Buju Banton show will still be held on the same date - October 3
Despite spirited efforts by the black lesbian, gay and trans-sexual community, Buju Banton's 'Too Bad' tour rolls on with a show that was recently cancelled being rescheduled at another Hollywood venue.
Head promoter of Jamaican Gold, Jamie Koz, issued a statement to the media recently that stated that "the Buju show has been officially rescheduled for the same date Tuesday, Oct 3rd at a new venue the Century Club".
"The owners there have done the proper research on Buju Banton. Realizing that Buju has already apologized for his actions back in 1992 when the incident was first addressed, they have agreed to let the show go on... They also realize that Buju's music no longer reflects any sort of anti-gay lyrics. His music is spiritual and positive. And that is the vibe that we present at Jamaican Gold. A place for people of all creeds to get together in unity and enjoy spiritual uplifting music. For the record, Jamaican Gold does not, in any way, condone violence against any race or person for religious beliefs, personal preferences or sexual orientation," the statement said.

Lion Cub roars with 'Sicka Sitten'
Downsound Recording artiste Lion Cub is roaring all over FM radio these days with his radio hit, 'Sika Sitten' becoming one of the must-play songs on the sizzling Sika rhythm.
The song, an uptempo club hopper has been generating 'sick' raves from party-goers at the weekly dancehall sessions like Passa Passa, Weddy Weddy and in the Asylum nightclub. In the meantime, the Sika Medley featuring Natalie, Lion Cub, Harry Toddler and other artistes has been enjoying good rotation on cable TV.
In the streets, everyone is asking who is the dancing rass in the video? The answer: Lion Cub. The deejay is a definite insider sensation in the business because of his high-energy vocals, unique delivery, and snazzy dance moves.
"Right now, mi feel that it is my time to shine, I am going to keep putting in the work, the whole ah Spanish Town ah look to me, me caan disappoint them," he said.
Born Ricardo Pitter on July 25, 1978, he grew up at 3 Scarlet Road, Spanish Town where he attended Macaulay Primary and Spanish Town Comprehensive High where he left school at age 17.
He worked at that trade for a few years, landed a job with Walters and Company which is based in St. Ann's Bay, and became quite adept at construction work. He had promised himself that it was only a temporary state of affairs, but with the birth of his child, he soon found himself 'trapped' on the work site.
"I had to make money to take care of my yute, it is a decision I don’t regret, I did it out of love and a sense of responsibility, but now that the yute is pass a certain age, it is time for me to pursue my career full time again," he explained with a beaming smile.
In July 2005, Lion rejoined forces with friend and engineer Michael Adams, who is now based at Downsound Records, and together, they have been locked in the musical lab, turning out music to heal the souls of man.
Songs like 'Gas Up' on the Lucky You rhythm received good airplay, especially from the 93.5 FM overseas disc jock, Samantha Rose, but it is his latest effort, the superbly produced and reverent, 'Thank You Jah' on an exclusive rhythm that has reggae-dancehall aficionados sitting up and paying attention to this young man.
The lyrics speak to the sheer joy of life and go: Thank you Jah, thank you to rise me up this morning/As I see Jah sun is rising/ I know that Jah blessing is adoring/Why, why whoa/If ah neva Jah, how could I live to see this morning...
It is a song that whispers to your soul like an early morning breeze.
"I am looking to do the album now. I recently voiced over 10 songs, and I have eight rhythms now that I am writing for, it's just crazy work right now, plus the Sika medley video is getting a lot of love from cable TV. I am just going to keep doing the work, seeking truth, right and justice," he said.
Downsound CEO Joseph Bogdanovich believes that he may have discovered his next Downsound franchise artiste.
"We can't let one bad experience stop the work that we're doing here. Lion Cub is a really good artiste, humble, clean-spirited and hardworking, he represents what Jamaica is all about, and we see great things in his future. Downsound doesn't give up on artistes, we have good content, we promote and support our artistes with videos, promotions in the street, TV, radio, concerts, the full hundred, and we believe Lion Cub is the next big thing," he said.

