Spate of Kidnappings and Kidnap Attempts Hit Jamaica

kidnappicedit.jpgWomen and girls have been the steady target of unscrupulous men who have been recently wreaking havoc in different areas of Jamaica with their random kidnappings or attempts.

In what has been described as a senseless and seemingly organized crime wave, kidnappers have triggered an immense sense of insecurity and trepidation within the Jamaican society.

Stories of rape, abduction and murder have been prevalent lately and police reports warn women about imposter cabbies who have been attacking females.

One 12 year-old in Westmoreland had the fright of her life as a car filled with men stopped to pick her up earlier this week. Upon suspecting that the occupants were unfriendly, she turned to run, only to have the male occupants jump out of the car to give chase. Luckily the young girl was fast on her feet, but some girls have not been so fortunate.

Females of all ages are therefore being encouraged to be extra careful as they travel about the country and citizens are being asked to call in reports of suspicious activities.

Unsubstantiated reports mention the possibility of some sort of cult on the prowl for virgins to take part in a ritual. Police have however, not confirmed or commented on this.

Jamaica needs to put a stop to the influx of Hatians coming into the country, Nothing like this was happening two years ago. They are into killing children, rituals and all sorts of ungodly things. God is not sleeping, why to you think he IS dealing with their country with such wrath. Those people are wicked, now there is a large influx of illegals to Jamaica PLEASE WATCH YOUR CHILDREN, In Haiti, they think nothing of cutting children.s throats as part of certain rituals. DO NOT GET INVOLVED ON THIER RELIGIOUS SECTS, As you are aware in the past hurricanes lick Jamaica NOT wash it away and kill thousands, Jamaica may be bad BUT we are NOT wicked peple.

Throughout out the world these senseless acts of crimes seem to be circulating. it seems as if the general population have lost their minds and really caught up in the hype.Respect for life is no longer an issue, No matter woman or child.

Caroline, your statement is unfair. There are wicked people in Jamaica too, and everywhere in the world. I don't say your concern doesn't have merit, but we as Jamaicans have a worldwide resputation of being law breaking trouble makers, so we really have no place to judge another Island. This coming year will be 5 years since I was raped by a taxi man friend. I'll never forget it, nor have I been the same since. I have a serious distrust for men, and even now that I'm married, I have periods where I feel distrust for my own husband. Rape changes a woman in every way possible. I've learned to hate men who rape, and have even fantasized about killing them, and child rapists and molesters. I can say this, because I attempted to stab the man who raped me, I only last minute came to my senses.

My point is this, I'm from Jamaica, and I always have gone back, and these recent spate of kidnappings and rape will still not make me stay away, but it does bring up those old memories, and makes me even more cautious. I thank God that young girl got away, because God only knows what those men would have done. I pray for Jamaica, I don't want it to be so dangerous that it's uninhabitabal, that would signal the end of the island. I hope the police are really on this, and try hard to fix this rampant problem that is going around now.

Ladies, trust no shadow after dark, stay in groups, and this may be predjudice, but don't trust any cabbies especially after dark, don't go in thier cabs unless you see at least one other woman, and still keep alert. Even red plate cabbies are not a gaurantee to be safe, because I've heard of bus drivers who can also be easily identified, raping women. Be safe ladies, and God bless.

I agree with you 100% Caroline, two years ago there was nothing like this, and now ever since the heavy influx of haitians in our country, these strange happenings have now taken over our country. I am therefore imploring all parents and guardians to be vigilant when it come to your children, be careful who take them to and from school, stop by school now and then to see how they are doing and remember the is nothing wrong with being "OVER PROTECTIVE".

I live in Westmoreland and I can tell you that it is really scary. Im a woman with two daughters and each time they leave home for school I worry until they return home. The police will never ever do anything about these issues until someone dies, trust me, it may sound harsh and im not trying to undermine anyone, but its the truth. It is not only little girls that they are after. It has been said that they kidnapped and sodomized a man, dont know how true this is and i dont want to spread any rumors. But we need to be on the look out for these culprits. I think the police should at least try to do some investigation when these things are reported, because so many persons cant be lying about it and we all are scared to death.

Caroline, I said the very same thing, am from JA. and never in history such things happen in JA. Everyone protect children and I mean everyone, from the Dons to the wanna-bes. I think its the Haitian as well, so much of them is in JA.and its hard to tell them from an ordinary Jamaican unless they open there mouth to speak. Jamaica is known for thiefs, killing by knife, gun, domestic dispute, etc. but never on the kids and the female. NEVER!!!. I hope that the dons step out and help protect the kids and female, but regardless I cannot turn my back on where am from. We just need to come together and help in whatever way possible.

could not the great yardflex find a different pic. this is not a reflection of Jamaica's problem.

I agree that we do not have a large enough police force and it appears that the ones we have are desk people...i hardly see polce when rain fall, in other countries the cops are out rain or snow.

