Cleared to work in the US Mavado headlines at Irie Jamboree

By: Elizabeth Smith

mavado_assaults_patron_RTI_ATI.jpgBobby Clarke, Irie Jamboree organizer, announced today that Mavado has been confirmed and will definitely be appearing at the upcoming massive event, happening in New York this Sunday, August 31.

The Irie Jamboree team reported to Yardflex that New York fans and the thousands expected to pour in for the traditional Labor Day celebrations can rest assured that Mavado will be performing at the Roy Wilkens Park in Queens, and will give all who have waited over a year to see him live again in the United States, a memorable performance.

Back after one year of being denied entry into the US, Mavado is eager to grace North America’s premier reggae festival. Described as the hottest dancehall artist in the business at the moment, with his requests for dub plates outnumbering most artists, Mavado will be one of the headliners at Irie Jamboree.

There is no doubt about it, since Clarke reported that Irie Jamboree Inc. has been in talks with Julian Griffiths for months now; and as soon as official confirmation was received on Mavado’s clearance to travel and work in the US, he was immediately booked for the festival.

Born David Constantine Brooks in 1981, Mavado’s hits include “Fathers Prayer,” “Cassava Piece Radio,” “Sadness,” “Gully Side” and “On the Go (Faster than Bullet)” that was dedicated to Olympic Gold Medalist Asafa Powell.

This year’s festival will be a tribute to all athletes from the Caribbean who competed in the Olympic Games in Beijing this summer. There is scheduled to be a Digicel sponsored, Usain Bolt red, black and green tent for VIPs. Western Union, Pay-o-matic and Grace Kennedy will sponsor the media tent that will be named the “Veronica Campbell-Brown” Media Tent. All athletes will be honored in the food tent, to be titled, “The Caribbean Olympic Village.”

Also headlining will be King Yellowman, Beenieman, Allison Hinds, Sizzla, Coco Tea, Elephant Man, Admiral Baily, Bugle, Serani and Tanya Mullings amongst other reggae stars.

I am from the university of Malawi. I congratulate Mavado but he can be a better mon if he stopped using explicit words. He should be militant but in the sizzla or mutabaruka way.
