Confident Majority Elects First Black President of the United States

By: Janice Dayle
1st Family 4x6 .jpgDuring his campaign for the Presidency, the new President of the United States of America, Barack Obama said, “I’m asking you to believe, not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington, but in yours.”

Americans responded positively and with an overwhelming outpouring of confidence, the people elected the first Black President of the United States on November 4th 2008.

President Obama is definitely fresh, with a global background and global view that will serve to bolster his commitment to bring about change in Washington.

Jamaicans in the US have primarily backed the Obama / Joe Biden campaign and have been quite organized and outspoken, making sure to spread the word and positively impact the outcome. On a very active and intense blog of theirs, President Obama has been lauded as a wonderful human being who is more than worthy of the Presidency,

On the Jamaicans for Obama blog, a blogger identified as ChicaWest wrote, “Something as crucial as a Presidential candidate or a human issues like AIDS is something worth supporting [and giving] our time and effort to. And people do so passionately because the outcome has a tendency to affect our very way of life.”

The Jamaican blogger continued, “Mr. Obama is not nor will he ever be a passing trend, he is a genuine beacon of hope with an audacious vigor for the livelihood of this country. He wants to rebuild our government, restore our faith in the political system at the federal and state levels, strategically bring our troops home from Iraq, implement universal health care and strengthen America's relationship with the rest of the world…amongst other things.”

Jamaicans are extremely proud of President Barack Obama and are thrilled by the success of their efforts in supporting what is the most exiting phenomenon that has appeared on the political scene in decades.

Yardflex extends earnest congratulations to President Barack Obama and Joe Biden on their win.

Ah, this just makes me FEEL good. A black man can't fuck things up. Now maybe he can get his auntie out of the slum, and his brother out of the hut. Maybe his father will show up. Sad his white mother couldn't share this moment.

Posted by: kim on November 5, 2008 11:56 AM

Words cannot explain how I feel
Martin Luther,Rosa Parks,Marcus Garvey and all the other black men and women that helped to pave the way must be smiling right now.
Well done Barack it's been a long time coming.

History in the making. Not only coming from a man of color but a man of brillance at that, who has the qualification and the desire to lead the nation and get the respect of others around the world. I will never forget this day as long as I live. This proves that anyone regardless of race color or creed can accomplish anything if they put there mind to anything.

I understand everyones enthusiasm, but we shouldn't just look at the fact that he's black, because that has nothing to do with what the country needs now. America needs more jobs, more opportunities, lower gas prices, lower food prices, to end the Iraq war, and to spend more money on it's own people instead of on a war abroad in a country that continuously kills American soldiers as a way to show they don't like thier presence there. I hope Obama can do even half of this, because Bush made a mess of America. Black or White, right now the biggest problem is Green", people aren't making enough of it, they are losing it through the loss of thier homes, jobs, and even lives because of this war. It took me 5 hours in line to finally get to vote yesterday, and I hope I made the right decision in voting for him, although others may feel he's not going to be a good leader, but we need a change, and hopefully Obama, will bring that. Congratulations Obama, make us proud!

This was a long time coming. The United States has a long history of inequality from sexism to racism. From all the wrongs we have suffered, this is a step in the right direction.

For centuries, women have been trapped in horrible marriages, denied education, denied the right to vote, and for the first time a woman has run for president.

With the long standing sufferation of African Americans, millions of white people have voted for this great man because we see no color, only Mr. Obama's character.

Big up to de max!

realblackjamaican why go there. All black americans are not lazy. Why can't black people just get along or be cordial. Why the hate. I don't get it. I love all people. I hear alot of stereotypes about Jamaicans but I do not pay them any mind.

I am an African American woman who barely has time to sit down so I can say all black americans are not lazy..

Crime is committed everywhere, not just America. Just yesterday one of my Jamaican friends was telling me about some of the horrible crime in some parts of Kingston so crime is everywhere. I pray crime everywhere stops so people, especially children, do not die a senseless death.

Rudebwoy an others, y'all confuse me. I seen your posts, you hate America, yankees, and white people. Now here comes Barry Obama and you hail the new leader of Babylon like the second coming of Sellasie I. As for AK, beautiful place, you know their beauty queen for the state is a black woman??

Posted by: Real on November 7, 2008 12:37 PM

BG weh you still a do pon yardflex site. Jamaicans especially do not hate and that is a strong word Americans, Yankees or White People. You are obviuosly a pretty ignorant and an unintelligent person. You do not understand the culture of Jamaica and it's heritage. You need to be properly schooled with the facts. You might not support PRESIDENT Obama but I believe he is a lot smarter and wiser than you think. At least more than your party governor VP who does not know what NAFTA means and she is governor for a State. Elaborate on that. As Sizzla say you can't keep a good man down. You are not the only person who thinks and feels the way you do however, good always prevails over evil and in the end we will see who have the last laugh. BG do not talk about Sellasie I as if you know our culture. If you are a Jamaican shame on you, if you are a foreigner dont even go there. You said we hate America, do you know how many countries have lost respect for America. While u are trying to be a BITCH President Obama is trying to restore the countries credibility and economy. Dont send no more e-mail pon Yardflex. Hater.

A black President! Amazing! This will give hope to blacks around the world. We can now believe that are goals are attainable. The negative image of blacks will now change around the world!

Posted by: shaz on November 8, 2008 09:30 PM

BG have you ever thought about taking your finger from out your a/rse? Coz it sounds like one piece of bile is coming out ur trap!! Your nothing but a bog-trotting slimeball who has lost their way. Go educate yourself on black history and empower yourself to stop bleach out your stubborn black skin!!

