaica now. Joe placed an injunction on him so we apologize to all the Jamaican promoters and producers. The lawyer has advised us not to perform in Jamaica until the legal issues have been sorted," explained Mrs. Brown enthusiastic about moving on. She continues to brief us, "We have already begun to countersuit. Because of Nanko's disability we have to work on his legal guardianship. Joe Bogdanivich took advantage of him. Joe was so nice to him in the beginning, now he is the one saying that Nanko is loco. Nanko is so gentle he doesn't want to do anything but we want to let the truth be known. We need to book Nanko and get as much work as we can for him. I have spoken to Joe several times and there is no truth about him not being able to contact us. He even sent Nanko an email that they will come and get him. Joe has been slandering Nanko and it's not fair. We just want to move forward."

Mother or not, celebrate with "Soulmate"

An uplifting film that penetrates every emotion felt by women at different moments

By: Janice Dayle

_soulmate2006.jpgOn the same side as Mother's Day, is the celebration of life, love and God. For all women, that includes the celebration of self. An uplifting documentary called "Soulmate" joins in this celebration, giving viewers a riveting cinematic journey into the realities facing successful, saved and single African American women today.

Andrea Wiley is the documentary's filmmaker who recognises the films propensity to impact and even change the lives of women. She stated, "I believe that we're all born with a hole in our souls and it can't be filled with money, career success, sex, material things or even our families. Only God can fill it."
clickhere.jpg

Inspiration came from casual conversations with women close to Wiley that revealed an undercurrent of extreme loneliness and a general pattern of singleness that was not altogether satisfying for a broader demographic than she expected. Discovering statistics that included numbers indicating: Black women are five times more likely to remain single at 40 than White women and The more money and education a black woman has, the less likely she is to ever get married or have children - moved Wiley to action and soon she was creating a full length feature film on the subject.

"Soulmate" gives voice to the thoughts of successful, single women who love God, but desire a mate. Each opinion shared by the narrators speaks to the heart and soul of every woman." Revealing the trials and triumphs of unforgettable women, the documentary offers hope and practical advice on issues such as loneliness, the desire for sexual intimacy, men on the "down low", the ticking biological clock and the uncertainty of the future, giving surprising revelations about the quest for one's true "Soulmate".

Wiley, who has written, produced and directed four other documentaries is Jamaican born and was raised Brooklyn. Her first calling was to electrical engineering, for which she earned a degree from Boston University. In 1993 her television writing and producing experience took form and Wiley has since amassed an extensive body of work including network comedy series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "The Jamie Fox Show." For "The Parkers" starring Mo'Nique, Wiley served as Executive Director.

Currently residing in Los Angeles, the mother of two sons says, "With all the blessings that I've been given, none of them compares to the deep joy and fulfillment that I receive from my personal and intimate relationship with God."

Stephen Marley - Traffic Jam in Times Square

By S. Sharpe

stephen marley10617.jpgPowerful, energetic, inspired and nostalgic are just a few words that come to mind when describing Stephen Marley's performance at New York's Nokia Theatre in Times Square on May 11, 2007. The Grammy Award winning artist performed to a sold out audience of 2,000+ adrenaline filled fans.

Songs from Stephen's highly acclaimed solo album Mind Control, which dropped back in March 2007, kept the audience energized and in-tuned. The title track, Lonely Avenue, Hey Baby, Chase Dem, Iron Bars featuring New York native Mr. Cheeks and The Traffic Jam, supported by Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley, were definite crowd pleasers.

Soul satisfying renditions of tunes from his father's catalogue were met with pumped fists and amplified movement as the audience harmonized with the words of Slave Driver, Chant Down Babylon, No Woman No Cry and Buffalo Soldier among others.

clickhere.jpg

Damian joined his brother on stage for a highly-charged session of musical rhapsody, culminated by the beloved Welcome To Jamrock. From Pimpers Paradise to It Was Written and Could You Be Loved the Marley boys delivered a rare dose of rhythmic genius true to their lineage and individual talents.

The show closed with a spirited rendering of the Bob Marley classic Exodus, during which Damian and Stephen were joined by K'Naan, a young Somalian-Canadian emcee with a truly authentic sound.

The crowd was hype, the performance was explosive and with the words "Rastafari Live!" Stephen Marley left the message of Mind Control fixed in the consciousness of all in attendance.

The Mind Control US Tour 2007 runs through late May.

Ms Triniti - The meteoric rise continues

By: Joseph Cunningham

ms-triniti-sexygirls-naked-girls-rihanna-beyonce-jay-z-ne-yo.jpgMs Triniti continues to gain recognition and respect from countless established Artistes and Producers. Sean Paul recently requested that she accompany him on US and Japan tours, where she was well received. As a result Ms Triniti decided to release her second album, "Do Or Dare" in both those countries on April 12.

To date Ms Triniti has also toured with major recording artists such as Ja Rule, D12, Kevin Lyttle and Elephant Man. She was even sought out by Mario Winan's to record a track and has been featured on Beenie Man's upcoming album, with the collaboration entitled, "Bling Bling Eyes," as well as on two songs with Baby Cham for his new release.

Still at an early stage in her career, Ms Triniti has recorded with an impressive roster of major Producers in Reggae/Dancehall, including Salaam Remi, Troyton Rami, Lenky Marsden, Steve Moralis, Sly and Robbie and Dave Kelly. With two albums, five videos, excellent stage presence and a rapidly growing fan base, Ms.Triniti is perhaps one of the hottest, unsigned artistes for any label out there.