Gay letter to club owners - Buju Banton & Beenie Man
Sample Letter
Dear Century Club General Manager:
I understand that your venue will be featuring Buju Banton on October 3, 2006 and Beenie Man on October 22, 2006. I would like you to know that both Buju Banton and Beenie Man have a long history of homophobia and incitement of anti-gay violence.
Beenie Man, as you may recall, in his song "Han Up Deh," sings, "Hang
chi chi gal wid a long piece of rope." The term "chi chi" is a Jamaican reference to homosexuality. The term is often used to refer to "chi chi men" but can also refer to lesbians (chi chi women or chi chi girls). Loosely translated, the lyrics mean, "Hang lesbians with a long piece of rope." And there are other songs where he calls for the murder of gays. Banton was accused of being involved in a homophobic attack in Kingston two years ago.
While Banton said the charges were "completely untrue and wholly unfounded," he continues to be protested for his song "Boom Bye Bye," which is well known for the violence it calls for against gays including the shooting of gay people in the head, pouring acid over them, and setting them on fire.
Banton's management released a statement earlier this year stating
that he was no longer performing his song "Boom Bye Bye," but recent concert footage from Miami of him leading a sing along, suggests otherwise. The misogyny found in today's hip hop lyrics is no worse than the homophobia found in Beenie Man and Buju Banton's lyrics. As a Black woman, I cannot protest rappers for their use of misogynistic language and then say nothing about the equally offensive language used by some reggae artists.
Black America has an ethical and social responsibility to call out its own.
I fully understand the right of artists to express themselves, but I
cannot sit in silence when blatantly homophobic recording artists come to Los Angeles to perform.
As our new Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has stated, this is a Los
Angeles for all people, and as a Black lesbian, I'm personally insulted that your venue would allow anti-gay musicians to spout their homophobia. Would you allow anti-Semitic or anti-Black artists to perform? Probably not, that's why I'm asking for your help.
To resolve this problem, I ask that you do one of two things
immediately. Either rescind Buju Banton and Beenie Man's invitation to perform in your venue or demand that they make a public statement prior to the concert disavowing his homophobic music and remarks. I'm sure you would agree that we've come too far in the struggle against hate crimes to allow vicious homophobia to go unchallenged in the public sphere. Many people in our community will be looking for you to do the right thing.
Adam Manacker of the Highlands Night Club today cancelled a
performance of Buju Banton scheduled for October 3, 2006 after being made aware of this issue.
I eagerly await your reply.
Sincerely,
Your Name

Weh Dem a Do? - Mavado beaten by Cops?
By: Jigga Mattic
Sources close to deejay Mavado, a prominent member of Bounty Killer's Alliance, revealed that the deejay was allegedly beaten by cops who had gone to detain him for questioning with regards to an incident where an engineer known as 'Kerry' - who is employed to the Exodus studio in Kingston - made a formal report that he had been beaten by a group of men who had accused him of "splicing a Mavado dub".
'Splicing' is an illicit practice within the entertainment industry where skilled studio technicians are able to cleverly manipulate the voice of in-demand entertainers by joining together or inserting phrases of actual copyrighted work to create new material which gives the impression of an actual dub performed by the said artiste for a sound system.
"The policeman said that Mavado tell them to 'go s**k yu madda', and that they had no alternative but to use force to apprehend him. They had gone to detain him for questioning in relation to the report made by the Exodus engineer but it appeared that one thing led to another, and the police started to beat him after they felt he dissed them. But I believe that the policemen should not have lost their temper, they caan tek things into their own hand, they should have arrested him and put an additional charge on him for abusive language," the source told YardFlex.com last night.
The deejay is reportedly at the Constant Spring police lock-up in St. Andrew. Efforts to get confirmation from the Constant Spring police were futile as no one answered repeated calls to the numbers listed in the directory.
This is the second time in less than a month that Mavado has been on the wrong side of the law. In August, the Morant Bay police issued a summons to the singer which he openly flouted. Under the terms of the summons, Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, was not bound to report to the police, and the summons only has authority once the document is delivered, after which, the police could then detain him.

Sean Paul feat Keyshia Cole 'Give It Up To Me' video review
Ratings chart from 1-5 stars
SONG: [When You Gonna] Give It Up To Me
ARTISTE: Sean Paul feat. Keyshia Cole
Director: Little X
Ratings: Four stars
When I heard the intro, "Get outta my head and into di bed girl" on Sean Paul's latest hit single, I was like, 'no, he didn't'. It was like he was straight up jacking my boy, Billy Ocean, but it's all good, Sean. You look too good for me to hate, I ain't mad at ya! That adorable crack in your tenor as you deejay those lyrics makes it all good.
I love the tinny, stripped-down beat, and even Sean's slightly juvenile lyrics talking about blue balls, and erections as he tries to persuade a girl to give up the nookie works for me on this song. He is like a Jamaican pied-piper tantalizing the girls to the dancefloor. The video itself is nice, I love the concept of using the dance floor, and as usual, the dancers are amazing. I love how they hold it down. But maybe Little X is becoming a little bit too predictable. Lately, it's been feeling like the same-old, same-old.
Still, Sean's the man. Check the lyrics: So back it up deh..So pack it up yeah - cause I wanna be the man that's really gonna have it up and mack it up and slap it up yeah...you got the sinting inna me pants a develop and a swell up.

