Independence celebrations winds down tomorrow
The 2K9 Festival activities will wind down tomorrow with the Big Grand Gala Independence Celebrations set to take place at the National Arena. Later on in the night there will be street dances across the country with the one for Kingston set to take place at Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree square.
Jamaicans are invited to join the 'Free for All' costume group, which will be led by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires Band during the float parade on Independence Day. The costume group is open to any member of the public who wishes to participate, and individuals are asked to wear the national colours - black, green and gold - or the plaids of the bandana.
Other groups for which costumes have been prepared to reflect various themes in focus this year are Kingston Revival and World Beaters. The Free for All group, according to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) release, "is just the thing for the rest of the Jamaican family who would love to be involved in the parade".
The parade begins at the Ranny Williams Entertain-ment Centre, proceeds west along Hope Road to Half-Way-Tree square, south along Half-Way-Tree Road to Cross Roads, north along Old Hope Road, then on to Lady Musgrave Road. The parade will end at the Digicel car park at the intersection of Lady Musgrave Road and Fairway Avenue.
Interested persons are asked to register at the Head Office of the JCDC located at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10.
