Shottas premiere - November 3rd in the United States
On Wednesday night, at an undisclosed location on Miami Beach, R & B star Monica (a Scorpio) will be hosting the 'Shottas' event with special guest appearances by Kymani, Stephen and Damian Marley, Rik Ross, DJ Khalid, Fat Joe, Trina, Trick Daddy, Paul Campbell, Lennox Lewis, Spragga Benz, Falam Remi, Inner Circle and many more.
"It's a red carpet affair. It's going to be a VIP event, lots of celebrities. 'Shottas' will open the floodgates for Caribbean film industry," director Cess Silvera told YardFlex.com managing director Debbie Cole this morning.
There will be large screen televisions at the location showing the trailer of "Shottas". The movie itself an unapologetic raw urban drama that deals with life in the ghettoes of Jamaica. Recently, the film was done over after it was bootlegged and released to the public.
The story revolves around Biggs & Wayne, poverty stricken Jamaican youths who want the gangster lifestyle, and what the consequences are of their actions.
The official release of 'Shottas' will be this Friday, November 3rd at selected cinemas in the United States. Two of those cinemas are Cobb Grand Theatre, 17355 North West 59th Avenue, Miami Lake, Miami, and the other is the Marcus Chathal Cinema in Chicago.
The South Florida YardFlex team will be posting all the cinemas where Shottas will be seen. And we will definitely be at the event on Wednesday night. Everybody wants to go, our phones have been ringing off the hook, but we are keeping the location on the hush-hush and on the QT.

Welcome To Jamrock returns this Christmas!
Appleton Jamaica Rum, in association with Cable and Wireless and bMobile, presents Welcome To Jamrock: the concert, on Friday, December 22. This year, the concert will be held at the Constant Spring Football Club.
Last year, the first staging of the event was held at Cinema 2 in New Kingston and saw stellar performances from Dancehall songstress Alaine, Serious Times singer Gyptian, Roots Reggae giant Richie Spice, the Reggae family band Morgan Heritage, inscrutable Dancehall veteran Buju Banton and multi-Grammy award winner Damian "Jr Gong" Marley.
Since then, a lot has happened with the artistes who have performed on the show. Alaine has consistently released hit Dancehall tunes. Gyptian has released his debut album. Richie Spice has kept high on the local charts.
Morgan Heritage has released a live album. Buju Banton has released another album and has been the subject of conversation worldwide. While Damian Marley has accomplished a feat that many Reggae/Dancehall entertainers have only dreamt of achieving in their lifetime.
At the 2006 Grammy Awards, Damian "Jr Gong" Marley made history when he proudly accepted his awards for the two categories he was nominated in: Best Reggae Album and Best Alternative Performance. No other Reggae/Dancehall artistes have ever won more than one Grammy award in a single year. He has toured the world promoting the album and is happy that he will be performing in Jamaica this Christmas.
The lineup for the Welcome To Jamrock concert will be released soon, but there is no doubt that it will be one of the most anticipated shows this Christmas.

SMIRNOFF ICE -The Perfect Mix, Remixed! Just Press Play!
Kingston, Jamaica - The blazing hot duo of Leftside and Esco will lend their star power and unmistakable musical prowess to the newest competition in town, the Smirnoff Ice Press Play Riddim Competition. Reknowned for their creativity in studio, on the mike and at the turntable, Leftside and Esco have built a baseline rhythm and aspiring music producers will be challenged to add their personal touch to the mix in an effort to unleash the hottest new tune that will hit the airwaves.
The public challenge is to come up with the next original hit rhythm. The base rhythm was chosen and will be aired. Contestants will take this base rhythm and add sounds to create a different rhythm on a specific genre of music that will be communicated through the media. An example of this is if the rhythm is up-tempo dancehall and the challenge will be to re-mix it along the lines of a hip-hop rhythm.
How do you enter?
Collect the base rhythm CD at any of the Red Stripe distribution centers, RE-TV and ZIP FM studios, do your remix and submit it with one proof of purchase from a six-pack of Smirnoff Ice, plus contact information. Every week a different genre gets thrown into the mix to keep things interesting.
How does it work?
