UB40 singer quits after 30 years

AliCampbell08.jpgUB40 frontman Ali Campbell has called it quits with the band after nearly three decades.

The 48-year-old singer said he took the "agonising" decision to leave because of management problems.

On his website, Campbell denied he was quitting to start a solo career and said: "I know UB40 will carry on successfully without me and I wish them the very best."

Campbell will quit after performing his last concerts with the band next month in Australia, New Zealand and Uganda.

The band was formed in the English Midlands during the economic slump of the late 1970s, taking their name from an official unemployment benefits form.
