Eight Murdered Over the Weekend

map_of_jamaica_edit.jpgEight persons have been murdered over the Emancipation weekend, including two police officers, bringing the murder toll to approximately 926 for the year, with the officer's murders bringing the number of police officers killed since January to eight.

Corporal Rodney Henry, (33), a firearm instructor at the Jamaica Police Academy at Twickenham Park, St. Catherine, was killed while sitting at his gate in Cumberland Meadows, Portmore, St. Catherine at about 9:27pm. He received multiple gun shots and his service revolver was stolen. Less than an hour later, while investigating the sounds of possible gunshots, the police discovered the bullet-riddled body of Inspector Dennis Gardner, the Community Safety and Security Officer at the Hunt's Bay Police Station in Kingston, slumped in his car, along Armstrong Avenue, John's Height, St. Catherine.

Also murdered over the weekend were: 19 year old Jermaine Scarlet of Rose Mount, St. James. Four others, including two children were also shot and injured in this incident. An unidentified man with gun shot wounds was discovered, by a passer-by, in the Rio Cobre River in St. Catherine. 57 year old George Waston's decomposing body was found on a beach in Holland Bay, St. Thomas. Rohan Ricardo Hines 'Dread', was shot to death on St.Joseph Road, Kingston. Jonathon Spence,43, was gunned down at about 7:50pm at his home on Arthur Wint Drive, Kingston. 20 year old Rohan Hall was shot and killed along Morning Glory Crescent, Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Sunday morning.

Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin appealed for citizens to play their part in the fight against crime by calling one of the secure lines, Operation Kingfish 811, Crime Stop 311 and Police Control 119 to tell what they know.

Jamaica will never change. It will continue to get worse because the system is so corrupt. This is a damn shame. We will definetely exceed 1700 murders in 2008 because obviously the bad man dem think its cool to be the murder capital of the world. I only feel sorry for the good citizens in Ja. I could care less about the thugs and gangstas, I hope their lives will come to end like the ones they have taken.

Wade Cameron, Again I totally agree with you.
What people forget is there is crime everywhere, lets stop going on about it,and making out like only Jamaica have crime (that is the mission of the British Government)
How many soldiers and civilians are dying in Iran, Iraq..
Come Jamaica lets move forward and teach our children to love one another like we love ourselves
Time the government stand up and show the world that Jamaica and Jamaicans have so much to offer the rest of the world, lets talk about the good things that comes out of Jamaica and let go of the bad,,(dont think I am saying we should ignore it, but lets just put it where it should be at the back, and lets talk about the good things that is happening also).
JAMAICA =Here we are, embrace us, love us, don’t try and change us!!

Yes, Brothers & Sisters, it is everywhere. Not just Jamaica. I don't trust the media. They want us to only see what they show. There's many a good people and tings going on besides the negative mess they "reporting". Makes me wonder what they are trying to make us believe? That we are all lost? I say no we're not, but we have to stand TOGETHER! This is our greatest challenge as a people. Can't we all agree to stand up together for one common ting and go from there? Conquer we can, if we will. Nothing could stop us, but all of us are needed....

No need to bring English or US cities into this. Jamaica is the 3rd most murderous country per capita in the world and that is fact. It's the most dangerous island in the world as there is no other island that a murder rate close to Jamaica. It's almost getting as bad as South Africa. As I've already posted before more Jamaicans have died in Jamaica at the hands of other Jamaicans since 2004 than American soldiers have died in Iraq. That's a damn shame.

2003: Null
2004: 1,445 Jamaicans murdered
2005: 1,600+ Jamaicans murdered
2006: 1,307 Jamaicans murdered
2007: 1,574 Jamaicans murdered
2008: Null
Total:5,926+ Jamaicans murdered between 04-07

http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/

You know how many American soldiers died in the Iraq War from March 2003 to July 2008? 4,124

More people have been murdered in Jamaica within 4 year period than American soldiers have been killed so far in Iraq since 2003 (the start of war).