8 finalists will be chosen from a pool of submissions that noted rhythm producers; radio personalities and other key persons in the music industry made selections from. Then for 6 weeks the contestants will play off against each other to determine the winner (on the radio).
The launch event will be November 10, 2006 and the finals, December 15, 2006 will culminate the end of the promotion at which the winner will be chosen. Expert producers will be on the panel of judges every week and will pay particular attention to sound, quality and authenticity of the rhythm.
"This competition could very well unearth the next rhythm producer, the next Leftside and Esco" Safia Cooper, Brand Manager, RTD & Spirits said. "This is a major opportunity for any 'wannabe producer,' to enter this competition and gain a foothold into the music industry," she concluded.
Enjoy the perfect mix, Smirnoff Ice and have fun mixing rhythms...and remember to always enjoy Smirnoff Ice, responsibly!"

Lady Splitz's time to shine - "I never expect to win the title of Dancehall Queen"
Montreal's Dancehall Queen 2006, Lady Splitz, has been blazing a trail since gaining the coveted title this year. On October 28, 2006, she put her artistic talents on parade at what has been labelled, the hypest birthday bash this year. It was Lady Splitz's time to shine, and as birthday girl, she pulled out all the stops to give friends and fans a night to remember at Montreal's Castleton Gardens Club.
Tumultuous cheers rang out as there was a lot to celebrate, with this year being one that seems to have ushered in many of Lady Splitz's dreams. There was the spring Dancehall Queen crowning and subsequent trip to New York where she was 1st runner up for the US title, a June high school graduation ceremony and the emergence of Diva's Beauty Salon founded and owned by the young no-nonsense businesswoman, Lady Splitz. While keeping her eye on the prize of someday being involved as an educator for children with mental disabilities, Lady Splitz continues honing her natural abilities, not only as a performance artist but also within the salon where, "Hair is art," she said.
The evening was chock full of mad wining - dutty and otherwise, that was tastefully interspersed with a delightful hair show, featuring Diva's Beauty Salon designs. Male and female award winning dance crews converged on the hall, coming in from as far as Toronto, Ottawa and New York for the massive event. Trophy sounds like Montreal's Little Thunder and Toronto's King Turbo kept the beat pumping.
Being active on the Black cultural scene in Montreal since age 3, when she first participated in Roots Cultural Association's Masquaraders, Lady Splitz won junior and senior carnival queen titles 8 out of the 13 times she entered. "I always felt I just had to be different...even since I was small, but never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to win the title of Dancehall Queen," she explained. However, after gaining experience by being a founding member and manager of Montreal's first female dancehall goup, Mystique Dancers, the idea took more form. "Dancehall Queen" - the movie, was a first introduction and later on videos, especially one in which New York's Dancehall Queen was prominent, gave Lady Splitz the inspiration to boldly strut her stuff. By March 11, 2006 she took the crown from 2005 Queen - Sheba at the 9th annual Montreal competition, founded and produced by Justice.
Keen on the fellowship between Dancehall Queens, Lady Splitz confirmed that her fellow dancers are really cool and that everything is not about skin out and being X-Rated. "I get judged a lot, but integrity is high on my list of attributes," she stated.
"Going up on stage and taking clothes off then shaking this and rocking that - won't be enough to claim a crown, because Dancehall Queens have to be technically savvy...they have to know how to dance," Lady Splitz added.
"I am the Dancehall queen here for 2006 and I won't be doing any "dance offs" outside of major competitions - I am taking this to another level," Lady Splitz mentioned as she projected on what is to come. On November 18, 2006 Lady Splitz will be vying for the title of Canadian Dancehall Queen at the much anticipated competition, produced by Jamaica's initiator of the Dancehall Queen, Bighead. Scheduled to take place in Toronto, a win at this one will send her to Jamaica for the international competition next year. Lady Splitz said she is looking forward to augmenting her dance repertoire to include hip hop and jazz with hopes of being featured in videos, film and stage.

'Dutty Wine' killed Tanisha Henry - "Will this death stop the spread of the dance?
Claude Mills
YardFlex Writer
Tanisha Henry, an 18 year-old resident of Beacon Avenue in Thompson Pen, became the first official causalty of the 'Dutty Wine' dance when she died this morning right in the middle of a 'School Uniform' party in her community.