Can someone tell me when does the Jamaica Defence Force come out,,will we be all almost dead before they come out and patrol...i dont think that there are any Jamaican citizens who would mind seeing them all bout the place now and up to the christmas season

jamaican am calling on you all to protect yourself and our children please please if you see any strange man in your area please call the police and tell them dont trust no one ,these haitian are all over jamaica get them out.

Posted by: kuddie77 on November 10, 2008 01:12 PM

yes, the situation is getting worse, but instead of pointing the fingers at Haitans, how about pointing the fingers at the entertainers that you worship so much who sing about sex as if it is going out of fashion......after a while, these lewd acts will start affecting the kids as well.....

Posted by: Goodazgirl on November 10, 2008 02:12 PM

I agree with Aphrax. JALady thanks for sharing your story too. I personally know several J'can women who have been raped or sexually abused and in many cases the culprits live freely despite the fact that other ppl know of their wrong doings. This is only another level of those heinous crimes against females that have been going on in Jamaica for many many years...so I wouldn't blame it on the Haitians.

I also feel that the death penalty or serious torture for convicted felons should become a part of our justice system. More importantly we need cops who are not corrupted and anda system that will allow fair and thorough trial for accused criminals. Another major problem we have in J'ca is innocent ppl spending years in jail before even having a trial. So when we have a suspect we need to make sure we have the right person.

Anyway, it is very saddening to hear of these things happening in J'ca and I pray that people will be extra cautious and report any suspicious activity they see. I also pray that God will cut down those culprits and make them suffer 7 times worse what they have put innocent women through.

God help us.

Posted by: kd on November 10, 2008 09:01 PM

Only god can save Jamaica. Every crime that can be committed, Jamaicans take it to the extreme. I only pray for the innocent and hope that god will protect them because the police are surely not doing their job. Jamaica's crime is so sad and every year it gets worse and worse.

Posted by: amedat on November 11, 2008 12:40 AM

caroline stop the foolishness.
If your argument had any logic to it a lot of countries and their leaders would not be on the face of this earth. haitians might be implicated in some of these crimes but it is an outright lie to imply that outrageous crimes were not taking place in jamaica prior to 2006. 20 years ago, a neighbor of mine was brutally raped by her jamaican step father and she was provided little remedy in the criminal justice system. If we allow ourselves to subscribe to ethnophobia, then we will never realize that the true failure is our government. Same old faces, same old results. Once JA start the wholesale expulsion of other non-jamaicans for baseless reasons and ethnic fear, don't complain when they similarly treat j'cans in other countries. They've already started that with the reggae artists.

Posted by: kerry from ny on November 11, 2008 09:42 AM

I dont really think its just the hatians. Its jamaican as well. What i cant understand is why are they targeting children, and its also a major concern if these men have kids of their own because god knows what they are doing with them. where is the goverment ? and what measures are they taking to prevent this. It really sucks because the police are killing innocent people and not protecting residents from these disgusting perverts. Maybe they need to start a petition to seek longer prison terms for men who rape, or steal.... shit bring back hanging.. do something.. and how is the homeland security in jamaica? america make it so hard for immigrants,,, damm it hatians are immigrants so deport them back to hati

Posted by: ana on November 12, 2008 12:49 PM

Its not only the haitians causing problems, but because of their beliefs and rituals its adding to the problem. We jamaicans have enough problems without people from other countries addng to it. Another problem is the porn that men are sitting down watching and getting ideas, and then going on the prowl to put our sisters at risk. Its sick and the men must be punished.

The Jamaican govt. better step in quick cause stories like this aliong with this picture will not be helping the big tourist industry in JA. "Amedat", that was very well put.

Caroline, Gail, etc....

You all are so ignorant. Go read a damn book or something! It's very easy to point the finger at the next person. Every time I hear a damn Jamaican song or watch a music video, all I see or hear are words of guns, drugs, and sex. Especially sex. How many songs is Mavado going to make about f**king.....like Car Back and Force it up hard etc.... oh yeah, your boy Deva Bratt or whatever his name is...running into trouble with the law for having sex with a minor. I assume Haitian ppl had something to do with that too huh?? Please take the time and re-evaluate what's really going on with your country and stop blaming others. Especially those who are immigrants seeking a opportunities for a better life in your country.

Posted by: ppl on November 13, 2008 02:14 PM

i agree our songs are too sexual...first time the songs wee not so plain and explicit.
The songs full of sex and the movies about Jamaica full of guns.
I always wonder how these film makers get licence to produce these movies in Jamaica
Children live what they hear and see
Criminals are taking advantage. so what is Bruise Golding government doing about this, he and his security force who busy talking about there is no increase in rape and kidnapping...one is one too much.
where is the soldiers as rain fall Jamaican police gone indoors to the bars that are in there police stations.
Soldiers need to be out especially when schools let over.
Let us pray...some ogvernment officials only care that tourist come to Ja, they dont give a rat's ass about Jamaicans
That's why we export our sugar and banana and then import for local consumption...bunch of losers
Caroline you need to read your comment again

I am shock and outrage that the Jamaican government is allowing Haitians to enter Jamaica with their Voo Doo and AIDS. The Jamaican government needs to take care of home first before they can take care of anyone else. All of a sudden Jamaica is in a SPIRITUAL WAR, and seems to be caught up into some kind of pergotory between good and evil since the Haitians started taking up residence in Jamaica. The government needs to understand that Haiti's salvation maybe Jamaica's destruction. Just remember that Jamaica is a christian country and Haiti religion is Voo Doo, pure CROSSES that.

