Etana spreads love and compassion

By: Janice Dayle

etana.jpgHolding fast to the true meaning of the festive holiday season, Etana bestowed the beautiful gift of music to children at Carberry Court Special School in Papine, St. Andrew on November 28. The pre-Christmas concert, described by Etana as a 'little treat' for the youngsters, gave the physically and mentally challenged children a fresh reason to smile and laugh with pleasure in between their cheers of appreciation.

Delivering a passionate performance of songs from her extensive catalogue of hits like: "Wrong Address," "Roots," "Money" and one of her latest singles, "Warrior Love," Etana was a true model of brilliance, admired to the hilt by an enthusiastic audience.

This was a fitting venue to perform "Warrior Love," Etana's first song on relationships and love, since it speaks to the importance of compassion in everyday life and that is a trait most welcomed in a special needs setting. Children sang along to the delight of Etana, 'The Strong One,' who mingled after performing; taking photographs and signing autographs with over 50 students.

Following a period of sharing laughter, hugs and some good conversation, Etana was presented with a plant as a show of gratitude from the school and there was a reciprocal presentation of promotional items to all.

Her December season continues to rock with exciting activity as Etana is scheduled to appear: on the 21st for Welcome To Jamrock, to be held at the Constant Spring Football Field, on the 23rd at I Scream on James Bond Beach and on the 24th and 25th she will thrill audiences at May Pen Country Club's Island Explosion and GT Taylor's Christmas Extravaganza respectively.

The final call for this year will see Etana gracing the Guiness Sting 2007 stage at Jamworld Entertainment Center in Portmore on December 26. Also lovingly referred to as the ‘Warrior Love Empress,’ Etana will be featured in Sting’s Singers Paradise segment.

As the progressive entrepreneurial owner of Free Mind Music – The B.E.S. Records, Etana will release her debut album, "Etana The Strong One" in early 2008.