The rise of Ras Myrdhak - "Nuff producer ah go round me"
When The Alliance, Bounty Killer's powerful circle of artiste and music heavyweights formed in 2001, Ras Myrdhak was one of the youths who was hardest hit by the partnership.
"When Alliance form, it did shake everybody foot, it cramp everything. Yu coulden hear yourself on the radio, or inna the dance. Nuff man run outta the business after that, but ah really Jah govern everything and some man can only rule for a time if is not a positive sound dem ah push through on the earth," he told YardFlex.com.
Myrdhak said he was inspired when a new crop of artistes such as Fantan Mojah, Bascom X, Nanko and I-Wayne rose to the forefront of the music industry
"I was glad, because if ah dem alone (Alliance), no artiste no rise. So mi just heights and pray and waited for my time," he said.
That time is now because the whole of the dancehall universe is buzzing about the rise of Ras Myrdhak and the Blaque Warriaz. Myrdhak's radio hit, 'Blazer', has been getting crazy airplay on local stations, and a video, shot by Nordia Rose, will be released on HYPE TV, RE TV, and local stations this week.
"This year, 2006, has been my most promising to date, the name Ras Myrdhak is known now, it ring a bell all over, and that is satisfying after 15 years in the business," he said.
Born Stephon Moulton on March 3, 1977, Ras Myrdhak grew up in the Linton Park in Brown's Town, St. Ann, and at age eight, began singing bass in his mother's church choir at the local Church of God. While attending Brown's Town High School, Myrdhak began to establish himself as a deejay. Pursuing his dream, he decided to leave St. Ann and move to Kingston where he could get the exposure he break into the Game.
In 1997, Ras Myrdhak linked with producer Phillip Thomas a.k.a Cutty Ranks in Kingston to produce the singles, 'Hot Bwoy' and 'Gal a Say Myrdhak' on the Shark label distributed by Greensleeves Company. The singles generated major buzz and provoked the interest of Annette Brewster-Aitken, who later became his manager. During that ime, he worked with great producers such as King Jammys, Bobby Digital, Kings of Kings, Gemtar Production. Among his many releases are songs such as 'Camille' and 'All I Do', but he failed to generate that first big hit.
Then the Alliance muscled their way into the business, and things looked even bleaker. So when he realized that he was not getting the airplay or recognition for his efforts, he flipped the game and went into producing.
"It was a dream I always had, you know, to set the foundation for my youths. So when I realized that nuff producer ah go round me, say dem riddim full up, I had to start helping myself. The first riddim I got was 'Breath a Fire' which was built by Suku and Wring Move' from Firehouse who played the keyboard," he explained.
The 'Breath a Fire' rhythm is somewhat of a phenomenon in dancehall circles with over 50 artistes and counting who have already recorded songs. It has made Myrdhak's Blaque Warriaz Production a force to reckon with in the music business, especially since it has already spawned two bonafide hits.
Capleton's 'Forty Sup'em' and RasMyrdhak's 'Blazer' are storming the top ten segment of the RE TV dancehall charts, and looking to conquer Richie B's chart as well.
"The 'Blazer' which is a girls tune catch the people dem, but is my other song on the riddim, 'Heights and Pray' which gets up close and personal, that is soaking into the people. Mi know a yute who tell me say him mother work obeah, and him ask her what she think about the tune, and she say, 'da rasta de too drastic', and him just laugh to himself because 'Heights and Pray' is a powerful tune," he said.
The song is inspired by the death of a Rastafarian girl in Montego Bay at the hands of gunmen.
"A friend of mine had called and said it was my empress who was killed by gunmen, but when mi call her, mi get fi realize is her sister dem kill, but the whole ting still hurt me a way. But Jah say leave all vengeance to him, so mi say, mi ah just heights and pray fi dem bwoy de, and the whole ah dem end up dead eventually. You see, Jah govern all things," he said with a smile.
As his career gathers momentum, Myrdhak has performed at stage shows such as Sting, East Fest, and Bob Marley Day 2004 US West Coast tour where he was backed by Grammy winners Sly and Robbie. The show also showcased such heavyweight acts as Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, Elephant Man, Beres Hammond, and T.O.K. He recently performed in Cleveland, Ohio where he graced the stage with reggae greats such as Sizzla and the Fifth Element Family. However, it was at the 'Champions in Action' show at Jamworld, Portmore where he earned his biggest forwards and rave reviews from the press.
He is currently working on his upcoming album, 'Passion of a Blaque Warriah' tyo be released late 2006, and his latest project, 'Double Kick' which features Elephant Man, Monster Shack, Macka Diamond, Mr. Easy, Lady G, Chris Howell and Christopher. There are also plans to shoot a music video for the hit tune, 'Blazer' with well-known director Nordia Rose.
"Everything is just going well, and mi nah ease up, mi just a push forward wid my career," he said.
That's all he can do, for his hit songs are like a runaway train, and there's no turning back now.