Recently, Ms Triniti's single, 'Bongce Along' with E-Dee entered the Billboard Hip Hop/RnB Singles Chart at #16. Ms. Triniti is becoming a household name in Jamaica with her songs and videos are in rotation on many international top stations and music television channels.

E-Dee ready to rock the world with his chart topping sound

By: Joseph Cunningham

edee-reggae-japan-ms-triniti-sexygirls-naked.jpgNot many artistes out of Jamaica can claim having been on the Billboard Top 25 Hip-Hop R&B Sales chart. E-Dee has however, been doing just that as he is featured on Ms Triniti's newest smash "Bongce Along". The 25 year old artist out of Clarendon, Jamaica is experiencing a breakthrough in the US market since spending the last five weeks as a chart topper. Already in Japan he is ready for his second full-length CD release and has appeared on four compilation CDs out of Japan. With two videos in rotation on Hype, CVM and Irie-FM in Jamaica, and US radio picking up his single "R U Ready" and "Between the Sheets" E-Dee could soon step into the international mainstream.

Born Everton Dennis, E-Dee was the youngest of eight siblings. His musical career began in the church, where he sang in the choir. His mother was very religious and did not allow E-Dee to listen to music other than gospel because she considered dancehall/reggae to be profane. So E-Dee's early musical experience was steeped in gospel. Suddenly his mother passed without warning when he was 12 years old and a young E-Dee had to grow up quickly. Working hard to earn money for his school uniform and books, E-Dee learnt dedication and focus very early, having to take care of himself. Applied to his musical career, that diligence brought E-Dee to his dreams. After completing his secondary education he moved to America to pursue his music career and to study to become an Actor. While in the U.S. E-Dee's steady exposure to Hip-Hop and R&B began to influence his writing, infusing the American slang with Jamaican Patois E-Dee's sound began to evolve.
clickhere.jpg

Ending up in Los Angeles, E-Dee began performing at showcases. Word soon got out about this 6'5" rapper from Jamaica that was building a following. It wasn't long before promoters began putting E-Dee on the bill of major festivals. With two CDs selling strong in the streets, E-Dee was soon sharing the stage with the biggest names in Dancehall/Reggae including Sizzla, Wayne Wonder, Ce'Cile, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Beres Hammond, Lady Saw and the list goes on. Not to be ruled out as only a dancehall/reggae favourite his cross-over appeal has landed him shows opening for Hip-Hop artists D-12 and Ja Rule and got him collaborations with Capitol recording artist Houston.

In 2004 platinum record producer Qmillion sought out E-Dee to collaborate with Junior P. and Ms Triniti on the song "Hot Again" which was one of E-Dee's four collaborations with Ms Triniti on her debut album Ragga Hop. Qmillion was so impressed with E-Dee's talent that he immediately signed him to Unseen Lab Recordings and began recording a full length CD with E-Dee. During the recording of the album E- Dee headed to New York to film a cameo appearance in the urban action film "The Party" starring RL from the R&B group Next, and Darryl Hammond from Saturday Night Live. This work led to him landing a lead role in the upcoming feature film "Overkill" co-starring Malik Yoba due for release in 2008. E-Dee is also featured on the soundtrack of the 2007 movie, "I Think I Love My Wife" starring Chris Rock. On this collaborative effort he is joined by Black Shakespere and Terence Yoshiaki, a founding member of the Black Eye Peas. While many dancehall CDs focus on the subject of women, E-Dee's 18 song album entitled, "JA 2 LA 2 DI WORLD" takes you along his life's journey, touching on many subjects from the struggles of surviving in Babylon, to jealousy and envy of haters in the industry, to party life in the clubs on the dancefloor, to love and relationships, to the last song on the CD dedicated to his mother, "Mamma".

The first release from the album is the double single "R U Ready" an up tempo club banger and "Between The Sheets" a lovers-rock reggae version of the Isley Brothers hit. The double single is gaining momentum around the U.S. topping regional charts in Connecticut, Los Angles, Miami and more. The music video for "R U Ready" shot in Compton, California, will be serviced to BET and other outlets this fall and features a cameo appearance by Amorossa from The Apprentice and The Surreal Life. The sound of E-Dee's album "JA 2 LA 2 DI WORLD" represents a new sound in dancehall/reggae, influenced by Hip-Hop and R&B that is appealing to a whole new market as well as dancehall's traditional fans. Energetic, exciting, emotional and raw this artist is poised to be the next Jamaican to capture the attention of music lovers around the world and take dancehall/reggae to the next level. 2007 brings the release of his second single "Revolution" featuring "Irie Love" an adaptation of the classic hit by Dennis Brown. The reworking of this song with additional lyrics by E-Dee hits the streets this spring and the early response in clubs is - pure shots.

Macka Diamond has written Jamaica's first official Dancehall Novel - 'Bun Him!!!'

bun-him-novel-dancehall-macka-diamond-sexygirls.jpgBUN HIM!!!... ...The novel, picks up where the controversial hit song of the same name, by Macka Diamond and Black-Er, left off not so long ago. If you liked the song, you will DEFINATELY love the novel.

BUN HIM!!! Is set in today's day and age, using today's vernacular, familiar names and places, making it relevant to the times as it captures every aspect of the dancehall vibes. To add authenticity and depth, Macka uses Kingston as the backdrop and dancehall music as the soundtrack.

The target audience is bound to relate .....

Finally you will get the full hundred on who's bunning who, and why, and even sweeter than that, you'll discover the third party's identity. Think that's interesting? ... ... Wait, there's more, because like the saying goes, 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you,' something which applies very much to the laws of bunning.