YardFlex.com went to the Spanish Town hospital hoping to get some information relating to her death but a "Dr. Knight' who was the physician on duty at that time was not there. Our investigations took us to Beacon Avenue where we spoke to her mother, who with tears standing in her eyes, managed to blurt out the story in between heaving sobs.
"When I go there, dem ask if she was doing the Dutty Wine dance. I told them yes, and the doctor said that it was probably it that killed her because she have a cut on her forehead...there was a big crowd at the hospital...Tanisha was well loved by people...she was going to do so much with her life," her mother, Linda Henry, told a reporter.
'Dutty Wine', the dance craze that ruled the Summer with its infectious chorus penned by selector-turned-deejay Matterhorn , has become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon spawning dances all over Jamaica and even overseas, and the dance has even made it to Youtube. Still, there had been health concerns voiced by medical professionals about the possibility of serious injuries from the swinging head-rotations which are a key feature of the dance. Since the dance became popular, there had been wild unsubstantiated rumours which circulated about females breaking their necks, and of others sustaining muscular injuries, while doing the dance. However, this is the first death that could be directly attributable to the dance, but it may be too early to assign blame as an autopsy is yet to be done.
"She wasn't sick or anything. No asthma, she was healthy healthy so this is shock, when mi see har lie down, it come in like me inna one bad dream. Tanisha just gone. Later this week, we will find out when dem do the autopsy, but it strange, imagine yu pickney get up go dance, and her life just end so," she said, as a tear made its way down her wrinkled face. "She just gone."
Doctors warn that persons who are described as "pre-morbid", that is, having an existing condition that could be exacerbated by doing the dance, to desist from doing trying to 'Dutty Wine'.
Will this death stop the spread of the dance? Only time will tell.

WHO IS THE REAL MAFIA?
There are three Mafias in the local dancehall biz. Flippa Maffia, Don Mafia, and G-Maffiah. YardFlex.com did an interview earlier this year where G-Maffiah contended that other people stole his name, and even pointed fingers at Don Mafia, who Don Mafia is contending that he did not steal G-Maffiah's name. He believes that even though there is room in the industry for all the Mafioso, he is the real mafia.
"I wear the Mafia suit, I wear blazers, and felt, I have the mafia personality. Mi live a Mafia Hill, with Muma Maffia, mi spar inna Mafia clan, mi move Mafia units...I don't have him on my mind, my ting bigga dan dat. Brian McKnight is back with his 10th album, 'Ten'
Embracing an effortless eloquence and cocoa butter smooth persona, the music of Brian McKnight has defined the true meaning of American soul man since 1991. Like his spiritual Motown godfathers, this upstate New York native has a velvety voice and silky style that captures the vibe of vintage soul without being old fashion. On his latest disc Ten, that blend can be clearly heard.
"It's always been my goal to try and bring back real R&B music," Brian says. "When I was growing-up it was all about the seventies soul men. From the first time I ever stepped into a studio, my daydream was to pick-up where Marvin Gaye left off." While Brian's aspirations might have seemed like a lofty ambition, the longevity of his career is a testament to the purity of his vision.
In an industry that has a fast turnaround of acts vying to be the next "quiet storm" king or crooner on Soul Train, it's unbelievable that Brian McKnight is still creating beautiful music fifteen years after releasing his self-titled debut. Like the late Luther Vandross before him, the secret of Brian McKnight's rhythmic endurance comes down to his ability to create eternal music.
With the release of Ten, McKnight's first disc for his new label Warner Bros Records, the Grammy-nominated singer could not be more pleased with the outcome. "I wasn't very happy with the situation at my former label and perhaps that attitude was reflected in the material," Brian confesses. Having penned and completed about thirty-three new songs before signing on the dotted line, McKnight was more than ready. "Right now, I am optimistic of what I can do in my new situation."
Without a doubt, the landscape of soul music has gotten younger, but that fact did not hinder McKnight's creative process. "It would be a mistake for me to try and compete with Chris Brown or Ne-Yo," Brian laughs. "I'm not going to be dancing on BET, but at the same time I believe my material will appeal to everyone from teenagers to older folks."
