Strachan, who enjoyed an 18-year relationship with Myrie — which produced five children — went to the court in April this year in a bid to have the joint tenancy severed for several properties which she and Myrie own.
According to a source close to the couple, after a breakdown in the relationship which led to a separation, Strachan sought to protect herself and, in particular, their five children. She reportedly approached Myrie with a suggestion that certain properties which were owned by both of them be signed over to her and in turn she would willingly relinquish all rights to other properties in which they shared tenancy in common.
It is reported that initially Myrie refused to entertain this suggestion and as a result, Strachan took the matter to the Supreme Court. But, according to the source, “good sense prevailed”.
“She had his back against the wall. After so many years of them being together, she would be entitled to half of everything he owns. So it made sense for him to give her what she was asking for,” the source stated.
It is reported that the properties in the claim included an apartment at Priory Court, Devon Road, St Andrew, the property at Ballater Avenue, Kingston 10, which houses the Donovan Germain-led Penthouse empire; houses at Jacaranda Close, Braeton, St Catherine; Carlisle Avenue, Kingston 8; and the family house in Belgrade Heights, Kingston 19.
In addition to being given the Devon Road property, Strachan also received the house in which she now lives and 25% of the Ballater Avenue property, which was reportedly jointly owned by Germain and Myrie. The source added, however, that in the case of Ballater Ave, Strachan’s name was always on the property, its “just that it’s now changed to joint tenancy”.
