Cristy Barber given top VP Records appointment


logo_vp.jpgVP Records this week announced the appointment of Cristy Barber as Vice-President of Marketing and Promotions.

The top notch music industry executive who has assisted in developing Grammy winning artists like: Damian 'Jr. Gong' and Stephen Marley will oversee the marketing and promotions department as second to Randy Chin, President of VP Records.

Fresh from her close to five year stint as President of Tuff Gong/Ghetto Youths International where she worked in tandem with, Universal Republic Records, Ms. Barber brings a wealth of knowledge to VP Records.

Her music career started in 1992 and Barber worked for hip-hop star KRS-One's company, Front Page Entertainment; from where she went on to work as a publicist for Capitol Records. Companies such as Elektra Entertainment, Island Records and Columbia Records have previously appointed her in key marketing and promotional positions. It is also a return to VP Records for Barber, who was Director of A&R there for two years.

Since its inception in 1979, VP Records has become the world's leading reggae record company and one of the fastest growing music publishers in the genre. The label has many awards under its belt including: Billboard's 'Independent Label Of The Year' award and multiple 'Best Reggae Label' awards.

VP Records' roster of artists includes: Sean Paul, Shaggy, Elephant Man, Beres Hammond, Morgan Heritage, Mavado, and T.O.K. among others.

Barber is bound to bring VP her winning mark that has seen her rock the Urban Music markets in the past. She has produced, signed, developed and marketed over 25 recording artists in her career, setting the strategic agenda for an array of platinum and award winning solo albums, collaborations, compilations, soundtracks, and videos.