After 16 million albums sold since his self-titled debut, it would have been too easy for McKnight to simply follow the R&B template of rote romanticism. But on Ten, the artist in him felt the need to be more revealing. "As a songwriter my biggest challenge has always been finding new ways to say old things," Brian says. "For me, it was all about being honest and exploring who I am right now. Like everyone else, I am a much different man than I was ten years ago."

Just Ask Ms Jackson - "My man The Hustlah who nearly got me busted"
Greetings Dear Reader, I just wanted to thank you for the overwhelming response I have gotten in regards to the column, please keep sending me your thoughts and concerns and I will try my best to answer them all.
This is another true tale of mine, this one goes out to Ally who ended up with a great man and avoided, what could have been a life-shattering event thanks to Father God, all blessings through Him. Jah, Rastafari!
Sistahs, sistahs you must beware because yuh have some real wicked man out there!
Shouting out Situation # 2 "My man The Hustlah who nearly got me busted"
OK so I'm on IM talking to my friend Tara the other day about how important it is to truly know your man, know the beast you're dealing with so that nothing he does comes as too much of a surprise to you. Tara's remark was "Do I have a story for you MJ. What about the one you thought you knew but who does a 360 degree turn on you? Cause that's what happened to my sister Ally." Now Dear Reader, I was clueless as to what Tara's sister had been through but I sure as hell wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to hear what happened. So I pressed Tara to tell me more and this is what she wrote:
"This is a story of a negro called "Fowl" simply because the dude is one of the foulest persons I've ever come across and because he's a man with no balls, an absolute chicken to do what he did. "Fowl", cocaine-dealing, pretty-boy hustler that he was, almost got my hot-girl sister busted for drugs, in the UK all because he was the one she trusted, the one who often she lusted for on afternoons when all she wanted to do was get buck-wild in bed. And yes, I know that's a sweet combination, a man who you've got a great relationship with and who throw's it down in the sheets like it's his occupation.
A wife he had and this Ally knew but she would say "he only married her to get his papers, even with their two kids, them vows wasn't true". Well... OK, they did spend crazy time together, sipping 'sex on the beaches’ in Jamaica, bundling up in England not even caring about the cold weather. More so, for three years he showered her with gifts from Prada to Louis Vuitton, yup Fowl was definitely a man who knew how to make that doe in the streets of Brixton. Every now and again she'd bring stuff up for him, arbitrary things, some rum, gifts for his family, nothing out of the ordinary. He'd usually ask her days in advance, but he had only called that evening, telling her it was some bizzy for his sick brother Lance.
The Air Jamaica bus was late picking Ally up, rolling in right behind it came Fowls cousin Rory looking all fly in his black F-150 truck. "Finally, what took him so long?" she thought to herself, as she collected the package and hastily stuffed it into her brand new carry-on luggage.
So into the bus she ran, with her parcel in hand, she was about to go to work, fly to England and see her man. She had no time to search the bag that had been handed to her, besides the chances that it was something suspect was basically like next to never.
At Norman Manley, the London flight was delayed and it was only then that Ally took the package out and felt how much it weighed. She turned the box over then shook it up and said to herself "but wait this don't sound like no bizzy nut?" Opened the package and what did she find? A pouch full of cocaine, seems that nigga Fowl was really always on his grind. She called out to Wendy A. who was working the flight with her - what the hell should she do - her whole body began to convulse and shiver. Wendy A. thought quickly and decided to flush the goldmine down the toilet (goldmine yes, cause yuh done know that kilo a coco go for nuff money on the market!).
Anyway, that night Ally boarded that flight without Fowls precious cargo, she hasn't heard from him since and that was more than four years ago. That's why it's really important Ms. J to know the person you're dealing with or else one careless move and you might find yourself in some deep sh*t!"
I nearly drop dung when I finish read the message. True passa passa people!
Moral of the story: Women don't let the dick confuse you! The truth of the matter is that sweet sex and good lyrics may have you sprung on a wimp who really wishes he were a P.I.M.P. A real man knows a real woman appreciates honesty. Bad enough that you would be with a negro who would ask you to take a big risk and endanger yourself like that but hey fellas, let the chick make her own dumb-ass decision to carry two kees of blow for you and face couple years in prison! Fire bun fi dat dutty john-crow British bwoy deh and all the rest like him!
