The Birth of Mafia House Productions - Beenie, D'Angel & Don Mafia

By: Claude Mills
Photos By: Carlington Wilmot

MafiaHousebirthCarlingtonWilmotPhoto.jpgFamily is forever. That's the main reason that Beenie Man, the self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall, has formed his very own production house, Mafia House Productions. In this venture, he will be the Capo di tutti capi (boss of bosses) of a group of talented artistes that will include D'Angel, real 'stand-up' guys like Don Mafia, and Hugh Lynch the studio engineer.

"In February last year, we registered the domain name, Don Mafia for the website, and we have gradually put things into play. My upcoming album has a lot of Mafia House-produced tracks, and with Angel coming on board, it compliments the whole thing. Director Nordia Rose is also a key part of the whole thing, we seek out and get the best talent...ah Mafia House ting," Beenie Man told YardFlex.Com.

Beenie Man, who is a Grammy winning artiste signed to Virgin Records, is intent on establishing Mafia House as a big player in the international dancehall market, and is seeking out talented artistes who can help to form the core of what will be a powerful new force in the business.

MafiaHousebirthCarlingtonWilmotPhotoD.jpg
"It is already in the works where Mafia House will be signed to an international label, even Scott Starks wants to sign us now because he is so confident in what we have to offer, but we want to build an independent company, and then carry what we have built in to a major record company...we are not going to run into anyone," Beenie said confidently.

"Mafia House Productions is a lyrical continent, some man have lyrical content, we have the lyrical continent...Content is just a small place inna St. Elizabeth," he quipped.

One key member of Mafia House is Hugh Lynch, a.k.a Nose, known for his innovative beats and his uncanny instinct for hit rhythms, who will be the main engineer behind the productions. However, the media buzz presently surrounds the red-hot rookie to the Dancehall Game, Angel, who is Beenie Man's latest protege'.

MafiaHousebirthCarlingtonWilmotPhotoA.jpg
"I feel very good about the whole thing, I am very excited to be on board. Last year was a productive year for me, and this year is shaping up to be even better, hooking up with Moses, he can take my career to a new level," Angel said.

Angel shot into the public eye last year with her hit single, 'Downtown Girl Living an Uptown Life' that established her as an artiste in her own right.

"It's just a blessing what I have been able to accomplish, and a lot of obstacles that I faced along the way only served to make me stronger," she said.

She will be working on her debut album which has been tentatively entitled, 'Blessed Child' on which she will be working with top-notch local and overseas producers.

"I have met Scott Starks, the real big man, and I am looking forward to meeting, and possibly working with Jermaine Dupri in the future, Beenie is opening a lot of doors for me, I admire his work ethic and his no-nonsense approach to the music, he is taking my career to extreme heights," Angel said.

Asked about the challenges she will face working with Mafia House Productions, she responded confidently:

"I am ready for the war, ready for the challenge, I know that doing this project with Beenie Man may attract some amount of opposition from people, but just looking at Beenie's life, he's been through a lot, and he has persevered, and succeeded at the highest level, he is a fighter, I am a fighter, and I know that Mafia House Productions will be a huge success."

MafiaHousebirthCarlingtonWilmotPhotoB.jpg
Angel and Beenie Man will be shooting a video for the radio hit, 'One Man', a combination single on the Global rhythm that has been blowing up all over FM radio in Jamaica.

"There will definitely be more combinations in store for the future, and Beenie is always supportive, he did a few ad libs, and the intro for my latest single, 'Death Row' and we are looking forward to working together on many more projects in the future," she said.

In the meantime, the boss will be ensuring that his very own 'Cosa Nostra', Mafia House Productions explodes with a bang in the marketplace.

"We're going to do it real big, we're going to use my Hummer as a promotional vehicle for Mafia House, ah mad ting, dem caan deal wid it, everyting billias," he said, with his trademark chuckle.

Beenie Man's long-time 'consigliere', Don Mafia, the man who has penned a number of hits including last year's runaway hit 'One Bag a Lie', may also play an integral part in the project.

Beenie Man is confident that the project will not distract him too much from his contractual obligations to Virgin Records which will release his 'Undisputed' album - the fourth of a five-album deal -- in June this year.

"My time with Virgin has been sweet, I have been able to go around the world, without Virgin, that would not have been possible, because of Virgin, mi tour the world twice, 13 years straight, mi a perform all over the world, from the top to the bottom, but as soon as mi album deal is over, ah it that, mi a sign Mafia House to a major international label," he said.

Bounty Killer and CeCile Dating?

By: Jigga Mattic

Bounty&CecileYardFlex.jpgTalk about your unusual 'Changes'.The streets have it that Cecile, who recorded 'Woman Tings', a big top ten hit last year, may be involved in an intimate relationship with deejay Bounty Killer a.k.a 'The Warlord'.

Word is that the two have been spotted on cozy dates in and around the Corporate Area, and Cecile frequents Oaklands Apartments, home to many top entertainment personalities, including Bounty Killer.
However, when YardFlex asked the successful female deejay about the relationship, she denied it.

"Think is Beenie and D'Angel this?" she asked playfully. "I got my man, everybody knows I've got my man. Ah same way dem spread rumour say mi tek out one of my ribs and have surgery fi mek mi stomach smaller fi get my new makeover. But nutten nuh go so. Bounty is not what everybody thinks he is...he is not the Warlord, Bounty is cool."

Still, tongues continue to wag about this unlikely pairing. That's it for now, this is Jigga Mattic reporting live on a Dell laptop via a wireless Miphone connection from the parking lot of the Courtleigh Hotel.

Before I go big up mi fren Warlington - yuh large.

Maja - Jamaica's First Int'l Gospel Awards Show

majaAward.jpgIn June of this year, the very best from among Jamaica's crop of talented Gospel Artistes at home and overseas will be brought together for Jamaica's first international Gospel awards, the Maja Awards. The event will be held on June 10 and 11 in the Kingston and St Andrew area.

The first evening will be entitled "People's Choice Nomination Concert". This production will bring together a star-studded line-up of local and international Jamaican recording gospel artistes. The audience will be treated with a show of the highest calibre and will be asked to vote for the "People's Choice Artiste of the Year".
On Sunday evening, June 11, there will be the Maja Awards Red Carpet Gala Affair.

In 1985, Jamaican-born Fitzroy Gordon, a broadcaster living in Canada, created a gospel awards to highlight and reward those within the gospel music industry in the Toronto area.

According to Gordon, the Maja Awards, which means "major or excellence", has now grown to become Canada's national premiere gospel awards. Although the awards are scheduled to be launched in England and major cities in the USA, Gordon believes that bringing it home to Jamaica is indeed the icing on the cake. "I am so happy to be taking the Majas to the land of my birth. I always wanted to make a significant contribution to Jamaica and I thank God for giving me this wealth called the "Maja Awards" to share with my people," said Gordon.

Maja Jamaica will be awarded in three categories: (1) The Recording category - for gospel artistes with recordings to their credit, (2) Gospel Star - gospel's alternative to American Idol. This category caters to emerging or artistes without a recording to their credit, and (3) Service Category - for Jamaicans who have served humanity with distinction. This can be from the Church, the public or private sectors.

Fantan Mojah's 'Hail The King' Goes #1

FatanMojahAlbum.jpgDownsound Recording artiste Fantan Mojah now has the number one album in Jamaica. The album, 'Hail the King' vaulted to the pole position on local charts this week.

