'Sno Cone' Cuts Ties With Shane-O in Shock Move!

SnowConeB1.jpgBillboard-topping producer Rohan 'Sno Cone' Fuller has officially cut all management ties with Shane-O, the artiste who scored a local number one hit, 'Lightning Flash' on Cone's Applause rhythm last year, saying that the young artiste has become 'unmanageable'.

"Him nah tek no talk from nobody. In a little way, I saw it coming, he started to move hype, he stopped coming around me, especially after he stopped going to school in January, and he knows that I don't uphold with these things. How can you stop going to school
the year you're going to graduate?" Cone who says that
he thought of Shane-O as a son said.

Shane-O was signed to a four year deal with Sno Cone, but Cone is thinking about cutting him loose.

"He has allowed the people around him to tell him all kind of things. How he’s a big star and mi no buy him no car, and why him no fly out already? Plus he's doing a lot of songs out there for other producers
that is contrary to the image that he bussed with, remember that him buss with 'Lightning Flash' and 'Dogs in the Street', now he is doing slack songs, and I am getting the phone calls. Him nah tek no talk. It is not like him gone to another camp or anything, I am still his friend, but I cannot work with him on those terms," he told YardFlex.Com

Sno Cone has a new one-drop rhythm called 'Peace and Love' featuring artistes like Natural Black which is enjoying excellent rotation on local radio stations.

Galaxy P Transforms to Ras Ptah

RasPtah.jpgWhatever happened to Galaxy P? Remember he scored
big hits in the 90s.

He has changed his name to Ras Amun Ra Ptah.
"I decided to mek changes in my life, and move to a more spiritual and divine name, that's why I chose an ancient Egyptian name, Ptah, which means 'peace to the world'," he told YardFlex.Com.

Years ago, when he was riding high in the dancehall world, things took a dramatic turn for the worse in Galaxy P's life. He endured a particularly torrid 2003 when he was shot in his Greater Portmore
home by armed men, and then a few months later, the SUV in which he was traveling crashed in a major accident on the Washington Boulevard road in St. Andrew. The vehicle was written off, but no one died
in the accident.

"From I start to rass (grow locks) in 2005, things start to change for me. I see life differently, I read my bible and other books that teach me about life, and open up my eyes how to live as a man in this world. People even deal with me different since me rass, they are more respectful, even the radio disc jocks play me more, so it is a good thing to take things on a more spiritual level rather than a physical level," he told YardFlex.Com

Ras Ptah has a slew of new singles on his own Rattler Records imprint such as 'Life So Hard', 'Baby Don't Leave' and 'Tell Everybody'.
He will be appearing at Nuffy's annual 'Portmore Awards' stage show this weekend.

"There are a lot of things in the making, you will hear more about Ras Ptah," he said. His album, 'Changes', will be released in September 2006, and will be distributed by VP Records. He is now
walking the path firmly with Jah.

Gyptian Twin Sons Died - Then His Friend After - Heart Attack

By: Claude Mills

gyptian_yardflexTwins.jpgSuperstitious people are fond of saying that bad things often come in threes. And that dark belief appears to be holding true in singer Gyptian's life.

Five weeks ago, his twin sons died after they were born prematurely. A few weeks later, his favourite aunt suffered a serious stroke, and is just recovering. And just last Thursday, one of his best friends,
deejay Miguel 'Marco Brand' Skinner, died of what is suspected to be a heart attack. He was just 25 years old. Three strikes. Three bad breaks. Three. Good ole unlucky number three; a number that denotes 'dead' in the popular local 'drop pan' game.

Through all his recent adversity, Gyptian has maintained a veneer of calm and composure, but his friend's death was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, and opened up the flood gates of sorrow.

'When mi twins dem dead, mi heart start beat fast, but no water neva come to mi eye. But when mi hear that Marco Brand dead the Thursday, mi bawl, mi bawl' he was more than a friend; him come in like mi
bredda,' said Gyptian, whose seminal hit, 'Serious Times' topped all major charts locally and overseas last year.