But not to worry ladies there are some good men out there you just have to value yourself enough to know what your willing to put up with (I'm hoping that carrying drugs for him will not make the list) and trust in the Lord, he'll do the rest, after all my girl Ally well happy now with her new husband, house and car. Walk-out mi gyal, Walk-out!
QUESTION:
Dear Ms. J,
I guess some people would consider me to be a skettel or whatever, tell me what you think? Well, I've been with Mr. Personality for the last three years and he is always on the go, he's out the house early and in the studio by 12:30pm, links up with his friends at 4:30pm and from then onwards he's busy doing "everything" including flying out of town to do shows. He never has time for me. Mainly cause he's screwing everybody else including his babymother, who he claims he doesn't talk to, nuff a them idiot female artists with tired careers and one bag a other careless girls that only with him cause he has money. So you know what I did girlfriend, I found myself a man and had his kid and said the baby was Mr. Personality's. Now Mr. P minding someone else's child and I well want to come out and talk the truth and make him a laughing stock. He is a well known artist in the music industry and people think the baby is his. What do you have to say about that Ms. Jackson?
ANSWER:
WOW...that's a lot right there! Firstly I'd like to say that if your man inspires you to go out and get impregnated by someone else based solely on revenge, then baby-girl... you need to leave that negro and I don't care how much big tune him do! He is no good for your well-being and in a relationship a woman must put herself first at ALL TIMES. Also becoming pregnant is a serious thing, that means a child is now involved on top of your man and woman passa passa, which usually affects the child the most. Work out your baby daddy drama so that your child is not left without a father. You are trying to be spiteful, you are a woman scorned it is totally understandable, I once trashed my ex-boyfriends place when I found out he was cheating on me (for like the umpteenth time). But my dear, do not sell yourself short to seek revenge because if you understand Life you will see that revenge comes in its own time and it's so much better that way. Anyway, if you want to cheat that's your business if he wants to cheat that's his business, I'm just saying, don't bring another dysfunctional kid into this world Lord knows we've got enough of them as it is!
In all you do, pray kiddo cause at the end of the day it don't matter what me or anyone else thinks of you, we've all got a Higher Power to answer to.
Peace Out!
Write to me at justaskmsj@gmail.com. Until next month, be good to your brothers and sisters!! One love.

Jamaican doctor on cutting edge of Robotic Surgery in United States
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is at the forefront of the movement to advance the use of robotic technology in gynaecological surgery. Michael Pitter, M.D., is one of the physicians leading the way in developing and advancing these GYN procedures with the use of the da Vinci robot which benefits patients by making recovery quicker and hospital stays much shorter.
Dr. Pitter described how the da Vinci fits into gynaecologic applications.
"Gynaecologic surgery was always predominantly minimally invasive. Before the robot, 30 to 50 per cent of our cases were being performed laparoscopically. So using the da Vinci is a natural extension of laparoscopic surgery," the St. George's College old boy said.
"The learning curve is different for gynaecologists. It is probably easier for us to master the robotic skill, as we are trained early on in laparoscopic techniques. We began using the robot for reanastomosis of tubal ligation - this was our first procedure. Eventually, we were performing robotic myomectomies. The transition to robotic surgery is a natural improvement over laparoscopic techniques," he continued.
Myomectomy is the surgical removal of - fibroids - from the uterus.
"We know there are limits with laparoscopic surgery. The two dimensional monitor is one, with depth perception as a challenge. The rigid instruments are also limiting as well."
G
YN case selection for the da Vinci is often determined by the complexity of the case and the time it will take to do the case.
"We find now that it makes sense to use the da Vinci instead of traditional laparascopic surgery for both myomectomies and hysterectomies. With conventional laparoscopic surgery for a myomectomy, the complication of a rupture is three times more likely than in cases that are done 'open'," he said.
Dr. Pitter explained that this is due to the limitation of conventional laparoscopic equipment that only allows a surgeon to do a one-layer close in most cases. This is compared with open surgery where a three-layer close can be done. With the da Vinci robot, we have a 3-D view and better instrumentation, which allows us to perform a three-layer close just as we would with open surgery, thus reducing the chance of a rupture.
