American wins "Dance Hall Queen" title

american-flag-2a_edit.jpgThe 11th winner of the annual "Dance Hall Queen" contest, held at the Pier One Complex, Montego Bay, holds the distinction of being the first American to win the competition.

Twenty three year old Michelle Young of Boston, USA, ecstatically proclaimed that she has never been so happy in her life. "I am going to cherish this moment for the rest of my life... I am on top of the world"

One other awardee, for Best Costume, was the crowd favourite, Tavia Morris, who initially, seemed to have been upstaging Young with her athletic movements. However, when the winner was announced the patrons applauded their approval.

The patrons were treated to an evening of top class entertainment; classic music from Pure Playazz Sound System, guest dancers and a fashion show featuring the latest designs from Big Head Clothing Store.

Jerry D hosted the give away section of the evening, where patrons had the chance to win sex toys, adult videos, condoms, a Blackberry phone and a component set.

Even though Miss St. Catherine, Marsha Campbell, was the most popular contestant, with her every entrance receiving the most applauds and 'shout outs', the awards for 1st place runner up went to Miss Kingston and St. Andrew, Traci-Ann Wint, who was also voted Most Culturally Aware, while the 2nd runner up was Miss Manchester, Subrina Ward who was voted Most Poised.

Hold up here!!!! seems as i have hit a nerve, lol, obviously, this is a free site for comments and if you are offended well..thats your problem. I am very belligerent in expressing my views so i say it as it is. There are talented male & female in jamaican who would like to show their talent and they should be given preference. Using somalian was an example....and you say im illiterate.

Black empress, your mind is so simple. It is called: Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen, so your comment about jamaicans selling out doesn't make sense. In case you didnt know america has their own dancehall queen, and so does canada and a lot of other places. And you know what, JAMAICANS win them. So do you expect them to say don't let jamaicans win in canada or US?

Posted by: co on August 2, 2008 11:59 AM

@ black empress... the show is called international dancehall queen, so 2 break it down... it means any female from any country can enter. so it doesnt really matter where the title is, it shows dat our ting 'sell off' fi a attract so many foreigners. so dont be hatin' appreciate the love everyone is showing to our product.

Why are you all attacking the Empress, .......isnt everyone entitled to their opinion?......And you talk about freedom of speech...or its only freeedom of speech when its "you all" doing the talking?
