President Obama wins Nobel Peace prize

President Barack Obama was announced as the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner today. The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited President Obama’s “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." Of special note was President Obama’s outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.

The choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Other U.S. presidents to receive the prize were President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and President Woodrow Wilson in 1919.

In their selection, the Nobel committee praised Obama's creation of "a new climate in international politics" and said he had returned multilateral diplomacy and institutions like the U.N. to the center of the world stage."His diplomacy,” noted the Committee, “ is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

George Bush liberated 25 million people in Iraq from Saddam's regime, and we call him evil.

Obama's stimulas has done nothing, unemployment is near 10%, higher than was in 83, he is fighting 2 WARS, American dollar is becoming worth nothing due to America's debt, can't get socialized health care passed and he couldn't get Chicago the olympics. But he is the first black president, so that's cool I guess...

To the poster above (i won't even type that ridiculous user name, even though it says alot about the person) I see you know nothing about the criterior for winning the NB prize. You should stop being a mouth piece for the ridiculous Republican party and read up on the Nobel peace prize.

Congratulations Mr. President. Well deserved. Also thank you for bringing America up to #1 spot from #7 in world view. You are always in my prayers. Bless you, your family and the America.

He is not the first person that hasnt done anything that won. Martin Luther King won in 1964 before any civil rights legislation was passed. Mikael Gorbachev won in 1990 before dismantling the Soviet Union. So yeah often times, the prize is awarded as a support to a public figure with a gran vision. Haters are everywhere!!