Just like the song, the novel steps on corns, even coming across a bit bold, maybe even a bit risky at times, but at the end of the day, 'BUN HIM!!!' depicts a harsh and heartbreaking reality, but at the same time, does exactly what it was designed to do; teach a very valuable lesson... ... a lesson that so many in society need to be reminded of....
clickhere.jpg

'The grass is not always greener on the other side.'

'BUN HIM!!!' Flirts with the all too familiar scenario of unfaithfulness in society as a whole. We have all heard the stories, or may even have been a participating party, but either way; one thing is for sure, if you are Jamaican, you know what 'BUN' means.

bun-him-novel-dancehall-macka-diamond-sexygirls-rihanna.jpgAnd with that said, let me introduce you to Sandra.
Sandra is from the ghetto, but if you think she is your average 'ghetto girl,' think again! No, she is not average by a long shot. On the contrary, if Sandra was to tell it, she was not just one, but more like a few cuts above that reality.

Some think she is just a little too much at times, but then again, the girl does have reasons to act the way she does. Not only is she is young, beautiful, smart and sexy, able to make heads turn constantly, with a body that would make a Christian become a certified sinner, but beyond all that, she is also married to man who worships the very ground she walks on. Compared to the life she was accustomed to, (prior to getting married to Larry, a successful businessman from an upper-class family, who incidentally, is almost twice her age), a lot has changed. No longer does she have to deal with the discomfort of public transportation, lack of anything, or the depression and vulgarity of the ghetto. No!.... All those things are of her past, a past she has no interest in even remembering, let alone re-visit, - Why should she, when the finer things in life are hers for the taking?

Women can't seem to stand her, but damn near every man wants her. From head to toe she's got it going on, but beyond the calm, a storm is raging!

Some women would do anything to be in Sandra's designer shoes, especially Tiffany, her so-called best friend, but beyond all the material and financial elevation, Sandra is unhappy, frustrated with Larry's inability to satisfy her, both emotionally and sexually - She grits her teeth and bears it, but...

With Calvin, a friend from the past, stepping into her present, with eyes set on the future, things become just a little complicated, especially with him not only delivering what Larry hasn't in months, satisfying her sexual appetite, but at the same time, Calvin does almost instantly, what Larry has failed at for over a year, (getting her pregnant). - Things get real tricky with a child on the way, and takes a turn for the worst with Calvin demanding that she leave Larry and move in with him. The plot thickness when she realizes what she stands to lose, if she should leave her husband for Calvin. A man, who if the truth be told, had nothing to offer except what Larry couldn't seem to deliver if his life depended on it, some HOT WUK!

In Sandra's book, only two things mattered in life, hot wuk and money, plenty of it. With Larry she had the money, but with Calvin, the story was slightly different.... Yea, she had it all, just not in one place, and if she was brave enough to admit it, she would do exactly what she really wanted to do; leave Larry for the man who brought out her high pitched voice and made her tingle with delight.

But figet dat, 'cause wata dey yah more dan flour ... ...

'Puss gone, rat tek charge!' ... Because while Sandra is busy dealing with emotional drama and Calvin's ever growing demands, Tiffany, (Sandra's best friend) has a few plans of her own for Larry, (Sandra's husband).

With Sandra so caught up with baby father drama and making life-changing decisions, she misses what is happening right under her nose, because in the midst of all her doings, what she fails to realize is that she is on the verge of not only being replaced, but on the verge of being replaced by her best friend!

Coming SOON to a location near you.

'BUN HIM!!!'
Passa-Passa and Bun fi Bun inna one!

Ne-Yo scores second #1 album debut, as Because of You nets first week

sales of 251,000!!

ne-yo-sexygirls-beyonce-rihanna-jay-z-naked-girls.jpgGrammy-nominated Def Jam recording artist and chart topping songwriter Ne-Yo has scored his second #1 career debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart with his second album, BECAUSE OF YOU, which arrived in stores on May 1st. The album sold over 200,000 copies in its first week of release and has debuted at the #3 spot on the digital chart.

BECAUSE OF YOU is the follow-up to Ne-Yo's RIAA platinum-selling debut album In My Own Words, which hit #1 on the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, and was nominated for a Grammy as Best Contemporary R&B Album. Ne-Yo capped 2006 when he was named Male R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards.

BECAUSE OF YOU was propelled to #1 position by the hit single "Because Of You," which is Top 10 on both the R&R (Radio & Records) BDS Urban and M.Base/Urban charts. The second single pick from the album, "Do You," will hit radio later this month.
clickhere.jpg

After making TV appearances on ABC's Live with Regis & Kelly, NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, PBS's The Tavis Smiley Show, and CBS's The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Ne-Yo is now preparing for an 18-city nationwide tour in support of his #1 album. Dates begin on May 31st at The Norva in Norfolk, Virginia, extended through July 5th at Six Flags in San Antonio, Texas. Opening for Ne-Yo will be R&B crooner, Trey Songz.

Most recently, Ne-Yo was credited as co-writer of Beyonce's hit single"Irreplaceable." As noted in the January 20th issue of Billboard, "Irreplaceable" had just made its best audience week, which was the #2 highest total audience impressions in Nielsen - BDS history (i.e. since 1992). The song with the #3 all-time highest audience total was also co-written by Ne-Yo - namely Mario's "Let Me Love You."

Ne-Yo has founded The Compound Foundation which is committed to service at risk and disadvantaged youth. In addition to building two new group homes in the Atlanta area, The Compound Foundation will sponsor performances, motivational speakers and mentorship opportunities with leaders and business people within the community.