Former lovers Sasha and Turbulence turned-rivals
Former lovers-turned-rivals Sasha and Turbulence have embarked on a lyrical war of sorts on the new Downsound Records' 'Sika' rhythm. The songs have been creating quite a buzz in dancehall circles as they are centred around the couple's juicy break-up last year.
Just two years ago, the two basked in the glow of their relationship, recording popular songs such as 'Natty Pon Di Frontline' and the hit single, 'We've Got The Love', with an accompanying video that seemed
to cement their blossoming relationship.
However, the entertainers' relationship soured late last year after Sasha found out about Turbulence's 'extra-curricular' activities outside their relationship. All that was months ago, but last week,
Turbulance recorded a single called 'No Man No Perfect' and Sasha returned fire with the well-written 'Got What You Need'.
Turbulance's single, 'No Man No Perfect' in part, mocks the ex-couple's 'We've Got The Love' song, and suggests that it was rumour-mongering that caused the end of their Relationship, and declared in no uncertain terms that "mi nah look yu back".
For her part, Sasha replied with 'Got What You Need', a competent rebuttal of Turbulance's comments. There are some choice lines such as 'mi know yuh a man and mi muss get bun, but sex without a condom a careless fun'. But she also pokes fun at him using a man's voice to illustrate how Turbulance tried to justify his actions by saying:
"Selassie I Jah Rastafari, a jacket dem a gi I, anno lie I a lie."
Here is a snippet of Sasha's song.
Intro
Balance there seems to be some disturbance
Mi neva dream it coulda end like this
Ha Ha
Fence up yu argument yu hear dat
Verse 1
Come talk the truth yu know yu violate the thing
Yu know yu wrong and now a words yu a fling
Yu dis the Queen but mi naaw dis the King
Mi hear yu sing the song so mi go find the riddim
A yu true side me did really in needa
Not the other side weh yu a show to the media
Yu know whey you do and yu know yu a cheata
Mi neva gi yu bun caa mi no Delsita
Mi know yu a man and mi mus get bun
But sex without condom a careless fun
Things outta road and mi no waan none
The wild wild west dem route mi no run
Chorus
God a the head and man and man a the head a woman
And what you give is what you get dat yu fi understand
You get the blame cause a you mash up the plan
You got what you need got what you need got what you
need
God a the head and man and man a the head a woman
And what you give is what you get dat yu fi understand
You get the blame cause a you mash up the plan
You got what you need got what you need got what you
need
Turbulence's song was the one that irked Sasha enough
for her to reply lyrically to his accusations. Here
are the lyrics to his song:
Hear mi no
You spreading rumours on the King
Yu betta hole the discipline
You spreading rumours on the King
Ooh Nooo
Verse 1
We had the love but now it is gone
Mi no dead yow mi still a carry on
She tell mi seh she a go cut, Yow mi tell har fi gwaan
She assume sey mi have a gal farm
She sey mi got 3 kids a road and 3 more fi born
Sey mi disrespect har anytime mi a perform
Sey mi call har name inna derogatory form
Man a rasta, fans tell mi how dat fi gwaan
Wish you the best in the future to come
I hope you find a man weh naaw go gi yu no bun
I wish you all the happiness the joy and the fun
Still mi naaw look you back the relationship done
Chorus
No man no perfect no man a no God
Tell me if its worth it yu friends make you sad
True rumors yu run off and get mad
And now you blame it on me blame it on me blame it on me
No man no perfect no man a no God
Tell me if its worth it yu friends make you sad
True rumors yu run off and get mad
And then you blame it on me blame it on me blame it on me.
Which song do you think is better? Tell us what you
think, send us your comments.
Anyway, in the meantime, most people are quietly surprised that this friction has cropped up now. Sources close to Turbulence believe that it was a recent appearance by Sasha on CVM/'s 'Onstage' show hosted by Winford Williams that ticked him off. Turbulance, whose latest album, the intriguingly titled 'X-Girlfriend' was just released, could not be reached for comment, but sources close to the deejay revealed that he was upset about one comment in particular when she said: "He is not the same person I met..." Now, with the songs being leaked to commercial radio, conversations have turned to the relationship and the 'passa passa' surrounding the new songs. When contacted, Sasha refused to comment on the relationship, but did say:
"I heard his song, so I did my song...I am not into it anymore, and I am not doing anything else about it, there will be no more replies from me," she said.
Asked if there was anything in particular about the CVM interview that might have upset Turbulance, she responded curtly:
"I don't know. No comment."
Sources close to both artistes said that the couples' break-up happened when Sasha found out that Turbulance had gotten engaged to Sasha and another girl at the same time. Later, as luck would have it, Sasha and the girl, who is younger than Sasha, became
friends and soon found out about Turbulance's duplicity. Both women went to his mother's house, and there was a 'hataclaps' where all things were revealed. After that, Sasha broke up with him, but
Turbulance reportedly continued his relationship with the other woman.

