Jamaican's need to come on board to curb domestic violence

_domestic_violence.gif
In her message at the 10th anniversary of the Victim's Support Unit (VSU) held at the Emmanuel Apolistic Church, Portmore, St. Catherine, Minister of Justice Dorothy Lightbourne encouraged Jamaicans to come on board in order to help ease the high level of domestic violence in the Island. She stated that there were more than 22,000 reported cases of domestic violence since 2005, with more than half of the violence was perpetrated against women.

Carol Palmer, permanent secretary in the ministry said that "Women are more vulnerable..."

In attendance were the police, the correctional services, VSU personnel and politicians

I am happy to see the church talking about domestic Violence I hope they take a bigger stance as it is very privalent in the church community too.

If the women and men that faced domestic violence had more protection, then maybe more people would come forward. The government needs to get to the root of the problem and then build up a susbsable program, which will give the people that suffer from domestic violence more confidents.

Yes, let's get to the root of the problem. Change the Bureau of Women Affairs to Bureau of Men, Women & Children Affairs and deal with the male gender issue on equal footing, as many of you like to talk about equality but in reality you are all about sidelining and beating down the men in the society. Why should the taxes that men pay go to gender programmes that exclude them on the basis of their own gender? Yes, give them a fair deal and approach the domestic violence with SINCERITY and stop your bigotry, hypocrisy and sexism. Men, women and children are all perpetrators and victims of domestic violence. From time to time you hear about mothers who burn babies with clothes iron or pour hot water in the child's face, they are just as violent and sometimes even more brutal than the man in the house, but you never hear a feminist lash out against female violence. Your only desire is to parade the woman and children as victims of the wicked man in the house. Some of you make a career out of this crap. You use false statistics and lies to promote discriminatory policies and programmes that fuel a cycle of social ills and violence so you can run your NGOs, build your mansions in the hills, and trumpet the same garbage year after year. You are not a solution, you are a part of domestic violence!

the real reason for dosmetic violence in jamaica is because of the politicians....if you were to ever investigate the mp' you would find where the corruption is going on....after that has happened then you would be able to find the roots to hold a full on investigation about where guns a come from, etc. another reason for the high crime rate is the lack of jobs, which we know already...in my mind the real criminals are people like lee-chin, who have billions but wouldn't ever spend a dime to change the garrisons....think about it...all a criminal needs to change is a mentality that he can actually work and get money..and enough money to live a decent life.

@Jp..... I think ur confused by the topic... Domestic violence is what occurs in the home, between a man and a woman.... example... Like a man beating his girlfriend or wife... or a man being beat by his woman(which happens but is hardly reported)!