Critical raves for BECAUSE OF YOU:

"The first single and title track is a jaunty ode to addictive love, that could easily be an Off The Wall-era leftover. Then on the breezy tune, 'Crazy,' label boss Jay-Z states plainly: 'Ne-Yo's like young Michael/ I'm Quincy Hov.' Ne-Yo's Prince moments - the rousing 'Addicted' and the piano-driven 'Sex With My Ex' - both sizzle with loads of bedroom boasting but without seeming crass." (Associated Press)

"Ne-Yo's sunny, fluid tenor and the wistfully romantic, infectious tunes he co-writes will bring fans of a certain age back to a time in pop music and pop culture that seems, in retrospect, endearingly guileless." (USA TODAY)

Mr. Vegas' "Hot Wuk" added to three major hip-hop radio stations

mr.vegas-hot-wuk-sexygirls-naked-girls-rihanna-jay-zbeyonce.jpg

Big news! The 'Hot Wuk' is steaming! Vegas has scored another biggie with this one as it was recently added to the Hot 97, WZMX 93.7fm and WMBX 102.3fm play list.

Hot 97 which is based in New York is one of the biggest hip-hop/R&B stations in the US, WZMX 93.7fm located in Hartford Connecticut which is the #1 hip-hop and R&B radio station in that state and WMBX 102.3fm from West Palm Beach, Florida also has a wide hip-hop and R&B listener ship throughout West Palm Beach and Port St. Lucie, Florida areas, it is anticipated that it will create a domino effect on Vegas' song.

His inclusion on these play list spells big things for the singjay's song as these stations are mostly hip-hop and R&B based which will generate waves in the hip-hop and R&B world.
clickhere.jpg

Not that "Hot Wuk" needs much to keep it going. Ever since its release it seemed to have created a fire all on its own. The song has by far exceeded Vegas' expectations. It has peaked at number one positions on charts such as New York, Hype TV, Re TV singles and ER in Jamaica.

Still this is not the first time Vegas' song has found its way on the play list of these red-hot radio stations. He did it with the mega hit 'Heads High', 'Hot Gal Today' a combination with Sean Paul which was voted as one of the all time duets by Vibe Magazine and 'Pull Up'.

Riding hot on the heels of the 'Hot Wuk' is the song for the most used slang now in Jamaica 'Tek Weh Yuhself'. It is now number two on Hype TV singles chart and number one on RE TV.

Going into the summer Vegas is one of the hottest and most in demand artiste right now. Continuing in this trend you can be sure to see him on most of top summer shows coming up.

Something else to look forward to too in the summer from Vegas is his next album which is expected to drop.

Akon under investigation

By - CJ
Staff Writer

Danah-Alleyne-akon-dance-beyonce-jay-rihanna.jpgDuring an April 12 concert in Trinidad, Akon announced a "dance contest" that featured a grand-prize trip to Africa. Danah Alleyne, the 14-year-old daughter of a pastor, was among seven females that joined Akon on stage to compete for a chance to dance with the Senegalese rapper. Danah won the "contest" but the reward was not a trip to the Continent of Africa. Akon announced that he was "Africa" and proceeded to simulate multiple aggressive sexual positions with the girl as the crowd cheered.

After a local TV station aired the footage and websites broadcast the dry rape around the globe, Danah made a public apology that she "got carried away." In her statement she explained that she started to dance as well, "But I never thought it was going to be like that. I was shocked. My head was hitting the floor." Her rendition of the incident seemed much milder than the video, that showed her entire body being tossed around the stage as Akon forcefully had his way with her.
clickhere.jpg

Danah's father, Pastor Dave Alleyne of the Flaming Word Ministry of Chaguanas, who described the situation as "atrocious", told The Trinidad Express that his daughter was not in control of the situation. "She likes dancing and won a competition," Alleyne said. Many members of his congregation want Akon banned from public performances in the area.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad, Patrick Manning, has demanded a formal investigation into the incident. In a statement, he said, "That kind of thing should never be allowed to happen in this country."

Internet videos exposed that this isn't the first time that Akon has been caught on tape dancing in this atrocious way. The online video networks quickly jumped on the bandwagon and aired actress Tara Reid dancing to Akon's smash hit "Smack Dat." In the equally offensive video, Akon playfully smacked the Hollywood actress on her ass and was then sandwiched between the singer and another man.

As the investigation continues, the self-proclaimed "Konvict" is definitely being penalized for his crime. Verizon pulled their TV spots featuring Akon watching his own Verizon Wireless V Cast. The communications company severed ties with the Senegalese singer. They have removed Akon's featured ringtones, as well as music and artwork from Akon's platinum-selling album "Konvicted," from Verizon Wireless stores and handsets. The Company also pulled their sponsorship of the Stefani/Akon tour. In a statement to Fox News, Verizon's representative said, "The partnership ended."

Usher fires Mom as manager?

By -- CJ
Staff Writer

usher-mother-rihanna-beyonce-sexygirls-naked-nude.jpgYardFlex.com has confirmed rumours brewing for a week that had Usher on the verge of firing his Manager, Jonnetta Patton, his own mother. In a statement on May 7, the R&B crooner made it official. "She and I are on great terms and support each other in our life's endeavours. We are both very happy but are now working in different areas of the business." Usher expressed the joy he felt in having his mom be a mother, without the pressure of spearheading his career path.

The rumour mill suggested Usher's fiancée and former stylist, Tameka Foster pulled the strings of Patton's dismissal since she let her go as his stylist. There was also suggestion that Foster would take over as Manager. These rumours were again put to bed. In an official statement to the Associated Press, Usher said that his fiancée has no intention of managing him or anyone else's career. "She has no aspirations of becoming my manager or any other artist's manager," he confirmed.
clickhere.jpg

Since Usher's engagement last March to Tameka, a mother of three, he appears to be more tuned into family life. "At this time in my life, I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family; and in order to do that, I feel it's best to separate my business life from my personal life," he said.