What's popping with Buffilous - 'Talk, Mek Dem Talk'
Right now, me have the whole ah South Florida popping. Yea, ah me name Buffilous, who the man dem tink fabulous. After mi write mi article 'bout dem dutty life, Jamaica, people get mad, but me waan know a wha do diss dutty #$@% gal? She want a next beating.
Mi wake up over the weekend and go to mi SUV, and me see the whole ah it key up. Mi just look to the heavens and say, a wah dis Faada? Mi know say a she do it, but right now, mi just ah hold my levels 'cause she doesn't want to see me when I am angry.
She knows what I can do. Right now, mi a go pon a one-week fasting fi har, mi just a heights and pray like how the rass dem say. Anno my fault har tings dem miserable and no man no waan her and no man no waan stay too long. Mi a leave har to time.
MIAMI STING PASSA?
People, mi hear say Miami Sting wasn't all that. Mi love how Capleton and Beenie performed together pon the stage. After that, Capleton did a solo by himself as Beenie stood to the side and watched. Right after that Beenie do a two minute closure, but my word, the Bi-centennial park almost empty, and the attendance wasn't so great.
For a lineup like that, it should have done better but maybe the misleading information from the organizers throw off the people; that was very tacky on their part. First, Ninjaman neva get the work permit, and then Wyclef went on air and said he was not going, and so there was no support from the Haitian community. And why was there no one from the Alliance? No Killer? No Kartel? No Mavado? But the Wyclef ting was the key thing, everybody wanted to see Wyclef without the natty, so while we sorry it neva come off the right way, dem need fi wheel and come again because the whole ah Florida waan fi see it work.

Italian Reggae singer Alborosie creating a havoc in the UK - "Herbalist"
Alborosie, Italian Reggae singer based in Jamaica is making a major impact in Europe with his last single, "Herbalist." According to Dubvendor, England's most influential 7inch distributor of Reggae, "Herbalist" was the number 1 selling 45' for weeks.
"Herbalist" created quite a bit of excitement and controversy in Jamaica. After massive radio rotation and video rotation, it was banned by the Jamaica Broadcast Commission (JBC), which prevented the single from gaining its full course in Jamaica. However, now it is gaining full course overseas.
There has been a high level of anticipation from fans of the music waiting to see what Alborosie is coming with next as an artist/producer. He recently produced his first studio LP in 6 years, Soul Pirate. This LP describes his passion, love and continuing journey in Jamaica. "Call Up Jah" is the next single, which will be released from this LP. The video was recently shot by MTV Italy in Kingston.
As the focal artist of Forward Records, Alborosie is no stranger to the music scene. He was born in Sicily in 1977 and was quickly recognized as a young virtuoso, playing numerous instruments including guitar, piano, bass and drums.
In 1993, he formed a Reggae band in Italy called Reggae National Tickets. Under BMG Records Italia, Alborosie's band sold over 200,000 units by the year 2000. This came on the heels of his first performance in Jamaica at Sunsplash 1999 and Sumfest 2000.
He has written a number of singles for many international artists and produced music for J Records, Mario, Angie Stone, Virgin France's Les Nubians, Jimmy Cozier and Manu Chao. His current production on the road is the XXL riddim featuring Beenie Man, Sizzla, Elephant Man, himself, Voice Mail, Red Rat, Danny English, Tony Fisher, Ms.Thing and others through Geejam.

Wayne Wonder is going to be a father again
Claude Mills
YardFlex Writer
He waited 15 years, but it's that time again. Recording star Wayne Wonder is going to be a father again soon. Plus, his highly anticipated follow-up album to 'No Holding Back' is due out soon. Yup, things are definitely on the up in this youngblood's life.
However, it is the news of his child's arrival that has Wonder most excited these days.
"I waited 15 years (for another child), but things do happen, and is a boy me ah go fah this time, just like the music, yu caan predict what will happen, but is a boy me ah go fah," he told YardFlex.com with a sheepish grin.
Wonder got married four years ago, and has lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the past two years. His first daughter, Tiana, is 15. He said that it has been tough juggling both his work and family schedules.
The artiste's highly anticipated new album, 'Foreva' will be released next year, and he knows that once that album hits stores, he will have to be on the grind again, and separated from his family.
"Sometimes, for months, me no see mu family, but thank God, my wife is understanding and rate the work that I do," he said.
Wonder's songwriting, producing and smooth serenading have made him a staple in clubs for the past three years and kept him on the Billboard chart for several weeks when his monster hit "No Letting Go" bubbled from an underground sensation to crossover success. Wonder is trying to do it all over again, and he has a slew of new singles including 'Again' and 'Ready for Dem' on the Red Bull and Guinness rhythm.
"We are keeping the streets active," he told YardFlex.com.
Asked what were the reasons behind naming his album, 'Foreva', he responded:
"When people ask me how long I have been in the business, I usually reply, it's been so long, it seems like forever, so that seemed a good title for the album."
Wonder said he feels no "sort of pressure whatsoever" to duplicate the success of the 'No Holding Back' album.
"I am going to use the same formula like in the last album. I am working with producers such as 'Bulby', Delly Ranks, Lenky, Sly Dunbar and exclusives with Birch, as well as songs like 'Leaving' on my own Swingso Records. It's going to be good," he said.
"I like to reinvent myself, and challenge myself a bit by switching up things a bit, using different formats to keep creative juices flowing. Me still ah push it. As an artiste, you have to keep your focus, get real and keep the love that attracted you to the music in the first place," he said.