"I am just grateful to my fans who are supporting my album in Jamaica, mi love the support," he said. "The album is also doing well overseas, in fact, a few weeks ago, the album was leading Jr. Gong, and even I-Wayne on the reggae album charts in Europe, and only Lucky Dube was ahead of me. The people are responding to me, Downsound is already into the third pressing of the album so we are registering a lot of real sales and subsequent re-orders which shows that we are quickly gaining momentum," Fantan told YardFlex.

The album was released last December, and Fantan has two tours set for Europe to promote the LP. One of those tours is a four-week trek through select European cities in early Fall, and the other is a monster 45-gig, eight-week swing through Europe during the Summer which will see the Downsound recording artiste hitting the festival circuit and club dances.

"This will be the third time that I will be going to Europe in the last 12 months, and I am looking forward to it. Right now, Fantan is all about the message, I embrace different musical genres, opening the door for all to move forward," the artiste said.

Aquatic Park for Negril-Jamaica This July

US$6.5 million (J$422 million) Disney-style waterpark.

AquaticPark.jpgThe state-of-the-art aquatic amusement centre, which is to be opened in July, will be the first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean.

The family entertainment centre, slated for erection on five acres of land across from the seven miles of Negril beach, will change the hospitality landscape in the resort town, which is currently home to the multibillion-dollar, world famous Rick's Cafe, but few other attractions.

Negril is a major tourism mecca, and the waterpark is expected to complement the many hotel rooms and recent tourism development within the area. Insiders say that 250 Jamaicans will be employed to the theme park, reducing the high level of unemployment in the parishes of Hanover and Westmoreland.

The project is the brainchild of former Negril hotelier Dr. Garfield Munroe, managing director of Poinciana Resorts Limited, which operated the Poinciana Beach Hotel (now Sandals Sandy Bay), Negril, for several years before leasing the property to Gordon 'Butch' Stewart.

The park will feature nine major water attractions, including an extensive lazy river that meanders around the property, a kiddy's pool with full interactive play centre, in addition to two main restaurants, four juice bars and three museums.

There will be something for everyone at the park as currently, there are plans to develop a theme that features rural Jamaican life on the property, plus the construction of cabanas for a little leisure time for the elderly , while fathers can lounge and chat about pro sports in an upper level sports bar on the property.

Death Knell for Death Row

DeathRow.jpgA judge has frozen the assets of Marion "Suge" Knight, including his Death Row Records label, after finding the rap mogul had avoided paying a $107 million civil court judgment won last March.

In another twist, the ruling alsao favors an imprisoned drug dealer, who wants half of a $107 million court award to his wife, Lydia Harris, who claimed Knight cheated her out of a 50 percent stake in the rap label.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald Sohigian said Knight, who co-founded Death Row with rapper Dr. Dre in the early 1990s and helped launch the careers of performers Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur, could stave off the order if he fully disclosed his assets in a debtor's exam set for April 1.

A lawyer for Knight, Dermot Givens, said later the judge had not formally signed an order taking control of the rap mogul's assets, and Givens expected to have it overturned by proving Knight and Harris had reached a settlement in the case.

"In May of 2005, she received a million dollars and rights to various music, and she signed a settlement agreement," Givens told Reuters. He said Harris was trying to back out of that settlement under pressure from her ex-husband, Michael, who would be entitled to share in the original $107 million judgment.

Could all these protracted difficulties sound the death knell for Death Row?
We shall see what we shall see.

Hayee: You've Got Voice Mail

voicemail-YardFlex.jpgIt is hard to go to any local stage show and not be graced with the unique sound, Hayee which alerts you that 'you've got mail;' Voice Mail. The dancehall trio has been making waves in the Jamaican music industry for quite sometime. However, it was when they flipped it a little and piggybacked on the vibrant dancing culture that leading Dancehall artist, Elephant Man revived, that they made a lasting impression in the music mind of the populace.

The group comprises of three very talented and hardworking young gentlemen and their dynamic personalities add to the synergy of the group. Kevin, a former model is very low profile and comments that "I'm just a happy go lucky person... always ready for anything."

Craig on the other hand, is a perfectionist when it comes to recording and is considered as the most miserable. Nevertheless he is also the most fun loving and comical. O'Neil, who is very business oriented, is considered the "unspoken boss."

Voicemail has seen many hits songs. These include: Weddy Time, the successful collaboration with Gerald 'Bogle' Levy, Get on Up, Do What you Feel Like and the chart stopper tribute to Bogle Wacky Dip. The Reggae/ Dancehall 2005 Year in Review also deemed Voicemail, Group of the Year. O'Neil commented on the group's success and expressed the group's desire to remain consistent.

Their debut album Hayee was released in Japan on Sunday, January 1 and was released every where else in the first week of February. The album has 17 tracks with seven new songs. They worked with producers such as Danny Champagne, Tony Kelly, Christopher Birch, Nigel Staff, The Ballaz, Michael Fletcher, Robert Livingston, Don Corleone, and Alric and Boyd.

So whether it is a Community link up stage show, an internationally acclaimed event like Reggae Sumfest or just chilling at the popular night club, the Quad, listen out for the sound 'hayee' because Voicemail will be there.

Radam – Complicated, Controversial & Committed to the Cold Hard Truth

RadamYardFlexB.jpgRadam is a nightmare for potential managers and potential A & R representatives alike. He is fiery, cocksure, brash and has a quiet intensity that makes you want to take a step back.

But Radam has been raising eyebrows in dancehall circles for his catchy street anthem, 'Dam Dam', which is set to propel him into the Dancehall Game in a big way. But it has been a hard road to get to the point where he is now, all grown up and on the verge of stardom.

As a toddler, Radam's parents left him in the care of his grandmother who found that she couldn't manage to properly discipline the hell-raising teen who gave no end of trouble while attending Hope Bay All Age school in St. Mary.

"She couldn't control me, I had no father figure and I usually give her pure problem to the point where I ended up in reformatory school. I don't regret it though, if it wasn't for that, mi woulda dead already, Sister Mary Ignatius reach me as a mother, she was the boss," the man born Lincoln Dwight Hamilton said, smiling.

RadamYardFlexA.jpg
After leaving Alpha Boys Home, he landed a job at a coffee plantation for two years, and it was during this time, he was turned onto dancehall music by one of his friends, Daniel, the son of radio personality and former Member of Parliament Ronnie Thwaites, who used to sneak out to go deejay at the Guava Ridge club, not far from the Thwaites home.

"He was the one who made me start deejaying. In fact, it was his sister, Anne, who took me to my first stage show at Cinema II because she was a big Pinchers fan," he said.

After leaving the coffee plantation, he worked at various companies because he believed he was too feisty to join the long queue of other artistes begging for a chance to record.

"I don't like the begging ting, so mi just work straight, I never thought you could mix the two because if you deejay on the job, your employers might fire you because your mind's not there," he said.

However, before he could pursue his recording dreams, he migrated to England in 2001.

But the siren call of the music haunted him still.

"My friends kept telling me to be a deejay. Blacka Dread who owns one of the biggest record stores on Cold Harbour Lane, pressured me to return to Jamaica to do music the way he believed in me," he said.

So he obliged. In 2003, he returned to Jamaica to focus all his creative energies on his music.

RadamYardFlexC.jpg
"I believe that once you have talent, honesty and manners, then you deserve to get the break. Some producers want to use you, have you wash dem car, and mi no join dem ting de, king," he said. "When I meet a producer, I tell him to punch me like ajuke box, tell me what you want to hear and I can deliver. I know I can do this."

