Etana takes her positive vibes to the streets
On Friday March 7, VP recording artist Etana, took time out to drop in on customer service representatives at New Kingston's Digicel Call Center. Mingling amongst ardent fans, she shared love and laughs with these Digicel staff members who had previously chosen her as their favorite from a poll of dancehall and reggae artists.
It was a surprise visit by Etana who signed autographs, took photographs and absolutely enjoyed spending quality 'down time' with a group who reciprocated by showing the conscious songstress how much she is valued in the community. She was presented with an LG Chocalat slide cell phone as a token of the Digicel workers' gratitude.
It was a day of special appearances and after that first stop, Etana was wisked off by road manager, Lerone Chutkan, to attend the 'Peace and Prosperity' gathering in May Pen.
This time, the 'Warrior Love' queen was a specially invited guest of the Ministry of Health for their Peace Day Concert. Etana extended a warm welcome to the citizens of May Pen, who came out in huge numbers to see her and a few other artists perform for Peace. Young and old showed up for the event, organized to bring awareness to the need for dire changes in a community that has been experiencing extreme violence since the start of 2008.
Headlining the concert, Etana did not hold back any of her signature singing power. She had the audience singing along in harmony with her every word while many scrambled to get up front for a closer peek at the natural beauty.
After giving the crowd all their favorites like: "Roots," "Warrior Love" and her latest release, "I Am Not Afraid," Etana spent time signing autographs and greeting her fans. One most exhuberant onlooker was none other than, Motor Bike Police Officer, Adolph Ewart, who took care of Etana until the very last drop.
He arranged a diplomatic style escort for the singer as she left May Pen, taking her all the way to the highway leading to Kingston.
Although exhausted Etana reflected on the well spent day by giving words of encouragement for a community that is yearning for peace.
She said, "Respect goes out to Superintendent of Clarendon Police, Mr. Radcliffe Lewis and all the Peace Day Volunteers who made my rest tent comfortable, I hope that the Communities in and around May Pen Clarendon can begin to live good amongst one another and help build this great nation called Jamaica. Until next I see you Blessed Love."