'Just last Wednesday, me and the man mek a last spar. Him ask me fi go pon the road wid him, and normally, me is a yute no like go pon the road, but mi and him roll pon him bike, and after that, me and him share the last soup that him drink. Him drink half, and me tek some, and him ask if me waan done it, and mi say lucky ting yu did talk star cause ah dat me did ah go do, and we laugh, and ah the last spar that,' he said.

He recently recorded a combination single with Marco Brand called 'Never Trouble Nobody' that was set to be released this month.

Reggae Label Vizion Sounds opens $10M state-of-the-art Recording Studio

First_Born_in_studio.jpgEarlier this year, Guyanese reggae label, Vizion Sounds Records, launched its latest multi-million dollar investment project in Guyana, with the hope of giving Guyanese music a major boost on the international scene.

The $10 million state-of-the-art Vizion Sounds Promotion & Recording Studio opened its doors in March, enabling Guyanese musicians to now access international standard recording at home.

The hi-tech studio, located on Robb Street in Georgetown, can produce both analog and digital recordings and can accommodate up to 20 persons at one time.

Prime Minister of Guyana, Samuel Hinds, who attended the inaugural ceremony, lauded the continuous efforts of Vizion Sounds in building and investing in Guyana.

According to Guyana's Government Information Agency, the establishment of this studio ensures that international standard recordings can be produced in Guyana at a fraction of the cost.

To mark the opening, Vizion Sounds' promoter and owner, Walter 'Wally' Fraser, and manager Kevin Adonis organised a five-kilometre race in front of the studio and a football match to emphasise the importance of fitness in the music industry. He said that 5k runs along with other exercises would help singers to produce better notes.

"This is a breakthrough for 'Vizion Sounds' group First Born and the Guyanese music industry as a whole, as it means lower cost[s]...and greater access to all Guyanese wishing to make headway in the music industry," Adonis said.

According to Adonis, Fraser's goal is to establish a recording company that will provide greater marketing services to Guyana's aspiring musicians. The studio plans to have regular auditions to give Guyanese citizens the opportunity to showcase their talent.

"This will open the market for Guyanese artistes to attack the international market. We didn't have the quality before...now we have the quality," Adonis said.

Plans are also in train to develop a broad-based music school that will teach the basic composition techniques in music and technical aspects such as sound engineering.

Fraser, a Guyanese who worked for many years in the music industry in England, urged the Guyanese government, private companies and other stakeholders to collaborate in order to advance Guyana's music industry.

Vizion Sounds Records is the manager of Guyana's internationally recognised reggae music group First Born. The group has released five albums since its debut in the mid-1990s. Its latest is 'Irits', which was launched recently and has enjoyed tremendous response from music lovers all around the world.

First Born's recordings will now be done in Guyana at the studio. The savings will be great as the group usually travels to Jamaica six or seven times per year to record.

According to Adonis, a single recording at 'Vizion Sounds’ studio costs $4,500 as compared with the $8,000 it would cost to do it in Jamaica.

Vizion Sounds is a dream realized by Walter 'Wally' Fraser in unearthing and promoting budding talents with positive messages to spread, as well as getting the opportunity to produced some excellent music.

In 1995 Vizion Sounds International Promotions was established in Georgetown, Guyana, with the emphasis on bringing and promoting international reggae shows featuring such greats as Big Youth, Don Carlos, Sizzla, Luciano, the late Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Terror Fabulous and Buju Banton, to Guyana. At the same time the aim was to not only establish Guyana as a country with vision, but also Vizion Sounds as a company with insight, foresight and vision.

With these successes came a renewed sense of positive vibes and Wally chose to once again pursue his ambitions of music production on his own label, nurturing and displaying the talents of the young with positive messages to articulate.

Today, Fraser, Adonis and the Vizion Sounds team manage the careers of Guyanese reggae group First Born, singjay King Prof, singer Andrew Bees and the female trio LMJ.