Confidence is not a commodity in short supply when it comes to Radam.

"When mi go to Buju studio, or Annx on Dunrobin, the man dem hail mi like Hitler. Radam-dam-dam," he said. "People flock me like mi buss at Payne Avenue, anywhere I go, people rate me, so much people caan tell lie. Mi no normal."

He has not pierced his ears, and sports a single gold tooth. Up close, he is a cauldron of smoldering intensity. You can see it in his eyes, and the way the creases in his forehead form like small hills, and tendons in his neck stand out like a nest of snakes whenever he deejays a song. He puts his entire being into his delivery, and you can't help but watch him do his thing. He has recently hooked up with music producer Courtney Laing of Hemp Higher Records, and his latest single, 'Dam Dam', is already a favourite at stage shows across the island. He recently shot a video for the single, a move that has upped his profile, and introduced him to a legion of new fans. Other follow-up singles include 'Dog', 'Shaggin' and 'Glass'. Radam is capable of cutting social commentary as well as evidenced by lines like: have people inna bondage/in a two slice of bread like egg sandwich.

"I have to make it, too much people believe in me, I was born to do this," he said.

We believe you. Radam. Just shine and do the damn thing.

Shemara - Precious Charms - Sexy Jamaican Beauty

By: Jigga Mattic
Photos By: Carlington Wilmot

ShemaraCYardFlexCarlingtonWilmotphotos.jpg
Shemara has a big problem that refuses to go away. Guys keep staring at my boobs, she breathed almost petulantly/
And I can see why! Who can blame men? Who wouldn't stare at those gazangas? After all, this gorgeous undergrad is a drop dead knock-out lass with boobs like intercontinental missiles.

With her overpowering sexuality and her outsize assets, she is sure to turn heads and get loads of unwanted attention from men, and playa-hating stares from envious females wherever she goes. YardFlex caught up with her in Lime Cay recently where she had just showed her potential star power by just commandeering the set of a Wata video shoot with her sassy moves and perky, can-do personality.

ShemaraYardFlexCarlingtonWilmotphotos.jpg
Favourite colour: red
Zodiac sign: Libra
Favourite movie: Don't Be a Menace to Society While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood
Favourite artiste/song: Eminem's 'Mocking Bird'. I love all his songs, but I am addicted to a few like 'Cleaning Up My Closet' where he gives his innermost thoughts on things that are going down in his life, it's almost like reading great literature.
Ambitions: to become a criminal lawyer, and eventually a judge

Major influences: Sabelia, my older sister who has a million and one degrees, and Italee, who is a singer and producer. I have a split personality, I am both a bookworm and a fun-loving person so I can channel either one to get the results that I am looking for, and these different sides represent my two sisters.

Guiding philosophy: Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability. Age Quod Agis.

ShemaraBYardFlexCarlingtonWilmotphotos.jpg
Qualities looking for in a man: Confidence. Someone who respects me personally and doesn't stare at my chest first, a man I can relate, who I share common interests with.

B.I.G's 'Ready to Die' Album Sales Halted by Courts

notoriusbig.jpgAccording to a story from Yahoo on the Net, a judge halted sales of Notorious B.I.G.'s breakthrough 1994 album "Ready to Die" after a jury decided the title song used part of an Ohio Players tune without permission.

The jury Friday awarded $4.2 million in punitive and direct damages to the two music companies that own rights to Ohio Players recordings.

The sales ban imposed by U.S. District Judge Todd Campbell affects the album and the title song in any form, including Internet downloads and radio play.

It was unclear when or how the ban would take effect. By Saturday evening, a search of BestBuy.com and Amazon.com showed "Ready to Die" was still available for purchase online.

The jury decided that Bad Boy Entertainment and executive producer Sean "Diddy" Combs illegally used a part of the Ohio Players' 1992 song "Singing In The Morning."

Bridgeport Music and Westbound Records, which owned the song rights, have filed hundreds of lawsuits over "sampling," the practice of lifting parts of old music for new recordings. Most were settled out of court.

Top Female Video Director Nordia Rose is Well

NordiaRoseYardFlex.jpgNordia Rose says that she is feeling much better physically these days following a recent scare when she was hospitalised for two days last month on what should have been the second day of a T.O.K photo shoot when she became dehydrated and had to be given an IV.

"From my mother was pregnant, she had to take iron injections because she didn't have enough iron in her blood. So as I grew up, I found that I had to take iron tablets as I was tested at two different schools and the same result, low iron. Because of that, I have to eat a lot of fruits, a lot of callaloo, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drink a lot of fluids," she told YardFlex.Com.

We caught up with her while she was backstage at the Spring Break show in Negril.

Arguably Jamaica's busiest music video director, she has a host of new projects coming up with Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel and she has been chosen to shoot Beenie Man's 'Heart Attack' video.

Swing Eh 'Weh in Barbican, The Uptown Garrison

Rolling Wid PaPa & Razzi

BeenieManSiwngEhWehYardFlex.jpg
SOLD OUT! When Beenie Man shot the video for his new single, 'Swing Eh Weh' in Barbican Place, the uptown garrison, it was no comparison, the whole community came out for the event. School kids coming home from school stopped by, mangy dogs and even an old codger that looked like he must have had his last erection in 1987 showed to ogle the winking bellybuttons, exposed thighs, and daring fashions of the Barbican hotties at the video shoot.

It's the first time that Pappa and Razzi have ever seen so many girls dressed up in their finest on a hot, Tuesday afternoon, even the bleached-out face ones who normally scorn the sun like it's something lethal appeared in their numbers. And Kingston, de gal dem hot!

Papa&Razzi.jpg"Today, ah normal day, and look how the gal dem dressed to impress," one man said, a big grin spreading across his black oily face. "Yo, ah history dis!".

When Pappa and Razzi got there, Beenie Man was cracking jokes about deejays with 'hurricane tongues', dissing the 'ugly girls', and boasting about 'how blessed he was'. He even deejayed snatches of a new song called 'Whe' that he seemed to be in the process of writing.

Eventually, the video shoot kicked off. Director Abidan Campbell of Green Gorilla Media Ltd. shot a scene where Beenie Man, in full black, and the dancer Sample - creator of the Swing It' Weh dance - faced the cameras while a small army of women stood in the background behind him. Jamaica is one of those few places left where ordinary women of all shapes, colours, sizes and looks can find their way into music videos. The director shot a few scenes of people coming out of the land, demonstrating the arm-heavy dance while marching in double file. Quite a few of them were seen rubbing their shoulder blades after a few takes. Cha-ching for the doctors and chiropractors.

Why?

BeenieManSiwngEhWehYardFlexA.jpgBecause Swing Eh' Weh, is a dance designed by a man with a fiendish imagination, possibly with the express purpose of creating a brand new set of dance-related injuries. Check this out: the dance is done by leaning forward at an angle, while swinging your right arm in a quickly rotating circle. It is a dance that is calculated to put pressure on, and possibly throw out your rotator cup, or maybe, to put out an eye of the unsuspecting person standing next to you. It will soon be a favourite in many hospital wards, and doctors’ offices across the island.

But for that day, 'Swing Eh' Way' from Sample 6 was the name on everybody's lips. Big up Zumjay who dropped by, as well as the Sample 6 dancers, BIG UP Jackie Sample, the big man's baby mother, respect to Park Girls and the 3-5 massive, as well as Mikey Matthis. Extra special big up to the cute cute browning inna the white and blue, yu look good bad!