Time out with Ms. Kelly Rowland

Kelly-beyonce-jay-z-rihanna-sexygirls-naked-janet-jackson-d'angel.jpgThey say that change can be a good thing. Just ask Kelly Rowland, a founding member of Destiny's Child, the top-selling female recording group of all-time, and a best-selling Grammy-winning solo artist in her own right.

By 2006, Destiny's Child had wrapped the group's "Destiny Fulfilled" farewell tour and Kelly Rowland -- who'd successfully debuted as a solo artist in 2002 with a global smash album, Simply Deep, and a chart-topping Grammy-winning hit single, "Dilemma" -- decided to record her second solo album, a collection of new songs reflecting who she was and where she was going as a woman and as an artist.

The result, Ms. Kelly is the long-awaited successor to Rowland's best-selling 2002 solo debut album, Simply Deep, which has sold more than 2.5 copies worldwide, debut at #1 in the UK and Australia. Simply Deep showcased the smash hit, "Dilemma," Kelly's duet with the rapper Nelly, which earned the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2003 and spent 10 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.
clickhere.jpg

By 2005 and the release of Destiny Child's chart-topping #1's album, Kelly could see that her creative impulses were heading in new directions and decided to express that joy and freedom on her latest album. "Yeah," Kelly says, radiating confidence, "I'm totally proud of what I initially worked on but the more I lived with it, the more I grew to realize that I wanted to really focus on where I am today. I said, 'Kelly. You're 25 years old! You like to party and you want your songs to be played in clubs.' I wanted to my new record to sound as young as I feel, so that's what I focused on."

The result is the eagerly-awaited Ms. Kelly. Featuring production from some of the most innovative names in the game -- including Polow Da Don, Sean Garrett, Tank, Scott Storch, Rockwilder, SoulShock and Karlin, and Billy Mann -- as well as guest appearances from Eve and Snoop Dogg, Ms. Kelly is 100% Kelly Rowland 2007: sexy, honest, playful, and passionate. "I really put my heart and soul into this record," she enthuses, "and not only am I excited that everyone's going to hear the music, I'm looking forward to people getting to hear the real me. That's the reason I called the album Ms. Kelly. Because the title is all about respect, being an adult and that's how I feel about my life, and my music. I know it's kind of a cliché to say, but Ms. Kelly really is the album I was meant to make."

You can hear it on her jump-off single, "Like This," featuring Eve. Hip-shaking, bass- blessed and hot-wired with a sassy vibe, "Like This" sends a clear message to the fellas: don't mess with Ms. Kelly.

Cowritten by Kelly and Sean Garrett ("Ring The Alarm," "Yeah"), produced by Polow Da Don ("London Bridge") and featuring Eve, "Like This" kicks off Ms. Kelly with attitude, which was exactly what Kelly had in mind. "Destiny's Child had always had such great experiences with Sean," Kelly says. "So I thought, let me try him on my album. Polow already had this hot track. I loved the sound of the cowbell; it was so different! Sean and I started writing and he said, 'Kelly this is your first single' and it turned out he was right." Kelly took a break from recording the song and when she and Sean returned to the studio she had a flash of inspiration. "I just heard Eve on this song," she recalls. "I knew her energy belonged on the song and, just like that, it all came together. Then I knew: this was the single."

Ms. Kelly premieres the fab collaboration "Ghetto," produced by Tank and featuring Snoop Dogg. "'Ghetto' is about good girls who dig bad boys and it's one of my favorites," Kelly admits. "As soon as Tank played it, I knew and recorded it in an hour. 'Ghetto' is just so laid back and that's why I had to have Snoop. He just gives it that something. I like it when a song can make you feel good."

Although working with Snoop and Eve were dreams come true, Kelly wanted to keep the collaborations on her new album to a minimum. "I always get something when I collaborate," she says, "but this time I wanted to show more of myself."

That emotional honesty is evident on "This Is Love," the album's closing track. A mid-tempo coda to an otherwise upbeat collection, "This Is Love" is a song that Kelly's wanted to record ever since producer/co-writer Billy Mann played it for her four years ago. Profoundly open in its perspective, showcasing one of Kelly's strongest vocal performances, "This Is Love" was originally written for a movie soundtrack. When the project fell through Kelly held on to the song. "The timing worked out perfectly because now it's on my album," she says happily. "I love the song. It feels timeless and it speaks about how to be open with love. Even when things go bad and you're hurt, you still have to be open and whenever it comes you'll know that this is love."

Hospitalised following stroke, Barry G doing well

Barrington "Barry G" Gordon, described also as "The Godfather" of Jamaican airwaves, is currently convalescing well after suffering a stroke in late April. The ace radio personality, who was a force to be reckoned with throughout the eighties and beyond was reportedly on his way to Florida from Jamaica, when startling symptoms left him shaken and in need of physical assistance and subsequent hospitalisation.

The 50 year old, who was fine tuning plans for a return to radio is said to be most concerned about the stroke’s affect on his commanding speech and diction, qualities he's honed since those 1975 JBC training days. With enunciation, or lack of it being Barry G's primary critique of radio hosts in this millennium, it is no surprise that a speedy recovery in this area is paramount to him, as he undergoes intensive therapy.
clickhere.jpg

Amazing the medical team assigned to his care with unusual and rapid progress, Barry G still strives to achieve his aim of making a comeback on the air. Once he has conquered the lack of fluency left to him by the untimely stroke, Jamaicans and global fans will once again be able to listen out for a radio show host who will deliver much more than the popular juggling and mixing of the hottest rhythms, currently perpetuated by many Jamaican disc jocks.

