Jamaica, New Orleans team up for international festival

The 'Big Easy' has teamed up with the 'Rock' to bring a new kind of festival to the world.
Jamaica and the devastated city of New Orleans will stage the first annual Jamaica/New Orleans Music and Food Festival on November 4 to 5 in Montego Bay, St. James. Plans for the festival were well advanced before the monster hurricane decimated the city last month, and part proceeds will be given to the American New Orleans fund to develop music and culture.
Dubbed the 'Rhythm and Spice Fest', it is the city's first international event since its highly publicized crisis and will be a joint effort with Jamaica to lay the foundations for further trade development and co-operation.
Horace Peterkin, President of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association (JHTA) and Co-Executive Producer of the festival, made the announcement at a press conference at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Montego Bay on Wednesday, September 28th.
"The festival is a public/private sector initiative that will feature the finest music, food and hospitality," Mr. Peterkin said. "Festivals are a very good niche market we are the ideal location, being close to North America and having the musicians and facilities."
Ernest Collins, Director of Arts and Entertainment in the Office of the Mayor of New Orleans declared that the "event is much more than a festival...there is a lot of growth potential and we see the festival in the context of economic development."
Planning for the festival was far advanced when disaster struck earlier this month with Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Collins said that it is now imperative that these plans materialize, so that both parties can chart a course for future development.
"To do this festival and to do it with a new mission and an urgency and a bigger cause, is a wonderful opportunity. We look forward to doing this and we are thankful for the support from the Jamaican Government," Mr. Collins said.
The event, which is endorsed by New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin, will be an exciting two-day carnival of music, food and fashion featuring chefs, musicians and fashion models from Jamaica and New Orleans. Listed venues include Margaritaville, the Montego Bay Cruise Shipping Pier and The Doctors Cave Beach.
Proceeds of the festival will also go to the AIDS Hospice in Montego Bay.
Plans for the twinning of Montego Bay and New Orleans are also underway with the ceremony set for November.

HardRock & African Love Join Forces
United States-based African Love Music Group Inc., one of the most celebrated reggae dancehall recording labels will be re-launching its label in a major campaign that unfolds over two days. One event will be held at the West Indian Social Club Hartford Connecticut on November 11, and the other is slated to be held at Wild Palm in Bronx, New York on Saturday, November 12
The label, which is largely responsible for the crossover of dancehall in the North American market, and the development of several Jamaican talents will be re-launching with the assistance of HardRock Entertainment Group Limited, one of Jamaica's leading entertainment marketing companies.
"After a decade of solid achievements and involvement in the reggae dancehall music industry, African Love Records has decided to rekindle its presence globally," Claude Evans, chief executive officer of African Love Records, said when contacted at his New York office.
African Love Records is the home of Jamaican superstar Shinehead, and the producer of several albums for some of reggae music's greatest artistes such as Dennis Brown, Judy Mowatt, Shinehead, Bob Marley and of recent Lady Saw and Nada, a Trinidadian-Indian Reggae artiste
Mr. Evans sees this new launch as important as he has a lot of current material and ideas which he believes will benefit the industry positively. A tour is currently being organized to kick off in November in Connecticut and New York as well as other mid-Western States featuring reggae dancehall's greatest singers such as Freddy McGregor, Richie Stevens, Frankie Paul, Shinehead and others to be confirmed.
According to Evans, there is also a dancehall tour slated for December 2005 which is slated to feature Turbulence alongside other current dancehall greats. Mr. Evans said that the partnership with HardRock Entertainment Group on the local and international market, should be fruitful.
"The group has already secured prime time spots for a year on major radio and television station across America and Canada and we are eagerly anticipating the opening of a permanent base in Jamaica to assist with artiste development, recordings, music video production, album compilation, and distribution," Mr. Evans said.
To this end, African Love Records has bought real estate in the 'Big Apple', New York City, and started three music outlets and a pressing plant.
When contacted, Ian Coke of HardRock Entertainment said that the partnership was timely and consistent with his company's goal and looked forward "for positive results and success in the relationship". He also said that the partnership should be "not only rewarding but it will provide added experience because of African Love's track record, success and expertise in marketing reggae internationally".

