Oh for some women to adorn themselves properly!

By Rootzgirl
Rasta-Girl-Posters.jpgThe other day I was driving down a certain street in downtown Kingston and I couldn’t help groaning inside. In that short journey I must have passed at least six women on the roadside dressed in torn clothes, their big bellies protruding, some looking as if they had not taken a shower from the day before and I couldn’t help but wonder if these women lived with their partners.

Of course I came to the conclusion that they didn’t live with any man, for the simple reason that no man was going to allow his woman to walk through the door looking so unkempt and as my grandmother would say “slackey tidy”.

Where is the pride that would see them taking a good shower, putting on some decent clothes and coming out on the road looking like the ladies they are supposed to be.

It is truly a turnoff for me to drive on the street and see these women parading in all kinds of careless manner…and the worst thing is that they think it is OK to behave like that.

The one instant where a friend of mine told off one and suggested she tried to put herself together must better than that, she was greeted with a string of expletives and told to mind her own business…in fact Miss Ting went as far as suggested that if my friend didn’t watch her mouth then she might get a bullet for it.

So me, I just look, groan within myself and let things lie. If women want to go around like that, then let them…the big disappointment is that there are some careless men around the place who will still hunt them and so why not, they will not see anything wrong with it.

Believe me when I tell you that your man would bed these women too. They may look bad that day but at night you never know what they look like. Leave the bloody women alone and mine your own business that's spoiling!

You would be surprised to find out that these women are probably in much more stable relationships than you... it's mind over matter and as my granny used to say 'every hoe have dem tick a bush!'

There are a lot of women who only get primped if they are going to a party or elsewhere... if they are just going out on the street, why waste their good clothes... keep in mind that some people just don't have it, and just don't care what you or anybody else think.

I remember a couple years ago I followed my son to the bus stop then about a hour after that I was going out to work and this lady stopped me and said, I saw your mom this morning! I told her not my mom that was me!

You see you can look good one minute and the next you are a hot mess.........and guess what I've had the same man for over 26 years!

Rootzgirl the men at home that these women have are probably "slakey tidies" themselves- sporting the triga foot look accompanied by the junjo coated knaka knaka teeth and the green arm smell so they don't mind. I know what you mean because when I witness these unkempt women I too groan inwardly, then point and laugh (all from my vehicle of course, lol). What example are these women setting for their children and to young girls in their communities. Sometimes when you look at some of their arm pits it looks like tumbleweeds got caught in there. Alot of these women have craked heels and fugus infected toenails- just plain nasty. I think women should try to be clean at all times - you don't have to be rich to be clean. These same women who say they are poor and cannot afford to buy a $700 skirt and a $300 blouse are the same ones who will buy $2000 worth of bleaching creams, $300 worth of cash pot and a $2000 stocking cap wig. A good bath and a some clean clothes and a pair of slippers than is not busted or dirty does not take that much effort. People fail to understand that the first impression is made by ones appearance.

I find your criticisms very harsh seeing that I work with the homeless and the risk of being homeless I do believe most people wear what they can afford and are getting by on the basis, at least they are not naked.

Not everyone have the cushy job that pays wells; and some women do without so they can provide for their children. I think we need to reflect and empathize with other people we need to be more accepting and in fact more helpful rather than being critical.

Not everyone is interested in being the hot girl, some people are just praying for shelter and food to eat for today, not knowing what tomorrow brings.

It is so easy to sit on your high thorn and assume and think you know what people are going through or where they have been.

But we as fellow brothers and sisters need to stop being judgmental, why didn’t you extend a helping hand rather than being condescending.

Please reflect on what I just said…you know not what tomorrow will bring or how God will test you.

Rootzgirl is right.

I know there are is alot of poverty in Jamaica, but you so poor that you can't afford some decent clothes, make sure you have a wash cloth, face rag, soap, shampoo, hair oil and body oil, tooth brush, toothpaste and mouthwash, come on those are the basics, rootzgirl is right they are out of control.

Rootzgirl, ah condem yu ah condem the women dem. What if they cannot do any better?

@Shaunette - You are so right. I know for a fact of a female that argued and critized another woman on how the woman looked terrible and cannot put herself together. Later it was found out that the woman wey nuh look good and cannot put harself together is sleeping with the one wey ah do the critisizing Man.

Ever comments that I read so far have all valid points. Some women can do much better, but some can't. To each their own. I myself works with the homeless and I have seen the worst of the worsted. Let us get to know someone before me judge them, a simple "HELLO" will do and you can get to know that person more then maybe you will understand their situations more. One love my people.

I notice the same thing when driving through ANY ghetto community. Being poor is a sad thing.