The company has also released albums for several of reggae's veteran singers such as Bi Youth, Gregory Isaacs and Luciano, and has done work with Dennis Brown, Natural Black and Fantan Mojah, among others.

Producers of some excellent reggae music, some of the albums Guyana and Jamaica-based Vizion Sounds has produced include: 'Exodus Chapter XIII Verse 2', 'Confident', 'Wake Up Call' and 'Irits' from the quintet First Born; 'Iration' from Andrew Bees; 'Running Stream' from King Prof; Big Youth's 'Musicology'; Gregory Isaacs' 'Cutie Cutie' and 'Substance Free'; 'Gideon' from Luciano; and 'King Juggler' from various artistes.

Big A - The Real Big Man in The Bizness

BigA.jpgAinsworth 'Big A' Higgins has been a disc jockey with Jamaica's number one radio station, IRIE FM for 16 years since the inception of the all-reggae, all-the-time radio station. Now that he has made his name as a disc jock, he has begun to tackle new projects. Enter Footsteps, a production house set up with his good friend, Lyndon 'Laza' House. They have put out a number of musical rhythms that have done pretty well locally.

"I am just trying to follow in the footsteps of great producers like King Jammys and King Tubbys, and also leave my own footsteps in the sands of time, so that a few years from now, people can say Big A did it that way," he said, explaining the origins of the name, 'Footsteps'.

"We have a new project just drop called HWT (Half Way Tree), Anthony Cruz scored big, LUST has a song called 'You Got Me', Lady Saw has a song called 'What If' and Tanya's 'Rescue', all of these songs will be on the respective artiste's albums, so I am pleased with how things have gone. Sales were pretty decent, and we got good support across the board," he told YardFlex.Com.

Big A said a new project is set to drop a new project soon, but said that he wanted to pace his productions because "you cannot make it seem like a conflict of interest because I am on the radio in the capacity as a disc jockey, and anyway, it takes time to do quality music, and we love doing production."

The four-day festival will feature many artists and different forms of reggae music. The unique dual stages at the Richmond Estate near beautiful Ocho Rios in Jamaica's parish of St. Ann, will see the likes of Freddie McGregor, Marcia Griffiths and Gregory Isaacs, as well as Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, and “King of the Dancehall” Beenie Man, among others.

Reggae Sunsplash Jamaica takes pride in the bragging rights of having the original Reggae festival focused only on Reggae music with something to offer everyone. This year island natives and visitors alike will be poised to see Britain's most famous Reggae export and industry veterans UB40 take the stage.

"We are honoured this year to be bringing UB40 for the first time to Jamaica," says festival director of operations and production Charles Campbell, adding that UB40 will headline the Saturday International night at the festival.

Since their debut in 1980, and the release of their 1983 hit "Red Red Wine", which launched their career as an international super group, UB40 have released many more albums and toured the world many times over. It is only fitting that UB40's first-ever Jamaican performance will accompany the legacy and prestige of Reggae Sunsplash Jamaica.

Joining UB40 as part of Reggae Sunsplash Jamaica's international line-up will be Alpha Blondy, also appearing in Jamaica for the first time.

"[Alpha Blondy] really spans not just reggae but African beat and he has a tremendous following in Europe, in North America and reggae fans here [in Jamaica] know him for [the world-wide hit] Jerusalem which was done with The Wailers," states Campbell.

Reggae Sunsplash Jamaica will take place over the Jamaica Independence day weekend, August 3-6. Tickets are on sale now online at www.reggaesunsplashja.com or by phone at 1-888-SUNSPLA-SH.

Reneto Adams Rides Again

reneto_adams.jpgThe man that criminals and admirers call 'Saddam' is
back in the saddle again. It was announced earlier
today that the controversial cop Senior
Superintendent Reneto Adams had been reinstated to the
police force.

Mr. Adams was advised on Monday morning by
Commissioner of Police, Lucius Thomas, that he had
been reinstated retroactive to June 6.

