JPS issues reward for Oil thieves

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is offering a reward for information on Saturday night's theft at the Parnassus substation that left thousands of Clarendon residents without electricity.

The power company has placed $500,000 on the table for information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in the theft of oil from a transformer at the substation.

The JPS says the removal of oil from the facility caused extensive damage to the transformer.

The damaged transformer caught fire on Sunday and left approximately 18,000 Clarendon customers without power.

The JPS says despite ongoing efforts to correct the situation, the instability at the substation continues to cause disruptions.

Areas that were affected by the outage include Belle Plain, Belmont, Denbigh, Palmers Cross, York Town and Parnassus.

JPS New Kgn, building collapse

Meanwhile investigations are being carried out to determine what led to Monday morning's collapse of a part of the JPS building on Knutsford Boulevard, in New Kingston.

Winsome Callum, Head of Communications at the JPS says no one was hurt:

"A small section of the building facing Trafalgar Road came down this morning. I do not have any details of what caused it, but I do know that no one was injured.

"A section of the glass was broken and technicians and experts have already started looking at it to find out what caused it and how we can address the problem," Ms Callum said.
