Runaway Bay sweet pepper club -- big but no hot
The writing is on the wall. The big club in Ochie is one helluva sweet pepper. It's big, so-so, lacking in heat and vibes. And, to add to the woes, the proprietor's way of doing business is very questionable. A string of events in which the promoters failed to live up to the advertisements have left a bitter taste in the mouths of many patrons, most of whom have vowed never to go back to any event held at the club.
Claiming to be Jamaica’s newest and so-called biggest night club, the establishment located in Runaway Bay St. Ann, is all hype with very little substance.
“A pure idiyat ting gwaan inna da club yah!” is how one disgruntled patron summed it up after yet another advertised event failed again to deliver what was promised.
In this instance, the promoters promised a re-enactment of Kingston's hugely popular Weddy Weddy and Passa Passa at the end of last month, but, alas only Swatch International (Passa sound) showed up at the event billed Weddy Weddy meets Passa Passa. Stone Love was a no show and no apology nor explanation was given. Needless to say, patrons were hopping mad.
Deejay D’Angel was also a no show when she was advertised for September 12th, but never made it to the venue.
Interestingly, however, both Stone Love and D'Angel say they were never contracted for the club. Stone Love, it was reported, was booked, but was never paid a deposit; which simply means, they were not contractually obligated to be there. Checks with D’Angel’s, management team and booking agent again revelaed that D’Angel was not aware of any such date, and was actually off the island at the time of the show
However, it doesn't stop there. In another incident, a argument between ZJ Liquid and the club owner around the parking lot after a recent performance in the club was an eye-opener.
“Brethren, mi anuh alcoholic, mi play music, a deyso my ting dey….yuh book mi, pay mi, mi nuh dey pan dah ting dey bout rate yuh and mi jus run een cause yuh call mi….mi nuh dey pan dat,” those were the sentiments of ZJ Liquid in reference to the club owner'ssuggestion that they need to be on a level where when he calls, he Liquid should just show up and party.
The street is of the opinion that due its owner’s questionable past dealings, which may soon come to rival some of the most recent sensational headlines that have paraded themselves on the front pages of the Nation’s leader publications…but be that what it may be, it gets even more complicated when corporate entities refuse to take their cheques, simply because they are on these companies’ bad cheque list. A fact which was confirmed by representatives from Red Stripe’s accounts department. That within itself screams volumes about the type of entity one is operating, and when you add the shortage of salaries to staff, without rhyme or reason, the evidence becomes that much clearer.