Behind the scenes of Vybz Kartel's video shoot
By: Jigga
YardFlex Reporter

Deejay Vybz Kartel shot several scenes from the combination music video for the singles, 'So Much To Say' and the popular 'Stammer' song on Monday. The video is being directed by the doyenne of music videos in Jamaica, Nordia Rose.
YARDFLEX.COM was on location, chilling on the ends in Kirk Avenue in Havendale, St. Andrew.
Kartel, Bling Dawg and Wayne Marshall were shooting a scene from the 'Stammer' song on Preston's new rhythm in front of a zinc fence, where Kartel was giving it to the camera in his tommy-gun stammering delivery that is blowing up all over the nation's airwaves.
She say me ah de don-ah-na-na-nah
Number one-ah-na-na-nah
She get stammer-ah-na-na-nah
Pon the John-ah-na-na-nah
As the scene was being shot, an armada of purple thunderclouds were dragging their bellies across the afternoon sky, devouring the last of the blue, and then the heavens opened. Kartel, Bling Dawg and Wayne Marshall dashed for cover, along with about 15 other men including Singer Blinger and Escobar.
YARDFLEX.COM did an interview with Nordia Rose during the break in the shooting.

"It's been going well. We started shooting this video last week Friday when we did a scene at the Hellshire beach with two girls coming out of the water seductively, and one of him driving a Benz jeep, that was for the 'Stammer' song. Today, we are shooting another part of the 'Stammer' song with Wayne and Bling."
Other scenes such as a hustling scene where Kartel is seen gambling and throwing dice, learning how to hustle from his friend are related to the 'So Much To Say' single featuring Wayne Marshall. The single, which samples a monster Phil Collins hit, revolves around the life and loss of a close childhood friend of the deejay who gets gunned down, forcing Kartel to later exact revenge on the man who did the deed.
"When we shot that part last week, we had a police car, and the friend's body on the ground, people who passed by thought it was a real person on the ground, and were asking us why we were laughing when someone was dead," Rose said.
The video will be edited and released soon. That is it from Yardflex, keeping you up to the time.

Mad Sensi from Spain to Jamaica
By Jigga
YARDFLEX REPORTER

Bratt and Kuko, two Spanish musicians/producers, are big time lovers of reggae music, and have come to Jamaica to hone their reggae skills to return to spread the art form in their native country, Spain.
Bratt and Kuko are devoted to reggae music. When Kuko was 16 years-old, he went to an African bar in Madrid, Spain to see an afro-reggae band play, and after that night, he felt helplessly, hopelessly in love with reggae music. And that affair has lasted 16 years.
But what about Flamengo music?
"Mi no like that! Fire pon dat! That is prehistoric music, bomboclaat!"
Talk about your die-hard reggae lover!
He and his friend Bratt have been to Jamaica seven times in the last decade, in search of that authentic Jamaican reggae feel.
"I am here to feel the vibes, and learn from everyone about reggae music, and feel the energy. If you want authentic Flamengo, you go to Spain, if you want authentic reggae, you have to come to Jamaica," Bratt said.
"Right now, reggae is growing in Spain, it may be bigger in Germany, and other European countries, but my mission right now is to spread reggae to every corner of Spain."
Four years ago, they got their band together called Canaman, and did an album called ‘Fronteras (Borders)’ that sold moderately well in Spain.

"We came to Jamaica to Anchor Recording studio and recorded all the musicians for the song, it was a big project, we had Nando producing plus combinations with Capleton, Marcia Griffiths, and Louis Culture, we really learned a lot," Kuko said.
Now, this time, they have flipped the script a little, and now have played their own instruments on their latest project, the 'Mad Sensi'.
"We have just brought it here now to have it mixed, we are doing combinations with Jr. Kelly, Frisco Kid, Lutan Fyah, Luciano, Mikey General and Bongo Herman The big producer, Fattaman is mixing the riddim to give us that real reggae feel," Kuko said.
Kuko is an accomplished reggae musician, and once shared a stage with Anthony B, Coco Tea and Freddie McGregor in a show in Jamaica a few years ago.
"Our backing band, Canaman is wicked wicked, and we perform all over Spain, and we use the money we earn and put it back into the music, trying to improve our sound, we record a lot of music in Spain," Kuko said.
The first volume of the 'Mad Sensi' project will be released in January 2006.

