Although a team from sports radio KLAS FM in Jamaica had the brilliant vision to launch a school tour that would combine sports and entertainment, promoting both as grounded sources of fun for high schoolers last year, the official tour kicked off on January 17, 2008.

The first stop was Kingston College (KC) and students there made no hesitation in showing their appreciation for the lively happenings. Being a school for boys, KC students went absolutely senseless when the female artists performed; and the stellar line up of talent did give them more than they bargained for.

Tony Young, Executive Manager of Programmes at KLAS kept things running smoothly as MC. As one of the four initiators of the school tour, his heartfelt thanks went out to all sponsors and participants. Watching an idea come to fruition was rewarding for him and this feeling was shared by: Mrs. Opal Sewell Brown, KLAS Executive Manager for Sales & Administration, Richard Thomson – who was charged with securing sponsorship and Jeffrey Maxwell, also in marketing.

Some of Jamaica's finest new talent took to the stage and as the first
act, former Digicel Rising Star contestant, Leyna Wilks challenged the fortis sites [KC alumni] to draw closer to stage front, the standard was set for all others who were huddling on the outskirts. Soon the courtyard was bubbling, as artist after artist released and were given back good vibrations and love.

Little Joe gave a remarkable, short and sweet delivery that was interspersed with thought provoking dialogue. In interacting with his youthful and impressionable audience Little Joe asked, "Are you all fed up of the senseless killings?" This led him into the song, "Not Good At All."

Rihanna's "Umbrella" adapted by another hot Digicel Rising Star contestant, Jodiann Pantry, sent the crowd in a frenzy as did Nikeisha Barnes, whose set was also enjoyed immensely. Keri Paige, was another rocking female, who brought the afternoon to an end with her hot song, "Mr. DJ."

Shane O Young gave hit after hit of popular songs that had all of the fortis sites present singing along with him. Drawing for tunes like, "Jah Mek The Thunder Roll" to "Too Much Girls," he added an extra spark. Exceptional new talent, I Octane, was not in the best of health, but still did not disappoint in his short yet forceful set. He gave all his hits that were sung word for word by the very responsive students.

KC students certainly had a great time and this entertainment was augmented by words of wisdom from fortis sites, Trevor Campbell and Devon Anderson who both presented brief messages. Campbell, who is a KC past student and former track star at the school gave well received and encouraging words. Anderson, who is currently a producer of KLAS' award winning show "Scoreboard," added more food for thought. The former KC cricket team captain and KC football team member is also a Sports Correspondent for YardFlex Inc.

Being able to feature sports with entertainment this way could only have happened for the 'KLAS team' with gracious sponsorships from Inseason Juice, the main supporter, as well as: Pharmaton, Addidas Deodorant, Aamm Co-op Credit Union, KFC and Yardflex Inc.

The next stop was Mannings High School on January 18...and the sports/beat rolls on.
