Keep Garnet Silk's memory alive

GarnetSilk.jpgGarnet Silk impacted on the lives of many with his humility and powerful uplifting songs. It is with this in mind that a committee of concerned individuals in the music fraternity have decided to come together to arrange with media houses to highlight the life's work of this music icon.

All this is in an effort to keep the late Garnet Damon Smith aka Garnet Silk's memory alive.

Silk's appeal spread much further afield than Jamaica – without a doubt his contributions have had international appeal and he has added significantly to our rich musical heritage.

From Monday, December 10 through to December 16, the committee will keep Garnet Silk's memory alive by hosting activities all week long.

For that week the committee is encouraging media houses to interview those formerly affiliated with Garnet and play his music as often as possible throughout the week. Fans are encouraged to call in to radio stations and send in letters to the editor describing what Garnet Silk meant to them.

YardFlex would also like to hear from lovers of the late Garnet Silk's music. Just vibes with us for this week and share in keeping this singer's memory burning.

I was really taken back by this article and i thank whom ever came up with this idea. Garnet Silk was truly an inspiration to me and many others. His music is definately something to keep alive!! His death was a tragic one and the community of Mandeville still mourns. Alot more should be done to honor his memory.

Blessed love to the late GREAT Garnet Silk... his music still gives me goose bumps... Time has passed but his music lives on, Rastafarian Djs like Sizzla and Munga should take a page from Garnet's book and continue to spread the word of peace and love, and TRY to get the word across so we CAN TRY to ERADICATE violence and ignorance...

Garnet will always live on in my heart.... Give thanks to the most high.... RASTAFARI

Nuff respect to the late great Reggae Messiah Garnet Silk whose music still has a massive impact now as it did then. Much love, still sorely missed. In his own words "When the lion roars the whole jungle trembles". Oneness.

It was a GREAT vibe on Chris Goldfinger's BBC Reggae Dancehall Show, as he dedicated the last hour of his show to the memory of the Late Great Garnett Silk, whom we sadly missed, Thank you Mr Goldfinger for such a wonderful vibe, my friends and family in Zimbabwe listened to it and loved it too.

Even after the commerorations of this great son of Jah in 2007, i found this website and thought i could say one or two things. "Eish rasta's, Garnets music lives long in my heart. Let us all cherish the message of peace, love, one-ness that he preached as we lsited to his music all year round. He was indeed a messenger of Jah , a prophet and icon and a visionary. Unfortunately he never lived to cherish his success. His memories live in our hearts. Give thanks and praise to Jah the highest. Gabaz thanks for introducing i n i to conscious music
One love Marasta"
