Two-Day Festival in Florida to Honour Miss Lou

A two-day festival honouring the life and works of Jamaica's late Cultural Ambassador, Louise Bennett-Coverley, O.J. (Miss Lou), will be held in Florida from January 31 to February 1.
Titled 'Colonization in Reverse' the event, slated for the South Regional Broward Library in Pembroke Pines, will kick off the library's Black History Month celebrations. It is being held under the patronage of Consul General to Miami, Ricardo Allicock.
The first day of the event will feature a panel discussion on 'Perspectives on the Life and Work of Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverley', which will address language, empowerment and identity, education, the impact of the culture on the Caribbean Diaspora, Creolization, linguistics and etymology, and the depth and breadth of the political humour of Miss Lou. Panelists will include poet and cultural expert Professor Mervyn Morris; actress, author and comedian, Joan Andrea Hutchinson; Florida-based educators Drs. Susan Davis and Marva McLean; and attorneys David Rowe and George Lewis.
A supporting cast of Jamaican talent based in South Florida will headline a concert the following day starting at 7:00 p.m. The two-day event is being coordinated by the Broward Library Division, the Broward Community College and the Jamaica Folk Revue.
