Movado asked not to enter The Bahamas
Advocacy group Bahamas Against Crime (BAC) got their way this weekend, when dancehall superstar Movado was denied entry into The Bahamas where he was slated to appear at the 8th annual Millennium Countdown Concert there. The four day major event started on October 30 and ended on the 2nd of November at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center.
Earlier this month the group BAC sounded an alarm through a press release in which they pleaded with Bahamian media, government and the church to “take proper action” in what they spoke of as “an upcoming event that is poised to squander hard-earned gains in The Bahamas’ struggle to contain and reduce crime.” BAC pointed out that they took particular offence to Movado being on the bill, since, “his lyrics and persona glorify violence.” They also spoke of Movado’s songs as having sexually explicit lyrics.
The release said, "The last thing our people, especially our impressionable youth, should be exposed to are songs, dance, and simulated acts of murder, mayhem and the "gansta" lifestyle, projected and glorified by these influential individuals, in an environment of high energy lubricated by alcohol and drugs."
Promoters Sigma Management and Downsound Records combined their efforts to organize and stage the event in New Providence, with a completely different perception; as their only aim was to provide something for everyone, with the wide variety of stellar acts booked.
With the BAC utterly unaware of the positive implications of artists communicating the world’s realisms, be they sour or sweet; and the age old reality that dancehall dj’ing, rap and hip hop is documentary - they brought pressure to bear on authorities who sprung a surprise on Movado, his management and the show’s promoters as the DJ arrived in their country.
The event was promoted heavily overseas with the intention of attracting many international guests and tourists to The Bahamas. Promoter Frank Forbes of Sigma Management told The Nassau Guardian, “A key focus is that everyone must win from this major undertaking.”
Everyone but Mavado and his team that is, since they certainly lost their valuable time; as they could have been forewarned by Bahamian authorities before leaving Jamaica.
Others appearing over the weekend included: Keisha Cole, Morgan Heritage, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Jah Cure, Brian McKnight and Etana.
Tonight is the closing night and performers like: Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurking and Landlord will appear.

Alot of youths tek di war ting very personal I have never seen two man love trace so like gal. What I truly admire about Kartel and Movado and many other artist in the business is the talent. You all have amazing talent. Please put it to good use. Fire pon negativity, promote prosperity.
TO DI WHORL JAMAICA
TO DI WHORL
Why is Mavado always beign singled out?
I dont see him askin any one to pick up guns and kill others,
HIS LYRICS ARE REALITY, HE SEES EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS AROUND HIM AND DOCUMENTS IT IN HIS LYRICS, VIOLENT OR NOT, ITS JUST REALITY.

well it was about time they spoke up against violence.. anyone who watches the news will see how much crime has increased in the Bahamas. this is an effort towards ridding the nation of crime...i dont blame them...we should do it too. those lyrics do influence kids to have a badman attitude then when they start killing we don't understand that it came from the music.
mi love kartel but now i don't like his violent lyrics....and i would not let my kids listen to him.

Well Bahamas is a racist place any way they do not like Jamaica's. Bushman dose not sing any songs promoting violence and for the four times we have been there we had trouble at the airport with the airport police. So I have reason to say that they may be bias also. In the same breath what is it going to take for these artist to get the message. POSITIVE!!!!!! is the message that will take you around the world and into any country. Mavado you are being labeled has a bad Jamaica artist, when actually you are talented what you should do is certify your songs to 18 and older. I listen to your songs, they don't do any thing to the kind of person that I am. How ever young people manly boys could be influenced by your lyric's. Again it is time for the Jamaican Government to step up to the table and offer some support to these artist that are being denied the right to earn an income. Every body wants to stop the food for some reason or the other. Violence did not start with Mavado and it surely will not end with Mavado. The violence that plagues or community is what Mavado sings about, this violence existed long before Mavado was born so why make him a scape goat.

Well although Bahamians may not like us, we need to give them a good reason for them to hate. I think Jamaicans are trend setters. We all know violence started way before Movado, that still does not mean you can't be more positive in your music. What you all need to understand is that a lot of people listen to the music and lyrics that these entertainers sing about just for entertainment purpose, but there are others that are influenced by it. Dont strive to be a Gansta4life because you hate the government, the policies, the economy, the ghetto, unemployment etc. Try to work together to make the country a better place to live and a better future for your children and that goes for everyone.
So what if Bahamians are mostly gays and lesbians their business and their problem. What we stand for is right in the sight of God and that is all that is important. Now if they want to hate on us for that, tough luck, want to hate because we broke world records, tough luck. As I said give them a good reason to hate. Honestly speaking if your country have the highest crime rate or crime is on the rise in your country why would you want a DJ who mainly sings about violence in his music in your country entertaining a crowd. What they did may not sound right to you but it actually make some sense. At least they are trying to do some thing positive to control violence in their country. Remind me again what Jamaica is doing about their crime and it is way worst than Bahamas.

alliance to di world, mavado dem can't stop yu,when i listen to mavado's songs i listen responsibly, bahamas yu hear dat, also word on the street is that singer jah & baby tash are lovers & have been secret lovers for a long time, the king & the queen KABOOM
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING!!! BAHAMIANS ARE RACIST?!?!?! ITS U JAMAICANS ON THIS SITE WHO ARE RACIST!!! HOW DARE YOU CALL US A BACK BURNER CARIBBEAN COUNTRY AND HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT OUR CRIME RATE AND CORRUPTION IS GREATER THAN YOURS!!! HA HA HA....BEFORE U MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT MY COUNTRY LOOK AT YOURS FIRST.
WITH THAT SAID BAHAMIANS ARE FAR FROM BEING RACIST WE LIKE REGGAE AND SOCA AND OTHER CARIBBEAN MUSIC FORMS.... EVEN FURTHER THE MAJORITY OF OUR PEOPLE ARE BLACK LIKE YOUR COUNTRY!! HOW CAN WE BE RACIST AGAINST YOU IF OUR SKIN IS THE SAME COLOUR AND OUR BLOOD RUNS RED LIKE YOURS??? WHAT WE DON'T WANT IS MUSIC THAT SEVERELY DEGRADES WOMEN AND INCITES VIOLENCE WHICH MAVADO'S MUSIC DOES...THAT IS WHY QUEEN IFRICA AND ETANA BUJU BANTON AND MORGAN HERITAGE AND MANY OTHER POSITIVE ARTISTS ARE WELCOME TO PERFORM HERE AND USE THEIR POSITIVE MUSIC TO TEACH THE YOUNG PEOPLE THE RIGHT WAY THEY SHOULD GO!!!
LOOK AT MAVADO'S RECORD, HE COULDN'T PERFORM IN ENGLAND HE WAS BANNED IN ST. VINCENT AND AMERICA. NO ONE HERE CITED THAT!!!
WHAT I WUD HATE TO BELEIVE IS THAT ALL JAMAICANS ARE LIKE YOU PPL ON THIS BLOG. I HAVE JAMAICAN FRENDS AND THEY AREN'T ANYTHING LIKE U PPL....
