Friends of Shadayne Smith, a 15-year-old resident of Woodlands in St Elizabeth, who collapsed and died last week at school while playing a game of 'water war' are still in shock.

The police report that the incident occurred at about 11:30 last Wednesday morning at the school. The teenager fell unconscious and was reportedly taken by the school nurse who rushed him to the Black River Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Both students and staff at the school have expressed shock at the incident, noting that the youngster was “friendly and energetic”.

According to a newspaper report, Smith had just completed his end-of-term examinations last Wednesday and decided to partake in a game of water bombing, a traditional game played on the final day of school in which students simply chase and wet each other.

The police say a post-mortem is expected to be conducted to determine the actual cause of death but admitted that it is suspected that the teen may have drowned.
