Montegonian claims Red Label Wine Int’l Dancehall Queen crown

DQ_puru.jpgDancing off stiff competition, Montegonian Tavia Morris, emerged winner of this year’s Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen competition staged at the Pier One Complex in Montego Bay last Saturday.
Tavia, who had entered the contest last year and did well, returned this year determined to take home the crown, not just for herself, but also for Jamaica. She provoked, tantalised, gyrated, wined — ‘dung’ and up — and made a lasting impression on the judges and patrons at the well attended event. When Roberts was announced winner, her excitement knew no boundaries.

In addition to winning the Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen title, she received $350,000 and the trophy for the Best Costume.
Last year, American Michelle Young out-danced all the contestants who came from all over the world to claim the title whisked the crown backed to North America, where it was the year before, having been won by Canadian Maude Francato.

It was truly an international contest, as second place went to Polish dancer, Ursula Fyce, who danced away with $200,000 the trophy for the Best Dance Routine. Third place went to Kingstonian Tiffany Hewitt, who was made $100,000 richer.

It was the 14th staging of the contest and this year’s theme was “The Angel Edition” and promoter Brian ‘Big Head’ Martin was recognised for his big heart. He was crowned Angel With A Heart for his contribution to education, by donating part proceeds of the event to a scholarship fund for needy students.