Izes, the man behind the Applause Riddim - Sean Paul's 'Temperature'
Photos By: Carlington Wilmot
ALL EYES ON: ISIS, HIT RIDDIM MAESTRO
Soundcheck, 1-2, 1-2. This Kingston-based beat meister has everyone trying to holla at him, as his dope riddims become the soundtrack to Jamaica's streets.
NAME: Adrian Marshall
Date of birth: 31/08/82
Schools: St. Mary High, and McGrath High in St. Catherine
RIDDIMS CREATED: Hail the I, Global, Applause, Cheerful, Crouch, Pitch Point
PAST HISTORY: "I always liked music, mi come a town after mi leave school inna 1998. Mi used to deejay, miu still deejay, ah so the interest come about. Is like a inborn ting, yu use vidi-controller and a computer, and mek the riddim. My first riddim was made in 1998, that's when decided that I wanted to make a riddim. But 'Applause' was the first riddim that mi release, and it go international. Mi feel blessed, coming from where me did a come form, it is a blessing. Mi work hard."
PEOPLE WHO MADE IT HAPPEN: Nuff people in the business, and in the streets know that I was the one who did it. Mi used to go Arrows studio, and one of the man dem who show me, Proony, he took me around to some people, and Sno Cone was one of them. Me go link sno cone pon mi own. Mi build Applause in 2003, and have it, and gave it to Cone.
CAREER CREDENTIALS SO FAR: I did Global for Firelinks, 'Heart Attack' #1 in New York reggae charts, Firelinks' 'Crouch', Sno Cone's 'Cheerful', and my personal ting,. 'Pitch Point'. He also did the Applause which spawned the Billboard chart-topper, 'Temperature', and Shane-O's definitive 'Lightning Flash'.
BUSINESS AND CREATIVE PHILOSOPHY: "We ah come different wid the ting dem. Mi no sell project, mi nah do that, mi nah tell no yute to do that, 'cause yu don't know where the riddim can go. Yu can get an upfront money, but that money is not for sale. Your work should not be for sale...anyone I am working with , must be thinking about hits."
ADVICE TO YOUTHS: Earn publishing, control your royalties and copyright ownership
Sno Cone ah real yute, him coulda tek it and say rrrhhh, a mine. But him always big me up, ah real yute.
NEW PROJECTS: I have a song name, 'I Swear' pon the Crouch riddim. Earlier in my career, I did a song called 'Hail the I' on the one-drop 'Hail the I', did a video, hold a little vibe. It neva buss, people know it. We still ah work pon that part of the ting,"
TECHNIQUE: I am not really a master yet at riddim-making, Sly and Robbie ah the master. I use the MPC every now and then, but mi mostly use the computer, if a man mi use the MPC, mi can do it, vidi-controller and computer create a futuristic style, not the basic everyday dancehall riddim."

School Boy takes it to another level

The streets are buzzing with talk of deejay Schoolboy's latest single, a combination with experienced deejay Future Fambo, that is so well-written, and artfully delivered that it is bound to be a hit with commercial radio here.

Riddims, videos and songs reviews
Carlington Wilmot Photo
RATING CHART
one star - it sucks
two stars - barely pass
three stars - good, but needs more juice
four stars - kicking on all cylinders
five stars - excellent, on toppa tings
SONG: Look Betta Dan Dem
ARTISTE: Blacka
DIRECTOR: Nordia Rose
RATINGS: THREE STARS
Where does Nordia Rose find these girls? These are some of the hottest video girls I've seen in a long time on local TV. The girl with the pair of pliers looking under the hood of the Subaru Impreza is the essence of crazy-sexy-cool. Nordia, mi need her number! Plus, yu have the video girl of the moment, Passion, doing her thing in a sexy black bikini bottom with a red top. The song isn't all that, some pedestrian lyrics over an ordinary dancehall rhythm, but the girls are da bomb! Still, Blacka, mi haffi say mi love the white suit, it sell off!
Nordia Rose does her best with her kinetic, free-styling cut-aways to different scenes and the use of different colourful backgrounds, and the video itself does have a vibe.
-- Jigga Mattic
SONG: Loco Amore
ARTISTE: Nanko
RATINGS: three stars
After debuting on Anthony Miller's ER in August, this video has been put in rotation in all local cable entertainment stations such as HYPE, RE and JUICE. and it is bound to become a favourite of the girls. This is one of the most cinematically excellent videos I have seen in some time with some amazing beach footage with Nanko hanging out with his 'love interest' in Portland. The video focuses on what the perfect relationship ought to be like, stressing on having vacations away together, and quality time with your amor as recipes for long lasting relationships. One thing is for sure is that when Jamaican women see this video, Jamaican men have to step up their game or else they might get kicked to the curb. That's the essence of what life is all about, loco amore (crazy love).
-Sean Miller
SINGLE: In Jamaica
ARTISTE: Little QT featuring Beenie Man and T.O.K
RATINGS: THREE STARS
Who is this little guy? Is it true that he came on the scene before QQ? Whatever the case, the little yute bad, deejaying about being in Jamaica in a tinny but cute voice. He combines well with arguably the best combination artiste of his generation, Beenie Man, on this bouncy single. QT's other superstar friends like T.O.K also show up on this cut that showcases the young singer's unique rapping abilities. Who knows? Maybe one day he will be able to do it all like his idol, Bow Wow.

