Reggae rocked for Mandela and is now Boosting Barak Obama

By: Joseph Cunningham

cocotea_promotional.jpgThe name Barack Obama is a name familiar to all and sundry across the globe and it's no surprise that a song, titled, "Barack Obama," composed by legendary Jamaican singer, Cocoa Tea is receiving critical acclaim worldwide.

Cocoa Tea has been the mastermind behind many of Reggae’s greatest cultural hits that include the current hit about the United States Presidential Contender.

"I'm in support of Obama because of the ideas for change I hear him articulating. I would really love to see a man like him hold the high seat in the White House," Cocoa Tea asserted.

He revealed that he recently received a call from the Associated Press based in the US about the song and further revealed that, "since then there has been a media craze including the Miami Herald."

A few weeks ago the song became the first Reggae track to be played on CNN. Work is now being done to complete Cocoa Tea's new album titled, Barack Obama. It will be a double CD... 18 tracks each.

Commenting on heightened support for Obama, he said, "I actually would like to be a part of Obama's campaign for the presidency. I want to get in touch with the right persons on his team since the song is creating this kind of buzz."

There are unconfirmed reports that the song was recently aired on FOX as well.

Nice! Can you post the song or link to the song?

Congratulations to Cocoa Tea, Writing a song for a presidential candidate is reggae history. Not too happy that fellow West Indians aren't praising Cocoa Tea by posting any comments on this page. I see that you're more interested in commenting on the "Hottie Hottie" page or commenting on beyonce and Jay-z's so-called marriage. It would be a good thing, if more West Indian people started to take an interest in what goes on in the Caribbean, including praising the accomplishments that emanate from Jamaica, including other islands. Big ups to Trinidad and its beautiful women. Going to get bucwild in June, when I get down there.

This guy is an idiot. He looks good and gives great speeches, but he is an empty suit. I guess that teks away my blackness. A good candidate would have been Condoleeza Rice. Is she black??? I just hate it when artists or actors endorse and campaign for candidates. It makes them look retarded. Especially a Jamaican supporting a US candidate. We the great babylon right??

Posted by: ps on April 8, 2008 05:21 PM

b-rad, how can you possibly say condoleeza rice would be a good candidate? she represents an administration thats lost basically all credibility, has about a 20% approval rating, and made the biggest foreign policy blunder of out lifetime. explain how obama is an empty suit? he's young and charismatic so that somehow makes him not legitimate?

Racism in America is real! b-rad are you white? Babylon in just America?...no evil people are everywhere!! I'm from the states and I have friends from everywhere and here if you don't open your mouth they just assume your black. so where ever you from Jamaica, Haiti, Africa... we all come from the same place.Politicians...well whether we like it or not they will be always there. Everybody in the states somewhere down the line got a auntie, uncle, grandma, cousin(whatever) from jamaica or somewhere else and it's time for a change we need to throw some color in the white house. It's gonna effect us all...batty boy gettin married, they gonna do it any way, people are dying in war for no reason and that's just one. B-RAD. You and Condaleeza...whatever her name.. your the same color. You asked. The fire would burn alot of people from jamaica too! Fire pon evil!

Posted by: mamazouk on October 29, 2008 11:49 PM

B-Rad...What you need to overstand is that Cocoa Tea sees Barak Obama as a symbol for change that can effect not only the U.S., but the world. Cocoa Tea is a true rasta. One love, one people is not about Jamaica, it is about the world uniting and being one people. Jamaicans have the right to take interest in the rest of the world. Selassie is not from Jamaica, nor is Mandela and they were both political figures. What the hell are your really dealing with, man?
