If Jamaica was dealing properly with this subject, parents would teach their kids that when they grow up, there are chances that they might be attracted to same sex, and if that's the case, they should re-comfort them letting them know that it will not be a matter, that they will be loved the exact same way as their brothers and sisters. If schools in Jamaica where doing their job the proper way, they should explain in classes that some people are different and have different attractions. They should show documentaries and fictional movies with gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered. They should engage in calss discussion and break taboos. Being a teenager is hard enough, you don't have to feel rejected, hated or even worst victim of violence. If the Jamaican government was doing it's job properly, they would repeal the sodomy law, the law that is used to persecute gay men. They should allow educational campaign to go on in school, on radio, on TV and in Newspapers. Public funds should be given to sponsors associations and Help lines for gays and lesbians.

The international community is not thinking that Jamaica will change overnight. But there are a lot of things that needs to be addressed and done immediately in order to make Jamaica a safe place for people that are attracted to same sex.

As for me, I am still undecided what to think about the boycott. The rebel in me says YES but another part of me is thinking that I don't want people that struggle to even struggle more. Because I know that such a boycott could stay for years and years and I know that it will affect the traveling industry, which a fair percentage of the population are directly or indirectly related to.
