65-year-old fined for drug smuggling
A British-based 65-year-old Jamaican woman pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and was fined one million dollars Tuesday and sentenced to two years in prison.
Hope Spence who hails from May Pen, Clarendon and London, England pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Criminal Court.
Mrs. Spence was arrested last week after being found in possession of 11 pounds of cocaine worth more than $10 million.
The narcotics police reported that the retiree was preparing to board a British bound flight at the Norman Manley International Airport when she was stopped and searched and the cocaine found in her luggage.
