Following her arrest and charge for fraud, amounting to $7 million, attorney-at-law Antoinette Haughton Cardenas is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
On July 2, Haughton Cardenas was arrested by Fraud Squad detectives and charged with defrauding one of her clients, 60-year-old farmer Samuel Rowe.
As the lawyer for Mr. Rowe, Haughton Cardenas in 2006 collected a cheque on his behalf for $7 million in damages, following a successful suit in the Supreme Court. Mr. Rowe had sued the May Pen Hospital for negligence.
It is alleged that the attorney pocketed the money.