"Because we are seeing more and more patients of a childbearing age needing this procedure, a robotic myomectomy is ideally suited for women who still want to have children," he said.
When we perform a hysterectomy, Dr. Pitter said, we now have the ability to suture and provide better support for the pelvic floor. The robot's wrested instruments give us the ability to perform minimally invasive surgery that has the same results as 'open' surgery.
He endorsed the programme wholeheartedly.
"Robotics is a natural advancement in surgical technique - the next generation of breakthrough technology. The instruments are much improved and we can now offer a better approach. Operative time is the same or better compared to traditional laparascopic surgery, blood loss is minimized, recovery is quicker and hospital stays are shorter."

Is the unprofessional attitude of dancehall artistes killing the business?
WHAT IS GREENSLEEVES GOING TO DO?
By: Sean Miller
Are dancehall artistes shooting themselves in the foot with their unprofessional attitudes towards the business side of the music biz? Almost every week, you hear the horror stories of artistes not honouring contracts, whether they have been inked with individual managers, or with major record companies, and it has got to the point where you wonder when this sort of 'cowboy attitude' will cause this indigenous industry to implode.
So saying all that, YardFlex.com spoke to an industry insider about what were the broader implications of the recent developments where Fantan Mojah and now deejay Vybz Kartel have decided to opt out of their album deals with independent label Greensleeves Records.
"Based on what I have seen and heard, the way they are going about it is totally wrong," music producer Gussie Clarke. "This action will not get them out of it, but instead will create a negative impact as how they are perceived by other record labels. It could lead to a reluctance on the part of major players of have anything to do with those artistes in the future."
The ramifications may be negative for the up-and-comers in the business given the stigma being attached to dancehall artistes from poor socio-economic backgrounds.
"And with respect to upcoming artistes, it brings up an immediate question sign: do we really want to get involved with this artistes? If we do, the terms of investment will be different, it's a no-win for music and the artistes," Mr. Clarke said.
He added that "any contract with a major or independent company is binding. The ones who have been able to get out of contracts have done so because these companies are not interested in pursuing legal action because it is not worth their time, effort and resources."
"So they just wait it out, goodbye for everybody, but by taking this course, other labels will be careful in dealing with these artistes because it sends a message of how they do business."
Kartel's recent move to change his name to get out of his Greensleeves contract is somewhat similar to the action taken by the singer Prince in 1994 when during negotiations regarding the release of Prince's album 'The Gold Experience', a battle between Warner Bros. and Prince where they duked it out ver the financial and control of Prince's material.

Oliver Samuels Touring Canada in "Assistant Thief"
By: Janice Dayle
MONTREAL
Oliver Samuels is more than his usual wild and witty self as he brilliantly portrays a hilarious burglar in Patrick Brown's "Assistant Thief". Currently on tour in North America, the play features an equally talented cast of Glen "Titus" Campbell and Camille Davis.
"I caught up with the tour at Montreal's Royal Vale Auditorium on October 22, 2006, where the excitement began even before the play started. It was actually dinner theatre, thrown together by stalwart promoter Garry T and associates, with fine finger-licking cuisine, refreshments, Caribbean delicacies and CKUT's Howard "Stretch" Carr as host.
However the main attraction had everyone in that full house practically rolling out of their seats in fits of laughter...I mean it was laugh till you pop up with no apologies. People were howling - me included, at the smooth rhythmic flow of conversations and ridiculously humorous counteractions.
In the play, issues of trust weigh in on the realities that thievery brings while moral dilemmas intertwine reaching an unexpected ending. Camille Davis is the virtual newcomer to the theatre scene, who was full of surprises and kept the audience in suspense. Comfortably fitting into her role, she offered a crisp balance in her portrayal of a seemingly unstable and somewhat weird bourgeois housewife. This is the Mannings High School graduate's second co-star role with comedic icon, Oliver.
This play is a definite hit - check for it in a theatre near you

Bounty Killer - Alliance debut album next year
By: Jigga Mattic
Bounty Killer will be releasing the Alliance's debut album next year on his new label Me-Is-A-Rebel Music.
The Alliance recently inked a label deal with VP Records and their first project will feature 20 artistes from the Alliance including the Young Alliance youngbloods, Advance, Anarchy, Dada, Assailant and others, and will feature the top producers in the music business.
