The Year in Review

As the days in 2009 comes to a close, we can’t help but think of some of the news that rocked our world throughout the months. Yardflex now take you back on a reflective journey on some of the news that made our headlines for the year.
January
Jamaica was stunned by the news that gospel singer Moses was found dead near the Hope River. It’s still not clear how he died, some think he might have been pushed while others are speculating suicide.
Reggae singer Gramps Morgan made his solo debut at Jazz and Blues Festival and from all accounts he put up a good showing.
The romance that was brewing with Tarrus and Etana fizzled out. Speaking of Tarrus, his father Jimmy Riley found himself in trouble with the law after punching his wife.
February
Singer Luciana received a proper beating from Freckles
The weekly newspaper Sunday Herald changed ownership with the new owners being a group of investors led by the Rev Garnet Roper.
DJ Spice got engaged, but doesn’t seem ready to walk down the aisle, lets see what 2010 will bring.
Still on the music, Gyptian fired yet another manager…we never really found out what his grouse was.
March
Luciana was back in the news, this time he faced the charge or harbouring a criminal. And we don’t have to remind you about the drama that took place at his house involving shootout with the police and all that.
It was the end of an era for Radio Jamaica when they ceased operations of its RJR AM service.
Kirk Headley was found dead, the 31 year old international model’s lifeless body was found at the upscale Paddington Terrace residence of his parents in Kingston, Jamaica. He was found hanging outside the house.
Barcode promoter Ibrahim Konteh, was shot and injured in the Windward Road area of Kingston.
Past Digicel Rising Star contestant Laden found himself on the wrong end of the law when he was arrested by the Junction police for disorderly conduct and using indecent language. We hope this will be a lesson to him.
Vybz Kartel flop Freddie McGregor show big time by not showing up for it after Freddie acted on his suggestion to include Dancehall on the bill. Whew!
June
The biggest shocker of all pop king Michael Jackson died under questionable circumstances. The world has still not recovered from the loss…doubt if his fans ever will.
One Third called it quits with their manager Ray Alexander
July
The widow of Alexander Bustamante passed on
Kentucky Kid woes with the police started … such a sad ending to the saga, wonder what would have happened had the powers that be taken a little more interest in his plight. Guess we’ll never know now.
Selector Richie Feelings was hurt after a brawl at the weekly session on Constant Spring Road, Uptown Mondays.
August
The US government made the request for Dudus to be extradited.
The Jamaican athletes exploded on the Berlin stage, Usain Bolt broke his records, we copped a record number of medals and even now we are bursting with pride.
September
Conscious reggae singer, Etana has signed a management deal with Irish and Chin and is now being booked exclusively by Headline Entertainment.
Trilla U lost his daughter under tragic circumstances and six days later he was baptized. We pray for continued strength for him as he deals with the loss.
Selector Foota Hype was arrested by the Constant Spring Police regarding the beating of a Cassava Piece resident.
The music industry lost another stalwart when Steelie of Steelie and Clevie fame passed.
October

Prodigal Son’s wife launches book From Brokenness to Victory
Dancehall artiste Blak Ryno spent a night in jail for an alleged attack on his neighbour at his Winchester Estate apartment. Bounty Turned back from performing in Trinidad.
November
Oprah announces the curtains will come down on her show in 2011…Imagine one whole year away and a lot of people are already bemoaning the fact.
Munga Honourebel get a mention in the news but not about music. He was involved in a squabble with the police after riding an unlicensed bike and not wearing any protective gear it is alleged that when the police accosted him not only resisted but told them indecent language.

American Airline crash landed – thanks heavens there were no fatalities.
Buju Arrested on drug charge…the saga continues on this one.