Starting off at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC), Barry G went from radio producer to host of his own show, 'Turntable Time' after 3 years. This success led to a 6 hour Saturday afternoon programme called 'Boogie Down'. Thirteen years later, Barry G went over to Radio Jamaica (RJR), taking his high ratings with him only to return to JBC 2 years later. After co-founding Power 106, he went on to Hot 102 until 2001. Freelancing in the international syndicated radio arena has kept Barry G busy and his return to regular Jamaican radio is highly anticipated by fans.

Barry G once spoke of the important role show hosts play in imparting pertinent information to radio audiences and he is no doubt spending this time gearing up to do just that.

joins the world in wishing Barry G a speedy recovery

Underhanded promotion triggers bootleg practice

By: Joseph Cunningham

LA-lewis-reggae-japan-sexygirls.jpg

'If a bootleg wi shoot leg.' This was Vybz Kartel's utterance as he ascended the podium at the launch of his new album in 2004.
The bootleg issue has plagued the Reggae/Dancehall since technology has made it possible, and, concerns have increased since the resurgence of the genre on the international mainstream has not brought a much desired 'organized system'.

Dancehall artiste LA.Lewis believes that an organized system can only be manifested through the establishment of corporate enterprises that govern the industry. He explained," There needs to be a big building in Jamaica that represents the headquarters of Reggae/Dancehall music, from the charts to the Reggae archives." He added that where it concerns bringing and keeping the financial profits of the music in Jamaica, it all begins with the local radio stations, producers and the artistes.
clickhere.jpg

LA.Lewis argued that the very controversial practice of payola in Jamaica hinders development for particularly younger or new artistes who are unable to compete with those paying top dollars for airplay.. Further he said that this underhanded practice sustains the bootleg culture, because artistes and producers see mixtapes as the alternative to the radio. He continued, "The financial challenge posed by payola then causes producers and artistes to turn to mixtape engineers in order to promote their material."

It is common knowledge that the mixtape option eliminates the potential for royalties to be gained from music. It is also becoming increasingly evident that the Japanese and the European Reggae/Dancehall markets are much more prosperous than the 'birthplace', Jamaica. LA.Lewis said that when the Japanese and the European come to Jamaica, they take the easily accessible mixtape back to their well organized music industries, where they make huge profits.

"Many persons do not know that the Japanese Reggae sound system Mighty Crown has its own Nike sponsored shoe line! It's unfortunate that Stone Love, the world leading Reggae sound system does not even have a T-shirt line," he revealed

Macka Diamond scores third #1

macka-diamond-sexygirls-beenie-man-d'angel-rihanna.jpgQueen of the dancehall Macka Diamond has scored her third number one song with the very hot 'Hula Hoop'.

She did it the first time with 'Done Already' then followed up with the women's anthem 'Bun Him' which was done in combination with Black-er.

Now she is at it again with 'Hula Hoop' a song which seems to have taken a life of its own. It topped the Richie B charts, was number one on RE TV singles charts and now it is perched at the top of the Hype TV singles chart.

This female DJ is certainly on a roll as she won the IRIE FM and Richie B' EME Awards for Female DJ of the year.

Last Saturday Macka gave the Dancing Dynamite a whale of a time as she along with the host did the hula hoop dance.

Her video medley Don't Move/Gangsta Wife was premiered on Entertainment Report last Friday and is now enjoying good rotation on all cable stations.

Macka just returned from Antigua where she and Baby Cham
performed in front of 7000 people last weekend.

Steven Marley's 'Mind Control' tour review - positive energy and performance

By Enigmatik Inviktus

stevenmarley.jpgWords can barely describe the great performance put on by K'naan, Stephen Marley and Damian Marley at the May 4th stop of Stephen's Mind Control US tour in Houston, Texas. If it was possible to bottle up all of the energy in the crowd, it would be enough to probably provide power to the city of Houston for the next 2 months. Good vibes, good drinks, great crowd, great music. It was truly an awesome show.

The DJ got the crowd ready with a jamming set of classic reggae tunes. Although his mixing was almost non-existent, the crowd still began to get energized by the music and atmosphere.

At about 10:00 PM, K'naan hit the stage. Truth be told, I had never heard of K'naan until the concert but the man made a fan out of me. K'naan hails from Somalia and if you're familiar with the country then you know it ain't all peaches and cream. The young man has risen up despite the struggles his country continues to face and has created music that is inspiring, uplifting, and just flat out jams.
clickhere.jpg

He received an excellent reception from the crowd and ran through a flurry of hits for a solid hour. There were a few technical difficulties with the sound, but the situation was quickly resolved and K'naan gave a great performance. Songs such as "What's Hardcore", "In the Beginning" and "Smile" got the crowed incredibly excited. Before all was said and done, K'naan had everyone in the house chanting "It's the African Way!"

Following a brief intermission that featured a dope DJ set, Stephen "Raggamuffin" Marley triumphantly took the stage. I think the energy level was set to about "1 million" by that point. Stephen was a burst of energy by himself, performing hit after hit at a frantic pace. For at least an hour and a half, Stephen and Damian Marley owned Houston. Stephen bounced around from material off of his classic debut album Mind Control and also performed songs by his legendary father, Bob Marley. Songs such as "Mind Control", "Hey Baby", "Iron Bars" and "Let Her Dance" set the place ablaze, but the real fire starter occurred when Stephen beckoned his brother Damian "Junior Gong" Marley to the stage during the performance of "Traffic Jam." Damian followed up with his smash hit "Welcome to Jamrock."