It has been three years since his last album, a time period that is like an eternity for a dancehall artiste, but the stiletto-framed Killer is always relevant, with his unqiue delivery and signature slangs like 'Bullet'.
He hit it big in 2002 with No Doubt, the platinum-selling band on the worldwide smash, 'Hey Baby', giving him an international profile. His last album was Ghetto Dictionary, a two-CD set that was released on May 28, 2002, and distributed by New York independent VP Records.
In 1996 Bounty Killer's 'My Experience' album sold 200,000 copies.

Lion Cub and Ras Myrdhak at odds over riddim origins
Friction between up-and-coming deejay Ras Myrdhak and his Blaque Warriaz camp and Lion Cub of the Downsound Records camp over what the deejay says is "a remarkable similarity" between Myrdhak's 'Breath a Fire' rhythm and the popular Downsound project, 'Sika', has set tongues wagging all across the Corporate Area.
"Mi know that is Lion Cub carry my rhythm go over to the Downsound studio. The 'Sika Sitten' song build ova our office, so me know it before it even voice, but me tell him at the time that me have over 50 man pon it already. So him carry it go over Downsound and dem lick ova my thing. That's OK, still, if him did waan lick ova the riddim and put Downsound artiste alone pon it, but now, it come in like dem a put everybody pon it, like a man ah try kill my riddim. But mi a Blaque warrior, me can defend myself," Ras Myrdhak, whose recent Blazer hit is a bonafide top ten song on local charts here, told YardFlex.com.
In the meantime, Downsound Records has denied that the 'Sika' is a 'lick-over' of the 'Breath a Fire' rhythm, and even went so far as to suggest that Ras Myrdhak's rhythm samples a Winston Riley rhythm on which Buju Banton recorded 'Stamina Daddy' in the 1990s.
"(Lion) Cub come with a song that he made for 'Breath a Fire', and we play back a beat to match the Sika Sitten. It is nothing close the rhythm, it is Mr. Winston Riley rhythm that he lick ova to make Breath a Fire, so if is anybody riddim that is being sampled is that one. If yu listen to it, our riddim cannot be compared to 'Breath a Fire', we lick it base offa Cub' s 'Sika' tun. But now, there is a trend in dancehall where everybody feel that you following somebody else, who tell him that we listen to his beat? We don't need his beat, Downsound doesn't need to do anything like that, we listened to Cub tune and play something to match it, that's all that happened," Downsound top executive Andrew 'Prento' Prendergast responded.
For his part, Lion Cub said that "my Sika song was inspired by the Breath of Fire riddim, and my song in turn inspire the Sika, and that's the only similarity, other than the fact that is two dancehall riddim dem...mi surprise by the whole ah dis that a gwaan, mi rate Annette from long time, but is like Ras Myrdhak have a problem wid me."
Stil despite the denials, Ras Myrdhak remains adamant that what he believes is true, and there is a deliberate attempt to undermine the success of 'Breath a Fire' which has spawned the hit singles, Capleton's 'Forty Sup'em' and 'Blazer'.
"When me did ask them (Downsound) fi voice, them neva gimme a chance. And now, if dem did ask me for a cut of the rhythm, me woulda give him for the Downsound artiste dem because that understandable, but not for the whole music fraternity. Is like dem a say mi mustn't have my success. Why dem neva lick ova Don Corleone riddim? Mi suffer out there and get my ting, and now, dem waan fight it, the Sika ah play everyday now and my riddim hardly ah get play. It no right rasta," Myrdhak, whose Blazer hit is in the top ten of the Richie B Tru Juice charts. "Downsound is a thief!"
The Sika rhythm has the radio hits, Vybz Kartel's 'More Money More School More House', the clash songs, Turbulance's 'No Man No Perfect' and Sasha's 'Got What You Need', as well as Lion Cub's 'Sika Sitten'.

Shottas - View it now on YardFlex.com
In 2002, director/screenwriter Cess Silvera set out to pen SHOTTAS (the Jamaican word for gangster), the story of two young Jamaican teenagers-turned-gangsters. In their quest for a better life in the United States , the two teenagers rob a soda truck to get enough money for Visas. The two soon find themselves intertwined in the seedy world of Miami drug dealers and Jamaican gangsters. According to Silvera, "We've seen the Italian gangsters, the Jewish gangsters, the Cubans, but nobody has ever seen how the Jamaican gangsters do it."
