Despite hints of early retirement, Jamaica's most popular singjay Mr. Vegas has boldy reclaimed the #1 spot on the Hype TV Chart with his single "Daggering."
At the beginning of August 2008, the single crept from #2 to the coveted #1 spot --dropping Elephant Man's "Nuh Linga" to #2. Weeks later, "Nuh Linga" regained it's #1 spot on the chart after Usain Bolt's stunning Olympic record-breaking victory and "Daggering" was pushed to #2. Ultimately, Bolt's performance of the "Nuh Linga" dance before millions of viewers joined with Elephant Man's release of a dubbed version of "Nuh Linga" commemorating the victory, increased the song's overall popularity.
Never-the-less, the fight for Hype TV's #1 position continues. As of last week, Mr. Vegas took back the #1 spot by popular vote, pushing Elephant Man's "Nuh Linga" to #2. Following Elephant Man's current position, is Mr. Vegas' "Hot Gal Nuh Fight Over Man," which has rapidly excelled on the chart to now stand firm at #3.
This year, Jamaican artists have scored with a host of strong "dance" tunes that have become worldwide sensations. It will be exciting to see how long Mr. Vegas and Elephant Man will compete for Hype TV's top position.