BUJU BANTON IN TROUBLE AGAIN...ASSAULT

Written By:
Jigga
Dancehall heavyweight Buju Banton has found himself on the wrong side of the law again, just a few months after his travel ban had been lifted by the United States embassy.
But this time, the charges are even more serious, as he may be facing possible jail time on an assault charge. Banton was on Wednesday offered bail in the sum of $50,000 after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault in the night court section of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
The police alleged that Banton might be among a group of men who barged into a house on Carlisle Avenue in Kingston on June 24 last year and beat six men who they accused of being homosexuals.
On Wednesday, the rastafarian entertainer was ordered to report to the Constant Spring Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:00 pm as a condition of his bail.
The case against Buju Banton will come before the court on September 30.
This incendiary aspects of the case could well signal the death knell of Buju Banton's career, and could put his upcoming tour dates in Europe and the United States in jeopardy. More so, this assault against an alleged homosexual could well trigger a major attack on Buju's character and reputation by overzealous gay rights activists because he has traditionally been one of their favorite targets.
Buju Banton, whose name is Mark Myrie rose to prominence almost 15 years ago with hardcore dancehall lyrics. One of his early hit singles, Boom Bye Bye, drew great criticism from gay rights groups, which claimed the song incited the murder of gay persons. Buju Banton is one of eight dancehall artistes who have come under pressure from gay rights lobby groups in Europe and the United States for their gay-bashing lyrics. In fact, several of these artistes have had a number of their stage shows cancelled as a result of the pressure.
Buju Banton was banned from traveling to the United States for one year after he was found guilty of possession of and cultivation of marijuana in the local courts and ordered to pay a fine of $9,000 or serve 60 days in prison in April last year.
In March this year the travel ban was lifted by the United States Embassy.

Kimberly hot and spicy

Hi, my name is Kimberly and I am from the warm and sunny parish of Kingston, (Jamaica). I am a very intellectual and down to earth girl who likes to socialize with persons, especially with persons who I am not familiar with.

I have never thought of being a model, but I pretty much would love to do photographic modeling. I just love to see my self in photos, (a girl thing). I am also a lover of appearing music videos and commercials.

I don't think that I would want to do modeling in Jamaica because no one is willing to pay the price for what they want you to do. I know a lot girls who have been modeling for years and is yet they cannot show what they have gain from being a model.

I am presently attending a school of continuing education where I am doing back over a couple of CXCs. After that I will be pressing to enrolled in either University of the West Indies or UTECH.
Even though things are expensive in Jamaica, I believe it's one of the best place to live from once you have a solid education and a good job, is just the perfect ingredient of making living in Jamaica feels like living in paradise.

In my spare, I like to go clubbing with my friends, hanging out on the beach eating fish and festival and most of all going to the movies.
There is no way I could finish write this letter without expressing my love for our culture that the world craved for and our energetic dancehall music and the easy skanking reggae music.

The incredible success led to a major-label bidding war at the beginning of 1996, and by March, Brown had signed with the Def Jam label as another in the ranks of young and hard female rappers, releasing her first smash hit, now classic album, "ILL NANA".
Foxy's success as an emcee and solo artist led to her joining The Firm, a group consisting of rappers Jay-z, Cormega, and led by Nas. The Firm posse released their first album, "The Firm: The Album" in '97, on Dr. Dre's Aftermath record label, which included hit singles "Sunshine" and "I'll Be". Following up with "CHINA DOLL" in 1999, selling more than 1.5 million copies, the album spawned the Blackstreet and Foxy Brown smash duet, "Get Me Home", included Method Man, Kid Capri, and the production assistance of Mobb Deep. No disappointment to Foxy Brown fans, the freestyler continued to rap about exactly what she wants from men, and continued to emphasize her love for high-fashion on the provocative "Broken Silence" in 2001.
In short years, Ms. Brown has moved from an aspiring teenager to an established rap star in the music community. Her solo work is impressive, but her rolodex of contacts in the industry that would go to great lengths to work with her speaks volumes about her accomplishments, and her potential. Foxy Brown will drop her much anticipated album called Black roses, sometime this fall. The first single called "Come fly with me" featuring Sizzla, has been recently released and is burning up the clubs and radios.
Don't miss THE ORIGINAL ILL NANA live in concert for the first time ever in Montreal on Friday, September 30th at Club Dome performing all her big hits, as well as goodies off the new album. Music provided by Don Smooth of k103.7radio, special guest performances by Montreal's rising star BAD NEWS BROWN, as well as G-Don & KooKS, and FRENCHI Blanco (FP Crew).

