Beenie Man ruled!
It was Beenie Man all the way at Reggae Sumfest Dancehall night held at the Catherine Hall Entertainment complex on Thursday. The organizers officially crowned him King of the Dancehall and he lived up to the title in every way. Beenie Man was the crowd’s darling and he could do no wrong fro them. From the word go, he was totally in charge as he give them exactly what they wanted – real entertainment. When he poked a little fun at Bounty and D’Angel with the Michael Jackson/Paul McCartney combination The Girl Is Mine the crowd ate it all up.
Beenie wasn’t the only one who delivered big time on the stage dancehall night, Bounty Killer came out in a militant mood declaring himself as the poor people’s voice. He made it clear he is a man now and not a youth…before going into a totally satisfying performance. His other Alliance stable mate Mavado did not have any such luck as he failed to get the crowd going. Vybz Kartel on the other hand was a hit with the ‘Gaza friendly’ crowd. It was twice the fun when later on he joined Beenie Man on stage.
Earlier in the evening young acts such as Stacious, G-Mac and I-Octane managed to give account of themselves. Digicel Diva D’Angel came out more like a go-go- dancer pole and all and for all that still fell flat in her performance. The other Digicel Diva Lady Saw showed why she is called the Queen of the dancehall. She had the crowd lapping up everything she dished out. It was even more fun she incited a Caucasian to “pat her front’ it was hilarious watching the timid man trying to obey Saw’s instruction to pat and talk dirty to her. Other acts for the night that represented really well were Flippa Mafia, Assassin, Elephant Man, Demarco, Kip Rich, Assassin and Busy Signal.