The brothers performed together a little while longer and then exited the stage to a thunderous applause that did not subside. Much to the crowd's delight the duo returned to the stage and performed some of their father's greatest hits, which was definitely a real treat. Stirring performances of "No Woman, No Cry", "Jamming", "Buffalo Soldier" and "One Love" closed out what was one of the best shows that I've ever been witness to. Simply put, the Marley brothers tore the place down.

From top to bottom, K'naan, Damian Marley and Stephen Marley put on a truly awesome show. Their songs are overflowing with positive messages that transcend any barriers that you can think of. It was a great sight to see such a diverse audience come together and sing along to the messages of unity and joy that each artist delivered From Somalia to Jamaica to Houston, the three artists came out and delivered a classic performance. If they happen to be performing in your city, do not miss out on the show of a lifetime.

Mischief 2007, Full of Mischief

By: Olimatta Taal

Munga-Macka-Diamond-sexgirls-ninja-man-cobra-vybz-kartel-aidonia-rihanna-jay-z-beyonce.jpg

Mischief Entertainment in association with Wickerman Promotions, held Mischief 2007 on April 29th in Clarendon at the Jamalco Sports Club. It was a night full of excitement, good entertainment, and fun mischief. The decor and ambiance was incredible as gold and black beautified the artist and V.I.P. area creating a buzz backstage.

Many Reggae favourites graced the stage giving the audience lots of enjoyable moments. Freddy McGregor wooed the audience with many classic and current tunes. He then introduced some of the talent coming out of the Big Ship Camp he is working with like Delly Ranks, producer and artist extraordinaire.

New Artist, Teflon made an impression on the audience as he proved to be the next upcoming artist to look out for. He called up Lutan Fyah, who excited the crowd into a pure musical bliss. Even through his recent controversy in the press, he prevails.
clickhere.jpg

Munga Honorable was in high demand as ladies screamed and fire torches blazed the night as he performed hit after hit. L.U.S.T. comprised of Lukie D, Thriller U, Singing Melody, and Tony Curtis, serenaded the ladies with harmonious melodies. Each artist displayed their solo abilities as well.

Turbulence gave the fans a quick fix as he came on stage with something more of a barrage instead of an entourage. Fresh from his European tour, he barely did two songs and rushed off the stage, leaving everyone hungry for more.

The women went absolutely crazy when Monster Shack Crew delivered an energetic yet romantic set. Ghost, Roundhead, and General B brought some of their tunes from the past back and couldn't give the ladies enough. As Ghost sang his last love song, the night took a turn towards mischief when Ninja Man walked on stage. The audience went into an immediate frenzy as he showed them why he is the original Gorgon. He then called up 'his daughter' Spice, who appeared to be a couple months pregnant. That's when the real mischief began; Spice addressed the controversy over the questions surrounding the potential father of her child.

She made it absolutely clear that none of the entertainers that people had speculated could hold that position. She never revealed who the father was and bounced along the stage performing. Things went up another notch as Cobra appeared, wearing a complete Spider Man suit from head to toe. He performed a number of tunes.

Macka Diamond heated things up with her new song celebrating the union of Beenie Man and Angel. She congratulated Angel from leaving one 'money man' and going to the 'next money man'. She concluded asking Bounty Killa to marry her so they could be a 'money couple' in satire of course.

The night reached a climax with the Alliance, which included performance from Bounty Killa, Wayne Wonder, and K-Queens. Bounty Killa was in a very jovial, pleasant, yet commanding mood. He delivered a great set. It was evident that Wayne Marshall had made tremendous strides over the years, as his delivery and charm with the audience was impeccable. The K-Queens gave us double trouble, as this set of twins showed us why Killa is bussing them in the reggae fraternity.

The finale came with Vybz Kartel and Aidonia mashing up the place. It was obvious that regardless of the passa between many camps, the audience enjoyed them all. As Kartel and Aidonia released song after song, the show closed with a bang. Get set for Mischief 2008 from now.

Jamaica's First Rastafarian Beauty Queen heads to be Miss Universe

By: Olimatta Taal

mss-jamaica-sexygirls-beyonce-jay-z-rihanna.jpg

Zahra Redwood, Jamaica's first Rastafarian Beauty Queen left for Mexico on Monday, April 30th for the Miss Universe Pageant. A press launch was held in her honor at the headquarters of Pulse International. Coincidently, she was crowned on the birthday of Emperor Haile Selasie's wife, Empress Mennen.

It was a night of elegance excitement and pride as distinguished guest gathered for a final send off. A sneak preview was given of the different outfits that she would be wearing for the completion. A series of casual and formal wear was shown from Puma and Jamaican designers.
clickhere.jpg

mss-jamaica-sexygirls-beyonce-jay-z-rihanna-sara-lawrence.jpgSome favorites were a red elegant dress with a red, gold, and green train. A baby blue sequence dress with a sexy split was modeled. The most outstanding outfit representing Rastafarian teachings and Jamaica was a red skirt with a black Bob Marley shirt accompanied by a dynamic red, black, green, and gold cape with a magnificent Lion of Judah spray painted on the back.

In an interview with YardFlex.com, she expressed her feelings about winning her first title as Miss Jamaica Universe, "Its absolutely flattering to be representing Jamaica, especially internationally, feels wonderful right now. Jamaica is the land of Rastafari."

When asked if she was nervous or had any fears and challenges about Mexico she replied, "I have no fears and I don't entertain any negativity or challenges representing Jamaica." Many are speculating whether a Jamaican, especially a Rasta can win Miss Universe especially since three women have won Miss World but not Miss Universe.

