Alliance Father and Son to tour UK

bounty_mavado.jpgA mini tour that will see the Father and Son of the Alliance appear on three shows in the UK is planned for this Easter.

Birmingham, Bradford and London are the lucky spots to be gearing up for hosting the 2008 throw down with Bounty Killer and Mavado. Word is demand for tickets in London is through the roof, prompting promoters to be considering a second London date.

The UK invasion comes after a flood of offers for Mavado that followed his successful November appearance there. As for the Killer, "[He] is an icon in the UK and we go there every year with him so the promoter decided to go all out and put on one show," Manager Julian Jones-Griffith explained of the concert dubbed as the biggest dancehall show to hit the UK shores. Jones-Griffith said, "It is going to be history."

Making that history with the firey Alliance crew will be, Baby Cham and Spice, who have been added to the line-up. Rising Alliance stars Einstein and Future Fambo will also join the tour.

From the UK, Bounty Killer continues on an extensive European Tour that takes him to France, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Italy.

Mavado, who is anxiously awaiting the February release of his Little X directed video, "Last Night," will appear throughout the Caribbean after the UK tour.

It is a nonsense to suggest that the so called 'mini-tour' with Bounty and Mavado has been' dubbed as the biggest dancehall show to hit the UK shores.' Whilst there is certainly some interest in the purported UK tour, dancehall fans have become accustomed to glossy, superficial flyers with an advertised billing which then later amounts to little or nothing (i.e the artists shown on promotional material do not always turn up or the headline artists keep the crowd waiting for lengthy periods, then do a ridiculously short set and run back to Jamaica with pockets of our English pounds having shafted the public).

Far from being a success, the Mavado tour in November 2007 was plagued with problems. In the first instance two dates were announced and advertised for Nov 23rd - Nov 25th in Coventry and London respectively. The show in Coventry was cancelled (allegedly on the instruction of the Police). The London show went ahead only because of heavy Police assistance. Outside the venue there was a surveillance unit recording all the patrons entering and exiting the venue and the Police were equipped with weapons best left in Hollywood movies. It will be interesting to see how this latest episode will play out.

ALLIANCE GODDESS
I do love reading the posts on Yard Flex, particularly those from the more challenged among us. For the record I have seen both Mavado and Bounty Killer and on both occasions the Police had to intervene.

Baby Cham is the main artiste in the tour. Movado flop when he came to Toronto with baby Cham. Bounti Killa is old wine in a new bottle.
