We at yardflex would like to send out our condolences to the parents of all those who were killed in the fatal crash involving the 15-year-old who took away his father's pick-up and went for a drive.
All this happened on a late night joyride which turned deadly on Monday when a pickup truck driven by a 15-year-old boy crashed into a utility pole along the Port Henderson main road in Portmore, St Catherine killing three children.
Police identified the dead children as 14-year-old Oshane Salmon; Crystal Robinson, 15; and her brother, Matthew Brown, 10, who the cops said were among a group of six youngsters travelling in the motor vehicle at the time of the accident.
Pity must also be extended to this youth who in his zeal to drive incurred the accident...no doubt he has his own private hell to face and we are not talking about jail time.
But there are questions which must be answered what were these children doing in a pick on a late night joyride. 10-year-old...shouldn't he be under his parents control, his every move being accounted for?
It is too late to preach obedience to those who died, but we must now strive to get this message home to those who can be converted. To obey is tons better than paying the sacrifice...in the case of the driver...we shudder to think of the future that faces him...to the ones who died...they can never be replaced. Their loved ones must now find a way to cope with the pain.
Parents please, teenagers will always be teenagers...adventure, wanting to try something they shouldn't...don't leave your vehicle keys or guns within easy reach...that's like holding out a candy to a baby.
Granted he should have been responsible enough not to listen to his father but prevention will always be much better than finding a cure.
As a community...let's all practice to be each other's guardians...it's the only way we can help each other's kids
