Minimum Wage is a joke

 Honestly this government must take us all for first class idiots. Just look into the situation the minimum wage was three thousand and seven hundred dollars. Following the budget debate the grand announcement was made that it will not be four thousand, wow, imagine that all of three hundred dollars has gone on it. Imagine dat, the government is so thoughtful…they are thinking about all those poor mothers who are struggling to send their children to school and put food on the table…jeez, I’m so overwhelmed at their generosity that I want to cry.
Yeah right, if I shed any tears it will be for the poor mothers and fathers who are already struggling and now it seems as if there is no real end in sight.
Three hundred dollars…and let’s see they put over eight dollars on the hike on gas, they didn’t touch rum and cigarettes, they tax noodle, salt and all the basic stuff that poor people need and yet they somehow imagine that $4000 per week is enough to put food on the table, pay the bills and get the kids off to school.
I lift my hat to all those champion women out there who are beating the odds and managing to somehow make two ends meet…even though in others eyes it’s a miracle.
For real the minimum wage is a biggest joke I have ever seen, the only thing is I can’t afford to laugh.
It’s time that emphasis is placed on the real background of the country, the hardworking mothers and fathers who are still managing to maintain their home and provide decent values for their children. The minimum wage is a joke with the only ones laughing are those who claim to care about us.

min wage messed up everywhere in the U.S. if you make min wage you still fall below poverty level so what up with that

I totally agree. It's ludacris. I went to Jamaica and 4000 is like buying 4 meals to eat in just one day. it's crazy, the government don't really have the people at heart. Jamaica will NEVER, I repeat NEVER pay off their debt to the bigger countries. So tax what the rich can consume and leave poor people alone to eat the chicken leg and thigh instead of the back like slaves back in the days when the masters gave us the what lef. That's why our meals consist of chicken back, cow foot, cow skin, pig tails, goat head soup, and these things. Thank God for creative seasoning! The government needs to THINK OF THE PEOPLE! DAMMIT!!

yep what a joke its like making $15.00 dollars usa a day,like slaves they work,what can 4,000 jm do in one week,nuttin,price a go up and u give 300 us dollars,like 4 us dollars,sad

This is minimum wage. MINIMUM, the least amount dem can pay you. It is not a living wage. Living wage requires a skill. Mothers shoud only dagga with men who can, and will tek care of their churn, that would mek minimum wage extra wage you know? Higher minimum wage means less jobs available.... Life is the greatest, but it also sucks..

You are being emotional. Who pays minimum wage? Me. People who hire minimum wage earners. If the government dictates by law that they get a certain amount then its the employers who have to pay--NOT THE GOVERNMENT. My pay is not getting any higher $300 extra is a lot of money for me every week to fork out to my babysitter and helper. I have to work to pay them. I think the government should have left it alone because now I have to let one of them go. Too expensive. That's an extra $4000 per month for me to find. Since its so unfair why don't you hire them. To Laurel: The Government is thinking about the people! Dammit!!!

Raising the minimum wage is ridiculus. when ever it goes up when the economy doesnt increase the price of suplies also go up.The fact is most time the things u could afford before you got the raise you wont be able to afford it again. A jsut so it go.

Bwoy it rough out deh mi nah lie, mi sorry fi mi people dem. Honestly when i was working in Jamaica a year ago making $3700 i thought i was making that chedda but mi very young still(17)but now that im living in the U.S that seems like a sin. when i convert it it's like working us$44.69 a week and that fucking bad....
minium wage in the U.S for an hour is $7.25 which convert to 648.85jmd...
now the bad thing about it is that Jamaica no pay yu hourly like the us do.... it rough out deh it's a crying shame and then the bigga heads sit down and wonda why the people them a rob and kill....

I feel that keeping people impoverished like this ON PURPOSE is the worst kind of crime. It really pisses me off to see certain tourists go to Jamaica are totally oblivious to what is really going on. All they "SEE" is paradise, but reality is..human beings are being abused savagely by the system. Its modern day slavery and something needs to change. How can a country profit so much off of tourism, but not share the wealth with the people who live on the land and who are the muscle BEHIND the businesses and TOURISM?!! I love Jamaica, and every time I visit, I can feel my own outrage and also the spirit of my Ancestors screaming in anger over this.

It's 7 dollar 15 cent a hour here in the us. do the math you will see that's less than a day pay here
thats why jamaica will always be a third world country,because pay is small and things are expensive

Ali, your selfish and clueless. And yes I can hire and pay them if I want to. And it won't be minimun wage because I have a heart. So if your the one paying them, you dont have a heart. Do it yourself then. Most of these people are not teenagers, they're grown people with kids. Maybe they do need to convert to hourly wages,that way at least they can have the choice to work longer to incease they're pay. whatever the fix, but minimum wage is a joke, yes for sure. I'm just happy for my Jamaican people that through the hardship we find time to laugh, it's really good therapy.