Fire Pashon mash up Japan
![Pashon_nice_2719[1].jpg](http://www.yardflex.com/archives/Pashon_nice_2719%5B1%5D.jpg)
Female deejay Fire Pashon who recently got back from a two week tour of Japan with her father, famed singer Sugar Minot is now back in the island getting ready to shoot a video for a new joint called 'Flames'.
The bouncy new single was produced by industry insider 'Kingy' from Shaggy's BigYaad Studio.
During the tour, Fire Pashon and her dad make several stops in venues in international cities such as Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka etc. Sugar Minott had been one of the first Jamaican artistes to break into the Japanese market back in the days, however, this was Fire Pashon's first time ever performing on Japanese soil as an opening act for her father.
"The vibes was really great, they love Fire Pashon, the Japanese men wanted to drag me off the stage. Big up to the Japanese them I got nothing but love for yuh all,"she said.
Of the experience, she had this to say: "My daddy Sugar Minot was his usual way, chilling with the audience having them singing his songs word for word. Yow daddy mash up the place, there is nothing like watching my daddy performing. It's only a pity that most Jamaican people do not know the value of foundation entertainers such as my daddy."

Nashaun Sexy and Gorgeous

Some like it hot, some like it cold, but Nashaun likes it pretty much to stay at home. This 20-year-old beauty hails from the parish of Trelawny where she spent most of her life. She then decided to venture to the capital of Jamaica (Kingston) to pursue a career in the modeling industry.

When she finally gets to Kingston, she got home sick in a matter of couple days. Missing the cool breeze from the many trees situated around her house and the scent of the green lush flowers. According to Nashaun, she just could not handle the heat and humidity that the capital has to offer.

But, just has she decided to go back home to her lovely parish, she met a guy by the name of John Giscombe who asked her if she would be interesting in modeling. Right away she answers, "Yes, I would really like to get involved with an agency."
From that day she immediately have a different view of Kingston. Now it was all about walking the catwalk, fashion photo shoot, advertisement and video shoots.

Even though she was so caught up into modeling, she also realize that it was necessary to have a solid education, so she got enrolled with Fast Track Career Institute, where she is doing computer studies. After that, she plans on pursuing a degree in medicine at the University of the West Indies.