"I am extremely elated and excited that I have been
given another opportunity to serve the Jamaican people
in a a new capacity in intelligence-gathering," the
man who has been a police officer for 39 years, said.

Director of Communications, Karl Angel, had earlier
informed reporters that SSP Adams would be in charge
of intelligence gathering.

"I am collating, and managing the intelligence in an
actionable context, I will report directly to the
Commissioner, and I am going to use all my energy and
skill to make it a success," the loquacious
crime-fighter said.

SSP Adams was removed from front line duty after he
was charged in connection with the Crawle shootings
where four persons, two men and two women, were
killed. The case was rigorously investigated by Deputy
Commissioner Mark Shields, however, Adams was
acquitted late last year, much to the chagrin of the
human rights organisations, and the British
government.

Adams has been involved in a number of controversial
shooting incidents including the West Kingston
shootings in Tivoli Gardens and the Braeton Seven
killings, both of which occurred in the year 2001.

"I am not going to miss the front line, I just want to
serve, whether it be the front line, the sideline or
the rear line, I just want to serve, I have never
asked for any special duties," he said.
Last year, Adams made a controversial single called
'To Protect and Serve' on the 'Carbine' rhythm at
Truckback studios in New Kingston. The song served a
stern warning to criminals, and became a cult classic
in Jamaican dancehall

Jamaica's First Celebrity Wedding On August 22nd

By: Claude Mills

Beenie&ANgelWeddingDate.jpgFinally. The date for perhaps the celebrity wedding of the year between dancehall maestro Beenie Man and model-turned deejay D'Angel will be on August 22nd this year -- a date that bears added significance since it coincides with Beenie Man's birthday.

"We're going to get married on August 22nd, but we're not ready to disclose the location yet because we don't want too many people showing up un-announced, or un-invited at the event. It's going to be an all-white wedding and yes, celebrities will be there, maybe even some of those artistes who will be performing at Summer Sizzle which is only a few days later," D'Angel told YardFlex.Com last night.

"With the wedding being held on my birthday, this way, at least I won't forget our anniversary," Beenie Man quipped.

D'Angel is already four months pregnant with her first child, and reportedly Beenie Man's seventh.

"I really want a girl, but Moses wants a boy, but either way, I'll be happy," she mused.

The couple's relationship has ignited a firestorm of media attention given the fact that D'Angel is the ex-girlfriend of Bounty Killer, Beenie Man's arch-rival in dancehall.

"I don't wish bad things for Bounty Killer, I know he's going through a difficult time right now, but we are adults here, let's just cut out the foolishness and go on with our lives...I am very happy and I wish Killer all the best with his life," she said.

Today, Bounty Killer will be hosting his own birthday bash, 'It's A Party' at the Constant Spring football field in St. Andrew, and feature performances by the Alliance, the Killer's clique of friends and fellow deejays.

Hollow Point - "The Top Dagger"

HollowPoint-CarlingtonWilmot-Photos_yardflex.jpgBrace yourself world for the next big thing, Shevon Toriano Stewart aka Hollow Point! A dapper, clean cut, quiet and humble artist, as we Jamaicans would say "one a way" meaning reserved. Do not be fooled by the flamboyant pretty boy look, Hollow point is a true gangsta much like his mentor the Wild Apachie Super Cat.

Hollow Point bounced back and forth between studios and producers for a little while before his cousin, dancehall artist Chico introduced him to his friend Alozade, who then introduced him to producer Scatta who made him a part of his camp for just about five years. He had a number of songs released on the Kings of Kings label in that time period.

After leaving this camp Hollow Point recorded for a selected few producers including Steelie and Clevie of studio 2000 .Cool Face another reputable producer introduced him to top record producer Don Carleon who gave him the opportunity to record a number of songs for his label including Most Infamous and the current smash hit Who Goes.

Hollow Point brings to the table versatility wrapped with a touch of yester-year the true core of reggae/dancehall music, breaking down all barriers and taking no prisoners. His journey to the world of entertainment has been a slow one but with time and patience he is far in the direction of becoming a superstar.