RIDDIM REVIEW: BREATH A FIRE
ARTISTE: Various
RATINGS: Five Stars
Blaque Warriors, Represent! This riddim has already spawned a bonafide hit song, Forty Sup'em featuring the fireman himself, Capleton's 'Forty Sup'em' which is my favourite track on the 'Breath a Fire’. He starts out strong with his unique singing voice belting out: This train don't carry no back-biter, don't carry no informer, don't carry no vampire...something ah go happen tonight. This is priceless, and he actually samples the recently deceased Joseph 'Culture' Hill in his intro. The whole song is unrelenting in its energy, and Capleton ignites a big conflagration with his unapologetic attack on evil, and George Bush, Tony Blair, White House, Buckingham, Pentagon,Vatican, EU, G8 all get "torch fi nothing" in this rhyming onslaught. This song is already rocketing up the local RE and Richie B's Tru Juice charts.
Other standout tracks include Major Christie's 'She Won't Break My Heart', but it is Ras Myrdhak who chips with two phenomenal songs. One of them is 'Heights and Pray', a caustic confrontational take on how to handle life's curious little reverses and pressures, and one for the girls, when he deejays: Tonight, mi bash, check out mi jacket, it's a blazer/baby, let me put your telephone number in my Razr/Real rasta, yu know I'm not a player/I'm for real, damn, I'm gonna call ya. He claims he is a real rasta, but for his girls, he will give her chips, KFC, and lobster. Wha! Hear lyrics. Then he goes down in the chorus about how girls put insurance on his ah hem ah hem. Raunchy stuff, no?
Arguably one of the most entertaining songs is Nitty Kutchie/Jack Radics who does admirably on 'Dem Weak'. With 'No Fear Nobody', Elephant Man shows once again that he needs to change his flow or style because everything has begun to sound like 2003. Munga does well, but songs like 'Gotta Be Faithful' which deliver a positive message, Ras Ptah's 'Love and Unity' (delivered in the same pattern as Buju's 'Stamina Daddy') and Frisco Kid's 'Girls Like We' that deliver the kinetic spirit of dancehall.
Turbulence delivers a standout track, and his falsetto is kicking as he deejays about bedroom matters. Read: Say she has her man, but I do it better/ 'cause his thing is soft as cheddar/all he specializes in is headers/....and remarkable lines like..... banana nectar mek the semen fatter/steam veg, water cracker with okro and snapper...
Breath a Fire. Blazing, trust me.

Beenie Man, Wyclef Jean and Selah for Sting Miami Concert

International recording star Beenie Man and Haitian hip hop star Wyclef Jean and Selah have joined the lineup of this year's Sting Miami concert which is being billed as a 'Woodstock style peace festival', a far cry from the rambunctious, lyrical battle-focussed format that its organizers deliver in Jamaica.
Other artistes slated to perform include Ying Yang Twins, Turbulence, Richie Spice, Ninjaman and Gyptian.
YardFlex have a chat with newcomer Selah
Fresh off a scintillating performance at Irie Jamboree in New York , Selah is aggressively promoting his latest single, 'Lonely Girl' which will be released next week on the P & L Records imprint. The song, he says, is semi-autobiographical, written by a friend who had a failed love affair with a girl in his past.
"Yea, man, it's about a girl who had love but got broken-hearted, but although she needs love, is afraid that she will not find someone she can trust again, so she's very wary of dating and men in general. This is the kind of girl who's very selective, and whose trust is hard to earn, and that's why, the way things are, she may just end up a 'Lonely Girl'," Selah told YardFlex.com.
Selah will next be appearing on the Sting Miami concert this weekend and will be one of the acts on the 'Tribute to Peter Tosh' show in California on October 20th.

YARDFLEX GIRL OF THE WEEK

Sade - she's beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent and list goes on because no one word or three are enough to describe her stunning beauty that will lead any gazing eyes into a utility poll.
Sade is a young and ambitious resident of Kingston Jamaica whose ambition is to become a flight attendant and later, if God's willing a corporate lawyer. This tantalizing Taurus likes men "whose approach have to click in a certain way".