'Bling Bling' - Check Out D'Angel's Ring

By: Claude Mills

D'AngelRingPhotoByCarlingtonWilmot.jpg
D'Angel has decided to break her self-imposed silence and sat down with an editor to reveal intimate details of her recent engagement with Virgin Records Grammy winning artiste Beenie Man.

According to D'Angel, Beenie flew to England more than two weeks ago and whisked her away to a private spot to propose to her.

"He engaged me in a limousine and he gave me an expensive ring, that was so romantic!" she told YardFlex.Com.

Although she was tight-lipped about the cost of the ring, when pressed, she admitted that the ring could have cost in the region of US$100,000. She even wore the ring onstage at a recent 'Spring Break 06' concert in Negril, confirming the rumours that were circulating around the country last weekend.

D'Angel was almost euphoric with adoration for her famous lover who apparently has swept her off her feet with his affection towards her.

"I've never been in love so much from the day mi born. I have never been with a man who loves and respects me so much before, and I love him for that. When I get home, I cook for Moses, I take care of him because that is a woman's job, I do everything for Beenie because he is my man, nothing is too good for him."

"I am not normally an excited person, I am always laid back, never excited so this is a new feeling for me, just being excited that he is around, I really realize that I love him.

Asked about the bitterness which may still be in the air over her public break-up with fellow deejay Bounty Killer, a man who has been embroiled in a decade-long acrimonious musical feud with Beenie Man, D'Angel said:

"The experience was bad, but I have moved on emotionally, physically and mentally, I don't even remember anyone else," she said, smiling. "It's all about Moses right now. He's all the man I’ve ever wanted and thinking about the past is irrelevant."

Do you think that Beenie is serious about you?

"He wants to keep me for the rest of his life, I know he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. I am the complete package, he calls me his ultimate woman."

Did you believe this sort of love would ever happen to you?

"No...not really, maybe it is because I have never met anyone who truly appreciates me for me, I was in a bad relationship for so long, I never knew what was like to be appreciated because I was ignored and underappreciated for so long, but I am glad I met Moses, this is my chance for love, I never knew what it was like until now...more love, more life, bigger and better things in the future."

It is apparent that the announcement has rocked the entertainment fraternity and dancehall fans, and given the range of passionate responses, the development has divided them as well.

Beenie and D'Angel will appear on Anthony Miller's ER tonight, and on CVM's Onstage tomorrow to discuss the relationship, which they say will be their last public discussion of their engagement.

Alozade Turns Up The Heat - 'Bad Out Deh'

ALOZADE_0I.jpgDeejay Alozade is hot on the music scene again, ripping up the place with some hard-hitting music, chief among them 'Bad Out Deh', done on the Baddest Ting rhythm.

Alozade recorded 'Bad Out Deh' with long time friends Chico and Kiprich with whom he had previously joined forces to create the monster hit song 'Nuh Pet Gal'.

'Bad Out Deh' is presently creating a stir throughout the world. It is a 'must play' at local and overseas dancehall events and has elevated the artiste once again into the 'big times'. "I feel real good about the success of the song. It has done a lot for me where my career is concerned," he said. "My fans love it and I feel good about that."

A music video for the song was released recently. It was directed by local music video mogul Asha and is presently getting heavy rotation on local TV and cable stations.

Alozade has always been a hit with the teens, as he explained, "I guess this appeal is a natural one because they have been seeing a lot of overseas artistes and just tell themselves that this is what they are looking for. When an artiste can command a high level of respect from teenagers, that is a plus to his or her career. An artiste has to keep reaching out for the larger market. The teens contribute to a large share of the market."

Alozade kept the 'hit train' rolling with a song titled 'Jamaica', done on the Kings Of Kings label where he expresses his love for his country, and 'More Woman' on the CJ label.

His repertoire of hit songs over the years has kept him in high demand at major events both locally and overseas. He has made his mark performing at several stage shows right across Jamaica including top events such as Sumfest, Sting and Champions In Action.

Alozade has also performed extensively in North America, the Caribbean and Europe, which he toured in

2004 performing in countries such as Italy, France, Hungary, Belgium, Norway and Switzerland

Following the success of the song 'Bad Out Deh', Alozade has been very busy performing on stage. He created a big stir performing at events such as Asylum Anniversary, Stone Love Anniversary, Camp Fire, Western Jamboree, Fire Links Anniversary and more recently Garrison Party held at Asylum Night Club.

New releases such as 'Feminine Gender' on Don Corleon's Sweat rhythm and 'I Feel The Pain' on the popular Gangsta Rock rhythm are also doing very well for the artiste. "For the year 2006 and beyond, I will be hitting my fans with some more 'wicked' tunes so just keep listening," Alozade said.

JMT - Vybz Kartel's Album Out

By: Jigga Matic

AlbumVybzKartel.jpgDeejay Vybz Kartel recently returned from a six-show run in two weekends in the Tristate area, as well as shows in the state of Texas, Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida. The deejay's sophomore album, JMT, has been released by Greensleeves Records.

The lead single for the album is "Emergency" and it was released before the album, while "Hello Moto" is released with the album on 12 inch vinyl. The album is classic Vybz Kartel with songs like "Stammer", High Altitude with Bounty Killer, and the original 'Gun Session - Buddabye'. Wayne Marshall features twice on the album on "Late Night in the Scheme" and "Need You Girl". It's a really good mix of songs," he told YardFlex.Com.

Dancehall fans may be disappointed to hear that the remixed version of the song with T-Pain's 'So Sprung' is not on the album. However, a number of the songs have some crossover appeal and he is looking to repeat the success of 2004's effort with a UK R&B singer, Zena on "Been Around the World" which resulted in his first major mainstream hit outside the local Jamaican dancehall arena. The single debuted at number 44 on the UK singles chart.

In the meantime on the local scene, Kartel recently shot a combination video with Bling Dawg featuring Dawg's bouncy "Oh Oh" and Kartel's caustic "Mr. Politician". He had high praises for young director Julia Braham.

"She brings a youthfulness to the game as a director. And it's good to have a female point of view on the set, she is a like the little Nordia Rose, an up and coming talent to watch out for," he told YardFlex.

In the meantime, Kartel will be doing a rash of upcoming gigs, two in April in the US Virgin Islands, a show in Orlando, Florida, a college in Rochester, New York, Kartel's annual 'King of Queens' dance, as well as local shows in Brown's Town, St. Ann, the Aquasol Beach Park in Montego Bay, and a show at the 'Common Sense' playfield in St. Andrew.

Digicel Exceeds Carnival and Bacchanal Expectations

carnivalDigicel.jpgMobile telecommunications giant Digicel will be exceeding the expectations of all Carnival revelers around the country with fun, excitement, frolic and entertainment, as it turns up the heat on all such events islandwide.

Digicel is the only telecommunications company sponsoring the staging of Bacchanal, Jamaica, Downtown and UWI/UTECH Carnivals.

"Our sponsorship of these four mega-events is a balancing act that we are really enjoying," says Wayne Miller, Marketing Communications Manager. He points out that this year marks Digicel's first foray into the world of Jamaica Carnival.

"We will be bringing the Digicel Flavour to the islandwide series of events which are being staged under the theme 'Carnival 2006 - Ocean Fix'. Digicel's involvement in Jamaica Carnival will ensure that rural communities get in on the high energy music and vibes which that Carnival generates," Mr. Miller states.