Jamaica's first Rastafarian Beauty Queen is not an ordinary Beauty Queen with only physical attributes; she has a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. Beauty, brains, and cultural relevance are the key assets to winning the Miss Universe competition, which Zahra Redwood possesses.

"I see it as a phenomenon to be the first Rastafarian beauty queen" beamed Miss Jamaica Universe. She closes by addressing the youth, "I recommend all young people to listen and adhere to the words in Bob Marley's Wake Up and Live, a great song telling the youth to live life. Don't sit around, live out your dreams and thoughts, and make them a reality."

Beenie Man will not perform any Homophobic songs

beenie-man-d'angel-marco-dean-sexygirls-beyonce-gays-rihanna.jpgA Jamaican dancehall artist notorious for his anti-gay lyrics is to perform this weekend in Luton.

Promoters of the gig have said they have made Beenie Man sign a contract promising he will not perform any homophobic songs.

Mr Man is appearing with a BBC Radio 1 DJ, Chris Goldfinger, at Club 53 in the town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Robert Agey, the club's bar manager, told Luton Today that he did not condone the singer's gay hate lyrics:

"It does cause us concern, but nothing like that will be mentioned when he is here. It's part of his contract with us and he knows that.

"We don't condone discrimination. We know what we are doing. We have measures in place and everything is under control."
clickhere.jpg

A gig by Mr Man in Bedford earlier this week was cancelled.

David Allison of OutRage! has been critical of the artist's work.

"Beenie Man is an unreconstructed homophobe. He has never expressed a word of regret for his lyrics advocating the murder of gays and lesbians.

"Indeed, he has proudly boasted that he will not apologise and has continued to perform songs urging the killing of queers," he said.

At his party's conference last October Tory leader David Cameron criticised companies like Virgin who make money from promoting artists like Beenie Man.

"Record companies that profit from violent and homophobic lyrics are ... morally wrong and socially unacceptable" he told delegates.

Last year Mr Man told The Independent that the true meaning of his lyrics have been misinterpreted due to cultural differences.

He claimed that in Jamaica the word 'gay' is synonymous with rape, and that unlike the consensual homosexual relationships found in England, the only 'gay' relationships that exist in Jamaica are young men who are forced into gay sex by poverty.

He claimed that 95% of the young men attending his 'Beenie Man Foundation for Troubled Youth' had been sexually molested by older men.

Mr Man went on to assert that as a Rastafarian and believer in the Bible, he hates no-one, but admitted that the thought of two men together disgusts him.

Rapper Busta Rhymes Charged With Drunken Driving

By ANAHAD O'CONNOR

Busta-Rhymes-rihanna-jail-jay-z-beyonce-sexygirls-nakedgirls.jpgThe rapper Busta Rhymes was arrested early this morning and charged with driving while intoxicated after officers stopped his car in Manhattan and smelled alcohol on his breath, the police said.

The rapper, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was pulled over about 12:48 a.m. near the corner of West 51st Street and 11th Avenue because the tint on the windows of his 2006 Yukon Denali was too dark, the police said. When officers approached his car and asked for his paperwork, Mr. Smith reached over and dropped his wallet, at which point "he was found to have a strong odor of alcohol on his breath," according to the police report.

After failing a Breathalyzer test at the scene, he was taken to a police station, where he failed additional sobriety tests, the police said. He is currently being held until his arraignment, which is expected to take place later this afternoon. His lawyer, Scott Leemon, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
clickhere.jpg

The drunken driving arrest is the latest of several legal troubles for the rapper. In January, he was charged with misdemeanor assault after his former driver said Mr. Smith beat and kicked him in a dispute over money. In an earlier case, in August 2006, Mr. Smith was accused of attacking a fan after a concert on Randalls Island and arrested on assault and weapons charges.

jah-mason-buju-banton-reggae-artiste.jpgFresh from his recently completed six-week European tour, which was a great success, Jah Mason is gearing up for a massive American tour. The tour will officially kick off in May and will see him making stops in Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, California, New York, Philadelphia and Boston.

With the good vibes enjoyed on his European tour, which saw him performing to large throngs in places like France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Holland, Andre Corey Johnson, aka Jah Mason, will be hoping to enjoy that same kind of response in the States.

The tour will be in promotion of both his albums, which were released last year. The VP released Princess Gone and Greensleeves released Wheat and Tears.

K’NAAN JOINS THE MIND CONTROL NORTH AMERICA TOUR

TOURS THE U.S. WITH STEPHEN MARLEY, DAMIAN MARLEY

knaan-sexygirls-rihanna-steven-marley.jpgSomali-born MC and singer K'naan has joined Stephen Marley on his Mind Control North America Tour. The two will be joined by Jr. Gong himself, Damian Marley. K'naan will be performing in support of his upcoming debut album, The Dusty Foot Philosopher, a collection of hip-hop beats with reggae influences and African percussion. The Dusty Foot Philosopher will be released later this year and features tracks with Damian "Jr Gong" Marley and Mos Def as well as production by Track and Field (Nelly Furtado), Minnesota, Preservation.

K'naan "the traveler" fled Somalia as a refugee at 14 to escape civil war, making his new home in Toronto. But he hasn't forgotten his roots: his lyrics reflect his political and social stance against violence and his debut music video, Soobax is the first North American produced hip-hop video shot on African soil. K'naan adds the Marley brothers to an already impressive list of former tour and recording collaborators who celebrate the relevance of his political poetry, live performance and purpose driven mission, including Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Digable Planets, Pharoah Monch, The Roots, and more.
