Wow. its makes you wonder, (Ignorance) we get up everyday to fight and kill each other and for what? you see countries around the world fight but its for a cause, and a little island like jamaica its because everyone wants to be the badder man, its so sad.

Posted by: lisa on February 1, 2008 06:37 PM

Us jamaicans has got a lot to answer to,but why did kemp did this documentary, was it because he cared, no, he had to fine a way to make himself some money £. As a result of not being paid for acting the part in (eastenders) he had to fine another way out, the guy has sold copies of his books already. England has got it's own problems. There are more positive about jamaica than negative, people ten to talk about the negative side of things, it's time to stop the labelling and ignorance against jamaicans. To the above comment i can see that you are one of those persons whom is living with a lack of knowlegde. Have you forgotten about Iraq.

Rasta know star it sad fi the youth them a kill off them one another like that, and for what? from inna the 80's the politicain them plant the seed, and see what it grow into. because right now i can bet most a them politician yah, shock fi see the level to what everything esculate to, and look pon the community them, a suitable condition that fi people live inna, much less even grow the children them. It hurt mi heart rasta, because some a them youth deh a that alone them know, a that grow up and see, and nuh opportunity wasn't provided to them, so what you expect from them. i'm not advocating thier behavoir, but duty politician show the youth something else, and push the whole a di money inna unno pocket, spend some inna the community them, and try put the youth them to work. The thing can set back, but its gonna take a collective effort, and the politician them offi mek the first move. if not the situation only a go get worse. A love and good, my prayers goes out to them youth deh, hopefully rastafari can show them an alternative.

It hurt my heart to see that the land I call home is so violence. I am praying that one day things will get better for the youths. To know that most of our black man don't make it to 21 because of violence is really sad.
I know is because some of them can't so any better, they have no choice but to turn to badness

Posted by: kryminalll on February 2, 2008 01:53 AM

Insightful documentary, I rate Ross Kemp, but one element I find missing from this is an interview with the leaders to inquire about what steps are being taken to allieviate the suffering occurring in these garrisons. Since the division was initiated by gov't, then it's their responsibility to the monster they created and get rid of the bloodshed culture. The leaders should have been drilled concerning the origin of this ph@*kry.

Posted by: artist on February 2, 2008 02:32 AM

Wow! Im from St.Lucia so im no stranger to badness but Jamaica is str8 up cold. A sad state of affairs. listen to the featured don's reasoning and articulation and u can see that he is just a product of his environment; in the light that if a proper situation was aviable he could have easily gained an education and do something positive.

Posted by: hits on February 2, 2008 04:28 AM

and this will benefit who again??? i wonder how much $$ went into this, beta it was spent on solving the problem everyone already know the root of the problem.
not impressed

Posted by: lee on February 2, 2008 06:36 AM

Mi seh this documentary had me fully engaged from start to finish. A real enlightening piece of work. That last gangster leader in grants pen sounded like he had a decent education. Some will say that you may not choose that lfe but is the life that choose you. Only hope that one day all this bloodshed will cease.

it really touching how can one live with themself killing people from what i see its all ignorance ross kemp you are so brave jamaican youth wake up stop the voilent

First of all, the things that we see on this video have become acceptable behavior in Jamaica. Where is the hope for these people? Where is the conscience of the country? Where is the church in the community? Where are the Paul Bogl(s) and George William Gordon(s) of Jamaica? You have a country with one of the highest crime rate in the world and yet the Jamaican people gives audience to a whole bunch of gun talk and gangster lyrics.

We keep electing the same corrupted politicians who have spend a life time in government doing nothing to improve the conditions of people. For years Edward Sega was giving guns to his constituence in Tivoli Gardens to go out kill and committ crimes. This man was the Prime Minister of Jamaica. Portia Simpson and Bruce Golding have been in the Government for over 30 years what good have they done for Jamaica?

If the Jamaican people want to sit down and allow these same old people to exploit and victimize them maybe they deserve what they get.

Posted by: titi on February 2, 2008 09:47 AM

gang violence began more so, when Seaga came to JA, he is the cause of alot of violence in JA. politians keep up alot of violence in JA, they bring in the guns, and hungry licky licky belly buss gun and kill innocent people for the them.
str888 talk the truth.

Posted by: lovelyladyuk on February 2, 2008 10:14 AM

i hope when my people in Jamaica see this that them really look into themselves and stop killing one another for fear of politians and money. PLEASE STOP THE VIOLENCE WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO COME HOME AND ENJOY WE SELVES. BEG YOU STOP THE NON SENSE KILLINGS.

IT WAS VERY NICE OF MR KEMP TO BE ABLE TO CAPTURE THE DONS/LAW DAWGSOF THE LAND,I GREW UP IN THAT ENVIROMENT FOR A VERY SHORT PERIOD,80 ELECTION WAS ONE OF THE WORSE EXPERIENCE ANYONE CAN IMAGINE...SO WITH ALL THAT DON'T LOOK FROM ONLY ONE PERSPECTIVE...LOOK AT ALL ANGLES OF LIFE
IF YOU PROVIDE JOBS OR CONSTRUCTIVE RESOURCES FOR THESE CATS THINGS WOULD BE DIFFERENT...SOME HOW,POVERTY WILL ALWAYS BRING CRIME....BLACKS PEOPLE HAVE A FAR WAY TO GO STILL

Born and grow in Jamaica, Kingston and Portmore, i'm watching this documentary, im trying to find a reason to justify or to back the people, a reason to say oh, a reason to still say im a proud Jamaican. I find it a serious matter because right through out im asking my self is that really Jamaica? I dont come from uptown but the flim made me realized that im so sheltered from all of this, i mean i watch it every night on news but this one goes in depth, makes me ask why, makes me feel scared, scared of my own people. And to make matters worst, this flim was done by an outsider, the image and talks were done by a man from foreign, that means it going to show on international tv and its being circulated around the web. The implications of this is, if i feel scared and i born and grow here, how do you think another foreigner would feel? seriously? If i go to another country and i say im Jamaica, and a man just watch this documentary on tv how would they react towards me? but apart from me and the people from foreign, the people who live in this community yo me cant even right nuh more. I think every Jamaican should watch this, just to view our self on flim, i feel so embarrassed bwoy me cant...