Starting in Negril Friday, March 10, at the Jungle Nightclub, Digicel's Carnival train hit the road with its Digi Girls, armed with their whistles, rags and Frisbees on the Digi Rig (the Digicel truck). The company will also be showcasing its Rising Stars on Carnival stops around the island in areas including Junction, St. Elizabeth on March 24, Colonel Cove in St. Thomas, on March 25, Folly Grounds on April 2 and May Pen on April 9.

Digicel will hit the tourist Meccas of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios on April 9 and April 16 respectively. Among the costumes that the Digicel Jamaica Carnival Crew will be showcasing on its islandwide tour are: Mermaids, pirates and wenches, sailors in white and trendy beachwear.

With regards to Bacchanal Carnival, Digicel has chosen as its theme this year, Ancient Eqypt.

Every Friday night at Mas Camp, the Digicel booth with its creative and lavish Treasures of Egypt decor, has been the buzz among revelers. The booth boasts a super-sized sphinx, tombs and Egyptian relics reminiscent of the wonders of Ancient Eqypt.

"The Digicel booth is the happening place to be on Friday nights, and there are lots of giveaways for patrons" stated Patria-Kaye Aarons, Digicel's Marketing Communications Executive, pointing out that her company has pulled out all the stops to recreate the look and feel of Ancient Eqypt and the 'treasures' of that civilization at Mas Camp. One highlight of the Digicel Bacchanal booth is the Tomb of Fortune Competition.

"Persons are given an opportunity to crack the code on the Tomb of Fortune. The prize for the competition starts at $5,000 and rolls over by $2,500 every week, if no winner is found," Ms Aarons explained.

Another popular feature in the Digicel tent is the Photo-station by way of the company's partnership with Nokia, where revelers have a chance to get their instant photos while sporting Egyptian costumes.

April 7 is the night at Mas Camp dedicated to Digicel and the tempo of excitement and music is set to soar on that night as Digicel showcases 'Treasures of Egypt'.

Downtown Carnival will be the rage over the next 3 weeks with Digicel's annual support. Not to be missed events include a Kids Fun Day at Mas Camp on March 25 and Carnival Road Parade on April 17.

Digicel teamed up with UWI ant UTECH to bring Jouvert on Saturday March 10. The fun, frolic and adventure will climb to daring heights for tertiary students and revelers in general on April 8 and 22 respectively for Joker's Roadblock and Joker's Jouvert, which the fastest growing telecommunications company in the Caribbean also sponsors.

"We are happy to be supporting all the Carnival activities which bring people together for music, dance and fun activities," Wayne Miller asserts. "These activities are generating increased foreign exchange for the island and increased revenue for many rural areas as well a capital city Kingston." Aarons adds, "Any part we can play in bringing the country together, we will. Party on!"

Ding Dong Goes Number One

DingDong.jpgArguably Jamaica's top dancer, Ding Dong, showed his versatility this week by scoring his first number one hit with his Bad Man Forward Bad Man Pull Up single on the VP imprint. The single is the top song this week on the CHOICE FM chart in London, England. The single is also #15 on the South Florida Top 20 Reggae Singles chart.

Ding Dong, whose real name is Kemar Ottey, has contributed his voice to a number of songs such as Wacky Dip with Voice Mail and Weddy Time 2, along with Bogle and Voise Mail.

His solo recording Chakka Chakka, also did well a few months ago.
Ding Dong believes that dancers are now doing their own tunes because they often had ideas, which were disregarded by artistes.

"More time wi a tell artiste fi put two likkle ting inna di song an dem do dem own ting, but a nuh sey wi waan turn deejay. Me nuh waan turn deejay, but a jus tru wi have certain idea. A me come up wid di idea for Wacky Dip an all Weddy Time; a me and Delly write da tune deh," Ding Dong said.

Congratulations Ding Dong. Bad Man Forward, Bad Man Pull Up

Ne-Yo Takes Triple Titles on The Billboard Charts

neyo.jpgRhythm and blues sensation Ne-Yo grabbed the pole position on three main Billboard charts this week. The 23 year-old singer who has written songs for top acts including Mary J Blige, Chris Brown and Mario (he wrote Mario's number one hit Let Me Love You), has seen his debut single So Sick rise from number nine to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ne-Yo's debut solo album In My Own Words sold over 301,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at number one on both the Billboard 200 and R&B Hip Hop album charts. a feat aided by digital sales of his hit So Sick, the No. 1 download with 120,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Jay-Z was a producer on the singer-songwriter's album, "In My Own Words," which sold 301,000 copies in its first week, and is pulling the strings behind the scenes on Ne-Yo's success. The single, "So Sick," a huge radio hit, was withheld from the digital market until the album hit stores, and the label invoked UMVD's rebate program for developing acts to bring the set's sale tag to as low as $7.98 at price-driven chains Target, Best Buy and Circuit City.

Still, despite the accolades, Ne-Yo still fell well short of 50 Cent's "The Massacre" bowed with 1.1 million, the only million-plus week by any album in 2005, which bowed in exactly one year ago this week.

Beenie Man/Capleton, Ninja Man Ripped up Spring Break 06 in Negril

By: Claude Mills
Photos By: Carlington Wilmot

SpringBreakYardFlex.jpg
At 10 minutes to six on Monday morning, Beenie Man hit the stage to a tremendous roar from the crowd, and announced that he would not be working alone. Minutes later, the whole venue just 'lift up' in an orgy of flag-waving, hand-waving, and fire-torches stabbing orange tongues of fire at the purplish dawn sky. Enter the Fireman.

He hit the stage dressed in a regal-looking red and gold outfit and launched into 'Top of Things', Beenie responded 'Come Again', when he did 'Slew Dem', Beenie replied with 'Troublemaker', when Capleton suggested 'Bad Mind', Beenie declared 'Nuh Like Me' and so on, and the crowd loved every second of it.

SpringBreakYardFlexB.jpgMunga also earned a big forward with his hit, 'Dem Bwoy De Nuh Bad Like I'. After Capleton did 'Consuming' and exited the stage, Beenie called on D'Angel, and they performed 'One Man' together, after which she did 'Downtown Girl' to big forwards, showing that her stocks in the Dancehall Game are sky high. Then, Beenie closed the show with 'Heart Attack' as the sun began to rise in an orange ball in the morning sky.

Earlier, Ninjaman gave arguably the performance of the night earning two encores with his engaging lyrics - most directed at other artistes.

The crowd loved the vintage Ninjaman performance, especially the song with the punchline, 'Bounty gal lef him fi a better man'. He also earned a major forward for 'Adams Haffi Gimme Back Mi Gun', which had a line that intimated that he had lent Sizzla 13 guns.

SpringBreakYardFlexC.jpgHowever, Sizzla, who performed afterwards, had a stinging riposte to Ninjaman to the effect that he was "bussing his gun" in the name of justice and against oppression, hence "me and you caan have no gun dealings".

Downsound recording artiste Fantan Mojah earned big forwards for almost all his songs such as 'Mama Hungry', and his pleas to free Jah Cure, but it was the phenomenal response to 'Hail the King' which rocked the venue like a small tremor. It showed that he really seems to connect with his audience.

Earlier, there had been great performances from Little Hero, Ghost, and there was an outstanding cameo by Singer J, the 'Energy Jesus' who took over Beetle Bailey's set. Turbulence was absolutely brilliant, reeling off his hits one by one. Kip Rich and Blacka also performed well. Ruffian was wildly entertaining with her slack songs we can't even write about here, and she seems to be growing increasingly confident with her stage craft and delivery.