Chris Goldfinga of Golden Cartel/Universal Dancehall was one of the first producers to take Hollow Point's work to Greensleeves records when he recorded him on the Hard Drive riddim song title, Got You Deh. Clearly there was an interest in managing his career from then. Now under this new management Hollow Point hopes to establish his place in the international arena.

Hollow Point a complete package, good lyrics, good looks, great flow, topped off with a humble persona. A true legend is in the making.

Film-maker RACHID BOUCHAREB is set to direct the project which is the brainchild of the ONE LOVE star's widow RITA. Bouchareb says, "I've always liked the story of what made Marley the man. "I want to look at him as a child through to a young man, and how he became interested in Africa."

Bob Marley His-story
In the year 1944, Captain Norval Marley married a young Jamaican girl named Cedalla Booker. On February 6, 1945 at two thirty in the morning their son, Robert Nesta Marley was born in his grandfather's house. Soon after Bob was born his father left his mother. He did however give financial support and occasionally returned to see his son.

It was now the late fifties, jobs were scarce in Jamaica, so Bob followed his mother from their home in St. Ann to Trenchtown (West Kingston) to seek employment in the big city. Trenchtown got it's name because it was built over a ditch which drained the sewage of old Kingston. In Trenchtown Bob spent a lot of his time with his good friend Neville Livingstone who people called by his nickname, Bunny.

Also in the big city Bob was more exposed to the music which he had loved, including such greats as Fats Domino and Ray Charles. Bob and Bunny attended a music class together which was held by the famous Jamaican singer Joe Higgs. In that class they met Peter Macintosh and soon became good friends. Angel & Sizzla Kalonji Warm Up With Good Loving

SizzlaKalonji_YardFlexCarlingtonWilmotPhoto.jpg'Good Loving', a new collaborative effort between singer Angel Shalome and Sizzla Kalonji, looks set to become a staple at radio. The track, produced by Delroy 'Fatta' Pottinger, highlights the vocal capabilities of Angel, and features a scrumptious bout of toasting from Sizzla.

An honest _expression of true love, Good Loving stirs up memories of Dawn Penn's 90s hit, No No No. Early signs of the song's impact are evident with strong saturation on local airwaves.

Angel, whose video Where Were You enjoyed heavy rotation last year, was featured on the Ice Cube rhythm-laced Take it Off.

With the success of Sasha and Turbulance's We Got the Love, the doors have now been swung open to usher in similar recordings, and Good Loving might just be the next breakout from the batch.

Tami Chynn: The Princess of Eclectic Dancehall

tami_chynn_oe.jpgEven though technically, twenty-two-year-old Tami Chynn is a new artist, she's managed to hone her skills with some of the best. Before recording her solo album, Out of Many... One, which drops on Friday, June 30, she'd already appeared on tracks with Sean Paul, Beenie Man, and Lady Saw. In addition, just in March, the Kingston, Jamaica native's hard work paid off when she was nominated for the "Best New Entertainer Award" at the International Reggae and World Music Awards.

Fresh off of a whirlwind club tour in the U.S., Chynn kicks it with VIBE.com about her musical family, her new album, and about being compared to other Caribbean female artists.

Vibe: Tell me about your musical background.

Tami Chynn: My mother was a vocalist and she played the trumpet. My father was also a musician, he played the drums and the bass guitar. When I was growing up, they were both in a band called The Carnations, so I was always around music

Do you play any instruments yourself?

Tami Chynn: I dabble a little every now and then with the guitar, but I'm not really a musician. I'm more of a singer and performer.

What made you first realize singing was your calling?

Tami Chynn: I've loved music for as long as I can remember. But I started seriously pursuing a musical career when I was 17. That was the first time I ever recorded a song.

How would you describe your sound?

Tami Chynn: I'd call it eclectic dancehall. I take every type of music like, jazz, hip hop, reggae, everything and serve it on the plate of dancehall, and then some.

