« Role Model let fans down at Jam Jam | Main | Yard Flex Sports Flash Back 2007 »

Why This Fussing & Fighting?

jamaica_flag_large.jpg

Artists need to control themselves and be more conscious of their of roles in the wider society. As we go forward into 2008 it is important that our cultural icons maintain the sort of composure that will always strengthen not only their careers but also their capacity to create.

Reggae music lovers in Jamaica and around the world want nothing more than to emulate their favorite artistes who they hold in such high esteem. However, when faced with disappointing behavior, such as the heavy hitting brawls, bickering and angry tantrums, their admiration gets crushed.

A Jamaican Canadian radio show host lamented at the situation, saying it took him many years to get people to pay proper attention to Reggae and the artistes today seem to be on a mission of destruction. Some
entertainers need to control themselves and stop the nonsense.

Following the Jam Jam incident days ago, some fans were heard saying,
"Thank God this happened at home and not at an international venue," but what about the old time saying that goes, "If you dance at home – you dance abroad!" Will the artistes in question ever learn?

2008 has begun on a bad note, there is no denying this and the onus is on each artiste to reflect consciously and project for only the best.

In order to keep our cultural exports at the high standards they now
enjoy, serious attention must be paid to issues that require interventions. These include: substance abuse (even casual use) and anger management. There is dire need for plain old fashion counseling.

One of Jamaica's most famous radio Jocks recently lamented at the
situation, saying she is not that excited about being invited to stage
shows as an MC these days...it is just too dangerous for her.

And our suggestion for Jah Cure, who seemed to go directly from incarceration to the Hilton; is for him to seek anger management and counseling. The process of reintegration after so many years must be a rough one for not just The Cure, but for all who leave such institutions.

As for Sizzla – he may need anger management as well, since reports this morning say he got quite physical with someone last night. Of course YardFlex will bring that juice to you soon.