Sexy Spring Breaker Kerri

By: Lucky Me
Photos By Warlington

KerryPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotA.jpg
Alright, I admit it. I like writing this feature because I get the chance to ogle the tight, firm bods of beautiful Jamaican women, so sue me. Ah de so mi ting de right about now.

This weekend, I hooked up with Kerri at Spring Break in Negril. To merely say that Kerri is beautiful is not enough, there are no words to express the line of her delicate cheekbones, her gorgeous face or the way her eyes seem to speak to your soul.

KerryPhotoByCarlingtonWilmot.jpgSometimes, alas, even a writer has to admit that words only diminish the truly wonderful things in this world, so enough chatting, experience Kerri for yourself.

Status: Single
Occupation: Singer
Zodiac Sign: Libra
Favourite Colour: Pink
Favourite Song: Mary J Blige's 'Can't Sleep Without You Babe'
Favourite Movie Genre: Suspense and romantic comedies
Qualities she likes in guys: a combination of honesty, maturity, and intelligence. "He must be able to hold a conversation, and it would help if he were attractive."
Favourite Hangout spots: a beach in Negril

Most Embarrassing Moment: at a show when I failed to hold a high note and my voice cracked, I was so embarrassed, I wished the earth could just open up and swallow me whole. I couldn't sleep for like days afterwards.

Pet Peeve: Guys who don't know how to give a compliment. I am really turned off by guys, some of whom are really cute, who just approach me by saying 'baby, yu fat' or some equally crass way, that is a big turn off for me, guys should learn how to give a proper compliment.

Spring Break with PaPa & Razzi

"Gone a Negril - we gone a Negril - PaPa & Razzi live from Negril"

Papa&Razzi1.jpg'
We gone ah Negril! Yea, it's Papa and Razzi coming to you live from the decadent town of Negril where the crazy Spring Breakers are gathered, and plotting to take over the town.

We arrived last night to attend the Spring Bling '06 pre-party on the Negril strip. Trust me, there were crazy girls on the strip that night, some heading to The Jungle, and we soon spotted other girls of the streetwalking variety dressed in some bootylicious fashions that fired up our overactive, testosterone-filled imaginations.

An encounter with a Pimp
We stopped to approach one of the girls to get a picture so that we could share the experience with y'all, but a man nearby approached us quickly, laughed disdainfully at our request and barked: "Cut!"
Not being "au fait" with the local customs of Negril, we said: "Huh?"
"Leave. No picture," he translated.
Alrighty then.

So we left, and headed to the venue nearby where Rebel T was rinsing out some wicked juggling tunes, but we could tell from the echoes that inside was empty, so we jammed outside a little, chatting with the locals. We approached 'Scotchy' from Sainty (St. Elizabeth) who was selling some 'corn tea', a peppery soup which he claims is made with peanuts, escallion, thyme, scotch bonnet pepper, and of course, corn. We drank two cups to 'buss the gas', a necessity for Razzi because of his embarrassing gas problem - a subject which we won't get into now.

A YardFlex For A LapDance
We hung out, checking out the scene, and there was a man doing some cool wheelie moves on a CBR bike, but we soon got bored, and decided to check out the adult club, Triple X in downtown Negril. After getting some directions from a taxi man, we found the nightclub.

We worked out a barter with the girls, and scored a few lap dances. It was the first ever Give-a-YardFlex-Get-a-Lap-Dance promotion, and it was awesome. We were very impressed at the double-jointed moves of girls like Racquel, Simone and Little Miss. Just ask Razzi. We drank "Guinness by the crate", hung out with the girls, and we were the last ones to leave the club at minutes to 4.

We got up this morning, had breakfast at Jenny's Restaurant in West End, and then had a swim at our pool at Negril Escape. We've made quite a few friends, but all we can say is that the Springbreakers here are some crazy m-fers, and that the locals here are quite friendly, especially now that they realized that we own our own newspaper. MURDER!
Later, we hit the street en route to Father Dozer's big stage show, 'Spring Bling 2006'. Mad ting! We're going to have great pictures and an awesome story of our continuing adventures this Spring Break. Stay tuned.

Beenie & D'Angel - Love Conquers All

By: Claude Mills
Photos By: Carlington Wilmot

D'Angel&BeenieManPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotA.jpgThat's the question on everyone's lips as rumours have spread like a wild brush fire on the Serengeti National Park of Africa that Beenie Man and D'Angel are officially engaged, and ready to go public about their relationship.

Since November last year, the two have been working together on music projects, and eventually started dating. There's no wedding ring yet, but D'Angel is sure waiting for it! When will the wedding bells be tolling for Beenie and D'Angel? Who knows?

Beenie Man confirmed that the relationship had evolved into something more serious this week. He told a VOICE newspaper writer that:
"Yes, it's a mafia engagement...ah mi wife, me and har ah go get married 'cause mi love her."

He was speaking during the shooting break of D'Angel's new video, 'Woman Power' that celebrates the recent victory of Portia Simpson Miller as the first female president of the PNP, and what the victory means to the 'gentler sex' in Jamaica. During the break, the two were openly flirting with each other, sharing jokes and tender moments away whenever D'Angel had the opportunity.

D'Angel&BeenieManPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotB.jpgWhat makes the engagement even more salacious is the fact that Beenie Man has been involved in a long-running, on-again, off-again feud with rival Bounty Killer, who happens to be D’Angel’s ex-boyfriend. The steamy relationship between superstar Beenie Man and budding celebrity D'Angel, especially in light of their radio hit, 'One Man', has become the subject of much speculation by members of the entertainment fraternity and the local media.

But despite the brouhaha, Beenie is determined to fully explore his relationship with D'Angel.

D'Angel&BeenieManPhotoByCarlingtonWilmot.jpg"I called her up and began working with her last year, and just by working with her, and getting to know the kind of wonderful person she is, kind, caring, loving...I was drawn to her. And at the time, me neva have no woman, she neva have no man, so we just come together and it happened," he said.

How long have you two been together?
"Mi nah go get into that with you (laughing), all mi can say is that mi neva did a go bear the blame and no play the game...(chuckling)...me a footballer, mi kick ball inna goal, yea?" he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
"But is a girl who mi love, and mi want the best for her," he said.

Despite Beenie's public admission, D'Angel is keeping mum about her relationship.

"I want my relationship to stay private and out of the media, he and I are already in the media because we are performers, and I don't really want the focus to be on the relationship alone, and away from my music. I love Beenie and I know he loves me, but that is between us, and as two stars, we have to keep that relationship private and separate and special," she said.

R&B Star Jimmy Cozier Explores Jamaican Roots

By: Claude Mills
Photos By: Carlington Wilmot

JimmyCozyPhotoByCarlingtonWilmot.jpgR&B singer Jimmy Cozier will soon complete his reggae album for Harmony House Records in Jamaica. The album, which has not yet been titled, could be released this Summer.

"I am just doing the last couple of tracks now, it's going to be 14 tracks of classic reggae," he said.

Jimmy Cozier's mother, Dawn, is Jamaican-born, while his dad is an accomplished jazz musician so he grew up in a home where diverse music cultures converged and he was exposed to a pantheon of jazz greats, as well as music from reggae icons such as Bob Marley and Beres Hammond. So it was almost inevitable that he would explore the Jamaican side of his heritage.

"I come here a lot, just for the peace of mind, and to work out on my album with Beres," he said.

