Yendi Phillips conquers new role with Digicel Rising Stars

yendi_(risingstar).jpgDigicel Rising Stars competition began in 2004 amidst the hoopla of global ‘idol’ frenzy. The popular televised talent search in Jamaica started its fifth season this year with a special brand new twist, that came in the form of a newly appointed show host; the young and extremely animated Yendi Phillipps.

Soon after her arrival, the show that discovered musical stars began to also develop media star quality; as Yendi’s entering the unfamiliar waters of television show hosting thrust her into a process of listening to critiques, learning from her experiences and steadily improving her skills. Taking over from the seasoned Denise Hunt was not an easy task, but rather than let it be an insurmountable obstacle, Yendi set goals that saw her entering into each episode feeling confident that she had improved since the last.

After several weeks of honing her live television hosting skills, Yendi explained that she has become more comfortable in her new position and by all accounts she consistently appeals to her many Jamaican viewers.

Motivated by an earnest love for media and driven by deep-rooted professionalism, Yendi has grown to become one of Jamaica’s better TV hosts. She told reporters recently, “I have always wanted to work in media and the experience with Digicel Rising Stars has taught me how to communicate with a camera, which can be difficult.”

Despite the hurdles, the young and super talented Miss Jamaica World loves the new role, is comfortable with her performance and is especially pleased with her new found ability to relate to a live audience.

With her signature charming and poised style Yendi declared, “I’m having a great time.”

Yendi Phillips is fine as hell. I would love to get a piece of that young 25 year old.

Yendi is not doing a good job. She is not comfortable and her laughter which she does is annoying. I think she can go one more season but this is not the right fit for a Yendi. Everyone thought it would have taken off because she is loved as a Miss World Jamaica winner.

But all the best to her and I hope she does get better.

I think Yendi looks good and all but she is not doing any justice to rising star being that it has been around so long and the attention people place on it. I don't know what went wrong with Denise but more persons were there. Any TVJ and Digicel get yourselves a NEW HOST for next year- Yendi nah happen!

I don't care what anyone else is saying about Yandi, she is trying and I know she will get better next season, come on its her first time as a TV host, as for Denise I am happy that she is off, she couldn't dress and she is too much.

I THINK YENDI'S GREAT...SHE'S BEING HERSELF UNLIKE DENISE AND JAMAICANS ARE JUST TRADITIONALISTS AND BECAUSE THEY R USED TO SEEING DENISE THEY ARE NOT READY TO ADJUST TO CHANGE ANYWAYS NUFF LUV YENDI KEEP DOIN YOUR THANG!!

Since Yendi start host, the show has gotten so boring sometimes mi feel fi just tun off the TV. If a never fi Anthony, I don't know what woulda happen. Yendi is a nice girl, mi like her and everything but she need fi host some kinda show like Entertainment Report or something. Digicel Rising Stars is a live show and demands a lot of energy that the host has to exude. Denise did a good job, mi did like her, and you could see dat she and the contestants had a really great rap. Yendi also loves the contestants a lot, but sometimes it can really look a way when she stan up beside the contestant dem and both she and dem look like both of dem a novice! Dem need fi find somebody else fi host the show! I wonder why Denise did haffi leave the show? She was doing great in my opinion. What about a male host for the show??? Wouldn't they consider that? But anyway, this is Jamaica, and Jamaicans are traditionalists as a previous user said - perhaps people might want to "bun fire" pan any man who host Digicel Rising Stars!