Roach, from first class to coach

Most people know Patrick 'Roach' Samuels as being a close, personal friend of deejay Vybz Kartel, and they often see him lurking in the shadows in music videos, backstage at shows, or at the studios.
He grew up in the area of Kingston known as 'South', a rough-and-tumble neighbourhood known for its bloody gun-violence in the southern part of Kingston. He attended Calabar High school before going on to Vauxhall Comprehensive High. After graduating, he got a job at the Jamaica Cement Company in the engineering department, working there for 10 years and earning the nickname, 'Mama Boy'.
"I loved working at the Cement Company, I worked as an assistant to the engineers, I got crazy love there, dem check fi me, and while I was there, mi meet Bounty Killer; Killer was the first man mek me hold $100,000 one time when him give me 4 dub plate fi a sound name Black Culture from Miami inna 1996," he said, smiling.
It was while hanging around Bounty Killer that he first met the young, ultra-talented Kartel.
You know dat is Bounty responsible for Kartel, and dem time de, Kartel used to give him crazy song, and people seh dat me and him resemble, and from dem time de, mi admire him style of deejaying, the way him string him words together. Mi recognize him talent, and mi invest $20,000 in him far in advance fi 4 tune long before him name get out big a Jamaica," he said.
Knowing all the deejays in the business and hanging around them, it was only a matter of time before he made the natural progression to being a producer.
"Mi know all the big name dem, and mi know the business but mi neva mek the step until one day, last year October, mi de de rounda Kartel and mi seh 'blow wow, deejay, you know mi need two dub plate', and him seh 'go Blacks (the producer), tell him dat yu need a riddim, at the speed of 120 and come back wid it'," he said.
However, when 'Roach' returned with a rhythm to Kartel, he said "Kartel fling it outta the CD player outta him car, him said mi need a badda one, ah eediat riddim dat". At this point, he pauses and laughs, and takes a pull from his burning cigarette.
"Bwoy, him no easy y'know," he said.
After that, as fate would have it, he stumbled upon the source of inspiration for his virgin project.
"I was over Kartel another day, and he was writing a song from a producer called Ellis on The Symphony riddim, but the CD contain two riddim, and mi hear a phrase, the siren, inna the riddim that mi like. So mi call Lauren Hill engineer, and tell him, amd mi get the file, go rounda Blacks, him do a magic job, him give me what mi want, and the riddim ready fi the road," he said.
The first songs he produced were 'Call Di Ambulance' by Kartel, and songs by Bling Dawg, Ward 21 and then a bouncy single by Sean Paul.
"I saw Jason (Sean Paul's brother) one day, and mi tell him dat mi have a riddim, mi give it to him, and the next day Sean call me and said that him do the first verse already, and the next day, him do the next verse and that was it. I took the next couple of months and finish the production and it ah run the road fi the last few months," he said.
The 'Siren' rhythm, which samples Quincy Jones' 'Ironside', contains the monster radio hit, 'Emergency', which recently hit #5 on the UK Dancehall charts, and is getting regular rotation on HOT 97 in New York. The distribution of the rhythm is handled by 'In the Streetz' and appears on the Time Travel label.
"Mi have a new riddim ah come out soon, it ah run the place, look out fi it," he said

Grace Ann a cut above the rest

Oh Grace-Ann, Oh Grace-Ann, you might be that special girl that every man dreamt of. Your magnificent figure and your amazingly cute face is enough to let any man go crazy for you.
The citizens of her community in Portmore easily remember Grace-Ann as 'heavy sex'. Whenever she's passing a group of guys, you can always listen out for them shouting 'heavy sex' trying to get at least a second of Grace-Ann's attention.

Grace-Ann had made a lot cameo appearance in music videos for well known artistes and advertisements. She was also a contestant in the Mss Kingston & St. Andrew Festival Queen 2004, in which she places as the second runner-up. Since then, she got introduced to MPV Model Management by one of her girlfriends. So far, she has walked the catwalk for MPV and has done several billboards photo shoot.

In her spare time she likes to exercise, playing pool with her girlfriends, hanging out on the North Coast and most of all acting.
Grace-Ann advice to young girls who would love to add modeling as a part of the career is, "Modeling can be tricky, especially if you don't really know much about the company who you are planning on modeling for. Always do vast amount of background checks on these agencies before you get tangled with them into any contractual agreement. If you are with an agency and you do not feel comfortable, then the choice is yours to go where you will feel at home".

DJ Smurf one of Jamaica's mixing Genius

Errol Stewart, aka DJ Smurf, was born on September 21, 1972. He grew up in Kingston, and was raised by both his mother and grandmother. He would stay between Vineyard Town and Woodford Park occasionally, and sometimes in Cashew Park with his mother. While growing up with his grandmother, he was placed under a lot of restrictions.
His interest for the turntable budded from a tender age. While sitting at his gate, he would carefully observe as Metro Media played on weekends on the corner of every weekend on the same road.
While attending Calabar High School, he would conduct cassette clashes with his classmates. There and then he recognized his true potential and got a few mixing lessons from Ian, a friend of his, who was also a D.J. from Road Star Disco.
Later he decided to make it his career. In 1988, he started deejaying on various sound systems in the corporate area and played for various occasions, such as office parties, wedding receptions, school fetes, soca sessions, 70s and 80s sessions, dancehall sessions, and also provided background music for dinner parties.
His career choice led him to work alongside prominent DJs. He also played at various nightclubs throughout Jamaica, such as Asylum, Club 2000, Margarita Ville in Montego Bay, The Brewery in Montego Bay, and The Jungle in Negril, just to name a few.