Fans Support Buju Banton - "freedom of speech."
By: Claude Mills
A vocal segment of the population of Bloomington, Indiana has come out in full support of reggae superstar Buju Banton, and are incensed that he was not allowed to perform in the Bluebird Theatre last week as part of his 'Too Bad' tour of North America.
YardFlex.com obtained a copy of a letter from a frustrated fan called Rob Council who wrote that: "...I am one of many who are frustrated that Buju's show was cancelled in our town of Bloomington Indiana. I have had many a heated discussion with my gay and straight friends about this matter. And I understand their need to feel safe. But think of all the people put there who are actually out there hurting people for sick reasons. Think of all the horrible things going on in our world. One man's words are but a drip in the bucket of f---d up things going on.
Buju wrote a song about an opinion of his, I don't personally agree with it. But it is the man's opinion. It shouldn't be a reason to not let him perform. It's like calling all people who listen to him "fag bashers" the same way people like to say that all folks that listen to electronic music are drug users or saying that anyone who listens to punk is a racist skinhead and so on and so on. By cancelling the show we are oppressing our most important freedom. That's the freedom of speech."
For their part, Gargamel Music is outraged that the owner and manager of the club, Dave Kubiak, lacked the spine or moral fibre to stand up to the outrageous demands of the gay rights activists.
"Kubiak sold us all out, he sold out Bloomington, he wasn't thinking about the bigger picture, he is a sell-out. How dare he call himself a Buju Banton fan?" Tracii McGregor, vice president of Gargamel Music, said.
"Others fans have come forward to say they are upset, I got a voice mail message from one just yesterday. The cancellation is not news, not as much as people think...there are other factors at play here."
YardFlex: Is racism playing a role in the continued persecution of one of reggae's greatest ambassadors?
"Yes, I believe so. Of course, Hurricane Katrina is a great example of that. There is a double standard that exists for people of colour as opposed to their white counterparts. This situation not only exists in America, it is a reality that people of colour have to endure worldwide. A few years ago, the entertainer Mark 'Marky Mark' Wahlberg beat up a Vietnamese man in Boston 15 to 16 years ago. Today, we assume that he has moved on from that sort of thing, but why aren't people of colour given the same courtesy? Why is that?” she asked.
Mark Wahlberg was briefly one of the original New Kids On The Block, but after three months, he left the group, and afterward, ran afoul of the law. In 1986 he was charged with racial harassment of a group of African-American students, and two years later he spent 45 days in prison after attacking a Vietnamese man. He is now a major movie star appearing in movies such as 'Italian Job' and 'Planet of the Apes'.
In the meantime, Buju Banton is being haunted by his past.
"Buju's song, 'Boom Bye Bye' spoke for him in 1992 and was in direct response to an incident covered in the Jamaican press at that time...it is the gay people who are breathing life into this song. Buju has made great songs since that, why is that song still being used against him 14 years later?"
Why indeed.

Juggling his recording career skillfully, along with a gruelling production schedule, Delly Ranx has kept coming with the goods from the moment he dropped the critically well-received 'Macka Tree', a one–drop rhythm in 2003. It was after that early success that Delly began to link up with Voice Mail, a collaboration that would once again establish him as a recording force to reckon with.
Together, they enjoyed a heady period when they reigned the charts. Now, oddly they have parted ways so much so that Delly said that the group leader Oneil 'only him have little realness and him link me up every now and then'.
"Mi meet Voice Mail in 2004 when it was five of them. They used to sing harmony for me, and then, dem slim down to three. One day, I was at Big Yard, writing a song for Tony Kelly's 'Grinding' when this tune come inna mi head, 'Say She Want It Hard', and same time, dem walk through the gate, and mi say to dem, 'da song ah go buss oonu'.
After that, producer Danny Champagne came up with the idea to team up Voice Mail, Bogle and Delly to do 'Weddy Time'.
"Me go check Bogle pon the corner, and den him come up ah Champagne fi record the tune. Voice Mail and me create the melodies for that tune, and as a result of that song, mi end up get the most improved artiste for 2004," he told YardFlex.com.
VOICE MAIL SWITCHES FROM 'DELLY'
Another hit, 'Ready To Party' followed, and it was produced by Danny Champagne. And then all of a sudden things changed.
"Me and Voice Mail ah gwaan good, and den the man dem get hype and switch pon me, star. Ah so me haffi say, cause mi no do dem nutten, it just happen sudden in about late 2004 and early 2005,and den when Bogle go dead, it further dampen the vibe, and kill the flex, so mi just low dem fi do dem ting," he told YardFlex.com.
"Mi see dem pon many occasions and dem a gwaan like me no exist, dem no memba say ah me help dem build, give dem idea, and show dem how fi rock show, but if yu figet weh yu come from, yu nuh have no where a go, and mi leave dem to time."
