Lil Wayne tops Grammy nominations while Reggae’s legends shine

lil wayne_rixxter.jpgLil Wayne received 8 nominations yesterday, topping all others, for the 51st staging of the annual GRAMMY® Awards that will be held on February 8, 2009 Nomination announcements were made at The GRAMMY® Nominations Concert – The Countdown To Music’s Biggest Night that featured past award winners reading nominations and performing in celebration of the GRAMMY® museum’s grand opening.

Nominations for Best Reggae Album went out to:Burning Spear for”Jah Is Real,” Elephant Man - “Let’s Get Physical, Heavy D for “Vibes,” Lee Scratch” Perry – Repentance, Shaggy for “Intoxication” and Sly & Robbie’s “Amazing.”

Coldplay garnered seven, nominations and Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West each earn six nods. Alison Krauss, John Mayer, Robert Plant, Radiohead and Jazmine Sullivan receive five each, and Adele, Danger Mouse, Eagles, Lupe Fiasco, George Strait, and T.I. each have four, while Rihanna goes up for Best Pop and Best Dance Recording. Estelle, who appears on Jamaica’s Jazz Fest stage early nest year was nominated for her Kanye West collaboration, “American Boy.” In the categories, Song of The Year and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