I understand that this is a very serious matter and calls for immediate concern from all Jamaican citizens and those who love Jamaica. I do think that it is not smart to place the blame on any particular person or group until there is sufficient evidence supporting that claim or ideology.

Jamaica has been on a steady decline for several years in fact Jamaica is the third most murderous country in the world, despite Haiti being the most impoverished country in the western hemisphere it's crime rate is relatively low in comparison to Jamaica.

As Caribbean people we should exercise every restraint possible from placing blame on visitors from neighboring countries to Jamaica, without recognizing that Jamaica has had a crime problem since the last 3-4 decades that has become progressively worse over the years. We must approach this problem with honesty and responsibilty.

We all have a very important role in the solution of Jamaica's Social and criminal problem. The problem is multifaceted and multilayered and the solution would need to be the same as well.

At the end of the day we may speak different lauguages, our views may differ, and the way we choose to worship may differ but despite these mountain of differences we are always more alike than we are different.

It is time for us to put ourselves in the other person's shoes before we pass judgement. If the evidence concludes that our neighbors (Haitians) are actually contributing to the increase in violence in Jamaica then we should start the process of swift justice and deportation but let us not indulge in assumptions without evidence.

Please note the manner in which you treat your own country, woman, children, and communities sets the tone for outsiders to come and do the same. Let us be honest with ourselves Jamaicans have been the biggest neglectors of our communities, women, children and our country, a few more Haitians in Jamaica is not going to erase that fact. We have mistreated each other for decades in the name of badmindedness and politics and it has just taken a turn for the worse.

I love my country and my people but we really need to take a honest look at where we are and where we would like to be and work collectively to achieve that goal.

Politicians have always been and will always be a bigger part of the problem than the solution so if we want Jamaica to be better the answer lies in each and every one of us to say enough is enough and act in unison to protect and cherish our God Blessed country.. Peace and Love to all..

Posted by: sandra on November 19, 2008 08:55 PM

Haitians doing voodoo have absolutely nothing to do with the violence occurring in Jamaica. The problem is self inflicted. As a matter of fact, Jamaicans are traveling over to Haiti to exchange marijuana for guns...hmmm, I wonder what they are doing with the guns they are getting from Haiti? Let me guess. Killing innocent people in their own country! Also, there are Haitians who are in Jamaica against there own will. They are tricked into coming to Jamaica and when they get there, they are treated like slaves. They are doing hard labor for little or no money. It is just ignorant and unfair to keep blaming Haitian people for the problems occurring in Jamaica. When is it going to stop?

Jamaica needs a larger police force ,a larger military and a standing and reserve militia,we also need a secret service at home and abroad.this is because we have secret societies in Jamaica and abroad working against Jamaica's interest.
(A)the larger police force should have:1.more mobility;that means a roadway/highway patrol special service.2.specail weapons tactical teams stationed in the large populations areas.
3.more equipments and posting for the water police around the island.
(B)the larger JDF should have: 1.longer range ships boats and planes to protect Jamaica's Territorial waters and economic zone.
2.should be brought up to full strength and have at least twice as much personal in is reserve.
3.should only be used on a limited basis when needed by the standing police force.
4.the JDF should never have police powers and should never be combine with the standing police force.
5.the Jamaica combine cadet force(jccf) need to have a battalion in each secondary high school boys and girls across the island and it's senior members after leaving school should be a source
for new recruits into the JDF or the police force.
(C) a standing militia should be organized by the
the JDF and police force and other government agencies for each parish under the parish councils.
1.it should be trained in emergency preparedness.
2 to provide first aid and temporary assistance after natural disaster.
it must be equip with communication devices
with direct contact to the security forces.
3 it must be trained to be the eyes and ears of the security forces.
4.the Jamaica combine cadet force members can be used to augment the reserve militia during major emergencies.
5.the large oversea Jamaican community should be a apart of this reserve militia;they can provide training on a part time basis and can organize procurements of equipment and supplies overseas in their home countries.

With Jamaica and it's world-wide JamaicanROCK community organized in such away we don't of to worry about natural disasters;hurricanes, earthquakes flooding etc;it may happen but we can deal with anything.

It was okay when Jamaicans used to leave and go to
Haiti to flee slavery. But now,it is not okay when
Haitans are trying to flee their own country to
get away from poverty.Anywhere you go in this world,Jamaicans have a reputation of being violent. That is just a ridiculous stereotype.
No one enjoys being hungry. No one enjoys being poor.