The problem in Jamaica goes back to lack of parenting and people making poor choices just like US urban cities. There wouldn't be so many gunman gunning down innocent people if they were raised properly. When the people who shouldn't be having babies (those who can't afford to take care of their children or simply don't want to care of their children) stop having babies Jamaica will change for the better. Because we all know that the children of those people are the ones who grow up to be a menace to society in the form of rapist, gangsta, gunmen and murderer. Thats the fact of life.

Posted by: B-RAD on August 5, 2008 04:08 PM

Yeah crime is everywhere, but most countrys you can move out of the high crime areas if want out bad enough. Jamaica so gyot damn small where yuh gonna go? Plus the population is so small for all the number of murders. Per capita JA is a killing feild. Painful to watch my favorite country suffer so...

Joao, You are right. Jamaican ghetto people have more mongrel dogs and pickney they cannot feed. Most..........most of these children are the ones who become the terror to decent citizens.
Pink Cattie as your name suggest you seem like one of those uncared for children who has become a menace to yardflex comment page. Go get a job!

The truth is still the truth at the end of day. Your kind of "attitude" is part of the reason why things will never change.

Posted by: jrock on August 6, 2008 12:42 AM

wow 926 murders is jus ridiculous toronto has the same population as jamaica with people from all over the world and we have only 37 murders so far 1 is too many but... i dont even knoe what to say imma go pray in the words of ras ghandi " likkle jamaica what we love bring it back to what is was too much violence and blood too much aks and thugs".

Posted by: trust me on August 6, 2008 09:03 AM

How come theer are'nt all these killings in The Negril tourist areas or in Ochi Rios?

How come uptown doesn't have a murder a week. If gunmen were smart they would rob the rich tourists...dem have money fi spend.

The government is behind these gangs and everybody knows it....Since they insist on supporting them..why complain.

SOLUTION...start a secret movement and kil off every don and every politician that backs these gangs

SOLUTION 2 Do nothing.......try to stay our of harms way and maybe some country will take over jamaica

Posted by: KARA on August 6, 2008 11:00 AM

Datas and researches are important, we as jamaicans need to stop watching other nations and start focusing on making our country better again. i do agree violence is everywhere the world is going through a recession and depression has alrady hit many countries getting a visa to go to another country will help temperarily but when one does not have that status of residency , frustration starts to kick in and confusion and the life of the fast lane approaches one's mind. I do not hinder no- one from coming to usa or going to another country but please have plan a, b, c and possible d because the way this world is running only the good Lord can save us a prayer a day keepS the devil away my people hold tight and pray, pray.

Posted by: Doctor on August 6, 2008 01:25 PM

Please stop with the JLP propaganda to state that the PNP is behind the killing is ridiculous. The JLP has been out of power so long they have forgortten how it works. You wont get anywhere with temporary short term solutions. The killings wont stop until the people have a decent standard of living and dont have to work so hard to live. The system creates these monsters.

Posted by: B-RAD on August 6, 2008 01:42 PM

@ Joao.....

I checked your numbers cause it sounded outrageous. You are right. Out of a country of over 2.5 million. This is a Jamaican crisis, no wonder no one wants JA's gangster DJ's performing in their countrys, on their islands.. And they call the United States babylon.. This is genocide.

Posted by: terie on August 6, 2008 04:49 PM

@ pinkcattie you are an idiot. this is not a shout out radio ok? you have nothing to do. go do some research and fill up your big empty head. joao is right. you have to face the facts. they say music reflects the people have you listened to the music lately in JA? same thing as in the inner cities in the US. thats what the kids are listening to so what do you expect.

I havent lived in Jamaica for a few years now, but evry day I plan for my imminent departure back to my homeland. I agree with comments here that mention that Jamaica is not the only place where these voilence happen. I live in Los Angeles, and believe me, its way worse. Thats not to say we are to ignore the problem. Instead of pointing blame, we as Jamaicans need to come together, and protect the community. Let the gun men kill themselves...the sooner the better,(we dont care) but we have to come together for the sake of our children, and for the future of our country. LETS RISE UP PEOPLE.....