The film, originally produced in 2002, offers a shocking realism that few films can deliver. It is this very realism that proved troublesome to the producers when attempting to find a distributor for the finished film. Not long after, a rough cut of the film found its way onto the internet, and it soon became the most downloaded bootleg film on the internet.
Now, for the first time ever, the final version of this searing drama starring Grammy® Award winning artist Kymani Marley, Jamaican dancehall star Spragga Benz, and world renowned Grammy® Award winning artist Wyclef Jean, is coming to theatres this November.

Guinness - Marvin bid $45,000 for a date with Dancehall artiste Ce'cile
By: Jigga Mattic
Would you fork out $45,000 for a date with singer Ce'cile? Marvin Reynolds, of VP Records, did. He forked out $45,000 G dollars (Guinness dollars) at the Asylum launch of the GUINNESS® BIG BID Consumer Promotion last week.
Asked if he had splurged too much on the date, this big spender, a mad gleam of joy in his eyes, responded: "Yu mad, my yute? She more than worth it!".
"Mi work a VP, yu no see how much artiste we produce, we no short ah money!" he added, while counting out his pseudo-dollars. It was not clear
Earlier, emcee Ity had conducted auctions on cellular phones, and conducted a bad man dance contest to (what else?) the song, 'Dutty Wine' to much laughter from the gaggle of media practitioners, Red Stripe employees and music industry insiders in attendance.
The cashless auction, which is stacked with top of the line prizes valued at over J$20 Million including a 2007 Honda Ridgeline, a 2006 Dodge RAM SRT10 and a 2006 Honda CBR, consumers can get a chance to bid using Guinness crowns only.
Three (3) road shows will be held across the island during this fantastic promotion. This is where the winning (highest) accumulated monthly bid will be announced. The winner walks away with one of the mega prize. Also at the road show, Guinness consumers can text to a local number to win prizes instantly. After all the prizes we are giving away, daily and monthly, what else could there be? There are the road show prizes, car rims & tires, TV's, DVD players, and high-end mobile phones.
Guinness Brand Manager, Dave DaCosta expressed the view that this promotion is by far one of the most generous and innovative as it offers consumers a chance to bid on some truly enviable items including top of the line motor vehicles.
WHERE TO GET THE MONEY
•GUINNESS® BIG BID crowns come in $100, $500 and $1000 denominations. Consumers can use these crowns to bid for the prizes of their choice.
HOW IT WORKS
•GUINNESS® BIG BID mirrors the concept of an auction. From October 20th to January 12th, consumers will be able to use their GUINNESS® crowns and bid for exciting prizes daily. Daily bids will accumulate towards a BIG BID for the mega monthly prize. The HIGHEST BID ALWAYS WINS.
•Under the crown will be a dollar value, ($100, $500 or $1,000), an eight (8) digit unique number (12345678) and the telephone number to text/call.
•. You must text or call in the 8-digit number to the Big Bid Hotline: 444-2411. You will be prompted for the dollar value that is under that crown. This dollar value, if correct, will be submitted as a bid towards the daily prize. If you reply with the wrong amount than under that crown you are using, your bid is automatically disqualified.
•The winning (highest) bid at the end of the day wins the prize and is announced the next day on IRIE-FM, CVM-TV and HYPE-TV.
•Each daily bid is erased at the end of the day. Bids for the next day prize must be done on that day.
•At the end of the month, all the daily bids from each telephone number are added up as a BIG BID for the mega monthly prize that will be announced at one of three mega road shows, live on IRIE-FM.
•At the end of the monthly BIG BID, all bids are erased.
This is just the beginning of the excitement, there are fabulous daily prizes to be won, Free Guinness Stout, Cellular phones (Motorola L6, Pebl),TVs,DVD players,$1,000 petrol (Cool Oasis)$1,000 petrol (Shell) and these are just for the daily winners. The monthly winners get the really big prizes, a 2006 Honda CBR in November, a 2007 Honda Ridgeline in December, a 2006 Dodge RAM SRT10 in January.