BADMAN TING !!!

Posted by: Genny Lee on February 4, 2008 06:22 PM

the people of Jamaica have to start advocating for themselves, demand better housiing for the low income working class, free education for the low income household, economic development. Hold these politicians accountable. I only hear the artist dem ah lick out against these poli tricksters. Jamaica is a beautiful country with the most beautiful and friendlest set of people i know, there needs to be a change. Only the people can bring this change, because the politician have been selling out Jamaica from every since.
Better Must Come......

For the person who commented about lacking knowledge, read my post again! Iraq, how large a country is it? And what are they fighting for? People in countries like Iraq,Isreal and Kenya are not killing each other for stipes, it's either terrorism or political reasons. What are our fellow jamaicans shooting each other for?Thats the question.

Posted by: Jah-Works on February 5, 2008 08:01 AM

There is another video on the internet documenting the same thing about Jamaica. It shows you part 1,2 and 3.

Posted by: lee mcfarlane on February 5, 2008 09:54 AM

Poverty, unintelligent, uneducated, and unployesd
all of the above describes the gang bangers in jamaica. my thing is these youngesters do not know anything else, all because of THE GOVERNMENT, it still boils down to politics, no one has ever take the time to intervene to see exactly why there is such a behaviour, everyone is just saying them jus bad, what makes these youngesters bad? They are angry for all of the above reasons that I have indicated, why not give them a chance to learn a trade and make some money,so that they can have things, instead of looting and shooting, and killin off one another.
I looked at the video with the gang banger, bad man whatever you want to call it, they do not have a clue its all about their turf. This the almighty's turf, he put us here to live in it and to be good to each other, but NOOOO, ever one wants to rule and run things, nutten no go so. There is no need to fight, cause war is ugly, and love is lovely, any ways at the end of the day you can take the donkey to the pond but you cant make him drink. Final words look into yourself youth man (men) you a fight fi nuthing killing each other and you dead and gone and still no get nothing, but a fame saying, that man was one of the baddest man. dat no mek it!!!!! STOP THE VIOLENCE, JAMAICA, UNITED STATES, WHEREEVER, NO BELONG TO NO MAN. A THE FATHER'S PLACE WE ARE ONLY LIVING IN IT. REMEMBER! THIS IS 200&LOVE, NOT 2008.
PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Mack on February 6, 2008 10:25 AM

I believe Ross Kemp has also been to IRAQ or atleast Afganistan so dont think this his Ross Kemp targeting jamaica his tv show ha been all over the world Lisa to bad this 1 is a hard pill to swallow for you Lisa.

Whether you all want to admit it or not this country has a serious problem. We have a murder rate of 5 a day thats higher than alot of countrius that are at war the likes of Isreal, palestine, India, Pakistan.

We have a widespread culture of violence and aggression which is being fed be violent experiences, poverty, hopelessness, lack of guidance especially parental, drugs, availabilty of guns, widespread corruption in government and society in general, violent music and lack of social justice.

Lets just say its a hard task to walk the straight and narrow and survive in Jamaica. These problems will not be solved by a government or even zero tolerance policing as the commissioner had spoken have.

All Jamaicans will have to come together government and opposition, uptown, downtown and country, police and thief and work towards riddin this country of corruption and hopelessness across the board. Only then will our problem b solved

Posted by: Anne on February 6, 2008 01:19 PM

Ross has been going around the whole doing documentaries about the violence around the world. So please don't think that it's all about JA only.... He's highlighting the problems of the world. And yes the leaders do need to stand up and take notice.

Posted by: Gary on February 6, 2008 09:01 PM

How dumb can you be? Yes there are alot of nice things about Jamaica, but there is a problem. The murder capital of the world! We should do something about Jamaica! If we don't fix it, it will happen it you. Get some work for the people, if we kill each other how can the economy grow with no one to work. The tourist come on one side of the Island. And how can you take a life. I love my country and I want to be able to go anywhere there and enjoy it. No way no betta dan yard!

Posted by: lee on February 10, 2008 06:50 PM

It's not unreasonable to say that they are fight over and for MOTHING. These fools are watching too much TV.

Posted by: Desmond on February 17, 2008 10:17 PM

Until the Jamaican people hold their government accountable to be a government of the people by the people, violence will continue. Where there is no hope, violence will fill the vacum. If the government does not provide for the people, the Dons will fill the vacum. Evil men will always prevail when good men sit around and do nothing.

Posted by: Maria on February 23, 2008 12:10 PM

Mack well said. My words exactly. We are in denial as a people. Jamaica is a very, very small island, we are doomed if we continue to follow this path of violence. Too beautiful an island to be destroyed by so few. Wake up Jamaicans and take back your picturesque country. Stop blaming the messenger. Ross Kemp just exposed what we all know. Stop the denial.