Cozier's mother hails from Port Royal, just outside the capital city of Kingston. During the interview at the offices of entertainment promotions company, Solid Agency in Kingston, Cozier sometimes put on a pretty good Jamaican accent, and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about the lingua of the island.

One of the first singles on the reggae album will be 'Slow Down' which is an ambitious horn-happy reggae track centred around finding love.

In the meantime, he is also working on his R & B album, and he let YardFlex hear a single called 'You Got Them Goods', a juicy cut that will have the ladies swooning in the North American clubs. He has also been working with producers such as Swizz Beats, Sha Money and Salaam Remy.

"I am also doing some work with this hot new kid called Neo, who is signed to Jay Z, and he wrote two songs for my album," he said.
Jimmy is also challenging himself by donning a producer hat as head of Cozier Entertainment which signed singer Sheree Dennis recently. According to Cozier, her upcoming single, 'I Love You' features Jimmy Jones and a verse from the late Biggie Smalls".

The video for this single will be shot on March 14th and will premiere on BET 106 and Park soon afterwards.

"At this stage, the pull of being an artiste is still strong, I like doing the reggae and R & B projects, with reggae, you can say things, you have more artistic freedom than what you would have with R & B because those things would not be commercially successful. Reggae gives you more range to express yourself," he said.

Asked if he is trying to create a unique Reggae-R& B hybrid, he laughed and said: "The gap will be bridged, maybe not by Jimmy Cozier, but if I can play a role in helping to define the R& B and reggae sound, by bringing light to authentic reggae, that's what I am gonna do."

JimmyCozyPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotA.jpgCozier's voice was first heard on Junior M.A.F.I.A's 'Backstabber' and he has toured with Boyz II Men as well as Gladys Knight.
Cozier first vaulted into the spotlight with the single, 'She's All I Got' featuring Fabulous. He was first discovered when his managers at NY based Upgrade Entertainment slipped a tape of Jimmy Cozier's work to Wyclef Jean. Wyclef saw the talent in the Flatbush, Brooklyn-born Cozier and arranged a meeting with Clive Davis, a legend in the music music business, who was also in the midst of starting a new label - J Records. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Bescenta - A Rare Combination of Intensity

BescentaPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotYardFlexB.jpgAmbition never ends with the first hit song. The pursuit of excellence is the driving force behind reggae artiste Bescenta, who is a rare combination of intensity, quiet confidence and humility.

Born Bryden Bescenta Craig Wilkins on April 12, 1975, he grew up in the Salisbury Plain area, close to Stony Hill in St. Andrew. He attended Almond Hill All Age, then Oberlin High, before graduating from St. Andrew Technical High School (S.T.A.T.H.S) in Kingston. Immediately after high school, he learned the electrician trade, and to support himself, even did odd jobs like painting houses.

BescentaPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotYardFlexA.jpg"I can even wire a house, and install lights if it come to the test. I am a pretty good electrician," he said. "However, it has always been about the music, while I was in high school, I was hunting for the truth in music, but when I got out in the real world, I knew I had to make a living, so I didn't watch the type of work I was doing, as long as when weekend come, mi ting put together," he said.

However, eventually, the influence of music began to exert itself in his life, and he began to record his first songs with Peter 'Sweetness' Nembhard on Auntie Boom Records. He joined up with a group called Cornerstone and in 2001, Bescenta met with producer 'Computer' Paul Henton, and they formed a successful partnership, recording 'World Is in Trouble'.

Now, the 'World Is in Trouble' is a song carved in reggae oak: solid. With Bescenta's rich vocals and lyrical stylings, the song became an anthem for residents of the island's tough inner city areas, and its end-of-days theme became a stirring call for action and change to arrest the killings and violence that lead to over 1,600 deaths last year.

The song enjoyed a lot of airplay during the Summer of 2004 during the annual Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Popular Song contest, and eventually finished second overall.
BescentaPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotYardFlex.jpg
"It was not about winning, the money or the forward, it was the message of love and non-violence that I was trying to convey to the people, and I really wanted them to hear me, so I went with a current, an energy, and it worked," he said.

However, he was not pleased with the pace of his career, and when he was approached by Ray 'X-ray' Stephens from Vertex Records, he parted ways with Computer Paul in late 2000.

"I appreciate what Computer Paul did for me, I entered his establishment with my own current, and then I added that to his current, and we made some great music together. He had to do what he had to do, and I had to do what I had to do, focus on my career," he said.

Bescenta's star has begun to shine brilliantly with his new focused and efficient management structure led by his manager, X-ray and engineer, Ricky Genius.

It's not often that you find a girl who is as wholesome as she is sexy, but when that happens in one package, it's sheer magic. That happened when YardFlex caught up with one of our favourite YARDGIRLS, Tina.

"It is not my ambition to become a model, what I want to do is establish my own business," the 22 year-old nail technician told YardFlex.

Yardgirl-photoByCarlingtonWilmotA.jpgShe originally hails from the town of Mandeville, and describes herself as 'fun-loving, outgoing, yet responsible'.
She plans to do a lot of traveling to see as much as she can of the world, but has no immediate plans to go to university to pursue a tertiary education.

"I am still trying to figure out what I want to do."

She is quite proud of her large, beautiful eyes, arguably her best trait. They are eyes that a man can fall into and lose himself if he is not careful. Says Tina of her 'captivating eyes'.
"I get them from my father still, people like to gaze into them a lot," she said, laughing.

Despite her killer smile and those gorgeous eyes, she is (surprise surprise) single.

"I guess I haven't met the right guy, one who is honest and who is outgoing, but when I do, who knows? Maybe I'll settle down and have kids"

D'Angel Shoots Video for 'Give The Woman a Chance'

By: Jigga Mattic
Photos By Warlington

D'Angel-PhotoByCarlingtonWilmotYardFlex.jpgDressed to the nines in a white business suit and her hair a stunning red, D'Angel looked like the portrait of a take-no-prisoners career woman on the set of her new video, 'Give the Woman a Chance' on Wednesday afternoon. The video was shot by critically acclaimed director Nordia Rose at Victoria House, Lindsay Crescent.

"I think that this song is an important one because it sends a clear message to women that they can succeed at the highest level of politics and business, if they just stick to their guns," D'Angel said.

D'Angel-PhotoByCarlingtonWilmotYardFlexB.jpgThe set was painted in a dazzling white. The Jamaican flag, and an orangish-Jamaican coat of arms appeared in the background while D’Angel, reading from her prepared speech, addressed a crowd of women. The single, which was recorded in the euphoria surrounding Portia Simpson Miller's victory in the PNP Presidential elections, appears on the Free Willy label. Former Rising Star sensation Face and dancer Keiva were also present at the video shoot.

Beenie Man clowned around at the video shoot as well. At one point, while D'Angel was off camera, he walked up to the lectern, cleared his throat and began to speak.

"From Portia win, no woman no waan cook fi dem man again!" he declared.
Laughter greeted this remark.
"No gal no waan wash clothes again!" Boos this time.
"Me? Me? Me?" he said, indignant now.
"Tek him offa the stage," Nordia shouted out. A man stepped forward, and tried to drag him off the stage, but he refused to go, holding onto the lectern.

"Is we run tings! Yu hear that! We! Man run things." More boos. Whistles of derision.
D'Angel-PhotoByCarlingtonWilmotYardFlexA.jpg
"No? Den is who run tings?"
"Woman run tings!" the females shouted in unison.
Finally, he was dragged off the set. The ladies then burst into applause.

