In Honour of Jamaica's Olympic Greats

team_1.jpgThe Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports have planned an exciting six part celebration for the athletes who competed in this summer's Beijing Olympics. It started off with a bang today at 11am as all remaining athletes touched down on the rock at the Norman Manley International Airport.

A welcome reception was planned to take place after the arrival in the Air Jamaica hanger.

Olympians were greeted by Jamaicans during a street parade and they will get the royal introductions and accolades at a Strawberry Hill reception this evening.

On October 4th, the National Olympic Sports Gala will take place at The National Stadium from 5 to 8 pm. Digicel has joined forces with the government organisers to bring this special event to fruition. A National Awards Ceremony will preceed the gala at 5pm; and several athletes will be bestowed with special honours from the Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall, on behalf of the Queen.

National Sports Gala official artiste list includes: Beenie Man, Elephant Man, I - Threes, Carlene Davis, Richie Stevens, Voicemail and the Digicel Rising Star Winner.

The fourth event takes place on October 5th at Emancipation Park. It will be the Jamaica National Heritage Thanksgiving Ceremony that will run from 5 to 7 pm.

October 7th sees the celebration shift from the city of Kingston to the North Coast. A Civic Ceremony will be held at Sam Sharp Square at 10:00am.

Ending in Trelawny on October 8, The Trelawny Stadium will host the Western Sports Gala and Homecoming at Trelawny. This event will go from 6 to 9.

Yardflex sends hearty congratulations to the entire Beijing Olympic Contingent.