Currently employed at HOT 102 FM, he has a few radio experiences. He appeared as a guest DJ during the Karl Marshall show, while at Fame FM. He was also a member of the 80s club at Mega Jamz.
His main interest musically is 90s to current Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Disco and Soca. Nevertheless, he has a fair appreciation for music of the 70s from various genres.
His interests also include reading, net surfing, and cooking. In fact, he has obtained a Senior G.C.E. pass in Home Economics, as well as a Teacher's Diploma in Computer Science at the Secondary Level at Mico Teachers' College
Errol's love and dedication for the music will allow him to achieve all his dreams, and to not only be a prominent DJ, but to also be a "Musical Connoisseur".

Bob Marley museum came a live with Welcome to JamRock

The gong has sounded off to signal the fans' feverish anticipation of the latest Marley album, that of Grammy winner Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley. Last week Friday, that excitement reached a heady climax at a euphoric press launch at the Bob Marley museum at 56 Hope Road, St. Andrew.
University of the West Indies (UWI) lecturer Dr. Clinton Hutton delivered the main address at the gathering of media reps, industry insiders and artistes at 56 Hope Road, St. Andrew.
"We are not here because Jnr. Gong is the son of the reggae king of the world, but because Jnr. Gong's talent cannot be disputed. If one time you could say him trying a thing because of his father, you cannot say that now," Dr. Hutton said to enthusiastic applause.
"We see that he is mellowing, he is a man of himself now...his talent cannot be disputed."
Heavyweight stars such as Bounty Killa who appears on a collaboration on the album, Richie Spice, and Richie Stephens paid their respects. Music personalities like Christine Hewitt, celebrity manager Copeland Forbes, and well-known ground networker, "Stampede" were also present.

One of the highlights of the event was a video presentation covering the Jr. Gong's genesis and physical/spiritual development from baby stage to tentative young dreadlocked teen to supremely confident performer with very long dreadlocks rocking Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest 2005 in Montego Bay, St. James. During the presentation, two females, who hail from Trench Town, appeared to be wetting the seat of their tight jeans given their "superenthusiastic" reception of the presentation.
The young Marley paid homage to his mother, Cindy Breakspeare, saying 'big respect' for making sure that education came before music. He fielded questions from journalists, and greeted with humility the ecstatic encomiums heaped on him by adoring fans. He was gracious yet authoritative in his defence of his chosen genre -dancehall.
"Dancehall music was what I was listening to growing up," he said
He responded to critics of the negative images portrayed in 'Welcome to Jamrock'.
"We have lots of songs that display different sides of Jamaica. Is just that it (Jamrock) get popular. It is great to hear people saying things. The song is meant to provoke thought," he said.
The launch also featured a creative backdrop to the official proceedings which reflected the charming poverty of the inner city with its old brick buildings, graffiti-choked zinc fences, with slashes of red, green and gold, 'more justice' and 'one love' written on opposite sides.
Earlier in the evening, Paula-Ann Porter, who hosted the function, said there had been an international bidding war for the album, which is a joint effort among Tuff Gong, Ghetto Youths and Universal Records/Motown. Jnr. Gong said he went with Universal because it already has a significant amount of the family's music, including his father Bob's and brother Stephen's. He noted that going with Universal also allows him input in the distribution of the album.

Dj Sunshine lighting up the airwaves

Many consider her the sexiest female disc jock in the business, for others she spreads joy, laughter and her vivacious personality and talent ensures that she is constantly in demand. Just as her name suggests DJ Sunshine is lighting up the radio scene these days. Only two and a half years on the air and already she has achieved what many disc jocks dream about. Sunshine has carved a niche for herself in the very competitive world of radio.
Just listen to her slots on Irie FM on Wednesdays from 2:00pm to 6:00 pm, Thursdays 2 pm to 6:00 pm and Fridays 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm that is why her career has catapulted in such a short time.
On Wednesdays be prepared for a little bit of everything while on her Thursday and Friday afternoon slots it's a party vibes with Sunshine knowing just what to serve to her entertainment hungry fans.
And to think Sunshine never saw herself as being a radio disc jock, while she was working at Harry's Bar on Constant Spring Road. It was one of those gigs that DJ face from IRIE FM heard her playing and decided she really was good. He told her he wanted to introduce her to Brian Schmidt. Brian was very impressed with Sunshine and that led him to introduce her to Carl Young owner of the station. The rest as they say is history as she is now comfortable ensconced at the top station.