Grinning sheepishly, Beenie Man, the ardent troublemaker, then declared: "That was a good shot."
YardFlex thinks so too. The video will be edited soon, and will premiere on Jamaican television in a few weeks.

Behind The Scenes - Beenie Becomes God Father - Mafia House

MafiaHousePhotoByCarlingtonWilmotZG1.jpgWhen Beenie Man informed YardFlex of the plans he had for Mafia House Productions, Jigga Mattic and Warlington decided that we had to find a 'gangster car'. After a couple of phone calls, we located 48 year-old Merrick Reid, a building contractor who collects classic cars as a hobby.

Mr. Reid had a 1936 Ford V8 three-window couple that was similar in make to ones the gangsters used to call 'The Hardtop Roadster' which were often used to go on 'moonshine runs' (transporting bootleg whisky) during the Prohibition Era in the United States. During Prohibition Era ( 1917-1933) the manufacture, sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors was prohibited. Underground saloons popped up, and inevitably, most of the liquor traffic fell into the hands of gangsters.

Reid had bought the car from Clarkson Nunes in 1999 for an undisclosed sum after it had been "abandoned" in his garage for years.

"He wanted someone who would preserve the car in its original state, someone offered him US$100,000 for it but he turned them down, it's probably worth that to, it was one of the first cars in that model series to come off the production line...a very rare car in the United States," he said.

DonMafiaPhotoByCarlingtonWilmotA1.jpgAccording to Mr. Reid, the engine, an 85 horsepower flathead V8, was the same one used in Sherman tanks during World War II.

"The whole vehicle is all original, and I've spent thousands of dollars renovating it, chrome frames for the windshield, new authentic shocks which I had to use a Ford manual to source the parts for, plus a brand new distributor," he gushed. "The car should be able to drive but I am sorting out the wiring of it right now. The only difference is that the car has been sprayed a metallic blue, the original colour was blue, but not metallic."

The car uses regular gas but a lead additive is needed or "else the gas might mash up the engine", Mr. Reid said..

MafiaHousePhotoByCarlingtonWilmotZZB1.jpgJust getting the car to a new location proved an adventure, Jigga Mattic got a wrecker and we relocated the car from Monterrey Drive to Millsborough in upper St. Andrew. On the way, the spare tyre fell off the car, and bounced in the road, almost causing Jigga Mattic who was driving beh--, no, who was securing the perimeter, to have an accident. When we got the car safely inside, and had the spare tyre refitted, we pushed the car to exactly where ace photographer Warlington needed it. Then it was lights, camera, action! Angel came out in a black slithery dress that is the stuff of every young man's fantasies, and with her caramel skin glistening in the growing dark and a rose between her teeth, she was the essence of gangster chic. DAMN!

There was a small spat between Don Mafia and Beenie Man but that was soon resolved. Later, they came out in some awesome gangster suits that would have made Alphonse "Scarface Al" Capone himself green with envy. Angel was stunning and when she clambered up on top of the Ford roadster in a series of come-hither, sexy poses, it was sheer auto erotica! Rrrrhhh!

Belize shows Wayne Wonder Love and Affection

WayneWonder.jpgBased on the reception he received in Belize, you would think that he was an old friend, rather than on his first visit to Belize recently.

Wayne Wonder and fellow veteran reggae artiste Beenie Man performed to a packed house at the Belize City Centre in Belize City last Saturday. Following brief, but vibes building appearances by Gringo re-christened Don Mafia and large on talent Kirk Davis, Ruff Kutt struck up the introduction that heralded the arrival of Wayne Wonder.

Dressed in a white jacket and blue jeans, Wayne stepped on stage with searing vocals. Moving effortlessly from his classic hits such as Saddest Day and Movie Star, to favourites No Letting Go, Bounce Along and Hold Me Now, to fresh cuts I Still Believe and Love and Affection, Wayne grabbed up the crowd and never let them go.

Flanked by his provocatively dressed dancers and witty DJ Baby Face turned Lion King, Wayne’s forty minute set left the crowd clamouring for more. The crooner obliged by changing into his Surprise persona and dropped some hard core deejay lyrics on the appreciative audience.

Prior to the concert, Beenie Man and Wayne Wonder stopped by a youth rally dubbed, "Shoot Hoops Not Guns". Both artistes encouraged young people to stay in school and find alternate avenues to crime and violence.

Though his visit was short, Wayne Wonder left an indelible mark on the hearts of the people of Belize and hopes to return soon.

Dancehall Artiste Sizzla Goes to Montreal

Zizzla-PhotoByCarlingtonWilmot-yardflex.jpgSizzla Kalonji featuring the Judgment Yard Crew, will be performing live at Le Medley (1170 St-Denis) in Montreal on Saturday, March 18th, 2006.

After his previous successfull sold-out show in Montreal and Toronto in August 2004, Sizzla is now going on a Canada-wide "Da Real LIVE Thing Tour"; in such cities as Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Cambridge, and Toronto, respectively.

Opening acts for the Montreal show (March 18), include Django, Sampaloo, Toronto's Sample King, and more. Hosts for the night include Prymtym and Don Ignorance. Music will be provided by Montreal's own Little Thunder, Assassins, and Toronto's King Klepto.

Sizzla Kalonji hails from August Town, Kingston in Jamaica. After his discovery in the 1990's, he was quickly catapulted to the forefront of Reggae music's roots movement. As one of reggae music's most prolific artists, Sizzla has the reputation of mastering the art of fusing socially charged lyrics and contemporary dancehall beats. As a member of the militant Bobo Ashanti tribe, Sizzla draws on his religious and social beliefs to condemn oppression and injustice. Among his listeners he has a strong appeal because he is able to give voice to the struggles of Jamaican youth.

As prolific as he is, in many circles Sizzla is best known for the classic album and title track, "Praise Ye Jah" (1997). Hip-Hop and Pop audiences were introduced to Sizzla when Hip-Hop star Ja-Rule sampled "Solid As A Rock" (2002) in 2003 for his song "The Crown".

Sizzla has recently signed with the Damon Dash Music Group (DDMG). Sizzla has over 30 full-length albums released for labels like VP Records, Greensleeves, and Jet Star - countless 7-inch singles released in his native Jamaica - including the crossover smash "Just One Of Those Days (Dry Cry)". And now, his forthcoming DDMG release, set for an early-2006 release, will mark Sizzla's major-label debut.

Jah Cure's New Video With Fantan Mojah

By: Claude Mills

JahCure-FantanMojah.jpgJah Cure, the infamous reggae singer who has been incarcerated since 1999, is in the middle of shooting a combination video with Fantan Mojah for his latest single, 'Nah Build Great Men' for Downsound Records.

YardFlex got the inside scoop on the video shoot today, and we will be posting pictures and stories from behind-the-scenes of the video shoot tomorrow.

"It's a great song, and it talks how society kills great men, and does not build them, it mentions great black leaders such as Marcus Gravey, Martin Luther King who was assassinated and it has a wonderful social vibe. The director of the video is Mr. B, the guy who did 'Hail the King' video. The 'Jah Cure' scenes have already been shot and they look good, it's going to be a wicked video," Joe Bogdanovich, the head of Downsound Records, told YardFlex today.

The video shoot continues today. Before the IRIE ban of Jah Cure's songs late last year, the song has been getting airplay, and is reportedly very popular in Europe. Jah Cure was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on April 26, 1999, for two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, and illegal possession of firearm, all arising from the same incident. He received this sentence at age 19.
