I am not a Rastfarian, but I have done a bit of reading on this "Movement". So please take note here , Marianne, Rastafarianism is not a religion --its a movement.

Another thing, the wearing of the Dreads has NOTHING to do with Haile Selassie, instead it has to do with some ancient rule from Bible days (Nazarine Vow) where men were not allowed to cut their hair or shave their beards.

If you notice most of the elders from the Bible ,namely Moses,Abraham, Samson even Jesus etc all sported long hair. So its not becuse the Rastas are "losers" or worthless why they refuse to cut their hair. Although lots of people nowadays wear dreads as a fashion statement.

What a lot of people fail to realize is that Rasta represents truth, love and unity and while no one is forcing anybody to become a Rastafarian they need to be respected for their beliefs and practices.