I resent this talk bout black people must stop blame white man for social inequalities. Who else is there to blame? Who has been running that forsaken country for how many years? who is to blame for slavery; incarceration of ex-amount of black men in US; poor housing\ghettoised communities;racist attacks; ku klux klan; the list goes on.

I for one am proud that a man of colour will make it into the white house which does prove that if you want something in life with perseverance you can get it. However, in US as in UK there are many that are fighting a losing battle and have given up hope - due to the injustices theyve experienced in life. Basically, puss and dog dont have the same luck!!

The world will be watching with bated breath to see if Obama can deliver all what he promised. But even if he suceeds in meeting some/most of his proposals/policies - at least he tried.

The only reason I wanted Obama to win is the fact he is a man of colour; him married to a BLACK woman; and it is an opportunity to wipe the smile off every racist sodomites face because they believe people of color are beneath them. Well look who will become one of the most powerful person in the west!!!!!!!!!!

Every black man/woman must feel proud that this is history in the making.

OBAMA TOO THE WORLD!!!!!!!

Posted by: fyah Ras on November 10, 2008 09:52 AM

NUFF RESPECK BG U KNOW WAT YOU R SAYING black people will settle for anything. We have been trampled under babylons heel. So now they put this half white guy in to make them look good. This is already working for them. Everybody is back on americas bandwagon. Thats all they want. Barrack never even adressed REPARATION for black people. Tell Barrack and his cousins dick cheney and george bush fi go drink bleach. Black people deny Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie and all of our potential black leaders, But they accept an american white guy because he promises to make you rich. Lol Lol Lol.TOOOOOO FUNNNY. WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE, WAKE THE FUCK UP.

Posted by: OBAMA TO DI WORLD on November 10, 2008 10:23 AM

Kill anyone who gets in Barak Obama's way!!!! BG - you the firs to go!!!!!!

Posted by: shazz on November 10, 2008 03:50 PM

@fya ras nya bingi - although you a rasta fe I, you make some valid points ie Reparation fe black people - and yes obama is half white but I suspect if he was a radical BLACK man there is no way he would have made it into the white house. However, in order to achieve certain goals in life sometimes you have to play the game the white man play. Who knows - Obama may pave the way for another black candidate in the future who will make a difference to the lives of black people the world over, by making us all proud to be black, empowerment, emancipate our minds from mental slavery - something which is engrained in a lot of us.

As a nation we have a lot to be proud of check Bolt; Lewis Hamilton and now Obama.

Obama is a great achievement for people of colour as I never thought in my lifetime that a man of colour would be running the US!!

So, enjoy and allow for change.

Posted by: Change Starts With You on November 11, 2008 02:31 PM

Ah Bowy where should I being

@ BG - Educate yourself and stop the madness.

@ fyah Ras - I when to basic and primary school in Jamaica and mi neva si Haile Selassie name in a NUH text book. How has he helped us as a people? What contribution has he made to society another than full up yuh head with crap? Yuh need if eat some meat yuh protein very low.

@ realblackjamaican - I agree with you to a certain degree but not all African Americans are like that (Nevertheless, may without even trying allow themselves to fall into that stereotype).

People please don't be fooled both blacks and whites are racist. The only difference is that white people aren't affect by our racism. However, we are affected by theirs.

Finally, I voted for Obama not because I believed he can bring change no man can bring change except GOD. I did however, vote for him because from is various speeches I gather that he believes in ACCOUNTABILITY. (We as a people do our part and he as our president will do his).

The government can make college free but if when you go to school you don't apply your self then it's of not effect. If you don't turn off the TV and let your kids study or read then Obama/Bush/Clinton can't help you or your kids. People have to be accountable for their own actions. If you are not financially able to take care of 5 kids don't have them. And don’t by 5 Jordan’s then cry that you don’t have any money for food and to pay your rent and expect tax payers/the government to support you.

That’s my piece he’s one man – start by changing yourself and then you’ll see change.

Posted by: Change Starts With You on November 11, 2008 02:42 PM

Also people if you voted just because of the color of his skin then you voted for the wrong reason. If he was black and talking crap I would not have voted for him some of you are commenting and I’m sure your never watched any of the debates or listed to him speeches. And he did acknowledge all it descendants (father from Kenya, mother from Texas and being raised in Hawaii). However, he also spoke of his mother and grandmother because they raised him. His father left and when back to Kenya when he was still a child why should be speak of one who did not play a major role in who he his today. My father wasn’t in my life until I was a teenage and trust he gets NO credit for my moms HARD Work. Also, Obama also states several times that her was not presenting one group he was trying to unit all groups (black, white, Hispanic, Asian, ect.)

Posted by: finch on November 11, 2008 06:57 PM

obama a di bosssss.....thank god we now have a president that will run the country right a long time we need a change mon....god bless him obama 2 di f***ing world

Posted by: say_it_loud on November 12, 2008 12:50 PM

sometimes, black people, we can be our own worst enemy. are we really surprised at the haters and naysayers coming out the woodwork? we shouldnt be. there will always be toxic people like that getting in the way of progress.

the rest of us positive people, PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OBAMA -- yes he won the election but now is when the real work begins. he's not going to be able to fix 8 years worth of damage overnight. let's get ready to elect him again in 2012.

and from a purely emotional standpoint, I'm beyond elated that a black man is president!! our first lady is BLACK. we have a beautiful SOLID black family in the white house. a lot of people, black and white and other races, fought and DIED to make this possible. history has NOT come full circle in america but it certainly turned a corner. and i dont care, his mamma coulda been purple -- doesn't matter, he's BLACK. they used to use the one-drop rule against us but nowadays we need to embrace it. hope Michelle runs in 2016.