Born in St. Andrew DJ Sunshine attended St. Andrew High School for Girls. She was all set on being an architect and was firmly encouraged by her mom to pursue that dream. With that in mind she went to study at Miami Dade Community College "to get that piece of paper". Having completed her studies, Sunshine realized that she really didn't want to be an architect. According to her, music was in her bones.
She bought a Gemini CD system and had it entertaining herself while she practice her spins at home. It happened that her friends used to throw a lot of house parties and she ended up being the 'unofficial' selector. It was while selecting for her friends Sunshine realized she had found her true calling - selecting. From then on she started to freelance her talent. Now she is very in demand playing at football matches, sessions and serving as emcee.
What is so special about this disc jock? Well Sunshine will be the first to tell you that it is all about humility and being yourself. She stressed that you must always know that there is room for improvement and stays focused. Relaxation for this busy disc jock is lying down in her hammock with her dog at her side cooling out.

Turbulence the future of a Hungry Town

Even though his stage name is the chaos-inducing 'Turbulence', this 24 year-old artiste is one of the most grounded, humble and focused young artistes you will find in the music business today.
Born Sheldon Campbell January 11, 1980, he attended Swallowfield All Age, and St. Andrew Technical High school before graduating from the latter in 1998.
Turbulence grew up in the poverty-stricken area of St. Andrew which had been charmlessly dubbed 'Hungry Town' by its residents. 'Hungry Town' is actually 6 Mary Crane Lane, Kingston 8, a network of concrete squatter settlements located close to Constant Spring in St. Andrew. However, it was a rough-and-tumble experience for the young man, and he got into mischief at times, but his passionate love for music kept him grounded and led him to the path he needed to follow to fulfil his true potential.
"I grew up with two brothers, one sister and my mother, and it was really hard. Often, we didn’t have enough to eat but there was always a lot of love to go around from my mom because I never knew my father. The place is called 'Hungry Town' and with good reason because a lot of real poor but trying people lived there... sufferation, violence, and real uptown ghetto. But I got through it," he said.

A year after completing his secondary school education, Turbulence hooked up with the Exterminator Record label which already boasted such heavyweight acts such as Luciano and Sizzla. Turbulence's life was about to change forever.
Realising the incredible talent harnessed within the slender frame of this young man, Phillip 'Fattist' Burrell, the head of Exterminator adopted him into the family, and that's where he has remained for the past four years.
During his first year with the camp, Turbulence made an immediate impact with an inspirational gem of a song, 'Think of Peace', and his first ever song, 'On My Way to Zion' which he recorded in 1999, and a critically acclaimed debut album.
On the strength of this album, he became the opening act of dancehall firebrand Sizzla, and after wowing an audience in his first ever performance in Trinidad in front of thousands who had come to see a show headlined by Lauryn Hill, Turbulence never looked back.
"I am really grateful to Exterminator, they are the ones who believed in me and put me on the map. The people there look out for my welfare, it's not just a producer and some artistes, it is a family," he said.
Known for his high-energy, 'riot-inducing' performances, Turbulence has toured the United States extensively, and has been on a number of European and Caribbean tours.

In 2003, he followed up his debut album with sophomore effort, 'Rising', and more success followed. Recently, he released his latest album, 'Join Us', and has a small armada of singles which have been enjoying airplay locally such as 'Run Cow', 'Babylon You Doomed', 'Not Like Them and Those', 'Universal Struggle', 'Gideon Start Again' with Ancient Monarchy a.k.a Frisco Kid, and the popular 'Want a Natty' alongside Billboard chart-rider Sasha. The combination single, 'Want a Natty', has been doing very well, and the video for the song is in heavy rotation on local television and cable stations. A new medley video for the soon-to-released single, 'Name and Number' and the single, 'Baby Let's Go' will be introduced to the public soon as well.