Mr. Peppa Robbed by Armed Thugs

By: Jigga Mattic
YardFlex Reporters

Mr.Peppa_Robbed.jpgDeejay Jahzeal 'Mr. Peppa' Walters was robbed of US $1,500, two Razr phones, and a television set on Saturday morning by a gang of robbers who invaded his rented home on Roehampton Drive off Mannings Hill road in Upper St. Andrew.

"A group of four men, one with a gun, the other with knives broke into the deejay's home at about 4 a.m. and ask, deejay, 'where the money yu bring back from foreign de?' They put him to lie down on his face, and proceeded to rob him. There is a door that leads to an adjoining room where the landlord and his family lives, and the men went in on them as well and put them to lie down on their faces, and robbed them as well. They took away television sets, money and jewelery and escaped in the landlord's car," Mark Pinnock, chief executive officer of Natural Bridge Records and manager of Mr. Peppa, told YardFlex.Com.

The car was later found abandoned on Waltham Park road, and its four tyres and radio were missing. The deejay had only returned to Jamaica a few hours earlier where he'd gone to participate in the Irie Jam Celebrity Soccer match in New York.

"When the men were leaving, they said, 'deejay ah the work we de pon, ah just how the system set up'," Pinnock said. "Mr. Peppa is a bit shaken up, but he sounds upbeat about the whole thing, he can always work and buy back valuables, what is important is that he was not harmed during the robbery."

The Constant Spring police, who are investigating, believe that the robbers may be the perpetrators behind a string of armed robberies committed in the area recently. Two weeks ago, deejay Spice was also robbed by an armed man who broke into her Mannings Hill Road apartment while she was sleeping, and robbed her of a large sum of cash and other valuables.

Baby Cham's Ghetto Story Part II Features Akon

AkonBabyCham.jpgCham is taking his game to another level. He has teamed up with Senegalese singer, Akon, to do the remix to his hit tune, Ghetto Story, where Akon takes the time out and sings of his story.

While Cham's Ghetto Story is reminiscent of his rough childhood (sleeping "on a big piece of foam" and not liking to bathe or comb his hair), Akon's story is a little different. He tells of being "born poor like many men" until he went "to America tryin' to make something out of nothing."

Akon and Cham take turns singing and spitting, respectively, about their stories. It's an interesting mix.

'Mr. Peppa Songs To be Played on Hot 97.1FM - 'Dats Betta'

By: Claude Mills

Mr.Peppa_Hot97.jpgBrooklyn, New York:
Earlier this week, Mr. Peppa of 'Hypocrite' fame, landed a big break when he voiced three drops for DJ Jazzy Joyce, one of the top female disc jockeys on Hot 97.1 FM in New York.

He recorded dub plates of his dancehall hit, 'Hypocrite' on Cam'ron's 'Touch it or Not', then he did 'Gangsta Guerilla' on another Cam'ron joint, 'Wet Wipes' from his album called 'Killer Season', and even flipped a few rhymes on a reggaeton beat.

DJ Jazzy Joyce will be playing this Friday at 8 p.m. during her show, 'Ladies Night' which she hosts alongside DJ Coco Chanel, and who knows, she might just drop one of those dub plates tonight.
Mr. Peppa seemed pretty pleased with the opportunity.

"Well, it was a motivation to know that somebody of that caliber acknowledged an upcoming talent for Mr. Peppa. Used it as an inspiration to move forward," he told YardFlex.Com while hanging out at the Purple Chrome recording studio in the Bronx.

The New York trip has borne a lot of delightful new prospects for the deejay and he has been 'in the streets' making links with producers and players in the music biz.

"While I was at the HC & F studio in Long Island, I was voicing a song and the people who affiliated with a new artiste that G unit is looking to sign, heard me and expressed an interest in me being on a track with him and they plan to send on the track and we'll take it from there," Mr. Peppa revealed to reporter Jigga Mattic.

Mr. Peppa will be performing on a show next Wednesday in Hartford, Connecticut, on June 7, 2006.
